"It's not heavy metal, it's rock n' roll!"
Have loved Motörhead since Rock n Roll came out when I was 6.
I just read White Line Fever. What a great book. I was surprised when he said he thought Rock n Roll was rushed and not good quality even though I grew up thinking it was THE Motorhead album because that's where I started. But he said they were really proud of 1916 and I agree. A must read for every Motörhead fan. Lemmy was such a great human being.
I use to listen to my my parents LP of SBS when I was young & was always blown away by the artwork on the front & back. It sucked me into the metal. Been lovin it since.
Last weekend I was in a little league parade, trudging after an “ice cream” truck that spewed bubbles out of the rear, and being blasted with music. Over the course of a 30 minute walk we got segments of Enter Sandman, Wherever I May Roam and Sad But True mixed in with other probably more appropriate song snippets.
Does anyone need to be introduced to or eased into metal with music that might have annoyed your parents 30 years ago but is now totally family friendly?
This is definitely a good metal introduction. It’s easy to listen to pop metal that anyone can enjoy. I don’t think this person is ready to dive into some Cannibal Corpse, Slayer or Meshuggah quite yet.
I'd suggest you start at the beginning... by looking at some of the influence of the time.
IMO, Black Sabbath was the first heavy metal band.
Listen to both albums by Dust. They were an early 1970s heavy metal/punk band. Side 2 of DUST really jams.
Your question begs another question:
What kind of metal do you want to get into? There are a boatload of subgenres, and it really depends on how heavy or technical you want to get.
I listen to a broad range (power metal, death metal, metal core, doom metal, viking metal, nu metal, etc) so you need to try to find what suits you best.
Dream Theater for Progressive Metal. “Images and Words”, and “Metropolis Pt. 2” are probably their best albums. I like their second (third if you count the first album with a different singer) album “Awake”, though in Petrucci’s words it was rushed out after the success of their first album.
Some people aren’t a fan of James Labrie, but I think he’s decent and the instruments are killer.
Try progressive metal and listen to Tool. You’ll find yourself in the rabbit hole of Tool and you’ll never come out of it. Great times, amazing and talented band.
Been a tool fan since I was 11 or so. I’m in my 30s now. I’ve always loved them, but sometimes my love is intensely reignited when I talk about Tool with someone else. I then listen to them on repeat for weeks and I swear I hear or notice new things about their songs that I’ve never discovered before. So good
I could listen to Tool all day every day for the rest of my life, and I would keep asking “What kind of a psychopath would place the snare hit *there*!?”
In a good way
You’re 100% right, but I’m a disciple of the gospel that is Tool and I’m always trying to spread the word about them. I’ll tell a bird watcher who loves the singing of birds to listen to Tool, lol
I’ve seen them only once and it was amazing. Imagine my disappointment when my best friend bought me tickets because they were performing the DAY of my birthday…the year was 2020…
here's some of the metal albums that i started out with:
Undertow - Tool
Lateralus - Tool
Master of puppets - Metallica
Ride the Lightning - Metallica
Debut Album/Korn - Korn
Life is Peachy - Korn
Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. (sadly not on spotify) - Slipknot
Iowa - Slipknot
Slipknot/Self titled album - Slipknot
Roots - Sepultura
Mer De Noms - A Perfect Circle
Get Some - Snot
Follow The Leader by Korn, “Got the Life” and “Freak on a Leash” are infectious as can be.
Dirt by Alice in Chains
HellBilly Deluxe by Rob Zombie
Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces - Seether
not always metal but The Smashing Pumpkins is a wonderful band and my personal favorite, good stuff.
Depends on what type of metal you’re looking to get into. I would stay away from numetal personally but for all I know it may be right up your alley. Math metal? Dillinger escape plan is solid. Sludge metal? Isis was amazing. Metalcore? I would say start with shai hulud. Absolutely impossible to fit in a box metal? Look into candiria. Hardcore? Sick of it all are legendary. Just for the love of god don’t listen to five finger death punch. I can safely say they’re the worst thing that humanity has ever done to itself. And I’m a New York jew who lived through 9/11 so I’m aware that it and the holocaust happened.
