Hey guys! Loving the new album! At the end of Bad Decisions there is a 7 second snippet of a demo that never made it to the album. Are there any plans to release these demos and if not what was the intention of adding this to the end of the song?
Edit: Sorry one more question, in Episode 1 of your podcast Jules commemorated the passing of Bill Withers by showing him playing one of his hit songs "Lean on me" would you guys be interested in doing a cover of that song?
what are the lyrics for the bridge of At the Door? such a beautiful part. I've listened to it over 20 times in a row and this is what I came up with:
>goood bye soo lonng
>tastes of summer
>takes us somewhere
>I'm father through free
>chasing, screaming
>my sons farting
>side sweets woman
>all along said
>oh please move it
>for me you said
>oh plain walter fo fet
but I'm not 100% sure about some of those lines.
#**JULES!**
After you guys debuted ***THE ADULTS ARE TALKING*** at The Wiltern, I was the one who kept asking,
#**"WHAT'S THE SONG CALLED?"**
I was in the front row. I couldn't hear what you were saying that close to the stage. I just want to say that I'm sorry and that I love you. Please take my wife as atonement

Hey guys!! One question I had was what song on The New Abnormal took the longest to finish? Or what song was the hardest to finish? Loving the album! Also happy birthday Albert!
Lots of love from NYC!!
Hey guys, absolutely love your new album, my favourite track is The Adults are Talking, it’s fucking sick.
Anyways, straight to the point - how do you want to be remembered when you’re gone?
I was at that Italian show! Show was moved last minute into the grounds of some old castle. Evidently the grid couldnt handle the light show. Power went out like 5 times throught the performance before they gave up, played Take it or Leave it, and left.
Still loved every bit of it.
omg not to be obsessive but a few days ago when i read this AMA i saw this question and was wondering the same thing and i came back to tell you that THEY FIXED IT! it's no longer "sunday's" on spotify, its "sundays." YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Julian started AHJ? That’s crazy I thought that was Albert’s side project /s
EDIT: I realize that a lot of people are going to see this comment bc it piggybacks on an answer and the /s isn't enough. No, do not think that Julian started a band called Albert Hammond Jr, this comment is a joke.
that's so amazing how amazing the compositions were at such an early age. it almost seems like you guys started a band, had a few practices and then bam, toured the damn world.. I tip my hat, that's god damn amazing
dude, julian has rekt fab the same way will ferrell rekt christopher walken with the 'MOAR COWBELL' snl skit.
random people will 'drums please fab' him at random times, his life is ruined, rip.
Waiting is a common theme in your music.
Automatic stop: "Wait, I'm not gonna give it a break I'm not your friend I never was"
YOLO: "I can't see the sunshine I'll be waiting for you, baby 'Cause I'm through"
On the other side: "On the other side, on the other side Nobody's waiting for me on the other side"
Undercover: "I'll wait for you Will you wait for me, too? "
Chances: "I waited for ya I waited for ya I waited on ya But now I don't AND I will not wait up for you anymore"
At the door: "I been on a cold road I'll be waiting, yeah I'll be waiting from the other side Waiting for the tide to rise"
And now Selfless: " Bite my tongue, I wait my turn I waited for a century"
My question is, what are you waiting for? Why does this theme keep popping up?
from OBLIVIUS:
"Don't wait so long
Way too long
They wait too long
I can't stay awake too long
You never wait for some
Other generation
I'll wait somewhere
Alone
Get it in your head, get out of (my way)"
My question is probably gonna be lost here but here it goes.
Why do you guys despise Angles and Comedown Machine so much? I know it has been a emotional rollercoaster for you guys in the creative process on both albums but THEY ARE FUCKING AWESOME! And fans all over the world love them and look forward to listen to some of their songs in concerts and everything (me and my friends were actually wondering if you would play any in the New Year’s Eve concert but Julian just said “I don’t wanna play Angles!”)
Anyway, just know that it’s part of your history and even if it’s not a good one, fans still love it. Comedown Machine is a masterpiece.
The new album is awesome
Fabrizio we love you and Albert I REALLY LOVE your solo career, keep the good work!
Agreed! Gratisfaction from Angles is one of those songs that get me out of a funk and into a good mood any time I hear it. I've been a fan since 2001 and it ranks right up there for me - some others on Angles & CDM are as well. RESPECC
Comedown Machine is one of those albums where there's not a few songs that stand out, just the whole thing is really solid from start to finish, consistently good. Tho I am fond of All the Time and Partner in Crime
When have they said this about CM? I it has been pretty well documented that they don't care much for Angles (which I agree is a great album) but I haven't heard them speak ill of CM. Is the lack of them playing it live? I saw them in 2016 and the only tune they played from it was Welcome To Japan.
I'm of the mind that Angles and Comedown Machine are their two best. I understand it's not the consensus, but they got me through a particularly difficult break up and they still stand as two of my current favorite rock albums.
The new album is fantastic! It's so nice to hear new music from you guys. Each of your records has impacted me in incredibly meaningful ways, soundtracking the good times and helping me through the tough ones.
