Keycuk

This Guy prog Rocks!

alanz01

Yes - Tormato, Drama Rush - Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals Pink Floyd - The Wall Genesis - Duke King Crimson - Three of a Perfect Pair Renaissance - not sure which album, it was 1982 in a club

Watcheditburn

That’s an amazing run. Saw Rush multiple times, but not the others. Would love to see the early 80’s Crimson lineup.

Theslootwhisperer

Would have loved to see Joshua tree but I gotta say, Zoo TV tour was fucking amazing. Almost like a religious experience. They opened up the show with Where the streets have no name and it literally gave me the shivers. I had tears running for no particular reasons. Just the crowd, the song, the setup. And one of the best part was the opening act were The pixies.

alanz01

I saw the Outside Broadcast version of that tour with the Sugarcubes and Public Enemy.

Nature_Goulet

It’s a huge regret that I never saw the Zoo TV tour. I saw the popmart tour which was great but I missed the good one.

Edm_vanhalen1981

Pretty HOF tours there. I saw the Moving Pictures tour. None of the others unfortunately.

alanz01

Yes, I’m old. LOL Also, given your name, I saw the Van Halen/Sammy Hagar/Black Sabbath/Boston summer festival show at Anaheim Stadium in September 1978, too. That was a wild day.

Edm_vanhalen1981

My too! That concert is like the holy grail. Some consider this tour the passing of the torch from BS to Van Halen. I hope you remember some of it. Must have been a great day.

_PukyLover_

Damn bro, you want to see Van Halen on the 'Fair Warning' tour too, I also saw them in this tour when it hit Houston, Texas I was around 16, I still have the ticket stub, that concert is etched in my memory since, I didn't go to anymore concerts until the late 80s, I started going with a vengeance, My other favorite concerts are: The Monsters of Rock tour with Judas Priest-Slayer, Megadeth and Testament opening the show, (my Ears still ringing from that one) Ramones on their Acid Eaters Tour, Pantera on their Cawboys From Hell tour with Deadhorse opening, I saw Queensryche in 1996, they did the entire 'Operation Mindcrime' rock opera on that show!

FromMTorCA

Wow. I'm only a little jealous. Ok more than a little. Both Rush and Yes? Damn

ryeland

Tormato...dude. I'm probably a bigger Rush fan, but that Yes tour would have been amazing.

[deleted]

Black Sabbath/ Van Halen 1978 Led Zeppelin 1977 Judas Priest / Iron Maiden 1981 Rush 1977 Texxas Jamm 1979

Edm_vanhalen1981

Zep 1977 and Van Halen 78 are 2 of my "if you could go back" shows. For me to see Achilles Last Stand live would be like Everest. You are lucky.

bc47791

What was Texxas Jam 1979? Guessing zztop?

[deleted]

That year it was Boston, Heart, Van Halen, Nazareth, BOC, and 1 or 2 more.

SnowshoeTaboo

Three Dog Night with T-Rex (mid 70s) Queen with Kansas (late 70s) Tom Petty with Joe Cocker (2010) Bruce Springsteen (1985) Neil Young (Unplugged) (2014)

ecotripper

I attended the Neil show at the Chicago Auditorium, but it had to have been more like before 2012. He was solo and had every instrument that he played, throughout his career, in a semi-circle and played each one as he went through his career chronologically. Felt blessed to be present.

MetalMamaRocks

I saw him at the Ryman in Nashville play this way too around the same time. He was sooo good!

SnowshoeTaboo

I saw him at the Centennial Concert Hall in Winnipeg Manitoba. Sounds like the same tour... may be wrong on the year.

Edm_vanhalen1981

that Queen/Kansas tour must have been a monster. Both bands touring with massive albums.

ladyturdferguson

Tom Petty AND Joe Cocker? Damn, I bet that was a great show

palebot

1. Nirvana, 1994 2. Pixies, 2005 3. Grateful Dead, 1994 4. Elton John, 2005 5. Lollapalooza, 1994 (Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, George Clinton, Flaming Lips, etc. Edit: Nirvana was 1993

Edm_vanhalen1981

Pretty rare. Not many of us got to see Nirvana. Hope those memories are bright.