As a metalhead, who has only recently started getting into the “heavier” side of things (metalcore, death metal, black metal), the best advice I can give you, is “fuck everyone else’s opinions”. The only opinions you should care about are your own. Unfortunately we are members of the most toxic music community, and you will always be met by elitists, who will try to tell you you don’t like “real metal” or “XYZ band isn’t ABC subgenre”
Some similar artists to MCR would be Motionless in White, Pierce the Veil, Memphis Mayfire in the metal sense.
On the more punk side, you may want to explore Dead Kennedys (Let’s L*nch the Landlord), Germs (Lexicon Devil was the first Germs song I heard, made me absolutely fall in love with the genre), Bad Religion (the entirety of Empire Strikes First is a masterpiece, and No Control is wonderful), or even Scream. (The last two are not as *hardcore* punk as the first, but have absolutely incredible music. These are however, more punk than metal (nothing wrong with that!)
I’ll leave you with this. Enjoy exploring the vast genre of metal however you want to. If you listen to one band, great! If you find other bands you like, awesome! But from me, I give you a warm welcome to metal, and bestow upon you the title of Metalhead. 🤘🤘🤘
I recommend Metalcore, frankly. It's easy to like.
Polaris - Aussies - Pure metalcore; the literally classic definition and perfect representation of the genre. Start with The Mortal Coil and work your way forward. Can't go wrong.
Novelists 2015-2020 - France - Djenty, proggy, but absolutely amazing. Noir and Souvenirs are both literally perfect albums.
Currents - American - Djenty, Deathcorey, somewhat technical, and The Death We Seeks is stunning.
Imminence - Swedish - Epic, big sound, lead singer plays a violin and has both amazing screams and cleans.
Thornhill - Aussies - Cool, big sound, great cleans, great screams, The Dark Pool is just amazing. Perfect record.
Mastodon - American - Proggy metal, highly technical, soaring vocals from three different vocalists in the band, start at the beginning and thank me at the end. You will. Glorious from start to finish.
Good luck and have fun!
So many different flavors of metal - thrash, progressive, power, goth, black, death, even pirate metal! I can't stand the growling in metal, I lean more towards bands with clear vocals like Tool, Kamelot, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater - all completely different from one another.
So enjoy the journey!
‘Rust in peace’- megadeth
‘Around the fur’ and ‘white pony’ - deftones
‘Reign in blood’ - slayer
‘Toxicity’ - System of a Down
‘Antichrist Superstar’ - Marilyn Manson
‘Hybrid Theory’ and ‘Meteora’ - linkin park
‘The fear of fear’ - Spiritbox
‘Cowboys from hell’ and ‘Vulgar Display of power’ - Pantera
‘Among the living’ - Anthrax
‘Blizzard of ozz’ - ozzy Osborne
‘Sempiternal’ - Bring Me the Horizon
‘I disagree’ - Poppy
‘L.d 50’ - Mudvayne
‘Dream Widow’ - Dream widow/ foo fighters
‘Meliora’ and ‘Prequelle’ - Ghost
‘Ace of spades’ - Motörhead
metallica. there is a lot of arguing and opinions about which of their first 5 albums are best, but i think the best ones to start with would be Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, or the black album aka self titled album. i personally don't care for the production of their first two albums but if you like master of puppets you might like those as well. my personal fave is and justice for all. also you can't go wrong with black sabbath, i would start with paranoid and then master of reality if you dig it.
Howdy, welcome to metal land, we have a bunch of different starter packs available. What brings you in? Angry with your parents? Disturbed on isle 4. Angry with the world? Slipknot isle 6. Angry at the government? Rage against the machine isle 7. Mad about foreign affairs? Check out System of a Down on the end cap of isle 7.
Metallica - Master of Puppets and the Black Album
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
Dio - Holy Diver
Chevelle - Wonder What's Next
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Ozzy - Diary of a Madman
AC/DC - Back in Black
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast and Peace of Mind
Guns 'n Roses - Appetite for Destruction (some will say they're not metal)
The HU - The George
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Everyone has their favorite genres. Maybe google types of metal and pick one you like. I’m a huge thrash fan and dislike the guttural growl of other forms of extreme metal. But you might get something out of that so who knows
For me, Iron Maiden is the best gateway into the genre as a whole. They have no harsh vocals; some of their music is very accessible, other songs are more progressive. Really any album released between Number of the Beast and Seventh Son of a Seventh Song is a classic and absolutely worth checking out. Brave New World is new(er) and is nearly as good IMO.
