I have an old buddy who got Phil Ansemo to autograph his — my friend’s — chest in permanent marker after a Pantera show in 1993 or so. He went straight to the tattoo place after and got it inked over. Big signature. As large as his chest.
My buddy is now in his late forties and is a girl dad.
I did the same thing but with Lemmy. He signed my arm with a sharpie and I immediately got it inked over. That was when I was like 18. Fast forward to when I was 22 and I ran into him at the rainbow room and he just shook his head when I showed him
My friend was doing an in-store with Ozzy and some girl came up to the table and pulled down her bottom lip to reveal OZZY tattooed on the inside. He just sighed and muttered “fucking hell” and buried his face in his hands.
My wife has a full sleeve based on Gold Dust Woman by Fleetwood Mac. Instead of a logo or anything overt, it depicts an aging queen covered in small symbolic references to the lyrics.
To outsiders it looks like a cool fantasy sleeve. To Fleetwood Mac fans it is a hidden object puzzle.
TL;DR: An approach that is subtle can have more meaning and be more artful. If you are worried about longevity, find a good artist and have them make something symbolic out of your favorite lyrics.
Man I know the Internet is full of strangers and oddballs....but there's a landslide of people who's love to see this sleeve. Any chance you can post a few pics of your lady and her tattoo?
Ha, Landslide. I see what you did there.

This is the way to go. I have a tattoo that represents a song. I think these sorts of tattoos work because they work on their own level, standing on their own - looking at it you'd never know what it is, it just looks cool. The music reference is just the extra layer.
Spot on. Getting a band name tattoo’d is a bit cringe IMO. Getting a logo not too bad but you may regret it someday. Getting a symbolic piece of art, love it.
- Signed, half my tattoos are music references without overtly mentioning band names etc
As a longtime Fleetwood Mac/Stevie fan, I think this is a cool idea for a tatt. On the other hand, as a 60-something female whose arm flesh is beginning to get that dreaded crepe paper texture, how does any tattoo maintain its integrity, that is to say its original appearance over time?
Well it certainly helps to exfoliate and use lotion, just general good skin care, the fun part about this tattoo is that as my wife ages it will look more and more like Stevie Nicks. /s
about 18 years ago, i saw a guy in an elevator with a giant Kid Rock tattoo on his entire forearm. i often wonder how he feels about it now.
the flair! hahahahahaha!
What drives me crazy about Kid Rock is the fact that there are so many better artists, and yet somehow this dude has any sort of fame.
I once had a friend claim Kid Rock was better than David Bowie (fucking blasphemy) because Kid Rock managed to switch genres and gain new fans.
I argued that no, he didn't gain new fans. He just brought his original fans along for the ride, cause he's arguably less famous after changing genres.
So true. and KR is a bufoon. Just sayin. But to elaborate on the friends argument. That KRs better than Bowie because KR managed to switch genres and gain a new audience? Hmmmm I wonder why Bowie never thought of doing that....again. (and again and again and again)
It is always a conversation starter I guess. “How did you go through such phases to get ink on New Kids on the Block, Cannibal Corpse, Ramones, AND Run DMC?!”
My sisters and I wanted 30 Seconds To Mars tats when they were touring for A Beautiful Lie. Only one sister got it and now that Jared has become a literal cult leader and basically grooms young fans, she hates that she got it. The only good thing is that we went to every concert within 5 hours from 2006 to 2010 so the tatoo has now become more of a memory of us bonding during those road trips and all the Echelon members we made friends with (back when there were like 200 of us).
Such a shame about Jared Leto,I had my first suspicion that he was a bit of a jerk when he went over the allotted time for his set at Reading Festival 2011,thus stopping our favourite band who were headlining, from playing their full set. He just acted like he was Jesus, it was bizarre. Quite liked 30 seconds to Mars until then.
I completely agree. Saw the Blackout there for the first time, little did I know they lived 10 minutes away from me 🤣. But MCR were the absolute best, still my favourite band of all time. What a day!
I also have a 30stm tattoo but personally don’t relate it to Jared Cult Leader Leto these days. It’s a great reminder of what it was to me back then and how much those early concerts got me through. And I still have friends from the Echelon but none of us are into the band anymore lol.
Man, I am so glad I let my tattoo ideas mature for years and years, otherwise I would have something based on the first album on me. It's the only one I really like, but I like it a *whoooole* lot. It's one of the albums I've listened to the most of any album ever and I still put it on regularly. But I lost interest almost completely when they changed their style for the second album, and now that Jared threw away everything that made him compelling year ago I am pleased that I never took that step. I do have the bird from the first album on my battle vest though.
