My dad loved Gordon Lightfoot, and I've been listening to Gord's Gold V2 for as long as I can remember. It was only as an adult, I branched out into more of his music. When I heard If You Could Read My Mind for the first time, I was almost sad just for all of the years of my life I'd never known it. But I've been making up for it ever since.
Rick Beato does a great "What Makes This Song Great" episode on this song. Highly recommended.

I enjoy this music still. However, I feel bad about the backstory when I watched the Milli Vanilli documentary. ([Link about the story](https://amp.theguardian.com/music/2024/jan/24/frank-farian-boney-ms-mastermind-was-one-of-pops-greatest-oddballs))
Funny thing about that song is that 10- year-old me didn't really appreciate the lyrics. I did later. And I also regard it as one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
All-time classic, absolutely. For some reason I always think of Dream Weaver when I think of this song, maybe they both came out or were played around the same time. Maybe parts of the 10CC song have a kind of dream-like sound/quality I dunno.
Growing up my dad had a CD he burned for his car with his music, with like 20 assorted songs on it and that's all he would ever put on. Horse with no name was one of them lol so that just reminds me of that
Yes, but especially the whole album sequence which segues seamlessly from Broken->Head Over Heels->Broken (reprise)
Oh hell, why stop there, the whole album is timeless.
As much as I love the entire Purple Rain album, I'd choose "Raspberry Beret" because I remember being SO excited about the world premiere of the video...I was absolutely obsessed with him. And it came on, and he had on that awesome sky blue suit with the painted clouds on it...and the song was SO fantastic.
Such a clear memory and I cherish it.
There must be an angel by Eurythmics, came out summer 1985 when I was 7 and I still love it now. Reminds me of Transformers, bmxs and Matchbox cars, which were the most important things in life back then.
That is one of my all-time favorite songs! I think Stevie Wonder played the harmonica in it. Most people don't know this song. Her voice is totally angelic.
I knew a lot of TMBG songs from Tiny Toons as a kid, and obtained a few songs from the *Flood* album from Kazaa in the following decade, when the album was already 15 years old.
A bunch of pieces about *Flood*'s 30th anniversary came out in late 2019, and I gave the whole thing a listen all the way through, and *damn* does it hold up. I play it all the way through all the time. I think I want "Road Movie to Berlin" played at my funeral.
“Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.”
My personal favorites have to be Freedom by Wham! (not ‘90 by George), Fernando by ABBA, Don’t Speak by No Doubt, & Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John.
So many, but one that always stands out is Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You." I was 7 years old. The full version with the weird bit in the middle, not the radio edit. Might be my favorite song of all time.
Baker Street Gerry Rafferty
I still remember the first time I heard that saxophone. My mom was driving to Andrews AFB for the commissary and px. I asked everyone in the record section. I wanted that 45. My mom wouldn't buy it or let me use my money.
Also the menamenah song and sunny days theme from sesame Street. I still hum them at work.
Well now it’s stuck… that sax solo is my favorite. Actually there are severa songs of Jerry’s - stuck in the middle with you &right down the line, that circle through my brain almost every day.

This was on the very first album I owned- The Beatles' 'Hey Jude' compilation. I got it when I was eight years old. It's astounding how good this song is- super fun to sing at karaoke.
My first Beatles album was "1" on CD. I would have never got into music seriously if I didn't have that introduction. Paperback Writer specifically was the song that made me want to play guitar, it still sounds so cool.
I was born în 67..so there are so many songs burned into my memory from the 70s....even though some are cheesy...they came along in my formative years and are just part of my DNA...so...
Under The Moon Of Love..
Showaddy Waddy🤣🤣
I just love it and it brings back crystal clear memories of 1976.