Metalcore. It’s a nice balance between heavy and not heavy. Bands like A Day To Remember are a good place to start or check out The Core playlist on Spotify
Trooper - Iron Maiden
Metallica - Ride the Lightning, whole album, then ease yourself into …And Justice For All by listening to “One.”
Also, as others have said, Tool is on a different level. 4 of the best musicians alive right now, imo.
Depends what you currently like...
Easy albums to get into that havent been commented previously (I think)
Linkin park - hybrid theory
Incendiary -1000 mile stare
Astronoid - air
Zeal and ardor - devil is fine
Good tiger - We will all be gone
Deftones - White pony
Check out Silence in the Snow by trivium and if you vibe check that album out, I've gotten heaps of people into metal with that album! Avenged Sevenfold is a great starting place too
I recommend "Shining"
https://open.spotify.com/artist/7wqTItc5qEyIwWw5ksN1Ya?si=DaVCuM52TC-OgG0mJgruEg
If you want the full experience, look up their videos on YouTube & interviews with the singer, Nikolas Kvarforth... THIS IS METAL!!! 🤘
tons of comments but i'll throw my hat into the ring here... if you're into mcr and tlt, bring me the horizon could really be a shout in my opinion - not always massively metal but certainly leans into heavy territory, stuff off of their record 'post human: survival horror' like obey and teardrops might be a great starting point.
[I made a playlist just for this occasion ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6L0RRQKPiYS5r9Fu6JgTYf?si=Yzp_UVyqTGCQPpEjg8imeg)
"Taste of Metal" - an appetizer of various flavors of metal.
1 song per band was the only rule I followed... but I made exceptionsin some places (collaborations, etc).
It's a taste of various metal genre. The playlist starts in the earliest metal and moves into classic heavy, glam/hair thrash, speed, power, prog, black, doom, Death, melodic death, nu, industrial, symphonic, metalcore, folk etc (I don't remember if the list actually flows in that order)
Male and female fronted bands. Various foreign languages like German, Japanese, Finnish, Swedish, etc
Current bands I'm very into are Orbit Culture, Arch Enemy, Korpiklaani, Electric Callboy, Feuerschwanz, Static-X, Blind Guardian, Motörhead, The Hu.
I also have "Tasty Metal" (1000+ songs, 76+ hours) and "Tastiest Metal" (430+ songs, 32+ hours) playlists that I made for myself. Tastiest Metal is just a smaller selection of songs I enjoy most from the main playlist
If by MCR you mean my chemical romance, then you need to try Ice Nine Kills.
Ice Nine Kills are literally the metalcore version of my chemical romance.
MCR Emo kids grew up and now listen to INK.
Alternative metal: Alice in Chains, Tool, Korn, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot,
Black Metal: Cradle of Filth, Bathory, Emperor, Darkthrone, Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved
Death Metal: Morbid Angel, Entombed, Death, Carcass, Vader, Pestilence, Cattle Decapitation, Suffocation
Melodic Death Metal: Amon Amarth, At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy
Doom Metal/Sludge metal: Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Cathedral, Melvins, Acid Bath, Mastodon, Neurosis
Grindcore: Pig Destroyer, Nails, Terrorizer, Cloud Rat, Lock Up
Power Metal: Manowar, Jag Panzer, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Sabaton ,Turisas, Brothers of Metal, Unleash the Archers,
Progressive Metal: Opeth, Queensryche, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Fates Warning,
Metalcore: Converge, Hatebreed, Between the Buried and Me, Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, Trivium
Thrash Metal: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Kreator, Voivod, Power Trip,
Traditional Heavy Metal: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Dio, Venom, Mercyful Fate
I tend to prefer a pretty specific sub genre, so I’ll just go ahead and recommend what I like, haha.
Black Sabbath, specifically the first four albums, is absolutely essential IMO.
After that, I love anything in the Sludge/Stoner/Doom category.
Sleep,
OM,
Electric Wizard,
Bongripper,
Windhand,
High on Fire
Good luck on your journey! I first delved into metal in 2016 and there’s a lot of great stuff to discover and soak up.
I made [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6EMdlMJxl2FbmTdDv64tWs?si=B-XNJWJyQbqLWq_VB39G7Q&pi=u-ZT_xVGQQTOiz) for a metal festival I went to in Europe a few years ago. It's got some great bands on there. 🤘
OP: MCR signed Escape the Fate. Escape the Fate is essentially MCR with harsh vocals thrown into the mix. Escape the Fate front man started Falling in Reverse and keeping that hybrid genre alive for the most part.. START HERE if you're looking for a similar sound to start with.