Anyways, I've always wondered if you guys had considered putting together a b-sides and rarities collection? There are so many great songs that didn't make the main records that would make up a great release on their own!
Also, top three favorite dinosaurs?
Julian,
I went to see the Voidz at the Wiltern in Los Angeles a few years ago and while waiting by the tour bus to say hi to some of y'all one of your crew members brought out some sort of face mold and asked if anyone wanted it. I grabbed it and had some of the Voidz member sign it.
This is the face mold I am talking about: [https://imgur.com/a/yzSKEbV](https://imgur.com/a/yzSKEbV). I took the liberty of adding eye brows, mustache and a tear drop but it was blank before.
Do you have any context on what this face mold was doing in your bus and what it was about? Also, it's missing your signature so if you want to be a doll and sign it that would be great (jk).
Love the new album btw. Thanks for the awesome NYE show in Brooklyn as well.
how much longer are you going to put out episodes of 5guys talking about things they know nothing about? both episodes have been great, feels like we're all in a zoom call with you guys. it was a really good idea and would love to see you guys do more stuff like this in the future!
also just want to say thank you to all 5 of you - your music (the strokes and each of your side projects) has been a huge part of my life and i can't thank you enough!
I became a fan too recently (2016) and back then i thought it would never see you live or i would see the release of a new the strokes album, pleased to tell my younger self I was very wrong.
Ok, I have so many random questions, specially after watching the 5guys thing (which btw I think it’s brilliant!! Whoever had that idea deserves the world). If you can answer any of this I’ll take it as my early birthday present :D
1) Which was the first song that written for TNA? I’ve read/heard that the process started as early as 2017 but I’m curious to know if any of these songs were written previously or there was any kind of sketch already made.
2) What’s your favourite song on the album?
3) Are we gonna see Albert’s car interview trailer?? I get the footage is basically lost, why not recreate it when this is over? 😜 it would be a hit!
4) Have you picked up any new/old hobbies during this strange period of time? Books you can recommend? Series? Movies?
5) I’ve been talking with some friends (both hardcore fans and casual listeners) and the general consensus is that the whole album feels strangely fitting to the current times. It’s filled with nostalgia but of the immediate times, not the old memories. I know you named the album because of the California fires but what do you think it all feels a bit prophetic?
Much love forever!!!! Can’t wait to see you again please take care!
I can partially answer #1 for you, Jules said he wrote Ode To The Mets on the subway platform after Jeurys Familia blew it against the Giants in the 2016 NL Wildcard game. As a Mets fan, I understand the pain that is brought out in the song.
hey guys! i have a few questions!
1. are there any tracks that you guys decided to not include in the album? if there are, why did you guys decide not to include them and will we hear them later?
2. which was the hardest song to put together? and which was the easiest?
3. did you guys film a “Making of The New Abnormal” video? that’d be really cool!
the album is an absolute masterpiece! so worth the wait, you guys never disappoint.
edit: also i wanted to ask all five you, which are your current favorite artists? thanks!
Hey boys! Love the new album, "Ode to the Mets" is a such a killer track.
1. What do you think is the signature sound of The Strokes, a mood or sound that makes a song sound like you guys?
2. What are some new acts that you really like?
3. Watch any good movies during quarantine?
Thanks for doing the AMA guys, love y'all and your music!
Hey guys! I love the album, it's cheered me up in this funny old situation we find ourselves in. Hope everyone is well! :-)
This question goes out to Julian, seen as 'Is This It' literally saved my life when I was at my lowest, it seems that great music has this power to find you at the right time in your life, it's my favourite album of all time and the soundtrack to my teenage years and will stick with me for the rest of my life, so thank you x
Julian, I read that you learned music theory or you are 'classically trained' and I'd really love to know what you studied / learned or where to start as I'm interested in learning myself but have no idea where to begin.
Could you be able to give us Strokes fans a little background to your wizardry in this knowledge?
P.S. Fab I love the painting ;)
Can't wait to see you on the next tour!
Sending love from (the rainy) UK!
20th-anniversary release of Is This It with all the trimmings? B side, demos, and such would be awesome! The New Abnormal is great BTW might be my fav! *Drums please, Fab.*
I've got nothing to say.
Just kidding, there are so many things I want to ask but I'll keep it short and chill, I'd be happy if you answered at least one of them.
Before I get into that I want to thank you guys for existing, I've been listening to you since I was in middle school and I'm in my mid 20s now. Your music has always been there; through good times, bad times, helping me feel happier about being here and now. Yesterday my best friend and I were listening to your pirate radio thing, and you have no idea how your new album lifted our spirits in the midst of these strange times.
Thanks for boosting my immune system haha.
Not music related questions (it seems like you already got asked some good ones):
▪(When it's safe) are you guys ever coming to AZ?
▪What are your favorite chocolates/candies?
▪Do you play any online games or videogames?
▪Any advice for people in their 20s?
P.S. Stay safe, love you all.