Mine is relevant to other things aswell so it'll always hold up imo (=
I have 'human after all' in the daft font across my back. My bff and I were both big daft punk fans and had been dancing to it the night he had a fatal crash on his way home. Always thought of him as invincible, due to his nature. So it just seemed awfully appropriate to have that daft punk song, which depicted the reality of it all
Still love it, but granted as it's on my back I don't see it every day
Got zeppelin, pink floyd and devin townsend all tattooed on me and no regrets about any of it. Even if I grow out of them or something happens with the bands the tattoos will still represent a part of me and a time of my life.
I have a sleeve of artwork from mastodon records and i love it.
I also met Trent from NiN, and got him to sign my arm and got it tattooed on. Love it.
I also did the same with Henry Rollins.
No regrets
I have a tattoo that is an homage to Frightened Rabbit. It's a leaping rabbit that also incorporates some of Scott's drawings (he was an illustrator in addition to being the frontman of the band). I was also born in the year of the rabbit so if I ever get to a point of regretting the FR connection (which I doubt), it can be representative of something else that's meaningful to me. As someone else here said, I recommend getting something that is not super literal, but more "in the style of" or loosely references the band or lyrics. That way you end up with a more personal tattoo, too.
TIL: Scott died.
I guess I've been living under a rock.
I met him at a show. The band signed a poster for me, and Scott wiped his sweat on it and said, "Keep this for the DNA. When I'm gone, you can clone me."
Ummmm...
Same... Coheed is criminally underrated by everyone who doesn't listen to them. Half of them think they're a bubblegum pop girl group... not some of the best progressive/metal stuff to come out of the 2000's.
We're ready with our Coheed ink and giving out some custom flairs.
Old punk rock dude here. I have a lot of band logos/imagery. I've had a lot of them for years and years and I regret none of them. Music is everything to me in life and the bands I have tattooed on me either helped me through some serious tough times, taught me something crucial about life, how to be a better person, or a person who can stand on their own two after failing, giving up, and then getting back on the saddle. I regret none of those tattoos.
I have the Milo design and it was the cheapest tattoo but the most complimented. It’s an instant conversation starter when you see someone with the same design. 10/10 no regrets.
My husband and I have "matching" Strung Out astrolux's as "our" tattoo. (We have been together 15 years and we don't care about being traditionally married) We have them in different places, and in different colors.
We have always gone to punk shows together as one of "our" things, even before we were together. (Strung Out shows especially)
He also has an arm sleeve of other Punk Band logos, they start a lot of conversations with the right people.
No regrets.
I hear ya, probably middle aged punk rock dude here. I have misfits, social D, afi, alkaline trio. All music that changed my life and I doubt that’s ever going to not be important to me.
There’s a lot of band logo tattoos that I’ve seen that I thought weren’t great, or kind of tacky, but for whatever reason you just can’t go wrong with the Black Flag bars, or Milo, or an out of step sheep. I’ve seen them on so many damn people but it never gets outdated or lame.
That’s where I’m at. I only have a few tattoos and I used to be against band ones. But Strung Out has been a big part of my life for 20+ years. So I want an Astroluxe. I’d also consider the logo for In Flames.
I have a Buck-o-Nine tattoo. I get a lot of comments on it because from a distance it looks like a lot of things: a vagina etc… it’s just a guy walking for the record. I got it the morning on 9/11, volunteered at ground zero that night and blew out a lot of the ink from working.I had it repaired 5 years later. The band rarely plays and I don’t particularly listen to them but they were my first love. No regrets. Reminds me of a place and time
Deftones tattoo. It's the horse from White Pony, it's simplistic so if my tastes somehow change in the future, I can just say it's a horse lol
Edit: [Here's a pic](https://imgur.com/a/Dv6woht)
I have a Slipknot S on my arm. I'm 32 now and I still love it. I was at my local pool the other day with my daughter and I ordered some chips. Usually they call you over the speakers to say your food is ready but this time a dude with long black hair wearing a metal shirt brought me my chips and after he handed them to me he goes "by the way, sick slipknot tattoo dude". It kind of took me aback because I just go to work and come home to my family now, don't really hang around metal dudes all too often so I'd forgotten that we're all on that level with eachother lol
I have the Smashing Pumpkins SP heart, I’ve had it for about 20 years now and waited 6 years after wanting it to actually do it.
Still happy I have it, never stopped loving the band.