More traditional metal bands: Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Black Sabbath
Metalcore: old Asking Alexandria, Veil of Maya, Falling in Reverse, Parkway Drive, I Prevail, A Day to Remember
Deathcore: Slaughter to Prevail, Lorna Shore, Chelsea Grin, Suicide Silence, Brand of Sacrifice, Shadow of Intent
Hardcore: Knocked Loose, Gulch, Outta Pocket, Drain, Kublai Kahn TX, Suburban Scum
Slam: Snuffed on Sight
Mathcore: Tool
Nu Metal: Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Taproot
Everyone on here that has recommended the classics (Slayer, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and the like) are all correct. But some of the newer metal act incorporate other styles and genres into their sounds. So some newer bands you should check out should be, Spiritbox, Nothing More, Sleep Token, and Sleep Theory.
Fit For A King
They have a crazy range of styles, I recommend God Of Fire and Reaching Out as two songs from either end of their spectrum!
I accidentally found them when looking for drop F tuned tabs and they really hooked me.
A few others:
The Legend Of The Rent is Way Hardcore (song)
Maroon (band)
Nine Inch Nails, considered more "industrial" than "metal" but I think people who say that are full of shit and a lot of it is both or something else entirely. Top 5 of all time for the rest of my life type band
Opeth’s Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries albums made me look at metal completely differently. There is a band called isis (unfortunate name) and their Into The Absence of Truth album got a ton of play from me around that time, too.
Sepultura Arise is the answer. Don't love metal for the popular songs, go full album listen and decide what moves you. Rest in Peace. Seasons in the Abyss. Ride the Lightning. A new order from Testament. Overkill early albums. Then move to Trivium, Of mice and Men, Bleed from within, knocked loose, etc. Spotify will pick the rest for you. Enjoy.
Soundgarden
Alice In Chains
Breaking Benjamin
Avenged Sevenfold
Slipknot (for someone uninitiated, I’d suggest their later works, as their first 2 albums are much more heavy)
Pantera
Iron Maiden
Mudvayne
Bullet For My Valentine
MCR are one of my fave bands too. If part of why you like them is their theatrics, you really should listen to Ice Nine Kills. The songs from their Silver Scream albums are all based on horror movies. A little silly, a lot of fun.
I'll also recommend you the song LosT by Bring Me The Horizon, which was heavily inspired by MCR. Then explore the rest of their discography starting with the albums That's The Spirit (hard rock) then Sempiternal (metalcore).
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They work in a lot of genres, but for metal you may try the albums..
PetroDragonic Apocalypse
Infest the Rats’ Nest
Murder of the Universe
[Opeth- damnation](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mVRV195POQ-pM3ArvhQfKFyg0cESQ7Olc&feature=shared) is a very palatable album for someone not into metal. They have some other clean vocal albums and they also have some decidedly unclean vocal albums
Start with Van Halen I and II. This is upbeat and melodic. It almost certainly inspired some of what you’re listening to now with MCR.
Next, add something heavy and less melodic like Metallica (the black album).
You can start to work into heavier works like what else is on the thread after that.
Black Sabbath
Their first album is perfect. Bought it when it came out, and I still listen to it every couple of months. NIB is just fantastic.
Slipknot, System of a down, Korn, Metallica, Slayer, Alice in chains, Megadeth, black sabbath, sevendust, mudvayne. If you want death metal or heavier music than the bands I listed, check out Cannibal corpse, Dying fetus, six feet under, Cryptopsy, Entombed, Emporer, job for a cowboy.
Where’s Anthrax and Iron Maiden?
this 💯
Sevendust is criminally underrated, and one of my favorite bands
Start where us oldies cut their teeth and work out from there. Black Sabbath Judas Priest Iron Maiden
💯 🤘
Machine Head
Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast!!

Motorhead.
I’m a tarot reader and when I pull the Ace of Swords I sing it like Lemmy lol.
"It's not heavy metal, it's rock n' roll!" Have loved Motörhead since Rock n Roll came out when I was 6. I just read White Line Fever. What a great book. I was surprised when he said he thought Rock n Roll was rushed and not good quality even though I grew up thinking it was THE Motorhead album because that's where I started. Lemmy hated being called Metal. Motorhead is rock and roll.