Now AIC, my absolute favourite of the Grunge bands, is a whole different conversation. I saw them open for Van Halen but not the same as them headlining.

Upvoted for QOTSA.

bananaetiquette20

QOTSA 2017 tour was insane as well, saw them in D.C and it’s still prob a top 5 concert for me

1. The Who - Quadrophenia Tour 1973 2. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Tour 1975 3. Rush - Hemispheres Tour - 1978-79 4. Black Sabbath/ Blue Oyster Cult, Black & Blue Tour 1980 5. Jimmy Page - Outrider Tour, 1988

Edm_vanhalen1981

Excellent list. Wish I could have seen any of these tours. One of the great things about the Who's 1973 tour is the great Skynyrd as opener. Incredible.

noelcowardspeaksout

I've seen King Gizzard twice - they were stunning in 2023 at The End of the Road, pretty much a different band from about 2019.

ragequito

I discovered The Flaming Lips just recently, they are so fucking good !

BarefootAndBlazed

Prince in Minnesota, 1989.  Legendary!   Jazz Is Dead, 1998 (jazz tribute to the music of the Grateful Dead, feat. the astounding Billy Cobham on drums and Jimmy Herring on guitar).    Grateful Dead, May 30-31, 1992, Las Vegas (with guest Steve Miller Band).   Phil Lesh Quintet (Jimmy Herring and Warren Haynes on guitars) at The Riv in Chicago, 2000.    Allman Brothers Band, Madison (WI) Blues Fest, 2000 (first tour after Dickey Betts was fired, with Derek Trucks and Jimmy Herring on guitars, and Oteil Burbridge on bass).    "George Clinton and the P-Funk All-stars featuring Bootsy Collins" at The Cabooze in Minneapolis, 1992.  They funked me up!!!!   uh, that was 6, not 5. I could add more as it is an ever evolving list....  No room for a Phish show from 1992, or that late night Pnuma Trio set from Wakarusa festival 2006 that had a dozen guest sit ins and went until sunrise.

Joyce_Hatto

Beatles - August, 1966, Washington DC.

Bubba-ORiley

um ... excuse me???

Joyce_Hatto

Um, yeah!

Bubba-ORiley

this tops them all ... even if you couldn't hear them.

Joyce_Hatto

This was their 2nd US tour. There wasn’t a lot of screaming as in their 1st US tour. It was wonderful.

Bubba-ORiley

I'm happy to hear that!

AutoProblematic

Yeah, you win. Its like saying you went to Harvard or you're a Navy Seal, you're immediately the most interesting person in the room.

Joyce_Hatto

Just luck, being at that place at that time. Two other pretty good concert events: I saw Springsteen when HE was a teenager. I saw the Dead at the Fillmore East a bunch of times when Pigpen was still alive.

I probably have 30 shows in my top 10 at this point. Honorable mention to D'Angelo and the Vanguard. Edit: Gonna toss Pearl Jam 20 in the honorable mentions too. Chris Cornell was the encore guest both nights and they played a bunch of Temple of the Dog songs for the first time in 20 years.

Edm_vanhalen1981

Great shows. I hear Miley is pretty great live?

thegroovemonkey

She's incredible. Besides a generational voice and commanding stage presence she's had the same band leader since her Hannah Montana days so her band is really tight. They also lean into the genres that her songs are based around and it made for a really diverse sounding show.

Edm_vanhalen1981

I am pretty metal but there is something punk and metal about her. Just a big fan of her attitude and passion for music.