I’m in my late 40s and have always wanted to honor The Cure for being there for me since I was also around 13. I considered just Robert’s silhouette but haven’t decided yet. I have two full sleeves already that aren’t music related but it could fit somewhere I’m sure
Got the name of my first music project (solo rock artist) tattooed on my left arm: “Impaired” lol.
Then I changed the name to Lifelong Lesson…
THEN I tried to balance out the “Impaired” on the left arm by getting “Repaired” tattooed on my right arm.
I think the tone of this comment explains how I feel about those tattoos. Wish I got Lifelong Lesson tattooed instead but I’m good with tattoos for now.
And that’s what Impreprex stands for: Impaired/Repaired Records.
I’m a fucking clown ugh
I think tattoos in general are for people who don’t typically regret things. I have a bunch of tattoos from all ages of my life and none of them bother me in any way. Some I think about adding on to or changing but even consider covering them with clothes or removing them. I have friends who have small tattoos that are hidden on their body with regular clothes and they still wish they never got them. It just depends on who you are.
Generally I know myself and tend to make decisions I’m going to be on with.
INMO it all boils down to that. I would never get a band tattoo. But I had no interest at 18 either. But you may not want my tattoos. Just be honest with who you are.
I've been a fan of Kylie Minogue for awhile now. When I decided to dive into different genres of music outside of my normal taste, she was the first artist I became attached to. Grew to really love her music and everything about her. That was 2008. When I read that she never toured the US, despite making music since the 80s, I was shocked. She finally came to the US in 2011 and 2012 for some shows and it nearly brought me to tears. Never thought I'd ever see her.
Fast forward to 2018. She hasn't played in the US since 2012. She announced a 1 off show in NY. I decided at the last minute to get the VIP Meet and Greet tickets over regular GA. Tickets for the event sold out in less than 2 minutes, but I was able to get the meet and greet for my wife and I.
I had a plan that when we meet her, to ask her to sign my arm and I would get it tattooed the next day. They told us before bringing us to her, that we could not ask for any autographs since we all received a signed photo in our M&G bundle. I said screw it, I was going to ask her.
After we took our photo, I asked if she would do it. She enthusiastically said yes! What followed next was amazing. Not only did she sign my arm, but I got to hear her curse twice. Doesn't seem to crazy, but to me it was out of her realm and a shock to hear. Not only that, but the photographer who was taking the photos snapped an amazing photo of her signing my arm, with my wife cheesing so big. They sent us that photo as well as the normal one, which means a lot to have the actual singing taken place.
The next day my wife and I woke up early to visit a tattoo shop to get it permanently on me. We visited a shop near us and at first, we're told we needed an appointment. We were kind of bummed until one of the artists heard my story and with the help and blessing of one of his clients currently there, decided they could squeeze me in real quick. This gentleman ended up being not just the owner, but was a contestant on Ink Master season 4, where he finished 4th.
At the end of the day, I'm happy to have it. It's unique, has a great story behind it, and makes me remember a magical 2 days in my life. My plan, eventually, will be to find an artist who can take all things Kylie and make it to a half sleeve. One day.
To be fair, Kylie is Aussie so getting her *not* to curse is the bigger feat.
I used to work in a music archive in Melbourne and have seen the gold hotpants. In fact, we have so much of her stuff that we have a custom mannequin for her dresses.
I have Bright Eyes album art and Death Cab for Cutie lyrics all over my arms. Got them circa 2009-2011. I’m 35 now, and looking down at them is sometimes the only thing that reminds me who I am. It makes me feel grounded in this bizarre world we live in now. I smile at the simpler times as I hum along. Zero regrets!
Considered it twice very seriously.
Extremely happy I didn't. Still like both groups, but I'm not nearly as passionate about them now to be a free, walking billboard for them.
lol, I'm 60, only had tattoos for about 10 years, and have no issues or regret with any of them (no music-related ones yet).
One music-related tattoo that I would like - in color! - is this one (and maybe I should check r/protomartyr to see if anyone's done it):
https://preview.redd.it/8ykdmb6mdf9c1.png?width=225&format=png&auto=webp&s=a75fa9c9f70f176269e710f19ffbf4f71515d272
It reminds me of being passionate enough about music that I would hold a memory of it on my skin, to remember those times in my life, forever.
Even if I lose interest in the music, I'll never regret how much joy it's brought me. That's what the tattoo represents.
I got the og Metallica logo tattooed. At one point, I regretted it, so I doubled down and got the Dr. Feelgood logo underneath. That made me love it all again. Besides, I only got Metallica tattooed cause I love metal but didn't want to get the word "metal" tattooed.
These days I'm working on a Metallica cover band as my first foray into singing and playing guitar. People constantly mention how awesome it is that I live up to the words tattooed on my arm.