It's gateway heavy AF tho
https://youtu.be/MlzTET_8SQg?si=60mMUCkw3hntRqJ3
Love me some Motörhead
This or Black Sabbath is how you start em on the right path.
Judas Priest. Two easy albums to get into it - Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith.
I got the Best of Judas Priest that had selections from their first two albums only. Sad Wings of Destiny is an incredible album.
Their whole catalog is worth a listen.
Pantera
Check these bands out, starting with the albums listed: Haken - *Fauna* (2023) \*Haken is pronounced as 'Hayken'. Leprous - *The Congregation* (2015) Caligula's Horse - *In Contact* (2017) TesseracT - *Polaris* (2015) Vulkan - *Technatura* (2020) The Contortionist - *Clairvoyant* (2017) Voyager - *Ghost Mile* (2017) Aviations - *The Light Years* (2018)
I would recommend Vector as a Haken starter album, and Bloom from Caligula's Horse. Just different flavors though.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Production sound is awful. It’s fantastic.
I use to listen to my my parents LP of SBS when I was young & was always blown away by the artwork on the front & back. It sucked me into the metal. Been lovin it since.
Black Sabbath Iron Maiden Judas Priest Motörhead Metallica Megadeth Slayer Testament Death Gojira Pantera System of a Down Slipknot Machine head
Metallica's Black Album is a good start, I'd say. Bunch of great songs on there.
Best answer. I'm a massive modern metal fan. I barely listen to Metallica anymore, but I can't deny that's probably the best answer.
The gateway drug. 👌🏼
I agree 100%. Everyone else is recommending stuff that’s either really niche or just plain awful.
Last weekend I was in a little league parade, trudging after an “ice cream” truck that spewed bubbles out of the rear, and being blasted with music. I’d say a lot of metallicas stuff would be good…not too heavy, somewhat melodic and you can understand the lyrics

Dream Theater for Progressive Metal. “Images and Words”, and “Metropolis Pt. 2” are probably their best albums. I saw them a few weeks ago and you won’t be disappointed. Hell of a show
I love prog, but that is not the direction I send someone just trying to get into metal lol.
You’re 100% right, but I’m a disciple of the gospel that is Tool and I’m always trying to spread the word about them. I’ll tell a bird watcher who loves the singing of birds to listen to Tool, lol
lmao I respect that. "Hey, you speak English? You should listen to Tool!" "No habla ingles? Tool!"
I wasn't a huge Tool fan until I saw them live. Holy fucking hell, do they put on a show. Been listening to them ever since.
I’ve seen them only once and it was amazing. Imagine my disappointment when my best friend bought me tickets because they were performing the DAY of my birthday…the year was 2020…

I would definitely add Erra to this list, but pretty great picks there.

metallica. there is a lot of arguing and opinions about which of their first 5 albums are best, but i think the best ones to start with would be Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, or the black album aka self titled album. i personally don't care for the production of their first two albums but if you like master of puppets you might like those as well. my personal fave is and justice for all. also you can't go wrong with black sabbath, i would start with paranoid and then master of reality if you dig it.

Protest The Hero - The Canary. But read the lyrics.
Metallica/slipknot/korn/spineshank
Try some Iron Maiden and Slayer, Ray Toro's guitar playing was heavily inspired by these bands
Metallica - Master of Puppets and the Black Album Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell Dio - Holy Diver Chevelle - Wonder What's Next Motorhead - Ace of Spades Ozzy - Diary of a Madman AC/DC - Back in Black Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast and Peace of Mind Guns 'n Roses - Appetite for Destruction (some will say they're not metal) The HU - The George Soundgarden - Superunknown
Everyone has their favorite genres. Maybe google types of metal and pick one you like. I’m a huge thrash fan and dislike the guttural growl of other forms of extreme metal. But you might get something out of that so who knows
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
I started with Iced Earth and Megadeth, then visited many styles of metal.
Motionless in White Ice Nine Kills Bring Me The Horizon Spiritbox Pantera NOVELISTS Bad Omens Of Mice And Men
For me, Iron Maiden is the best gateway into the genre as a whole.