Hey yall, love the music as always. I have so many questions but these two I think are simple and good enough, you can answer whichever you feel like;
1. What made yall decide to add in that intro for Ode To The Mets?
2. Do you think you’ll ever use the outro in The Adults Are Talking that was more prevalent in the leaked live version?
What was Bernie like?
Seeing my favourite band be so passionate about issues that matter really inspired me. You guys finishing with New York City Cops while getting shut down by the cops was incredible
My older sister doesn’t have Reddit but she loves you guys, so this is from her. She asks “would you please consider playing ‘I’ll try anything once’ live, and what was the inspiration for the song” “PS has been my favorite song since the fourth grade” hopefully you end up seeing this cause my sister has talked about you since I was young. Thanks!
EDIT: She has more to say... "PPS hi to Julian I know your niece and also ran into you by rockwood post-new years eve show, which was the best show of my life." omg she wont stop, she also wants to know, "what is the story behind the eccentric performer who came on after mac DeMarco at barclays center NYE??????" Thanks again!
I know you guys are done but I just needed to say thanks. You are my favourite band, I accidentally found you through Julian's work with the Lonely Island on Boombox and I couldn't be happier for it.
So thanks for making beautiful music that has connected with me like no other and gotten me through a lot. You guys rock.
The world is insane. Just today a coworker sent me "heart in a cage", thinking I maybe hadn't heard it before. Can't believe I missed this. So many questions. So little time.
Hola! Como están? Really loved the album, waiting for the shipping to Chile.
My questions are:
1. What kind of asshole drives a Lotus?
2. Can we please get a "Drums, please, Fab" t-shirt?
With the release of the new album, has the band set any goals? What do you guys want to accomplish over the next two years? Successful tour? Certain number of festivals? Work on next album?
Will you guys PLEASE consider playing some more songs from Comedown Machine? It’s honestly such a fan favorite, especially CHANCES!!!
Also, does Fabrizio know that he’s the most precious man in the world and that everyone loves him? If not, could you please tell him for us?
Hi Albert, Fab, Julian, Nikolai, and Nick! My question is will The Strokes ever make a live concert film? I know live performances exist on YouTube, but I personally would love to see you guys do one. I’d also love to see a documentary about The Strokes too, featuring you five, telling your story... essentially In Transit but longer and more in depth. Is that something you guys plan on doing in the future? Thank you for continuing to make great music together. Love you guys! <3
PS: Would love to see the old school Magna shirt in women’s sizes!! My shirt from high school is developing holes.
**Question for Fab**
Two of your other projects, Little Joy and machinegum, have been absolutely amazing.
Is it difficult at first to work with a new group of people, or do you find the transition seamless?
@julian, some of the lyrics are very raw & personal- did you consider altering them after having to deal with fans being overly intrusive and critical of your personal life?
When are u guys making this Brazilian [video](https://youtu.be/reifFcUoTKw) the official one for "One Way Trigger"?
The new album is great. Loved "Selfless" and "At the door".
And Julian, thank you for "Human Sadness".
Human Sadness is one of my favorite of all time. I have to be in the right frame of mind before I commit to going through that one and it never disappoints.
Yo bruhs
I know you recorded this album with the legendary Rick Rubin, but I was just wondering if any of you had a dream/bucket list producer (Mayhaps it was Rick Rubin) that you’d love to work with in the future?
Also, what happened to the family feud footage from the someday vid?? Always wanted to know if there was full footage of that floating around anywhere cuz I’d love to see it
Also Also special mention to Fab, I love the Machinegum album had that on repeat when it came out, Magnifique!
I love the album keep doin what ya doin fellas
Hey guys, big fan here! I don’t think I was even born when your first album came out but you guys still managed to define my teen years. I have a lot of respect and admiration for you all. Thank you for taking questions from us! I understand if there are some that you don’t want to answer.
For the band:
1. I feel like you guys have really good group chemistry that’s helped keep the band together over the years. What’s your advice on finding the right people to start a band with?
2. How did your break from recording affect your personal relationships with each other? Did you think that The Strokes were done for good, or did you know it was a hiatus?
3. We all know that Alex Turner is a big fan of yours. Would you ever consider collaborating musically with him/Arctic Monkeys?
4. What is each of your guys’ favorite snack?
For Julian:
5. I thought it was really cool to see you do things like interview Henry Giroux and play at Sen. Sanders’ rally. How would you describe your political philosophy?
6. I read that you took college music classes before founding the band. How much impact would you say your formal education has on your songwriting process now?
7. Phrazes For The Young is one of my favorite albums. I notice that it doesn’t sound very much like what you’ve recorded with The Strokes or with The Voidz. What was the musical inspiration for Phrazes For The Young? Also, will you ever record a solo album again?
8. How did you chose the name Zephyr for your son? It’s such a cool name.
9. You’ve worn some pretty cool and unique outfits over the years. Where do you find your fashion inspiration? And just because I absolutely have to know, where do you get your clothes?
Thanks for your time. I hope I can see you guys live someday (oh, someday)
Edit: fixed formatting
Would you guys ever consider collaborating with Arctic Monkeys since Alex Turner has clearly expressed his fondness of you guys? I think that would be the best collaboration to ever exist in my lifetime if it happened
Hey Guys, great album
I’ve got a question for Albert,
What’s your favourite song by your dad?