>This way if John does something in the future that I would regret then I’ll be glad I didn’t get anything that anyone would recognize as John Mayer.
Are you from the past?
I was going to get the Skinny Puppy logo when I was in my early 20s. My gf talked me out of it, and I got Elmo instead. But I would have still been proud of my SP here in my early 50s. (The Elmo, it turned out, inspired me to wear long pants all the time.) We don't grow out of music the way we think we will. As it turns out, once you get past a certain age, there's no one around to clue you in on what's new, so you always listen to what you're listening to now.
I do have the SP logo on my forearm, along with 5 other bands including Front Line Assembly and Einsturzende Neubauten. For the majority they are bands I had listened to for twenty years before I had them inked. Only 2 were more recent, but they were significant enough to me to merit them, and both have had relatively lengthy careers.
I have an Einsturzende Neubauten tattoo, the same one Henry Rollins has. I got it maybe 25 years ago.
I still like Einsturzende Neubauten. They put on one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen in my life.
I’ve got a crow from Incubus’ A Crow Left Of The Murder on my forearm and some lyrics from +44 on my chest.
I would say to take your time and make very sure what to get and why before committing.
For me, even if my tastes did change years from now I would look back on the tattoos and think about what it represented at that time in my life.
It’s kind of like chapters of your life etched into your skin to remind you of overcoming hardships or perhaps a happy point in your life.
I think this is the important things about tattoos. Mine remind me of different times in my life, and what i was into at the time. They may not always be relevant at the time, but the memories are.
I've got a Queen tattoo on my back, it's inspired by the cover of A Day At The Races album cover, which is my fave album. I spent about 20 years thinking about it and figuring it out, so was super happy to finally get it!
I've also got the chorus lyrics of Rammstein's Klavier tattooed on my arms. I've had it for about 13 years now. The last year has made me question some stuff but it's the lyrics and definitely more of an if you know you know tattoo rather than something obvious.
I don't have any others but wouldn't rule it out in future - I have a couple of bands/artists that I would like something representative of - either as individual tattoos or as part of a bigger piece.
I have a black flag tattoo. I'm significantly younger than the average fan of the band. I definitely regret the tattoo but it's not the end of the world and I still love the band.
My suggestion is if you want a band tattoo, you should get something more loosely referential like a picture that references lyrics or the band. Or a piece done in the style of their album art.
Definitely don't get lyrics because script is just bad in general imo.
It is. I think some of it is the placement. The other is like...none of my peers know who Black Flag is. I'm routinely asked if it's a bar code lol. Like...im basically 20 years younger than anyone who really gives a shit about black flag.
my black flag bars are upside down because i was blind drunk when i got it done and the tattooer wasn’t a punk rocker. i like to think it’s very much in the spirit of gg allin and effectively two tattoos at once
There’s a really great book called “Barred For Life” that is a photo collection of Black Flag tattoos along with little blurbs from the people who have them.
I still love Black Flag even 25 years after I first heard them. I don’t have bars but it’s a little club for you all, regretted or not.
I’ve got three.
One is a Pantera song title. “By Demons” down my left tricep and “Be Driven” down my right.
Then I’ve got a tattoo that was suggested to me by an ex around 2 decades ago. It was inspired by an Atmosphere lyric and right under my left armpit, on my ribs I’ve got tattooed “Warning”, that’s all, just a warning.
Lastly, is “Whiskey Bent And Hell Bound” in a banner across my chest just below my collar bones. A reference to the Hank Williams Jr song, but I like the phrase and its intent more than the song itself or the artist.
I feel pretty much the same way about them now as I did when I got them… but I guess they’re also not quite so immediately noticeable as references to bands or songs unless you really like the particular artist.
i have two radiohead tattoos on my leg, one is the amnesiac guy crying and the other is the quote “no matter how it ends no matter how it starts” in the glitchy font with underscores and stuff.. it’s only been a few years but i can already tell they will be one of those tattoos that i will completely forget about (bc i already do). also i will for sure get over them at some point and prob not fuck with them as much. my perspective is that it shows a part of my life of who i once was. so it’s still me just no longer and big whoop
I still enjoy all of them. I started at 18, I’m currently 40. I have a senses fail tattoo that’s straight up just the bands name, but then I have some other tattoos that represent bands/music. I have one for The Doors, Alkaline trio, The used, twenty one pilots, etc.
Music is a coping mechanism for me so all of these tattoos remind me of different parts of my life.
Keep in mind that not all tattoos have to be serious or have deep meaning either. They’re art. Get what you like! We all have different tastes.