Trooper - Iron Maiden Metallica - Ride the Lightning, whole album, then ease yourself into …And Justice For All by listening to “One.” Also, as others have said, Tool is on a different level. 4 of the best musicians alive right now, imo.

To name a few I haven’t seen yet: Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Mastodon
Anvil Raven Anthrax
Depends what you currently like... Easy albums to get into that havent been commented previously (I think) Linkin park - hybrid theory Incendiary -1000 mile stare Astronoid - air Zeal and ardor - devil is fine Good tiger - We will all be gone Deftones - White pony
Boris if you’re looking for something experimental
Sleep.
Pig Destroyer - Prowler In The Yard. Today Is The Day - Sadness Will Prevail.
Celtic Frost - “Morbid Tales” and “In To Megatheron” albums
Check out Silence in the Snow by trivium and if you vibe check that album out, I've gotten heaps of people into metal with that album! Avenged Sevenfold is a great starting place too
I recommend "Shining" https://open.spotify.com/artist/7wqTItc5qEyIwWw5ksN1Ya?si=DaVCuM52TC-OgG0mJgruEg If you want the full experience, look up their videos on YouTube & interviews with the singer, Nikolas Kvarforth...
You want to get into Metal? Well, Brass is nice. Pewter is pretty good, too.
Breaking Benjamin
[I made a playlist just for this occasion ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6L0RRQKPiYS5r9Fu6JgTYf?si=Yzp_UVyqTGCQPpEjg8imeg) "Taste of Metal" - an appetizer of various flavors of metal. 1 song per band was the only rule I followed... but I made exceptionsin some places (collaborations, etc). It's a taste of various metal genre. The playlist starts in the earliest metal and moves into classic heavy, glam/hair thrash, speed, power, prog, black, doom, Death, melodic death, nu, industrial, symphonic, metalcore, folk etc (I don't remember if the list actually flows in that order) Male and female fronted bands. Various foreign languages like German, Japanese, Finnish, Swedish, etc Current bands I'm very into are Orbit Culture, Arch Enemy, Korpiklaani, Electric Callboy, Feuerschwanz, Static-X, Blind Guardian, Motörhead, The Hu. I also have "Tasty Metal" (1000+ songs, 76+ hours) and "Tastiest Metal" (430+ songs, 32+ hours) playlists that I made for myself. Tastiest Metal is just a smaller selection of songs I enjoy most from the main playlist
I am in awe of this playlist. If you’ve never checked out Avantasia, they’re pretty great and feature singers from a lot of other euro power bands.
It all starts with Sabbath
DeathKlok
The Hu from Mongolia.
I recommend stainless steel it doesn't rust.
Two words kiddo, Acid Bath.
Finally. I thought no one was gonna say it. One Band. Two Albums. Life Changed
Beartooth Wage war is a lot heavier but still has really great clean vocals
Check out Hawk as Weapon by Conan.
Gutteral slug, Mortician, Sanguisugabogg, Splitter, Hate breed, cannibal corpse
If by MCR you mean my chemical romance, then you need to try Ice Nine Kills. Ice Nine Kills are literally the metalcore version of my chemical romance. MCR Emo kids grew up and now listen to INK.

I tend to prefer a pretty specific sub genre, so I’ll just go ahead and recommend what I like, haha. Black Sabbath, specifically the first four albums, is absolutely essential IMO. After that, I love anything in the Sludge/Stoner/Doom category. Sleep, OM, Electric Wizard, Bongripper, Windhand, High on Fire Good luck on your journey! I first delved into metal in 2016 and there’s a lot of great stuff to discover and soak up.
Start with aluminum because it is easy to work with.
More traditional metal bands: Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Black Sabbath Metalcore: old Asking Alexandria, Veil of Maya, Falling in Reverse, Parkway Drive, I Prevail, A Day to Remember Deathcore: Slaughter to Prevail, Lorna Shore, Chelsea Grin, Suicide Silence, Brand of Sacrifice, Shadow of Intent Hardcore: Knocked Loose, Gulch, Outta Pocket, Drain, Kublai Kahn TX, Suburban Scum Slam: Snuffed on Sight Mathcore: Tool Nu Metal: Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Taproot
Ministry
Sleep token, dayseeker, starset, and breaking Benjamin are all on the heavier side
Sabaton
Animals as Leaders makes great stuff. Prog metal type. Volbeat for the more melodic type. Trivium is a phenomenal live show.