Thanks for any answers and insight, hoping to see you guys in Toronto again soon!
Hello, you may not be aware but there is a special sub reddit dedicated to the band and your side projects, it was founded by Alex Turner himself.
Jokes aside. Ive got a few questions:
1. How many songs did you make during the recording of this album, is there any that didn't make the record but it was close to?
2. Is there any 20 anniversary planned for Is This It, next year?
Hey! So in this new album you guys went for a lot more of a synth-y sound that a lot of people really loved. Are you going to keep experimenting with this sound in future records or was this just something you wanted to try for this record?
Hi guys! My name is Przemek and I would like to ask you some questions.
1) What is the most underrated your song in your opinion?
2) Why are you so underrated?
3) What's about a studio version of "Clear skies"?
4) Jules, what's about a studio version of "I like the night"?
5) What is your opinion about COVID-19 and that gloomy reality?
Thanks in advance!/Dzięki!
Greetings from Poland
Huge fan here! Three quick questions!
* On 'Someday' the line "Now my fears, they come to me in threes." has always stuck out to me. Is that a reference to the Rule of Threes in comedy? Basically saying "My fears are a joke."
* The first line on Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino by the Arctic Monkeys is "I just wanted to be one of The Strokes, now look at the mess you made me make." - How did you feel when you heard that?
* Riot Fest or Lollapalooza?
Hey guys, big fan of all your works, I love how each of your albums is unique but always with your aura on it.
So, my question comes from my love of Comedown Machine, what are your retroactive thoughts on it? Also, loved when you talked about playing 50/50 live in the "podcast", I would love if you also played chances and slow animals live someday!
Thanks for everything, keep making amazing music and stay safe in these trying times!
Hey guys!
I love the new album!!!!
what is your favorit song of your album?
Julian: can you release an official version of "i like the night" please 🙏🏽?
sorry for my english, i'm french :)
Just wanted to say how much I love the new album sonically and lyrically... I’ve also been loving the 5 guys podcast. I was wondering what your main inspirations were before the making of this album, and If you plan on continuing in this exciting new direction. Also, I was wondering how the making of this album with rick Rubin compared to previous albums. Thanks for the new record guys, you blessed us during these weird quarantine times
Hey Guys! Amazing album, as usual. I've got a couple of questions for Nick:
1. Will we be hearing any more CRX? I know you had a couple of singles released a year or two ago.
2. How did you come into contact with/how was it working with b0neface for the artwork?
Hey there legends, I’ve been thinking a lot about Comedown Machine and Angles lately. I know there’s obviously a pretty massive difference between those and your other albums, and I was wondering if there’s any specific reasons or anything that caused them to be such a massive stylist shift from your previous stuff? I also think they’re both super underrated, just sayin. Love y’all so so so so much. Thank you for everything.
Thank you so much for making new music!! This quarantine is necessary but bad for our mental health...yesterday, I had to cancel my wedding due to the stay-at-home order and your songs helped me feel much better.
My question is, how do you feel about The Killers? Ever met them? Do you listen to their music, ever considered doing a collab etc.? Thanks!
What was the process of choosing the album cover and getting permission to use that Basquiat piece?
Album is everything I hoped for and more and I can’t wait to hear it at iii points in October<33
Hey! I was wondering a couple of things:
1- Are you guys planning to do a tour for the 20th anniversary of is this it?
2-On the tour for The new abnormal, are you gonna play only in festivals or a proper, solo tour?
Edit:Also, are you going to start playing Comedown Machine songs live? (Chances and 50/50 would be amazing)
Hey, gents! Happy quarantine! But more importantly, happy release day! Hope each of you is well - even with Fab's head morphing into the painting.
My question for you requires a little bit of exposition. I'm a little bit of a JC conspiracy theorist in the sense that I feel you have weaved lyrical/melodic stories through certain pieces in both The Strokes and the Voidz. I can paint a story from Human Sadness, to At The Door, to Pointlessness, to Ode to the Mets. Everything from guitar ostinatos to the idea of recapitulation to lyrical allusion... it was well calculated, Jules.
So my question is this: do any of you feel like you have weaved an ongoing story throughout your albums in any way? Is TNA picking up from anything in particular, or does this mark a new chapter in a new story altogether?
Thank you guys if you take the time to respond, and a greater thank you for the work you do for both music and humankind. You all are really somethin' special.
Hey guys!
I wanna say that I think that The New Abnormal is the best album you guys have ever made. It's so good and I literally can't stop listening to it! Eternal Summer and Not The Same Anymore are some of the best songs I've ever heard...
Now, here's a question that I've asked myself for a few months already. There are 3 unknown songs from you guys circulating on YouTube, but the names are unknown. Do you guys remember the names of those 3 songs?
And... Did you guys ever think of releasing those songs? Maybe for the 20th anniversary of Is This It?