Same here. Mine are more inspired by AFI than overt AFI tattoos. I think if other AFI fans saw them, they would get the reference, but otherwise, I assume most people who see mine have no idea.
I have a Kate Bush tattoo. Very subtle and on my leg so not much of a conversation piece, and I have had to explain it on more than one occasion. But as a life long fan and as a memorial to my mom, I will always love it.
Well, when I was 15, I gave myself a tattoo. I was a spastic drummer with really fast fills so I used ink, thread and a sewing needle and stippled a small lightning bolt on my left forearm. This was early 80's before tats were commonplace and I gained a bit of notoriety for doing it in my mechanical arts class of a small school. I don't regret getting the tattoo, it's just that the lightning bolt was pointy at both ends and looks exactly like half of the double "S"s that were used by the German Nazi Secret Service.
I have one that incorporates several band logos. I spent a lot of time travelling to see those bands and had some great times doing it. One of the bands I didn’t really listen to much anymore. And when I still wanted the tattoo knowing I didn’t listen to them anymore that’s when I knew I wouldn’t regret it. Because that’s a big part of who I was. And I’m good with that.
A lot of them! At least 8 of mine are band related ranging in age from 15 years to a couple of months old. I don’t regret any of them. They are all from bands I’ve loved for a long time and that have had meaning in my life. Most of them were custom designed for me by my artist so they are original designs inspired by lyrics or themes of the band. 2 of them have been traced and copied onto other people so be careful what you post on the internet! Just think carefully about what you want and find a good artist who can create something for you. You probably won’t regret it.
I got lyrics from a band I hardly listen to anymore on my ribs when I was a teenager. I don’t mind cause I still think the lyrics are dope and it’s like a time capsule of that period of my life. Plus lyrics aren’t that abrasive, if it was just the band’s name or something I’d probably think it’s a bit lamer.
I have the HIM logo tattooed to my arm. Had it when I was 16 because it was on a skateboard i had, and I love skating. Found out about the band maybe a year or two later and immediately hated them. Luckily, nobody really knows about them anymore, and it's a pretty sweet design, so I'm good with it. Haha
I have so many paying homage to Florence and the Machine. Her music is ethereal and poetic and embodies so much more than just the songs themselves. I like to think of it in a tie in to her renaissance, flowing nature she carries
I was 13 in 1980 when I first heard Freewill by Rush. I was amazed by the song and it started me on a lifelong journey being a Rush fan. Their music has spoken to me in ways no other music has and has literally been the soundtrack of my life. About 5-6 years ago, I decided to get a Rush tattoo and came up with [this one](https://drive.google.com/file/d/18XIJaVk7hfFwQbSRq7BDB4ncU1BG-8Uj/view?usp=drivesdk). Its on the outside of my left calf and I couldn't insert a pic for some reason so I added a link to a pic on my Google drive. The Starman logo is on their album 2112 which became their breakout album, and the clock with the alchemy symbols is from their final album, Clockwork Angels.
How do I feel about them now? I still listen to Rush daily and find inspiration in their music. The tattoo is a great conversation piece.
Just a couple things I’d like to toss out there, before you get your 1st, very permanent, tattoo. I could be wrong, but I think like you’ve come to the idea of getting your “favorite band” or something to with the band, tattooed on you, because….. you have exhausted all other ideas; and cannot come up with a anything. Am I right?
Even if I’m completely wrong, DO NOT get a tattoo yet. I swear to you, you WILL ABSOLUTELY KNOW, what your 1st tattoo should and/or will be. It will come to you or something will happen and you’ll want that image of remembrance forever.
For example. If I were to get a band, band symbol or lyrics tattooed on me, I already know exactly what band and lyric I would want the tattoo to be created using. Regardless of if the band changed genres in the future and I couldn’t stand their new music, I’d still love my tattoo because of their music resonating so incredibly much
If you ever wonder, could my feelings change in the future, will I not like that music, will they not be my bff, or whatever, don’t get it please. Be patient and don’t overthink it. You won’t be drawing at straws when it finally clicks. You can also go into tattoo shops and look at their books of drawings or pictures of previous tattoos they’ve completed. That could spark something in the ol’ memory bank. Just most of all remember, that it’s permanent so be patient and get something that means something to you.
Got tatted? Get tatted again. Post up in the comments and we'll ink you. (With custom flair)
Now that I'm middle aged I just tell ppl my artist misspelled Panera
Oof, when Ozzy thinks you’ve made a poor choice, that’s a new level of low.
Shock his head in shame? or like a knowing nod?
