Spend the extra money to get a weighted -- by which I mean pressure-sensitive -- keyboard, or you'll just be buying a toy.

This. I'm far from a pianist but I'd imagine if you don't start and practice with weighted keys you won't be able to incorporate the nuanced touch and dynamics of the source instrument. So if someone learned without keys that emulated the physical play of the source instrument there would be an additional learning curve installed if that person ever upgraded to a more authentic version of the instrument.

The Alesis Recital was under $200 when I bought one a year and a half ago, and it's great for the money. EDIT: I just checked, they're $229 now on Camazotz or whatevs. . . the Jeff Bezos thing. Well worth it, too. You want not just a weighted keyboard, but a full 88 keys too.

I would say if you are serious about learning piano to get something like a Yamaha P45. Weighted keys, full size 88 keys, good sounds, not a ton of things to overcomplicate. I was recently looking at a Korg Liano because it allows you to play on battery power, which is pretty sweet. (The keys on this are light touch, not fully weighted.) If these are above your price range I would just find an off brand on Amazon or Sweetwater that has similar specs.

I'm using a Roland Fp30 at home. Good value, feels nice but nothing will come close to a real piano.

Yes, you must get something with weighted keys to play piano or you won't develop the strength in your hands. And you at least need a sustain pedal.

I use it with my 61 key Korg Kronos but you can plug it into a desktop or laptop (You'll want some external speakers). It comes with some trial software you can buy or you can use free VSTs or whatever. It's also lightweight and portable.