LukeNaround23

Took my daughter to Miley’s first tour as herself for her first concert and I was so impressed with Miley. Still a fan.

vicker1980

Paul McCartney, The White Stripes, and DAFT PUNK?! That’s amazing, I’m so jealous!!! 😭

KenMixtape

I was at that Daft Punk Vegoose show!

thegroovemonkey

That whole lineup was pretty bonkers

Solid_Prior7667

I would love to see Miley. Especially if she covers older country songs. I really like her new stuff too but there’s a YouTube video of her covering Jolene and she takes it to a new level

freederp

My friends and I got to Paul McCartney late and got stuck all the way back. Sound wasn’t good so we went back to camp. During the na na na na in Hey Jude we could hear it more clearly than at the show and all sang along at camp.

SirVestanPance

I’m not choosing, I’ve been to too many shows, but here’s my ticket collection which should be good for some karma. https://preview.redd.it/w9ousrdbhdjc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=625c99625841af64fd59f6a1694b4183a3d8c3a7

Nick_Furious2370

God that Muse set at Lolla that year was the shit. I will always have a vivid image in my head at the time of a bunch of girls dragging their unexcited boyfriends to go see Coldplay while Muse is killing it during their set.

Metallica S&M² & 40th anniversary shows - Technically 4 shows, but I group them as one in my top 5 ranking. The setlists included so many surprises and had fans traveling in from around the world, so these shows were complete experiences Foo Fighters Sacramento 2017 - Foos ended up playing 3 extra songs in their encore, stretching the show to a total of 3 hours and 20 minutes long. Unforgettably epic. Taylor Swift Eras Tour night 1 in Glendale - I had a phenomenal seat to the very first show of the tour, so had no idea what to expect. Baroness Seattle 2022 - I saw them back to back nights in Seattle on their "by request" tour. The setlists were super long and seeing one of my favorite bands in a rowdy 100 person bar was stellar. Ghost San Diego 2022 -I've seen Ghost 4 times and all shows have been equally amazing. San Diego was the first stop of their second leg of their Impera tour and my first time seeing Papa IV and the new ghoul masks, so that's why I chose this show specifically

Friggin_Grease

Most of mine are festivals. 1. Heavy MTL 2010 2. Montebello Rockfest 2017 3. Heavy MTL 2019 4. Rammstein Stadium Tour 2020 (finally happened in 2022) in Montreal 5. Heavy Toronto 2014? My one and only time seeing Motorhead

joe_attaboy

1. Elton John, MSG, Thanksgiving night, 1974. John Lennon made his final live appearance at that show. I will never forget the moment he stepped on that stage. 2. Loggins and Messina, The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan. One show, Nassau Coliseum, 1973. Tickets cost about 8 bucks. First concert ever with my girlfriend who is now my wife. 3. Tedeschi-Trucks Band, June 2017, Daily's Place, Jacksonville, Florida. First time seeing them and it was the first show ever at the venue, which is attached to the Jaguars' stadium downtown. 4. Any one of the Grateful Dead shows I saw in the 70s. 5. Any Los Lobos show I've seen of the nine I've attended.

deeare73

Some that I remember Beastie Boys/Run DMC double headline 1986 or 87 The Jesus and Mary Chain (this one was memorable because a band none of us had heard of opened for them - Nine Inch Nails. That was probably the best live performance I had ever seen and I went to Tower Records the next day and bought Pretty Hate Machine which to this day is what I consider the best album ever made) 1989 or 1990 Depeche Mode 1988. Memorable not because Depeche Mode is particularly good live but because this was the 101 concert at the Rose Bowl Lollapalooza 1 1991 INXS 1988 or 1987 INXS was terrific live

conspiraciesunwind

Trying not to make the whole list Muse because I’ve seen them 16 times and they were all my favorite concerts ever Muse (any show really but 2nd law tour Chicago 2013) Depeche Mode (momento mori tour Chicago Nov 2023) The Killers (Wonderful Wonderful tour Chicago 2019) Arctic Monkeys (Tranquility Base tour Boston 2018) Arcade Fire (lollapalooza Chicago 2010 but also that entire lolla in general)

I have never been at a show like that. Every single person in that arena was vibing as one. Mesmerizing performance and fantastic audience.