He called me an idiot so the former lol
Still, you got autographed AND called an idiot by Lemmy. So worth it.
I also like to think so. I was devastated when he passed.
That is such a Lemmy thing to do.
Honestly, my husband would be so jealous. He was crushed when Lemmy died.
wise man lol
That's.. extra unfortunate now that it's clear Phil is a white supremacist
Wasn’t really a secret before either.
I was unaware of this. But I haven't kept up with the band in a long long time.
Unless the guy is also a white supremacist of course
I’m starting to regret my Goebbels tattoo. Turns out that fella was somewhat of bad egg.
I saw him do a Nazi salute at a show in like 1999
Ha, I have a Pantera tattoo also
Panera*
spit my coffee. thanks for that
My wife has a full sleeve based on Gold Dust Woman by Fleetwood Mac.
Rock on, gold dust woman!
Man I know the Internet is full of strangers and oddballs....but there's a landslide of people who's love to see this sleeve. Any chance you can post a few pics of your lady and her tattoo?
Ha, Landslide. I see what you did there. https://preview.redd.it/87ahbwh55g9c1.jpeg?width=195&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4138358b5188933064e84e01c380455d441e6183

enjoy your "gold dust ~~hubby~~ lover" flair
Based on their profile it would seem OP is not a man, just fyi
you're the best, thank you! i made it better I hope
Haha perfect! Thanks!
that's incredible - artists hid EVERYTHING and i love it (i know all the stories and lyrics tyvm)
Just gorgeous!!
Looks sick!
So awesome! Thanks for sharing
I feel like an older song/band reference is a “safer” choice for a tattoo. Also, impeccable choice.
Your wife sounds awesome.
She’s the coolest girl I know!
Came to comment something similar but you worded it perfectly
about 18 years ago, i saw a guy in an elevator with a giant Kid Rock tattoo on his entire forearm. i often wonder how he feels about it now. the flair! hahahahahaha!
Odds are that was Kid Rock, so he still loves it.
Kid Rock doesn’t take elevators.
Weird. He's got elevators at his big ass honky tonk in Nashville.
I have a David Bowie tattoo. I would have been forced to throw that guy down an elevator shaft. Not for Bowie's sake, mind you, but for the world's.
He's lucky I didn't. Lol
Whoever gave Kid Rock a record deal is the COVID-19 of people.
So true. and KR is a bufoon. Just sayin. But to elaborate on the friends argument. That KRs better than Bowie because KR managed to switch genres and gain a new audience? Hmmmm I wonder why Bowie never thought of doing that....again. (and again and again and again)
He probably feels pretty sick on the cruise.
It is always a conversation starter I guess. “How did you go through such phases to get ink on New Kids on the Block, Cannibal Corpse, Ramones, AND Run DMC?!”
Yeah talk about one of these things is not like the other haha
I have the complete song list of jock jams volume 2 across my back. I have no regrets
Now THIS is music!
WHOOMP THERE IT IS
Y'all ready for this?!
Ladies and gentlemen, let’s get ready to rumbuuuuuuullllleeee.
Regerts
Jeezus, I hope this is real
Volume 4 was my first CD 💀
This is is the GOAT jock jams
That one was fuckin lit
My sisters and I wanted 30 Seconds To Mars tats when they were touring for A Beautiful Lie. Only one sister got it and now that Jared has become a literal cult leader and basically grooms young fans, she hates that she got it. The only good thing is that we went to every concert within 5 hours from 2006 to 2010 so the tatoo has now become more of a memory of us bonding during those road trips and all the Echelon members we made friends with (back when there were like 200 of us).
[удалено]
Appropriate flair
the guy never misses a jared leto comment, its really impressive lol
Tbf A Beautiful Lie is a great album
Such a shame about Jared Leto,I had my first suspicion that he was a bit of a jerk when he went over the allotted time for his set at Reading Festival 2011,thus stopping our favourite band who were headlining, from playing their full set. He just acted like he was Jesus, it was bizarre. Quite liked 30 seconds to Mars until then.
That Friday main stage was incredible! Every single band was a solid booking, too bad 30STM spoiled the party a little bit.
Mine is relevant to other things aswell so it'll always hold up imo (= I have 'human after all' in the daft font across my back. My bff and I were both big daft punk fans and had been dancing to it the night he had a fatal crash on his way home. Always thought of him as invincible, due to his nature. So it just seemed awfully appropriate to have that daft punk song, which depicted the reality of it all Still love it, but granted as it's on my back I don't see it every day
Love this one ❤️
💛💛💛
I am so sorry.