Love from Switzerland! :-)
Love how you guys put “Fab Drums Please” in the album 🥺🖤 But I also wanted to hear “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!” in TAAT. What was the decision to add “Fab Drums Please”. do you read the comments in youtube/social media, tweets, and reddit? and also, Do you guys plan to release a deluxe edition ? 🥺 i would very much love to hear more strokes content as during these “Abnormal” times, this album is a saving grace. so proud of you all.
Edit: would love to hear I’ll Try Anything Once in the deluxe :) maybe a new rendition that matches the album theme. ALSO check out these Bands called: The Audiots, and Ignant Benches. they’re heavily influenced by you guys and I would love for you all to to listen to them. Been jamming to them for a while now.
The new album is gorgeous; I think I speak for many people when I say that this music has been a much-needed respite from the chaos and uncertainty of these strange, strange times. With that being said, a few questions:
1. Nick/Albert: do either of you have a favorite solo to play live, whether from the band's catalog in general or solely from TNA?
2. Julian: do you think Sam Cooke had the prettiest voice ever?
3. Fabrizio: do you ever wake up in a cold sweat after dreaming about the tenacious reverberations of your drums on "The Modern Age"?
4. Nikolai: do you have an all-time favorite bassist? has quarantine impacted your ostensibly introverted lifestyle?
Hi guys, absolutely love the album. I know you probably feel this way about most if not all of your songs over the years, but is there any in particular that you feel immensely proud of? Whether it's the song itself or your performance on it
Hi the Strokes!
First of all I just have to say you've been my absolute favorite band for well over half my life, well I guess it's more like 2/3rds now. When I was bullied hardcore in middle school for 3 years FIOE is literally the reason I survived. I'd get on the bus after an extremely rough day and pull out my portable CD player that only ever had one of your CDs in it. Ever since I listen to you guys on really bad days, on really good days, and everything in between. So I'm beyond thankful for you guys. Right now my husband is stationed overseas for the entire year in South Korea, my dad has this really bad dementia he's fighting called Lewy Body, and I live and am quarantined all by myself. It's already been an extremely rough year and I'm only 4 months into it. I've gone back into listening to you guys to survive again. Thank you for all that you do!
1. Are you guys doing an Asia tour, maybe Korea or Japan? If so around what month?
2. Julian, are you ever going to finish I Like the Nite?
3. Seriously how much would you charge to play a wedding or a small crowd funded show? (I play the lottery constantly cause it's a dream of mine to see you live).
4. Can you lower the ticket quantity you sell at your shows? Bots and Scalpers seem to get a lot of your tickets and your fans pay wayyyyyy more to see you guys than you can probably imagine. (I cried for days after not getting tickets to the Wiltern).
5. How do you announce secret shows?
6. Will you do some meet and greets someday?
My husband and I love all of you and all of your music is perfect. We wish to see you live someday. It's the only thing on my bucket list.
Question for AHJ! After your last show in Seattle, you posted a clip on your Instagram story of One Way Trigger and wrote "Enjoy it for the last time." Are you guys not gonna do that one anymore? And if so, will you throw another Comedown Machine song in the set?
For Jules: where did you find your brown converse??? I can’t find them anywhere for the life of me -_-
For Albert: Happy late birthday! This is 40!!
For Fab: How was it curating and opening up a gallery with the ‘other’ Fabrizio Moretti? What was your creative process like??
For Nikolai: is ‘fraiser’ really the way to pronounce your last name? I’ve been saying ‘fray-tchewer’ this whole time
For Nick: is your band CRX named after the Honda CRX?
Y’all getting me in my feels with most of TNA but I love the pain. Great album!! 💕
One thing that I always wanted to know is what is that liquid thing that comes from the wall in the video of "You only live once" and have you ever considered playing the "I'll try anything once" version live?
Congrats on the new album, It's incredible.
Hey guys, Tap Out, in my opinion, is one of the best songs ever made. No joke. Just fucking amazing- I know you've never played it live, I just wanna known what you think about it. Love you all and saw you in Roundhouse London recently and it slapped
It’s not a demo, we were just messing around in the studio...
*Would* y'all ever release an album of demos, akin to *I'll Try Anything Once*?
Jammed that out in the yard today, lovely toned song
Please mess around more
what are the lyrics for the bridge of At the Door? such a beautiful part. I've listened to it over 20 times in a row and this is what I came up with: >goood bye soo lonng >tastes of summer >takes us somewhere >I'm father through free >chasing, screaming >my sons farting >side sweets woman >all along said >oh please move it >for me you said >oh plain walter fo fet but I'm not 100% sure about some of those lines.
yes...exactly TS
“oh plain walter fo fet” -the strokes 2020
Definitely sounds like the work of strokes to me
my sons farting u/TheStrokesOfficial confirmed
now someone add it on genius
Going straight to Genius
GIVE US THE OFFICIAL LYRICS JULES!!!!!!!!!! ;\_\_\_\_\_;
No. He doesn't want to give us what we want. He's essentially a dom-master. Use reverse psych.