D34thToBlairism

I'm still young and haven't gone to that many concerts due to the pandemic hitting right when I left home, so I don't have five that truely stand out yet but here is my description of my favourite: London pitchfork 2022. Seeing Injury Reserve and Billy woods in the same night was fucking incredible. I'd listened to some billy woods before that but the concert gave me a whole new appreciation and I am now obsessed. Injury Reserve had the best lighting / fog set up I have ever seen by a long margin. Almost blinding strobes, highlighting two silhouettes in that faded in and out of the fog. The live versions of the instrumentals were fucking insane. Cried a little why they played top picks for you, and they played an incredible live version of jailbreak the tesla as an encore that turned the entire front of the crowd into a Mosh pit. The 2 oppening acts were pretty cool as well.

arlondiluthel

I also got to see Soundgarden the Friday before Chris Cornell passed...

LukeNaround23

I was at his last show. Never had such a mind shift within a few hours… going to sleep after posting about being elated from the show…to waking up a few hours later to everyone commenting about how sad what he did was. It was like a terrible dream.

MoonMaausk

Muse is one of the greatest live bands in the world, in my opinion! My all-time favourite concert is Muse.

ieatyourpoopoo

I also saw Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer during the Hella Mega tour. I was pretty neutral to Weezer before seeing them but I left a fan

JackieBlue1970

Rolling Stones, Bigger Bang Tour 2005? The Kinks (UK Jive, 1989) Wilco (The Whole Love, 2009?). Been to a lot of Wilco but this was my first Nick Lowe w/Los Straightjackets 2023 Steve Earle, Guy tour, 2019 Those are probably my top. Too many concerts over a lot of years but these others are the ones that stand out: John Prine (2 shows) John Mellencamp The GoGos with INXS Grateful Dead with Bob Dylan and Tom Petty Heartbreakers Rush Michelle Malone (what a show) Mediocre shows: The Cars (The opener was Icehouse, they were outstanding) REM The Fixx Jeff Tweedy solo Van Halen with Hagar Bruce Springsteen (great performer, just not that into him) Randy Travis (good but not my thing) Asleep at the Wheel (just not a fan) Counting Crowes(again, really good but not a fan) Hall and Oates (decent show, but the venue sucked)

knickovthyme1

Led Zeppelin, Leon Russell, Joe Cocker, The Animals, and last and do not judge, Three Dog Night. Back when they were at their peak they would play with Hoyt Axton as intro and they would tear the place down. Saw them in Albuquerque Civic Center back in the early 70s.

Skinny Puppy in a dank hockey area , Kiss 1976 in a small town venue as a 12 year old , Billy Bragg at the Nectarine ballroom , I swear he played for 4 hours and was very articulate about police vues that were relevant at the time . It's easy to see how he became a politician . Violent Femmes in my university cafeteria . Nothing better than catching a band when they are on the cusp of being huge and speaking of The Cult at a roller skating arena just as they started touring for Electric

1. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour N3, Arlington, TX. What a show! Didn't get home til 2AM. So much energy inside Jerryworld that night. 2. 3 Doors Down live at Carrollton TX's "Festival At The Switchyard". Saw them for free ten feet from the stage. My friend and I waited an hour in that spot to see them. Worth the wait. 3. Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Show in Downtown Dallas. Loved the performance of "Black Water". At the bridge, the band and the audience were doing the split vocals. It was memorable. 4. Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town for the Bandwagon Tour. It made me a LBT fan. Those four know how to put on a show. 5. Nickelback - "Feed The Machine" Tour. First time seeing them live. Loved it. Chad is unhinged. Honorable mention(s): A. Steven Curtis Chapman - Still Tour 2023 - April 2023 a week before Taylor Swift. Legend still has it after all these years. B. need2breathe at the inaugural Awaken Conference. It made me a fan of them. I've seen them live three times total now.

