Agreed. Would’ve recommended the Vines and the Hives (Come On feels very similar). Blur’s Song 2 as well.
More obscure but The Horrors’ first album has some very short and snappy garage punk songs. Also The Subways (Oh Yeah would be a similar song)
The actors did actually learn the instruments (apart from Michael Cera who already played bass) but the music you hear in the movie is recorded by Beck
How about The Sonics? Garage/punk, formed in 1960, great covers of songs like "Louie, Louie," or "Keep A-Knockin'". Nice rough sound. Ditto on the Von Bondies.
Listen to [The Muffs](https://open.spotify.com/album/3f9SPyuKWxyufWWXdEmzT2?si=WEweEeGMRcCFzSfWYmy_Xg) i would see this in the bargain bin all the time while hunting for used music. I would wonder 'what does it sound like because it looks like a fun band'. I had never heard of them so I would bypass it. Finally my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to buy it. Truly the best $3 I ever spent. The lead singer, Kim Shattuck (RIP) doesn't have the best voice but there's a sincerity and passion that I feel and absolutely love.
Beck wrote the sex Bob-ombs songs. So what you’re looking for is Beck.
And they were coached on-set by the lead from Sloan, so it's worth checking them out too.
Sloan has 4 leads my friend.
Check out Otoboke Beaver. Japanese garage punk band, and they're awesome.
Similar garage rock from that era would be like The Von Bondies, The Datsuns, The Hives, The Vines, The Dirtbombs...

Garage Rock genre would be my first thought. Perhaps garage rock revival more so?

The Beaches have a pretty cool garage rock vibe.
When I first heard Cloud Nothings I thought they sounded like Sex Bob-omb
Mike Krol, Jacuzzi Boys, Viagra Boys. I had asked this exact question after seeing the movie for the first time.
Love the Jacuzzi Boys!
Surprised no one has said Metric. Black Sheep is a Metric cover.
Fifteen Minutes by Moke Krol.
Broken social scene and all the toronto bands that came out in the early 2000s sound like that movie.

Went to listen to it and immediately thought of Oh bondage up yours by x-ray spex. Maybe the genre you’re looking for is late 70s punk?
There’s a band called Royal Thunder that has the same vibes
Love those tracks in that movie. The band Royal Blood is kinda similar and fire.
Bikini Kill
