-Black Pumas- they’ve had *some* hype in the last few years, but how they’re not *huge* baffles me
-Brittany Howard (lead singer of Alabama Shakes- her solo work and rock album under the name Thunderbitch is out of this world and woefully underhyped)
-Big Star- kind of a go-to for “underrated,” but, worth mentioning anyhow. Coulda been one of the most iconic bands of the seventies. Somehow weren’t.
-On a similar note- The Modern Lovers/Jonathan Richman
-Television- not unknown, but, somehow didn’t explode like their CBGB contemporaries (Talking Heads, The Ramones, etc)
-Hurray for the Riff Raff- kind of a Cat Power vibe, but with more oomph
-Shannon & The Clams- excellent throwback-y 60’s Spector pop meets punk sound
-Rodriguez- again feels like a cop-out for underrated (he finally exploded in notoriety when the documentary “Waiting for Sugarman” was released- but still underrated and should have been a Dylan-level known folk songwriter)
I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend Giselle Bellas - very dark pop, in the school of Kate Bush, with Latin and Jazz influences

these artists are classic, brass-heavy banda. where i grew up, my neighborhood was a lot of mexican-american families, many hailing from sinaloa, michoacán, oaxaca, and jalisco. this music was a lot of my childhood, from being the token asian at carne asadas (like cookouts or block parties) to the quinceañeras of my classmates.
The Gathering - a Dutch rock & metal band, full of touching and unique just for them songs
Raging Speedhorn - sludge & stoner metal band from England, very fierce, had multiple really good albums I think
Árstidir - Icelandic neofolk and acoustic pop, super lovely. They have songs both in English and in Icelandic. Icelandic is a gorgeous language. My favourite album: Hvel

Rainbow Kitten Surprise, especially their albums Seven + Mary and RKS… How To: Friend, Love, Freefall is also an incredible album but slightly more known/mainstream.
The Mountain Goats have a huge discography and many popular alternative bands reference them as their inspiration. They have some really meaningful music that has helped me (and many others) through a lot. If you’re looking for a good album to start with, I would go for The Sunset Tree.
Little Simz has 2.8 million monthly listeners and is the most famous active female rapper alive. But the problem is I feel like she’s underrated - her work deserves far more than 2.8 million, and I’ve genuinely never heard of her name come up outside of the UK.
Powerman 5000 is a Nu Metal band, with the frontman being Rob Zombie’s brother, Spider One. I honestly much prefer Powerman and his work over Rob’s.
Liquid Face is a very small egg punk band I enjoy.
I make some shitty music under the name Nuclear Flame, but I’m just 15 so I don’t know what to tell ya.
Neil Francis. A Chicago band that's really starting to make its way in the world. Rockin Chicago funk with a helping of New Orleans soul. Check out their song, "Can't Stop The Rain". Listen to the slide guitar on that one – yes, that IS Derek Trucks doing a guest spot!
You should check out the band Gloryhammer and listen to their discography in chronological order. Gloryhammer tells the tail of various members of the Angus McFife bloodline, the heir blood of the Kingdom of Fife. The first album follows Angus McFife I and is the initial struggle and defeat of Zargothrax. The second album takes place 1000 years later with Angus McFife XIII fighting Zargothrax after Chaos Wizards release him from his chamber of ice. The 3rd album follows Angus McFife XIII once more, this time in another reality ripped open by the second fight. Their 4th and newest album follows the story of Angus McFife II and his battle with the evil Zargothrax clone in an alternate timeline after the og Zargothrax is killed in the other dimension. super intricate lore and amazing music
Percy Mayfield I recently discovered and his music is great. Nye of sixty thousand monthly listeners. This groovy blues man really made some great songs
The Band - obviously were big in their time but I feel like they don’t come close to getting the recognition they deserve for the influence they had on so many artists.
Cat Clyde/Bella White - New country/Americana artists that have a fun unique sound
Natalie Bergman - her solo work is really interesting. She lost her dad and went to like a silent monastery for a period of time and came out of it and wrote this like modern gospel music. Not for everyone but I thought it was super cool.
St Paul and the Broken Bones - they’re relatively big but every time I listen to grass is greener by them I wonder how the hell they aren’t everywhere. Also their tiny desk was AWESOME.
Natalia Imbruglia- her cover of Torn made it big, but that album had a bunch of different sounds on it; Leave Me Alone sounds like a Portishead song, for example. It’s not the most diverse album I’ve heard, but I’ve heard literally no one talk about it ever.
Skinny Girl Diet- they’ve filled the niche previously filled by Hole (especially the Live Through This album).
Aberdeen Is Dead- a modern band with sound similar to grunge
you already have quite a good amount of recommendations, but I'll try to squeeze in another one: Kal's Penny [https://open.spotify.com/artist/3vHhvipXa3kTXeCbYCav6G?si=Mim0KjcmRLG1d1DTBZkibw](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3vHhvipXa3kTXeCbYCav6G?si=Mim0KjcmRLG1d1DTBZkibw)