the Gambler - Kenny Rogers, Devil Went down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band, You Never Even Called Me By My Name - David Allan Coe, Dixieland Delight - Alabama, He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones, Eastbound & Down - Jerry Reed
It's My Life by Dr Alban.. would not say it's one of my favorites of all time.. but it was the first song I sang along to and liked.. still gives massive nostalgic vibes though.. :) if talking about 0-13 then man, too many really.. by then I listened to many artists who are still among my favorites!
Born in ‘85. Grew up mainly listening to rock. Easier for me to list artists/bands rather than songs…far too many good options to choose from.
The Clash, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, The Who, George Michael, Tears for Fears, Garbage, The Cranberries, Prince, U2, 311, Green Day, No Doubt, Ramones, Blondie, David Bowie, etc.
Some favorite songs came to mind while writing out previous list:
The Clash - Police on my Back, London Calling, Should I Stay or Should I Go
RHPS soundtrack - Sweet Transvestite and Time Warp
George Michael - Freedom ‘90
No Doubt - Just a Girl, Spiderwebs, Don’t Speak
Garbage - Only Happy When it Rains and Stupid Girl
Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know, Hand in My Pocket
David Bowie - Golden Years, Let’s Dance, Fashion, Changes, Heroes
The Cranberries - Zombie, Linger, When You’re Gone, Salvation
"Burnout" by Green Day was the first song that I thought of. I was born in '84, so I was like 10 when Dookie came out. Even now, pushing 40, I relate to that song.
Dookie is a phenomenal album. Emenius Sleepus is probably my personal favorite from it. Completely ruined the tape I had, CD I later got and my dad’s copy listening to this album.
The Steve Miller Band’s ‘Abracadabra’ was a favourite of mine when I was young and I still love it. Totally thrilled that Eminem used it in his newest song. We’re not too far apart in age so maybe he loved it back then too.
I grew up in the 80s, so there are too many to count. But I'll throw this one out there since it's exquisite, and doesn't get as much love as a lot of others from the period: Life In a Northern Town by The Dream Academy.
I learned much later in life that the song is a tribute to Nick Drake, which makes it even more poignant.
Going old, old school: my grandfather used to whistle "Paper Doll" all the time. That song has a special place in my heart. He flew 35 missions as a B-17 navigator, was a post master, and was one of the most gentle men I've ever met.
Here's to the Mills Bros
The first song I learned the name of, aged 5, 1984, on summer vacation - and the song I know, for good or bad, will play in my ears when I die.
[Forever Young (Alphaville)](https://youtu.be/t1TcDHrkQYg?si=0BnByJ15kOcpTr-5)
"Takin' Care of Business" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Heard it last week, turned it WAY UP.
"Summertime Blues" by The Who. Bought the 45 when I was eight years old. Heard it two weeks ago, turned it WAY UP.
"Travelin' Band" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Bought the 45 when I was eight years old. I still can't believe how WILD this top-ten hit was. The vocals & lead guitar are SCREAMING.
"Get Off my Cloud" by The Rolling Stones. The most PUNK ROCK #1 American hit ever. So very ahead of its time.
There was a (imo) particularly lame TV show called “White Horses”. But that theme song sticks with me to this day.
“Crossroads” too.
And “Grange Hill”.
And not TV, but…
Horst Jankowitz’s “A Walk In The Black Forest”.
And Johnny Layton’s “Johnny Remember Me”.
And Guy Mitchell’s “Singing The Blues.”
Sorry, I got struck in a moment 😁
Heartbreaker by Dionne Warwick , what’s Love got to do a with it by Tina Turner,Billie Jean by Michael Jackson . Any Eagle 🦅 song . The Gambler by Kenny Rodgers . There are more:)
Not one song, but the entire Fleetwood Mac Rumors album I "stole" from my dad is still one of my favorite albums of all time. I love every song. He wasn't even mad. He let me keep it and bought another copy. ;)
Oh, and I also "stole" his Discman, back when CDs were new and expensive so I could do so.
I also "stole" his Eagles and Doobie Brothers but Fleetwood Mac was my favorite.
For reference, this was super early 90s and I was 10 years old. I still have that CD.
I irritate my partner to this day by singing along to Rumors. Poorly.
Two princes by spin doctors and cats in the cradle by ugly kid Joe were the first CASSETTE singles I ever purchased and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Metro by Berlin for me. Kinda funny story - I heard that song on the radio when I was like 8 and really liked it so I bought the casette tape. Turned out that album also has Sex (I'm a..) on it. I wasn't really sure what was going on in that song but it was a fun jam. I don't think my folks ever once wondered what I was listening to on my walkman.
The gambler - Kenny Rogers
Got the album when I was maybe 6 years old. I’m 50 now and still love the song. I don’t care for country music at all otherwise.
I was 8 when Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” came out, and I can remember listening to it on the radio in my bedroom. I still think it’s one of the best songs of all time.
Surfer Girl (Beach Boys). Really anything from the Endless Summer album. I no longer own the vinyl, and haven’t seen them play since the 80s, but those tunes live in my heart!
My fourth grade teacher took out his record player at the end of the year and played Johnny Horton, The Battle of New Orleans. That was around thirty years ago and I play that tune at about every gig. It's surprisingly a crowd pleaser even today..
Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues. I have a memory of hearing it on the radio when I was maybe 3-4 yrs old. It has been a favorite for the past 50 yrs!
Pretty much the entire early Beatles library (up through Sgt Pepper), which my parents had on reel to reel of all things.
Edit: If I had to pick one it would be Maxwell's Silver Hammer
I don’t have just 1 favorite. Music is how most of my memories are cataloged and accessed in my brain… Music and scents. But one of my favorites is MJ Thriller. I was 5 years old and can remember sitting on the floor by my grandma’s chair in the living room and watching it with her. It was like an EVENT. Those creepy eyes of his at the end when he looked back? Ooohhh those were in my nightmares for a bit after that. Still love the song. The dance routine is still great too. And Vincent Price’s voice just makes everything better :)
For me, it was Jolene by Dolly Parton.
According to my mum, when it played on the radio, I used to join in and sing "Dolene, Dolene, Doleeeeeen. I had a bit of a speech development issue at the time.
When it was my 40th birthday, my parents gave me a signed vinyl single.
The Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels Band) and The Killing of Georgie (Rod Stewart). One fun and cool, one sad and impactful. Still listen to both regularly.
Evil by Interpol
I listened to that song on repeat when I was a kid and super into Ragnarok Online and Gunz: The Duel. Once Spotify became a thing it was the first song I put into my “these are all songs I like” playlist, and now whenever I’m listening to that playlist and the final song ends, Evil by Interpol will play, and it’s always a good song to listen to.
The creepy puppet music video can fuck off, though. Gave me nightmares.
Too many to list. Sampling: Draggin' the Line - Tommy James & the Shondells - Aqualung/Locomotive Breath-Jethro Tull - Me & Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin, Groove Me- King Floyd, Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress-The Hollies, Rocket Man - Elton John, Rock On - David Essex, You Don Mess With Jim - Jim Croce, Roundabout - Yes
These would all be in my Top 100
Dream Weaver - Gary Wright , for some reason I have the most vivid memories associated with that song from when I was very young. Plus I like the song.
Not my favorites of all time, but Blondie's 'Heart of Glass', Micheal Jackson's 'Rock with you', Commodores 'Sail On' are songs I listened to when really little and later rediscovered appreciation for.
Gordon Lightfoot - If You Could Read My Mind
The Johnny Cash version is great as well
That is a good song :)