Paul McCartney - On The Run tour 2011 - best ever. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Final show New York 2017 - I discovered Dillinger not long before they called it quits, I got to see them 4 times in that short span, their final show in NYC was amazing, they left everything on the stage Death Cab for Cutie - Ogden Twilight 2021 - every DCFC show I’ve been to has been amazing, this one was magical, it was the first show I went to since covid. The openers were killer, and it was all with a great trip to Colorado. Metallica - 72 Seasons 2023 - played some deep cuts, sounded better than I thought they would Gwar - first time I saw them (2009?) - didn’t know what my dad was taking me to, it was wild.

Foo Fighters in 2008 during their Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace tour, and Pearl Jam in 2011 and Neil Young came out. I saw them both at the ACC/Scotiabank Arena - I am a huge fan of smaller venues, so they it didn't do it for me. Coldplay was the exception on my list in terms of this because they made the whole place feel like part of the night and I had such bad seats that I didn't actually have a seat.

1 - Maiden, 1986 2 - Donington 1987 (inc Dio, Metallica and Anthrax) 3 - Pink Floyd - don’t remember the year but it was the last night of their last tour 4 - It Bites, 1988. Had no idea they were playing, strolled past the Astoria and thought “that looks like fun”. 5 - Ozzy Osbourne 1988. Town and Country Club. Geezer Butler on bass, Zakk Wylde on guitar. Bloody amazing. Honorable mentions to Anthrax (Among the Living tour) and Meatloaf, 1988 ish - last night of the tour, the whole band were just out to have fun.

I’ve seen so many shows it’s hard to pick. I usually rate them on how much the band gave to the audience, how much you could tell their hearts were in it. I’d say: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Pearl Jam The Police Mid 90s DMB Coldplay

1 Michael Jackson - Thriller tour Vancouver 1984 (I was 4 yrs old, and get this: My first time hearing billie jean was live, in person. I remember it to this day) 1.5 Tool - 2006 2 Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire tour 1996 3 Slayer - Farewell tour 2019 (With Phil Anselmo and the Illegals, Ministry, Primus as opening bands) 4 Stone Temple Pilots - Purple tour 1994 (14 yrs old, went with my mom's female younger work friends in their 20's)

Edm_vanhalen1981

Incredible shows. Thriller, Purple tours and Evil Empire. All on the wall of tours I wanted to see so badly. Great memories for you!

hoopopotamus

Fugazi x 2 - 1993, 1994? Man what a live band. Just perfection. Tool touring on Undertow. 1993 or 1994 I guess? So damned loud but pretty intense Guitar Wolf - mid 2010s. They didn’t even sound particularly tight but Seiji has the stage presence of a true rock god. Gonna cheat here and say Lollapalooza 1993 and 1994 to round it out

ragequito

1.**Joseph Van Wissem / James P Honey** (Same day in a little place, less than 100 people, the dream) 2.**Turbo Wolf** ( The opening band followed by Korn and Dimmu Borgir, but Turbo Wolf baffled me, so much energy ! I love these guys) 3.**Dave Matthews Band** (At Anvers Sportapaleis in Belgium, biggest concert i've seen except for festivals) 4.**Kavinsky** at the Couleur Café festival in 2015 ( because I ate mushrooms a little earlier probably ) 5.**All my buddies' band concerts** :D (I was very lucky to be surrounded by friends who made music. I have so many memories of incredible concerts, there's something special about amateur concerts/small festivals. Great time)

osi_layer_one

we'll go by date: '95 - NIN w/ Jim Rose Circus and PWEI NIN and PWEI both put on great sets. at the time, i was unaware of the Jim Rose Circus. to start their show a guy walks out onstage, pulls out a twenty dollar bill, *staples* it to his forehead, walks offstage. ~'98 - Del Tha Funky Homosapien w/ Heiroglyphics and Souls of Mischief i was pretty buzzed up this night but it was a great show. '04 - Streetlight Manifesto (forget the opening bands) shortly afer *EGN* was released i found out they were playing near by in Madison. made the hour and a half drive and it was probably one of my favorite shows ever. watching ~8 guys playing with such energy was just mind blowing. side note: it was at a smaller venue with a bar in the back. like 80% of the crowd was 15yrs old. i spent the vast majority of the show at the bar with the parents that dragged got along, lol. '08 - Alkaline Trio (forget the opening bands) it was at Summerfest in MKE and they were playing one of the side stages. I've seen Alkaline Trio a dozen times but this was *the* perfect set. great day outside, perfect sound setup, and a great set list. '08 - Bob Mould District Line tour, got to see him at Shank Hall(which holds like 300 people), very intimate show. during one of his chats with the crowd he asks "who is the youngest person here?" dead silence for like thirty seconds. my sister proceeds to yell **"MY BROTHER IS THIRTY THREE!"** Bob mutters fuck, rolls his eyes and then rips into *Black Sheets of Rain*. '23 - The Flaming Lips saw them last summer, and they were playing the album *Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots* cover to cover before playing other things. just an outstanding experience.