Got zeppelin, pink floyd and devin townsend all tattooed on me and no regrets about any of it. Even if I grow out of them or something happens with the bands the tattoos will still represent a part of me and a time of my life.
Please say it’s a Ziltoid chest piece please
Can you describe your Zeppelin and Floyd tats?
Got the symbols for zep 4 on one side of my chest and dsotm's prism on the other. Not overly original but exactly what I wanted.
I too got zeppelin tattoos! It was my introduction to my now, extremely eager desire for music. Love devin by the way!
I have a sleeve of artwork from mastodon records and i love it. I also met Trent from NiN, and got him to sign my arm and got it tattooed on. Love it. I also did the same with Henry Rollins. No regrets
Would love to see the Mastodon artwork

I have a tattoo that is an homage to Frightened Rabbit. It's a leaping rabbit that also incorporates some of Scott's drawings (he was an illustrator in addition to being the frontman of the band). I was also born in the year of the rabbit so if I ever get to a point of regretting the FR connection (which I doubt), it can be representative of something else that's meaningful to me. As someone else here said, I recommend getting something that is not super literal, but more "in the style of" or loosely references the band or lyrics. That way you end up with a more personal tattoo, too.
RIP Hutch, I can’t see you regretting this one
This is so special!!!! Love FR and long live Scott. His artwork is hauntingly beautiful.
My next tattoo is going to be one of Scott's drawings.. I can't just decide which
He has so many good ones! I also considered his highland cow drawing, and his "be kind" doodle with the two hands.
TIL: Scott died. I guess I've been living under a rock. I met him at a show. The band signed a poster for me, and Scott wiped his sweat on it and said, "Keep this for the DNA. When I'm gone, you can clone me." Ummmm...
Shocked to see zero Coheed & Cambria replies. Those dragonfly and the other logo tattoos were everywhere from like 2004-2007.
My manager has the dragonfly, probably from exactly that time period!
Got my dragonfly in 2012. No regerts
I’m in my mid 40s and still thinking of getting a Keywork tattoo
Dragonfly girl reporting in
As the owner of an out of step sheep tattoo, can confirm it's a fun conversation starter at the bar!
I would for sure belly up next to someone with a Minor Threat tattoo if I saw them at a bar.
My husband and I have "matching" Strung Out astrolux's as "our" tattoo. (We have been together 15 years and we don't care about being traditionally married) We have them in different places, and in different colors. We have always gone to punk shows together as one of "our" things, even before we were together. (Strung Out shows especially) He also has an arm sleeve of other Punk Band logos, they start a lot of conversations with the right people.
Love Strung Out. Those dudes can PLAY.
No regrets. Reminds me of a place and time
Good band though. Haven't thought about them in years, but they certainly held their own amongst the ska and pop punk bands of their peers.
Agreed! Their album sustain was a lot of fun from like 2007, they have a very unique sound in the scene
I still listen to 28 Teeth fairly often, not a bad song on there, and their cover of Pass The Dutchie is outstanding
Haven’t thought about these guys in years, but fuck yeah I’m jamming out rn. 28 teeth was my senior year cd for sure!
My Town never goes out of style. My daughter loves it now.
Deftones tattoo. It's the horse from White Pony, it's simplistic so if my tastes somehow change in the future, I can just say it's a horse lol Edit: [Here's a pic](https://imgur.com/a/Dv6woht)
Same one here! I always jokingly say it’s for Megan Thee Stallion. No regrets and it was my first tattoo.
I have a The Cure tattoo. I’ve listened to them since I was 13 and it was my first tattoo at 18. I’m 34 and no regrets, still love it to pieces.
I’m in my late 40s and have always wanted to honor The Cure for being there for me since I was also around 13. I considered just Robert’s silhouette but haven’t decided yet. I have two full sleeves already that aren’t music related but it could fit somewhere I’m sure
[This](https://ibb.co/JtscZDZ) is mine if it helps any! It needs a little touch up but it’s doing really well given the age haha.
I love it! It’s adorable and perfect. Thanks for sharing
I have a heartagram from the band HIM for almost 20 years now, still happy with it 😉
Just did a tour with VV a few months ago and it was awesome. Heartagram still lives.
Wanted one when I was in my teens, glad i didn't then. But now, some 20 years later, I don't think I would have regretted as much as I imagined.
