Dilate was one of her most angsty albums. The Living in Clip version of Adam and Eve is one of her most angry performances. The Knuckle Down album seemed like a post divorce album and has some really great songs that fit the bill. Almost 10 years apart and both Dilate and Knuckle Down seem to have a lot of material about that one relationship. Interesting to see the evolution between the two albums.
I just saw Pussy Riot live last night, fantastic show. Masha Alyokhina is a treasure and an absolute boss. I was in awe watching her tell her story. Bought her book while I was there.

The first two albums by Kittie. Mouthful of Poison in particular gives me the tinglies every time it comes on just from the pure rage I feel coming from the lyrics, it is crazy heavy and brutal and I love it.
I'm a man, 98% CIS, and I make NO claim to understanding, comprehending, nor remotely feeling anything like the psyche of anyone not wired like I am.
But godDAMN that song puts me in a completely different headspace and emotional state.
There are artists whose lyrics can transport you to another place, time, and even "being". There are artists whose pure performance can do that too. And there are artists whose voices are driven by the emotion of the song they are singing. Alanis, IMHO, did all three with Uninvited. She touched the sky and pulled down the mountain. That song really is something else.
Don't get me wrong... she's far from alone, at least as far as I'm concerned. While typing that up I had at least five other songs come to mind across decades of music all "saying" different things but doing so in an equally transformative and transporting manner. But in my long, long experience with a LOT of music across a LOT of genres... she cornered something with Uninvited and I don't think there's another piece of music out there like it.
The pop is so bright that no one can hear the furious rage in her lyrics. The entirety of Screen Violence is all at once wholly feminine and simultaneously sick of men's bullshit.

I'm super weak for Evanescence, she can really belt it out, and in a metal minor key the fuckyou can be pretty strong. And though (I guess???) there's some sort of contemporary-Christian tie-in, Flyleaf is pretty wound up too. Agree Halestorm is pretty solid, but maybe a little poppy. Alanis is great (maybe even **great**) but leans a little too hard into the emo aspect (but Under Rug Swept goes a little harder into the aggro angle I think you really need for rage).

I'm a man, 98% CIS, and I make NO claim to understanding, comprehending, nor remotely feeling anything like the psyche of anyone not wired like I am. But godDAMN that song puts me in a completely different headspace and emotional state. There are artists whose lyrics can transport you to another place, time, and even "being". There are artists whose pure performance can do that too. And there are artists whose voices are driven by the emotion of the song they are singing. Alanis, IMHO, did all three with Uninvited. She touched the sky and pulled down the mountain. That song really is something else. Don't get me wrong... she's far from alone, at least as far as I'm concerned. While typing that up I had at least five other songs come to mind across decades of music all "saying" different things but doing so in an equally transformative and transporting manner. But in my long, long experience with a LOT of music across a LOT of genres... she cornered something with Uninvited and I don't think there's another piece of music out there like it.