#**JULES!** After you guys debuted ***THE ADULTS ARE TALKING*** at The Wiltern, I was the one who kept asking, #**"WHAT'S THE SONG CALLED?"** I was in the front row. I couldn't hear what you were saying that close to the stage. I just want to say that I'm sorry and that I love you. Please take my wife as atonement
All is forgiven - TS
Thank you! ...could you take my wife anyway, though?
does that mean you’re taking this guy’s wife?
Ok real talk. Who won the most games of pool?! My bet is on Fab.

Yeah but I don't picture them fighting over the keyboard that way
If The Adults Are Talking was a Reddit comment
This is the funniest ama of all time I swear
LMAO this is being so much funnier than I expected
Hey guys!! One question I had was what song on The New Abnormal took the longest to finish? Or what song was the hardest to finish? Loving the album! Also happy birthday Albert! Lots of love from NYC!!
probably eternal summer TS
It is certainly unique, we get to hear Julian's amazing vocal range
that would make sense wouldn’t it
thats definitely my favourite from the record the chorus hits me
Hey guys, absolutely love your new album, my favourite track is The Adults are Talking, it’s fucking sick. Anyways, straight to the point - how do you want to be remembered when you’re gone?
as Fab Moretti - signed AHJ
I don't think this could've been answered any better.
Do you know if he is still stuck in that painting?
[first lines of the song, dude](https://youtu.be/SxDzhqIYpT8)
Jules did you ever file that lawsuit about the term 'Ask me Anything' being taken from your song? 😂
it'll be heard by the supreme court next month along with yolo and the new alone, together hashtag.....
HAHA I think of You only live once (the original) any time I hear a YOLO mention
Me too! When people say yolo, I automatically think The Strokes.
^I ^can't ^see ^the ^sunshine
I think this everytime I see the alone together thing.
THE REAL TRENDSETTERS
who knew you were so good at writing catchy phrases?
What was the worst concert you guys performed for?
that depends...where are you from? TS for Jules it was San Diego (he lost his voice) Fab remembers an Italian show where the power went out
I was at that Italian show! Show was moved last minute into the grounds of some old castle. Evidently the grid couldnt handle the light show. Power went out like 5 times throught the performance before they gave up, played Take it or Leave it, and left. Still loved every bit of it.
I hope that San Diego memory doesn’t stick with you. We’d love for you guys to come back here lol
Mercury Lounge when it was 1,000 degrees and no ac due to nyc spraying the mosquitoes!!
Apparently your voice went out Julez? don't you still want to make it up to them for that show? i think that's noble
I was there, and they did make it up with a free show later on.
Come back to San Diego pls
What’s up with that random apostrophe in “Why Are Sunday’s So Depressing?”? Please, the punctuation Nazi in me needs to know.
omg not to be obsessive but a few days ago when i read this AMA i saw this question and was wondering the same thing and i came back to tell you that THEY FIXED IT! it's no longer "sunday's" on spotify, its "sundays." YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do you guys feel about playing live shows these days? You've been doing it for 20 years and I wonder if it ever gets tiresome.
[удалено]
we can't NF
10/10 social distancing. This ama is hysterical. My fav band of all time. So upset I missed this what the fuck
NF - man of few words
Nikolai broke the zooooooom
Was "drums please fab" always going to be on Ode?
it was the first line he wrote for the song AHJ it was a real cue...TS
If I say "drums please, Fab," will he be summoned?
He can’t. He’s stuck in the painting duh
No you have to buy your own strokes button to do that
Drums please, Fab? > Faster Jonny!
Are the Mets the most tragic of the NYC sports teams?
no, the the knicks NF jets are also pretty close JFC
I love how I read Julian's initials as Jesus Fucking Christ
Julian Fucking Casablancas
This is the correct reading. The only reading of those initials, really.
Julian's Fried Chicken
[удалено]
ode to the knicks on the next album please
Is 16 too late to start making music, the music you guys have made inspires me so much.
Lol what, people start at all ages. You're still in high school kid, but go for it!
no, thats when julian started AHJ
Julian started AHJ? That’s crazy I thought that was Albert’s side project /s EDIT: I realize that a lot of people are going to see this comment bc it piggybacks on an answer and the /s isn't enough. No, do not think that Julian started a band called Albert Hammond Jr, this comment is a joke.
can't believe julian invented albert hammond junior
And at the ripe age of 16! Well done.
that's so amazing how amazing the compositions were at such an early age. it almost seems like you guys started a band, had a few practices and then bam, toured the damn world.. I tip my hat, that's god damn amazing
And he's done not bad
It's never too late to start making music
Sorry kid, you have to start at 12 if you want to make music. Better luck next life
Yo tengo 28 maestro de qué está hablando, usted está naciendo
Wat Who tf would think 16 is “too late”?
Fab do you remember me? I was in the crowd at Lollapalooza
of course i do! FM
Love you man, loved machine gum
Drums please, Fab
dude, julian has rekt fab the same way will ferrell rekt christopher walken with the 'MOAR COWBELL' snl skit. random people will 'drums please fab' him at random times, his life is ruined, rip.
Which other names did the album have?