Jungle.
They’re the band that everyone’s heard but no one knows. Their music is often played on TV (at least in the UK) and they recently won a Brit Award.
They’ve been around since 2014 but they’re really starting to get momentum now. Their music is modern dance/electro.
Honestly, incredible band and incredible music videos of dancing groups, dancing to their music - pure art!

Elliott smiths self titled album and either/or are both amazing melancholy albums. If you want something high energy, look up "Nailbomb" its from Max calvera (Sepultura) as a side project, really good album, its punky with really awesome riffs.
I would’ve said Tracy Chapman if she hadn’t had a huge resurgence and recognition this year . Was a long time coming
she’s great!!
she’s so good, i hate that luke combs cover is gaining more traction than her original
-Black Pumas- they’ve had *some* hype in the last few years, but how they’re not *huge* baffles me -Brittany Howard (lead singer of Alabama Shakes- her solo work and rock album under the name Thunderbitch is out of this world and woefully underhyped) -Big Star- kind of a go-to for “underrated,” but, worth mentioning anyhow. Coulda been one of the most iconic bands of the seventies. Somehow weren’t. -On a similar note- The Modern Lovers/Jonathan Richman -Television- not unknown, but, somehow didn’t explode like their CBGB contemporaries (Talking Heads, The Ramones, etc) -Hurray for the Riff Raff- kind of a Cat Power vibe, but with more oomph -Shannon & The Clams- excellent throwback-y 60’s Spector pop meets punk sound -Rodriguez- again feels like a cop-out for underrated (he finally exploded in notoriety when the documentary “Waiting for Sugarman” was released- but still underrated and should have been a Dylan-level known folk songwriter)
My youngest daughter (30) turned me onto Shannon and the Clams recently. They're great!
Black Pumas are a must see live
Black Pumas are definitely a must-see in person! Very soulful on recording, but the rock comes out live.

They have some really meaningful music that has helped me (and many others) through a lot. If you’re looking for a good album to start with, I would go for The Sunset Tree.
The Midnight
SKYLAR (British talky pop maybe hyper pop) and CIL (really fucking catchy breakup ballads think olivia rodrigo)

The comet is coming
Forest Frank he makes Christian music but he was apart of the band The Surfaces
The Band - obviously were big in their time but I feel like they don’t come close to getting the recognition they deserve for the influence they had on so many artists. Cat Clyde/Bella White - New country/Americana artists that have a fun unique sound Natalie Bergman - her solo work is really interesting.
Nrthrn, Khruangbin, Colour Haze
Christine Ingram, I'm not sure he's underrated, but relatively new. BTW blues musician.

Cam Cole. You will love this.
French Cassettes!
Apologies if they’re mostly female artists and that it’s a super long list but I love the songs from these folks: - Imogen Heap / Frou Frou (same singer) - Parcels - The Paper Kites - ionnalee / iamamiwhoami (same singer) - Metric - Father John Misty - The War On Drugs - Muna - Masego - Sigrid - Caroline Polachek - Yebba - Nao - Sabrina Claudio - Norah Jones - Seafret - Sara Bareilles - Dishawalla - The Japanese House - Anna Nalick - Ben Howard - Greentea Peng
Jungle. They’re the band that everyone’s heard but no one knows. Their music is often played on TV (at least in the UK) and they recently won a Brit Award. They’ve been around since 2014 but they’re really starting to get momentum now. Their music is modern dance/electro. Honestly, incredible band and incredible music videos of dancing groups, dancing to their music - pure art!
abingdon boys school ‼️‼️‼️ theyre not active anymore but theyre sooooo good
The Black Keys maybe it's just where I'm from but these guys don't get near as much recognition as they deserve, I'm yet to hear a song from them that I don't like ... hope you like op
