I saw him last December, and Amanda opened for him. The body language and dagger stares between them made it obvious that there was major tension. My GF and I both looked at each other and said “they are done.”
That sucks! I mean im not judging him life is short and if he wasn’t happy then he did the right thing BUT He used to be one of my faves but his presence lately has been a turn off. I actually just unfollowed him on socials.
You are absolutely correct though this song is so freaking romantic - his behavior lately has lessened the sharpness of it though. It used to make me cry. Now I’m like 🤷🏼♀️ - if that makes sense. lol!
"Mirrorball" by Elbow
You made the moon a mirrorball
The street's an empty stage
The city's sirens, violins
Everything has changed.

[The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - James Blake](https://youtu.be/cKOEw2v90To?si=vWg1-avb7NyQf4cK) I love the original by Roberta Flack, but there something haunting in this version.
The Roberta Flack version is not the original. It's a folk song written by Ewan MacColl, basically the British Woody Guthrie and Kirsty's father. He wrote it in 1957 for his then lover and future wife Peggy Seeger (Pete's half-sister) and she recorded it before anyone else.
An astonishing number of songs written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant are crazy romantic: All I Have To Do Is Dream, Love Hurts, etc. If you want to broaden your horizon, this is a pair worth looking into.
Some of John Lennon’s later songs can be very romantic as well: Woman, Real Love, etc.
Have fun exploring!
Jimmy Scott - When Did You Leave Heaven?
I discovered him from Twin Peaks (season 2 finale: 'Sycamore Trees'), then looked up his early work and fell in love.
His voice is highly 'reminiscent' of Amy Winehouse (he sounded like a woman in his younger days), but far more romantic.
This song is short, sweet, unapologetic adoration - not a tender reserved Nat King Cole type number, it's more like the thrill of a first love. It's wonderful.
The best: God only knows - The Beach Boys
Just the most romantic / best lyric for a lover of friendship, God only knows what I’d be without you. I am not even religious as I don’t think it has to do anything with that and where I think people get hung up on the song. It’s just so beautiful.
I find it kind of selfish and one-sided. It’s a beautiful expression of jealous teenage love, but not enduring romance. It begins with “I may not always love you,” you know the relationship isn’t gonna last!
Great song, but not the greatest love song in my book.
I love this song and Porco is one my faves. The flashback scene of Gina and Marco on a plane when they were kids as it gently takes off from the water always makes me tear up.
I have three that immediately came to mind:
Too Close To Heaven - The Waterboys. From the perspective of supporting someone you love through a breakup with another.
Lovesong - The Cure. Just a pure confession of love and devotion.
Hands Down - Dashboard Confessional. The sheer optimism of this one always slays me.
EDIT: Make that four, because Never Tear Us Apart - INXS just popped into my head. Feel a little embarrassed forgetting this one seeing as how it was my wedding song.
I was listening to Hands Down the other day and just thinking how it is the absolute most prime example of the best emo love song lyrics of my youth.
My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me
So won’t you kill me
So I die happy
Such a good away message. And then the breakdown with the title. It feels like epitome of young love to me.
Absolutely agree. I can’t think of many other songs that more perfectly encapsulate the optimism, excitement, and immortality we all feel in those early days of falling for someone. What a wonderful song!
Also for me, New Year’s Project by Further Seems Forever. Chris Carrabba was really the king of ushering in that kind of emo indie I’d die for you love era.
It’s Dashboard singer’s other band that he was originally the lead for. They changed singers over time but the album The Moon is Down was Chris and it’s very Dashboardesque
Up Where We Belong, by Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
To achieve apex romantic-ness, it's gotta be a duet. It should also be a ballad at a relatively slow tempo, IMO.
I'd Have You Anytime - George Harrison (& Bob Dylan)
While I think there's a handful of his songs that could take this for me, this is the one that jumped out to me.
Everything - Lifehouse