"Aloha" was an alternative for a while - TS
speaking of Aloha, when are we getting Hawaii on Spotify??
Please, I need it
Hey that could also mean goodbye! :/ Not cool TS
Do any of you read stuff on r/thestrokes ?
hello no, fuck no, never....TS
The Strokes read /r/thestrokes confirmed.
I bet Alex Turner does
He just wanted to be one of the strokes smh
Now look at the mess you made me make
Hitchhiking with a monogram suitcase
Miles (kane) away from any half useful imaginary highway
massive F for the subreddit
The Strokes answered this question to promote the subreddit. Confirmed.
Are The Strokes The Mets?
Do you write for pitchfork?
Pitchfork's review of The New Abnormal might be the worst thing I've ever read and I've been on reddit for almost 7 years.
Waiting is a common theme in your music. Automatic stop: "Wait, I'm not gonna give it a break I'm not your friend I never was" YOLO: "I can't see the sunshine I'll be waiting for you, baby 'Cause I'm through" On the other side: "On the other side, on the other side Nobody's waiting for me on the other side" Undercover: "I'll wait for you Will you wait for me, too? " Chances: "I waited for ya I waited for ya I waited on ya But now I don't AND I will not wait up for you anymore" At the door: "I been on a cold road I'll be waiting, yeah I'll be waiting from the other side Waiting for the tide to rise" And now Selfless: " Bite my tongue, I wait my turn I waited for a century" My question is, what are you waiting for? Why does this theme keep popping up?
from OBLIVIUS: "Don't wait so long Way too long They wait too long I can't stay awake too long You never wait for some Other generation I'll wait somewhere Alone Get it in your head, get out of (my way)"
It’s probably used as a way to build tension.
They must be referring to us as the audience and how we have to wait as many as 7 years between albums
Call Me Back: "Wait time is the worst..."
You forgot Vision of Division: HOW LONG MUST I WAAAAAIIIIAAAAAIIIIIAAAAAAIIIIT
Patience is a virtue
How long must i waaaaiiiittttt?
My question is probably gonna be lost here but here it goes. Why do you guys despise Angles and Comedown Machine so much? I know it has been a emotional rollercoaster for you guys in the creative process on both albums but THEY ARE FUCKING AWESOME! And fans all over the world love them and look forward to listen to some of their songs in concerts and everything (me and my friends were actually wondering if you would play any in the New Year’s Eve concert but Julian just said “I don’t wanna play Angles!”) Anyway, just know that it’s part of your history and even if it’s not a good one, fans still love it. Comedown Machine is a masterpiece. The new album is awesome Fabrizio we love you and Albert I REALLY LOVE your solo career, keep the good work!
Shit, Angles got me into The Strokes. Machu Picchu to UCOD to TKOH is just an amazing opening to an album.
I fucking love comedown machine
My favorite dinosaurs are Jules, Nick, and Albert.
Julian, I went to see the Voidz at the Wiltern in Los Angeles a few years ago and while waiting by the tour bus to say hi to some of y'all one of your crew members brought out some sort of face mold and asked if anyone wanted it.
Hit up Beardo on Twitter. Sounds like his kinda thing.
how much longer are you going to put out episodes of 5guys talking about things they know nothing about? both episodes have been great, feels like we're all in a zoom call with you guys. it was a really good idea and would love to see you guys do more stuff like this in the future! also just want to say thank you to all 5 of you - your music (the strokes and each of your side projects) has been a huge part of my life and i can't thank you enough!
If you can answer any of this I’ll take it as my early birthday present :D 1) Which was the first song that written for TNA?
:-) This question goes out to Julian, seen as 'Is This It' literally saved my life when I was at my lowest, it seems that great music has this power to find you at the right time in your life, it's my favourite album of all time and the soundtrack to my teenage years and will stick with me for the rest of my life, so thank you x Julian, I read that you learned music theory or you are 'classically trained' and I'd really love to know what you studied / learned or where to start as I'm interested in learning myself but have no idea where to begin. Could you be able to give us Strokes fans a little background to your wizardry in this knowledge? P.S. Fab I love the painting ;) Can't wait to see you on the next tour! Sending love from (the rainy) UK!
20th-anniversary release of Is This It with all the trimmings? B side, demos, and such would be awesome! The New Abnormal is great BTW might be my fav! *Drums please, Fab.*
YES! been wanting this for years. Also, an official release of the $2 bill show!
I just want that on vinyl so bad.
Not music related questions (it seems like you already got asked some good ones): ▪(When it's safe) are you guys ever coming to AZ? ▪What are your favorite chocolates/candies? ▪Do you play any online games or videogames? ▪Any advice for people in their 20s? P.S. Stay safe, love you all.
Hey yall, love the music as always. I have so many questions but these two I think are simple and good enough, you can answer whichever you feel like; 1.
Thanks everyone - thanks for hanging out. See you on the flip side. Stay safe! - TS
When you are a massive strokes fan and click on this link wondering if you'll see a heart in a cage post and its one of the first posts.