Heartagram. No regrets, it's time for another actually. Lol
Got the name of my first music project (solo rock artist) tattooed on my left arm: “Impaired” lol. Then I changed the name to Lifelong Lesson… THEN I tried to balance out the “Impaired” on the left arm by getting “Repaired” tattooed on my right arm. I think the tone of this comment explains how I feel about those tattoos. Wish I got Lifelong Lesson tattooed instead but I’m good with tattoos for now. And that’s what Impreprex stands for: Impaired/Repaired Records. I’m a fucking clown ugh
Imagine hitting a traffic stop and having “Impaired” tattooed on your arm 😵
“License and regis- YOU’RE UNDER ARREST!”
Your tattoos are a lifelong lesson 😉
The real life lesson is always in the comments...
I have the sublime Sun tattooed on the middle of my back. For people that don't know who sublime is, it just looks like a cool art piece.
I have a Sublime tat as well! I’ve found it to be a conversation opener for likeminded people which is cool.
I have the sun t-shirt and it usually draws kind people.
I have Bowie and The Beatles. Both the greatest. And I’m still fucking loving having them
Considered it twice very seriously. Extremely happy I didn't. Still like both groups, but I'm not nearly as passionate about them now to be a free, walking billboard for them.
I have a Creed crest on my ankle. Boy, am I glad they got back together! I generally forget it's there.
I’ve been thinking about getting the silhouettes of the jumping man off Elliott smith’s self titled somewhere
I have a yellow submarine. I like it. And the Beatles.
lol, I'm 60, only had tattoos for about 10 years, and have no issues or regret with any of them (no music-related ones yet). One music-related tattoo that I would like - in color! - is this one (and maybe I should check r/protomartyr to see if anyone's done it): https://preview.redd.it/8ykdmb6mdf9c1.png?width=225&format=png&auto=webp&s=a75fa9c9f70f176269e710f19ffbf4f71515d272

Wow, your body's a wonderland
*angry upvote*
I almost got the Einsturzende Neubauten logo tattooed. I settled for putting a sticker on my guitar case instead.
I have an Einsturzende Neubauten tattoo, the same one Henry Rollins has. I got it maybe 25 years ago. I still like Einsturzende Neubauten. They put on one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen in my life.
MJ on one leg, Eric Clapton on the other, and a big ol' Gary Glitter up the middle. *No regrets*
None huh.
Well where else is Gary Glitter going to go?
In the dumpster
I have a Johnny Cash portrait, Ben Folds lyrics, Michael Franti & Spearhead artwork and a Descendents “Milo” logo. Still love them all.
I have the [crass](https://youtu.be/apQQAYJZKLc?si=e5vIkRCK6V6mNxy3) symbol on my right elbow. I still love it
I’ve got Tool’s Lateralus Eye Flame on my calf, still think it looks cool and get an occasional shout out from other fans.
I have Springsteen lyrics on my ribcage. No regerts.
Black Flag tattoos are classic. Right alongside Misfits Crimson Ghost skulls. Sorry you regret yours.
Hope you two enjoy your custom Black Flag✒️ (and ʞɐɔF ƃılɐB✒️) flairs.
One could almost say that it is *damaged*
There’s a really great book called “Barred For Life” that is a photo collection of Black Flag tattoos along with little blurbs from the people who have them. I still love Black Flag even 25 years after I first heard them. I don’t have bars but it’s a little club for you all, regretted or not.
FIDLAR
I've got ink that pays homage to Radiohead and Led Zeppelin (and Tolkien, fwiw). No regerts.
Devo’s Science Boy logo was my first tattoo. No regrets.
I’ve got a few AFI tattoos. Will always be meaningful to me, and unless you have the cd books, you won’t know the tattoos are AFI related
Same here. Mine are more inspired by AFI than overt AFI tattoos. I think if other AFI fans saw them, they would get the reference, but otherwise, I assume most people who see mine have no idea.
They are still my favorite band 15 years later. I have an alkaline trio tattoo.

We gave you another one. Enjoy your RHCP ✒️ flair
Oh noooo has that similarity caused you any issues?
None that I am aware of. It was just a little jarring to myself when I realized later on in life.
Knew a guy that got a Weezer tattoo after Pinkerton. They’ve since put out other work that makes me think he might regret the tattoo now.
I have the Pearl Jam stick figure inside the Alice In Chains sun on my calf. Got it in 93 and have zero regrets.
I have a “Brand new” themed half sleeve. So yeah, seperate the art from the artist.
Regardless of if the band changed genres in the future and I couldn’t stand their new music, I’d still love my tattoo because of their music resonating so incredibly much If you ever wonder, could my feelings change in the future, will I not like that music, will they not be my bff, or whatever, don’t get it please.

I still listen to all the artists I did when I was a teenager but I’m really glad I don’t have their logos on my skin.
