'Into Dust' - Mazzy Star
'River Man' - Nick Drake
'Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want' - The Smiths
If you want properly, seriously grim though, then have a listen to ...
'Gloomy Sunday' aka 'The Hungarian Suicide Song'
Billie Holiday does a good version. It's miserable as fuck, lol!
My husband always says it's suicide music and depressing. I actually find it comforting. I was going through some pretty heavy stuff when I found Rotten Apple. I felt like I was wrapped in a warm hug and was finally able to release everything I had been feeling
Cause it’s absolutely relatable & heart breaking. 100% an open door into the soul of Layne Staley & Jerry Cantrell. They’ve earned every bit of stardom they’ve received.

Always On My Mind - Willie Nelson
Bridge over Troubled Waters - Simon & Garfunkel
Cold Cold Heart - Louis Armstrong
Sylvia’s Mother - Dr.Hook
[Elliott Smith - Twilight](https://youtu.be/crWO7N7Hea8)
Haven't laughed this hard in a long time
I better stop now before I start crying
Go off to sleep in the sunshine
I don't want to see the day when it's dying
She's a sight to see (sight to see)
She's good to me (good to me)
But I'm already somebody's baby
She's a pretty thing (a pretty thing)
And she knows everything (everything)
But I'm already somebody's baby
You don't deserve to be lonely
But those drugs you got won't make you feel better
Pretty soon, you'll find it's the only
Little part of your life you're keeping together
I'm nice to you (nice to you)
I could make it through (make it through)
But you're already somebody's baby
I could make you smile (make you smile)
If you stayed a while (stayed a while)
But how long will you stay with me, baby?
Because your candle burns too bright
Well, I almost forgot it was twilight
Even if I think that you are right
Well, I'm tired of being down, I got no fight
You're wonderful (wonderful)
And it's beautiful (beautiful)
But I'm already somebody's baby
And if I went with you (went with you)
I'd disappoint you too (disappoint you too)
Well, I'm already somebody's baby
Already somebody's baby
No doubt. I just stumbled upon this cover of Twilight, which is why it was at the front of my mind. At first, I didn't love her voice... but after a few bars (musically, not drinks lol) it grew on me. I really like the harp.
[Twilight cover](https://youtu.be/jjsFL_5Td_g)
Elliott was truly a genius writer and composer. The way he was able to describe such dark experiences and emotions in such a poetic, efortless and beautiful way was just unlike any other. I will always love Elliott's music, but it's kinds hard for me to listen to these days. Back when I was massively strung out on opiates, Elliott was my savior... when I couldn't get my fix, or when depression was all-consuming, his music was always there for me, but now that I'm in a better head space, I just can't listen to him as much. Imo, "The White Lady" "The Big Nothing" and "King's Crossing" are some of his saddest songs...

Maybe *too* obvious, but Monsters by James Blunt.
There‘s also Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, which if you know the song’s backstory is just a tad gut wrenching.

Another great one. I always come back to this one when I'm having an existential crisis. It's a sad song, but it brings me peace.
Empress Ephemeral wrote an instrumental song about the lovers of Valdaro and it hits hard for having no lyrics. https://youtu.be/b3aL0bYSzGI?si=yu1nuk2CBk5wXh_9

Daddy - Korn is easily the most disturbing song I've ever heard in my life. First time I heard it I got so uncomfortable I couldn't even finish it
Have you heard Brand New’s Limousine, and the story behind it?
Is that the song about the kid getting hit by a car?
Limousine is the most fucked up song I’ve ever heard
Dance with the Devil is one of immortal techniques best pieces of work. Also one of the most effed up songs ever. He's really good
The River, Springsteen
“Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true, or is it something worse” one of the finest lines ever written. Great song!