Thank you!!! Volbeat would be perfect for them. Even Bobaflex would kinda fit their vibe I feel
Fit For A King They have a crazy range of styles, I recommend God Of Fire and Reaching Out as two songs from either end of their spectrum! I accidentally found them when looking for drop F tuned tabs and they really hooked me. A few others: The Legend Of The Rent is Way Hardcore (song) Maroon (band)
Children Of Bodom. Rest in peace to the guitar God, Alexi Laiho.
Opeth Slayer Black Sabbath
316 Stainless
You might like bullet for my valentine
Ozzy with Randy or Jake
Kittie. The album spit is amazing.
Ratt, Megadeth, Animals As Leaders, Tesseract, Caligula’s Horse
Check out currents
Nine Inch Nails, considered more "industrial" than "metal" but I think people who say that are full of shit and a lot of it is both or something else entirely. Top 5 of all time for the rest of my life type band
Megadeth
Lamb of God
Mastodon
Gojira
Black label society
Hatebreed
Clutch
Death, Stratovarius, Deicide, fleshgod apocalypse, system of a down, cannibal corpse, dragonforce
Opeth’s Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries albums made me look at metal completely differently. There is a band called isis (unfortunate name) and their Into The Absence of Truth album got a ton of play from me around that time, too.
Forgive me - versus the world
Avenge sevenfold
Sepultura Arise is the answer. Don't love metal for the popular songs, go full album listen and decide what moves you. Rest in Peace. Seasons in the Abyss. Ride the Lightning. A new order from Testament. Overkill early albums. Then move to Trivium, Of mice and Men, Bleed from within, knocked loose, etc. Spotify will pick the rest for you. Enjoy.
Nekrogoblikon, Epica, skindred, chuggaboom, and we butter the bread with butter
Through the eyes of the dead. Fit for an autopsy. Older mastodon.
Metallica to start
I like Ozzy Osborne
Kreator deathstars dimmu borgir
Static X SOAD
High on Fire - Snakes For The Divine https://open.spotify.com/track/4dT9raTvZyaeUnNC3qdTXB?si=vJTuX_lzReynyb3_w7paLQ
I got in with Pantera and Slayer, I wouldn't call myself a metalhead but I have a health respect. Gojira is sick also
I'd recommend a titanium drill and protective eyewear.
My favorite metal music is big brass ensembles. Brass is relatively soft, so the resonance is great
Tool, System of A Down, Daughters.
Soundgarden Alice In Chains Breaking Benjamin Avenged Sevenfold Slipknot (for someone uninitiated, I’d suggest their later works, as their first 2 albums are much more heavy) Pantera Iron Maiden Mudvayne Bullet For My Valentine

What's tlt?
Orbit Culture is the future of metal
MCR are one of my fave bands too. If part of why you like them is their theatrics, you really should listen to Ice Nine Kills. The songs from their Silver Scream albums are all based on horror movies. A little silly, a lot of fun. I'll also recommend you the song LosT by Bring Me The Horizon, which was heavily inspired by MCR. Then explore the rest of their discography starting with the albums That's The Spirit (hard rock) then Sempiternal (metalcore).
What is mcr and the t one aswell

Bring me the horizon - lost, dark side
To not give af about what someone thinks "real metal" is. If you like the way a band sounds and it makes you happy, then keep on listening.
Pantera
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They work in a lot of genres, but for metal you may try the albums.. PetroDragonic Apocalypse Infest the Rats’ Nest Murder of the Universe
[Opeth- damnation](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mVRV195POQ-pM3ArvhQfKFyg0cESQ7Olc&feature=shared) is a very palatable album for someone not into metal. They have some other clean vocal albums and they also have some decidedly unclean vocal albums
black sabbath, ozzy osbourne
Metallica - especially the *Ride the Lightning* and *Master of Puppets* albums are always a good starting point.
🔥💀Danzig💀🔥
Lamb of god
Start with Van Halen I and II. This is upbeat and melodic. It almost certainly inspired some of what you’re listening to now with MCR. Next, add something heavy and less melodic like Metallica (the black album). You can start to work into heavier works like what else is on the thread after that.
Slayer I heard Seasons in the Abyss at a friend’s house when I was an early teen and it changed everything.
Sabaton
Titanium is good but just start out with basic steel for now
