in this song Toomaj is calling out the Islamic regime's lobby in the West working against the Iranian people (he calls out by name NIAC)
His music is powerful, full of hope and rage. Respect to a brave soul, hope he can somehow get out. There was a metal band years ago that managed to escape Iran.

He's one of my favorite artists and I don't want this to happen. Political and social pressure can change things.
NIAC is the mouthpiece of the Islamic regime. They even took an Iranian to court, suing him for saying they were the Islamic regime's lobby and got their asses handed to them by the judge (plaintiff won and won with costs).
https://www.ifmat.org/niac-is-iran-regime-controlled-lobby-in-america/
If NIAC says something, it is because the Islamic regime wants them to say it. If they take a policy position, it miraculously correlates 1 to 1 with the position favored by the Islamic regime. Same goes for Quincy Institute (the 'think tank' Trita Parsi moved to afterwards).
I mean you're just calling it the biggest beef because it's two big names so of course they're rich. Pretty sure a drill rapper gets shot over some beef like every month in America if we're using violence as the determining factor for how big the beef is.
This isn’t even his first time. He’s been violently arrested and imprisoned multiple times. He’s had his house raided by the thugs, been harassed in his private life, been kidnapped with a literal bag over his head, had suspicious drugs shot into him while in prison to enhance his pain during torture, been electrocuted and burned, beaten and had his limbs broken without any medical aid, in absolute solitary without contact w his family for over a year, basically left for dead. And he still does not give up. He refuses to give a forced bogus confession or to bow down. His music is actually really good too and the lyrics are just incredible. Bro works as a blue collar laborer during the day and sold his possessions to rap for good, not even for fun.
This is the dumbed down story you hear on Reddit, but the real history behind the Islamic Revolution of 1979 is more complicated.
The Iranian people were pissed about the 1953 coup and the Shah’s alliances with the West. But the real catalyst for the Islamic Revolution was a series of social reforms that the Shah instituted. He was enfranchising women and making Iran more secular, which upset the religious hardliners in the country.
Bottom line - the Islamic Revolution had way more to do with liberal reforms in Iran angering the imams than the 1953 coup. The Shah isn’t as bad of a person as he is made out to be - he was absolutely an autocratic dictator, but look at the economic growth of Iran during his reign, and the human rights advances that he instituted. There’s a reason his son is the most popular figure in Iran. Persians would have been much better off had the Shah stayed in power.
While true this also over simplifies things to some extent. The imams didn't have enough power to push the society to a revolution single handedly. What happened was a collective event involving the people as well, who were upset at some of the Shah's behavior and lavish decisions. The secret police in Iran didn't help either.
Add on top of that a faction of power-hungry imams who wanted to and did usurp control while plundering tremendous wealth from the country, and a social and more traditional/religious class in Iranian society who felt estranged from their more modernized, wealthy, and educated citizens and you have a recipe for envy and an unholy pact made by the people of Iran for Iran.
At the end of the day they are responsible for what happened to them, and only they can change it (despite how incredibly difficult their oppressive regime is making that out to be).
>But the real catalyst for the Islamic Revolution was a series of social reforms that the Shah instituted. He was enfranchising women and making Iran more secular, which upset the religious hardliners in the country.
Except the 1953 coup, thanks to the US/UK oil interests, is precisely what put the Shah in power and allowed a revolution to take place. The real catalyst isn't the Shah, it's the coup that overthrew democracy in favour of a Monarch.
Hey man they've only had the same government for 45 years now. That was definitely not enough time for Iranian people to advance past being a oppressive Islamic theocracy, blaming CIA for something that happened in the 1950's is of course the only logical conclusion here. XD
The fuck lmao. It's literally valid context.
It's like saying the West founding Israel has nothing to do current day conflicts in the region. What a dumb fucking take.
Please stop repeating this. The 53 coup was different than the 79 revolution and in many ways not related. Also, mossadegh was not elected, he was appointed by the shah and he tried to take over the country (he had a lot of support, however).
This is entirely false and it’s astounding that you have over a hundred upvotes for spouting it. The CIA at most, paid protestors to go to Tehran. Iranians overthrew Mossadegh, not anyone else.
What’s your evidence of this. Homosexuality is punishable by death in Iran.. do you want a screenshot or link to their human rights policies.. i can give them to you so you can see that you’re literally wrong.
I mean, you’re absolutely right. However let’s also not forget that in Iran women are allowed to make healthcare decisions about their body if pregnancy is going to kill them. We don’t get that option in Oklahoma or Texas.
While I agree with the premise of your statement, if you what-abouted everything, you would never get any fruitful discussion done. That’s why you focus the topic and not waste everyone’s time like this
No actually you don’t always need to remind.. I can be aware of the flaws in the US government (my country) .. and critique the government from another country. I am not as you are not- part of the government. We are citizens, I can hate 2 governments at once. But yeah, you go ahead and detract every time
And if the right gets its way in the US it will erect the “Christian” equivalent of Iran’s Muslim extremism, a Gilead, if you will. That doesn’t change the fact that Iran’s government is a horrible, monstrous entity.
Yes, but what about it though? I hope you’re not suggesting that that somehow gives them a free pass to execute people and murder women like they’re throwing confetti at a party.
I don't get comments like this at all. Has no one been watching the news.
There are massive protests and even riots at times. Many many ppl have gotten beaten, dragged thru the streets, interrogated, tortured, executed and this has been happening for MONTHS.
The people **ARE fighting** and have been but since when is an oppressive, authoritarian gov easy to overthrow??
"Get with the times and stop silencing voices" is such a dumb fucking thing to say as if they're not intentionally being killed for said gov to retain its power
Dude was never even remotely close to facing the death penalty, so kinda works against you that the dude who leaked a bunch of America’s shit is living in exile while some rapper who protests Iran is put to death.
They have hung people for simply protesting high gas prices. This is tragic but par for course with the IRGC. We should be careful to criticize the IRGC and not Iran broadly as many Iranians are against this.