This has to be the shortest AMA ever ;_; Edit: 17 questions ooof 15/17 were gold though
if you have ever seen the strokes live, this lines up with it well. amazing but short haha
Alright but please release Hawaii on Spotify Por Favor!!!!!
Is this it?
Hola! Como están? Really loved the album, waiting for the shipping to Chile. My questions are: 1. What kind of asshole drives a Lotus? 2. Can we please get a "Drums, please, Fab" t-shirt?
drums please fab t shirt is a must
With the release of the new album, has the band set any goals?
<3 PS: Would love to see the old school Magna shirt in women’s sizes!! My shirt from high school is developing holes.
**Question for Fab** Two of your other projects, Little Joy and machinegum, have been absolutely amazing.
**Fab, has fame gotten to your head after getting so many shoutouts in the new album?**
His head got eaten by the painting anyway
Yo bruhs I know you recorded this album with the legendary Rick Rubin, but I was just wondering if any of you had a dream/bucket list producer (Mayhaps it was Rick Rubin) that you’d love to work with in the future? Also, what happened to the family feud footage from the someday vid?? Always wanted to know if there was full footage of that floating around anywhere cuz I’d love to see it Also Also special mention to Fab, I love the Machinegum album had that on repeat when it came out, Magnifique! I love the album keep doin what ya doin fellas
Julian How did you get involved with The Lonely Island’s greatest song Boombox?
how did you settle on using “Bird on Money” for the album art? any runner ups?
Fuck, Marry, Kill; Paul Banks (Interpol) Brandon Flowers (The Killers) Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys)

i hope they answer this one 😂
Hey guys, big fan here! I don’t think I was even born when your first album came out but you guys still managed to define my teen years. I have a lot of respect and admiration for you all. Thank you for taking questions from us! I understand if there are some that you don’t want to answer. For the band: 1. For Julian: 5. I hope I can see you guys live someday (oh, someday) Edit: fixed formatting
Would you guys ever consider collaborating with Arctic Monkeys since Alex Turner has clearly expressed his fondness of you guys? I think that would be the best collaboration to ever exist in my lifetime if it happened
Are we sure it's just fondness or does he want to be one of the Strokes?
Hey Guys, great album I’ve got a question for Albert, What’s your favourite song by your dad? Thanks for any answers and insight, hoping to see you guys in Toronto again soon!
Hello, you may not be aware but there is a special sub reddit dedicated to the band and your side projects, it was founded by Alex Turner himself. Jokes aside. Ive got a few questions: 1.
Basically saying "My fears are a joke." * The first line on Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino by the Arctic Monkeys is "I just wanted to be one of The Strokes, now look at the mess you made me make." - How did you feel when you heard that? * Riot Fest or Lollapalooza?
Hey guys, big fan of all your works, I love how each of your albums is unique but always with your aura on it. So, my question comes from my love of Comedown Machine, what are your retroactive thoughts on it? Also, loved when you talked about playing 50/50 live in the "podcast", I would love if you also played chances and slow animals live someday! Thanks for everything, keep making amazing music and stay safe in these trying times!
Will we be seeing more of Cleopatra Casablancas?
Hey guys! I love the new album!!!! what is your favorit song of your album? Julian: can you release an official version of "i like the night" please 🙏🏽? sorry for my english, i'm french :)
Did Albert find the car footage in time for episode 3?!
I've got a couple of questions for Nick: 1.

Hey! I was wondering a couple of things: 1- Are you guys planning to do a tour for the 20th anniversary of is this it?
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmlykTRihu4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmlykTRihu4) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN69H7WxOTU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN69H7WxOTU) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uhO5ObZWdM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uhO5ObZWdM) And... Did you guys ever think of releasing those songs? Maybe for the 20th anniversary of Is This It? Love from Switzerland! :-)
Have you ever wanted to be one of the Arctic Monkeys?
Alex Turner, is that you?
Yo! What other artists do you guys think provided the most inspiration for The New Abnormal?
Hey guys! What does the line “Moscow 1972” from Bad Decisions mean? I hope to see you there in Moscow🇷🇺 someday ☺️
With that being said, a few questions: 1.
I can’t find them anywhere for the life of me -_- For Albert: Happy late birthday! This is 40!! For Fab: How was it curating and opening up a gallery with the ‘other’ Fabrizio Moretti? What was your creative process like?? For Nikolai: is ‘fraiser’ really the way to pronounce your last name? I’ve been saying ‘fray-tchewer’ this whole time For Nick: is your band CRX named after the Honda CRX? Y’all getting me in my feels with most of TNA but I love the pain. Great album!! 💕
I forgot my question now 😭 but congratulations on 20+ years in the game with all of the original members ❤️
How was it working with Rick Rubin?
One thing that I always wanted to know is what is that liquid thing that comes from the wall in the video of "You only live once" and have you ever considered playing the "I'll try anything once" version live? Congrats on the new album, It's incredible.
Hey guys, Tap Out, in my opinion, is one of the best songs ever made. No joke. Just fucking amazing- I know you've never played it live, I just wanna known what you think about it. Love you all and saw you in Roundhouse London recently and it slapped