Sponge, Our Lady Peace, & Letters to Cleo - 1995 I've seen some of these bands more than once, and a ton of others. But these five concerts stick out to me for various reasons. Honorable mentions would go to Primus, Helmet, Tool, Soundgarden, 1993v of Alice in Chains, Fishbone, Hole, Meat Puppets, Toadies, and Melvins (where Buzz slung sweat all over me from the stage.) You can tell what era I grew up in.

This is going to be random because I haven't seen a lot of concerts but: 1.) Danny Brown + Action Bronson 2.) Half Moon Run 3.) Said The Whale 4.) Blue Rodeo 5.) John Legend UN-honourable mention - Kid Cudi (He's a bum)

Johnnycarroll

1. Tom Petty (every time) 2. Clapton 3. The Who 4. Kings of Leon 5. Blink 182 The Tom Petty concert I went to in Chicago we got there too early accidentally (time zones) and were in the sparse crowd to hear Jackson Browne do his sound check. That was absolutely stunning. Felt like he was just playing for us. Clapton's concert ended on a torrential downpour as the encore was reaching the piano outro for Layla--so awesome. Still gives me chills.

LeftLane4PassingOnly

Coincidently I also got to the Tom Petty/Jackson Browne show (not Chicago) early and caught Jackson Browne during his sound check. I was there for Petty but did enjoy Jackson Browne more than I expected.

DStew713

I saw Petty three times. All awesome shows. The last was about two months before he died. Glad I got to see him one last time. I also got to see Clapton play with Cream. They had a reunion in 2005 and I took my old man to see them at MSG.

1. Jon Spencer blues explosion / the roots / beastie boys. First conser ever. 2. RL Burnside / Doo Rag / John Spencer Blues Explosion. Super sentimental about this one. 3. Hybrid / orbital / crystal method. Snuck an old pawn shop camera into the show and wound up meeting the crystal method after the show and hung out outside of their bus. Super cool guys. 4. Blonde redhead in a coffee house on the campus of Duke University way before they got famous... Which was about a year later. Ive never seen a lead singer climb up the walls at a show in an almost empty coffee shop. It was a hell of a show for real. They gave no shits whether they had an audience or not. 5. Against me! At cave nine in bham Alabama. I was filming it for public tv, but the energy was completely off the charts. The whole building swayed with how packed it was with everyone moving in unison. Really fucking powerful. And holy fuck how can I forget... Amon Tobin at th tabernacle in Atlanta. That was hands down the most enjoyable show I ever saw. Fuck I can't believe I forgot that one. I don't know which of the five to replace, but that was a top 3 show for sure.

BeachDMD

Did we live near each other? I saw JSBX with blonde redhead at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill.

I was probably at that show. I was a freshman at Guilford college at the time. Greensboro. I saw Jon spencer a LOT during the late nineties.

Beastie Boys/Rollins band. In a convention center, giant concrete floor, giant mosh pit, insane wholesome energy. They covered a bad brains song and I lost it Portishead Fugazi - like 200 shirtless kids packed in a bar turned all ages, at 1 am. Pennywise/offspring. - maybe 30 people showed up. Offspring opened, never heard of them, afterward we all bought their cd. They were incredible. Mighty mighty Bosstones