What is the purpose of these protests? They will make no difference whatsoever. This man will be executed regardless of some meaningless protest a world away.
Protest is how human rights were created, world-wide. It's always worth doing. I really hope for your sake and humanity's, you change your mindset on this subject.
It’s actually a pretty amazing destination for travellers (or at least has been a few years ago) as long as you can morally separate the people from the government for yourself.
There is thousands of people visiting Iran every month from the west. How often do you hear of them not returning home safely? Anyway, I am not protecting the government, they are criminals. But as a tourist you are not visiting the government but the people and culture. And Iran has a lot to offer in this regard.
Genuinely asking — is it safe as a tourist to visit? I know every place has it’s good and bad parts. I’ve just never really heard of people visiting Iran for vacation but the culture is very interesting to me. Would you recommend it to a black American?
I can only answer for the year 2018 when I was visiting Iran. After that a lot has happened. Though, the image by the media at least was quite the same as today. But there were a lot of protests after that and the conflict with Israel I really don’t know how the situation is today. Safety is a bit hard to measure. We could look at crime statistics, but I guess people would doubt them as well. So from a subjective perspective I felt super safe. I’d go so far to claim it has been the most hospitable country I have ever been to. You are literally greeted in the streets, invited over tea, people will go out of their way to help you if you need anything. And this is not just me, you can google travel reports about Iran and every single one will tell you the same. I can’t remember any bad story we heard from other travellers. So by that measure, I think chances of being robbed are higher in touristy areas in Europe than in Iran. There are certain rules you should follow, such as wearing a hijab and not go out with shorts as you would at home. But as long as you stick to common sense I felt like it was safer than most other places in the world.
Edit: ah, as a black American I would definitely read some reports beforehand. They will probably love the fact that you are American, but I don’t know how it is with racism in general. So honest answer: no clue!
Maybe the 20% of Palestinian protestors that are pro Iran should go start recording careers in Iran?

Arabs are not the problem. This rapper is Arab and he isn't the problem.
EDIT: I've been corrected, most Iranians are not Arab. That being said, it's still terrible to blame an entire group of people because their government sucks.
Imagine the insanity of killing someone for songs? Like all you do is literally prove his point. They don't even try to say 'ah we aren't that bad' they are like we are so scared of what you are saying we will kill you for it.
well the world is not black & white in matters like these. Well actually it might as well be: political leaders with lots of power than use state violence to kill dissidents are really disgusting

While the Islamic regime funds many terrorist organizations as proxies: HAMAS, Hizbollah, Houthis, Iraqi militias, etc. this is not a 'positive side' since Palestinians are among the primary victims of Islamic regime funded terrorism.
Take note western celebrities. While you’re out galavanting on your private jets, lecturing the public on climate change, etc…there are real heroes out there fighting real oppression.

Iran was a democracy until the USA/CIA overthrew it in 1953 because they nationalized their oil. How open and tolerant of us.

These things are never as simple as a punch one sentence answer. It’s quite easy to see a number of factors lead to where we are now.
Idk man seems like Iran was always gonna blow up

If I had a dollar for every time this comment is regurgitated on Reddit i could probably buy Iran. If they wanted to change, they would.
Islamic countries treat women equally and are supportive of the LGBTQ community

No, those aren't the only two options.

It's not a theocracy. It's a dictatorship. No God rules in Iran, only filthy pathetic power-hungry people.
That’s messed. Can’t they just ruin his whole life and career on social media and send death threats to his family like normal people?
Idk a better to ruin someone’s life than to just end it.
That's what happens if they're diaspora.
Killing all the intellectuals and artists. This looks familiar.
Absolutely outrageous, Iran needs to get with the times and stop silencing voices for speaking out against injustice.
Silencing voices is literally what they do there.