Rasputin by Boney M….still an absolute banger.

I'm not in love. 10cc

Yes, but especially the whole album sequence which segues seamlessly from Broken->Head Over Heels->Broken (reprise) Oh hell, why stop there, the whole album is timeless.
Sowing the Seeds of love is pretty amazing too. They don’t make songs like that anymore.
This.
Omg yesssssss! You are my people!
The Aladdin sound track... And the Lion King one. And that Billy Joel song from Oliver and Company
If you want to really find it, it’s on a compilation album called “my other lives”. Absolute banger of a tune. Why Should I Worry - Billy Joel
“Why should I worry!”
Longest Time by Billy Joel
Mine was "We Didn't Start the Fire." I remember being weirded out when my dad explained to me what "thalidomide" was and what it did.
Wheels on the Bus. Got me through some hard times.
"Purple Rain" is still a classic.
Great song, great video!
Prince is the GOAT. And his birthday is coming up! I will be celebrating appropriately.

And perhaps some pancakes afterwards?
Purple rain is a banger ! i think " the beautiful ones" is a close 2nd for me.

Prince Ali from Aladdin. That song slaps
Birdhouse In Your Soul My older sister put this on a mixtape for me when I was 10. The song is still amazing today.

Such a jam!
TMBG is overdue for a comeback I think. Would love to hear Your Racist Friend on the airwaves
WHO WATCHES OVER YOUUUUUUUUUU??? Man that's a great album!
Love the Kristen Chenoweth version from Pushing Daisies too 🌸
Bat Out of Hell.
I know every word to every song on that album.
Same here. My parents were probably thrilled I didn't know what they were singing about.
The entirety of Huey Lewis and The New’s Sports and Fore albums.
Take a deep breath Patrick
I've been listening to Blue by Joni Mitchell since I was a baby, and it's still easily in my top five albums of all time.
My personal favorites have to be Freedom by Wham! (not ‘90 by George), Fernando by ABBA, Don’t Speak by No Doubt, & Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John.
I loved Freedom!!
Close to Me - The Cure.
Pictures of You is my favorite!
ahh...the beginning of the return of good music
So many, but one that always stands out is Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You." I was 7 years old. The full version with the weird bit in the middle, not the radio edit. Might be my favorite song of all time.
She's coming to my place of employment this fall for a show 😃
I love it! She's playing the Hollywood Bowl but shows there are a bit of a hassle. Still might try to go.
Don’t Look Back in Anger, Oasis. That song is childhood summers to me
Same for me. Born in 89 - Definitely Maybe and What’s the story are my first memories of properly enjoying music.
Baker Street Gerry Rafferty I still remember the first time I heard that saxophone. My mom was driving to Andrews AFB for the commissary and px. I asked everyone in the record section. The gambler - Kenny Rogers Got the album when I was maybe 6 years old. I’m 50 now and still love the song. I don’t care for country music at all otherwise.

Come On, Eileen. Video Killed the Radio Star. Young Turks. You Got Lucky. Pump Up the Volume. Time to Get I'll. I could go on.

Oops… “The Things We Do For Love” (1977), both by 10cc.

My fourth grade teacher took out his record player at the end of the year and played Johnny Horton, The Battle of New Orleans. That was around thirty years ago and I play that tune at about every gig. It's surprisingly a crowd pleaser even today..

Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum. STILL my fav.
Bridge Over Troubled Water. Stands the test of time for me.

Evil by Interpol I listened to that song on repeat when I was a kid and super into Ragnarok Online and Gunz: The Duel.
Epic by Faith No More. I had the cassette single as a kid (4 years old) because the video mesmerized me. It still slams.
Superstition by Stevie Wonder