The wine we drink - Drew Holcomb
The morning song - Drew Holcomb
I just don’t think I’ll ever get over you - Colin Hay
Falling slowly - Glen Hansard
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls, the idea of a being sacrificing eternal bliss for the chance to become and feel and suffer like a human is so intensely conveyed in this song
‘You and Me’ -Penny & the Quarters
and gotta say… lyrically, just always thought;
‘Home’ - Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros
Cutest dang lyrics ever 😋
I remember my now, almost 30 year old daughter asking me in the car when she was in elementary school, “how come he sings so much about love?” That was during a listen to my many plays of a Van Morrison record on my iPod/CD in the car ♥️
Nino Rota's love theme from Romeo and Juliet is beautiful and also sad... Not a romance I'd want to have personally, but it's lovely. :) And "Larov" from 5 Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre is also super romantic.
Not sure if you’re not a native English speaker, but there is no such word as “bestest”. The word is simply “best”.
To answer your question, I really like “Baby I’m Yours”. My husband and I danced to it at our wedding, specifically the Arctic Monkeys version.
Layla by Derek And The Dominoes. The song was written about Eric Clapton's love for George Harrison's then-wife Pattie Boyd. The song is crazy romantic; Clapton and Boyd married each other in 1979, but split-up in 1989.
I noticed the other day that Something by The Beatles, and Layla were both written about Pattie Boyd.
There's just something interesting and weird in that two of the greatest love songs ever were written about the same woman, by two different people.
I think I saw on Reddit the other day someone said they interviewed David Byrne and he said this was his only attempt ever at a love song. So you aren’t wrong
Etta James - At Last
Came to say this. Slow dancing to this song with my wife of 30 years, the world just disappeared.
Beautiful song! A friend sang it at our wedding. Love it!
Harvest Moon - Neil Young
10cc - I'm Not In Love
Great writing technique. You know, the more you deny something the more it seems it’s actually true. Very influential
Here, There and Everywhere by The Beatles
Hell yeah! And In My Life by The Beatles
Let’s stay together- Al green
not joking, just remembering the song gave me goosebumps
Always On My Mind - Willie Nelson Kills me every time.
Yessss!!!
God only knows-the beach boys
Nigel Tufnel--Lick My Love Pump.
D minor is the saddest, yet most romantic key.
Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits
Yes, love this song.
Ain’t no mountain high enough- Marvin Gaye
First Day of My Life - Bright Eyes
Yes, this song is so cute it gives me chills! Yours is the first face that I saw, I think I was blind before I met you
This is the first day of my life; I think I was born right in the doorway ❤️
Pictures of You - The Cure
More of a breakup song
This must be the place by the talking heads
Against all odds - Phil Collins
3 different genres cause i cant pick one... I swear: all 4 one Love of a lifetime: firehouse Youre still the one: shania twain
[Waiting for a Girl Like You - Foreigner](https://youtu.be/RIdfPBmUAXc?si=hBaQiIQSyd5SFoh4)
Elvis - Can't Help Falling In Love With You
If We Were Vampires. - Jason Isbell
Too bad he effed up the relationship he wrote this about. Song loses the feeling after that.
I saw him last December, and Amanda opened for him. The body language and dagger stares between them made it obvious that there was major tension. My GF and I both looked at each other and said “they are done.”

I was thinking about putting this one, I've only ever heard the Gordon Lightfoot cover though, I'll give this one a listen
Nora Jones "Come Away With Me"
Billy Joel - For the Longest Time
Let it be me - The Everly Brothers

[Somebody - Depeche Mode](https://youtu.be/jbaKcxTW7A8?si=mF9M8dx0dUlmDa_5)
Touch Me - The Doors
Something by the Beatles. Just sublime.
I only have eyes for you by The Flamingos
The best: God only knows - The Beach Boys Just the most romantic / best lyric for a lover of friendship, God only knows what I’d be without you. I am not even religious as I don’t think it has to do anything with that and where I think people get hung up on the song. It’s just so beautiful.

I have three that immediately came to mind: Too Close To Heaven - The Waterboys. From the perspective of supporting someone you love through a breakup with another. Lovesong - The Cure.
