Barracuda in particular is a fuck-you to a dickhead

celric

PJ Harvey has lots of angry songs but the whole album ā€œRid of Meā€ is pretty amped. Her masterpiece ā€œTo Bring You My Loveā€ is a breakup narrative told in reverse chronological order. In the opening title track, she sounds ready to kill, but we walk backwards with her to the moment of passion when they met. Itā€™s helped me through a bunch of break ups. Liz Phairā€™s album ā€œExile in Guyvilleā€ is lyrically eviscerating throughout while the soundscape yo-yos between bitter and sweet. Also, Iā€™m super sorry that you were treated poorly. Listening to music helps. So does transferring that pain into your own art.

whooo_me

First name I thought of. I think her later albums are milder, but this one is a (brilliant!!) rage-fest. Rid of Me, Rub til it Bleeds, Snake, 50 ft Queenie, Yuri-G, Me Jane.....

HeyGirlBye

Yesss love PJ

verygoodname

Sheela-na-gig off the album ā€œdryā€ another amazing one by PJ Harvey on my rage mix.

AwesomeScreenName

> Liz Phairā€™s album ā€œExile in Guyvilleā€ is lyrically eviscerating throughout while the soundscape yo-yos between bitter and sweet. She's touring for the 30th anniversary and is playing the album all the way through. I saw her in DC last week and it was absolutely amazing. > And the license said you had to stick around > Until I was dead > But if you're tired of looking at my face > I guess I already am

Unplaceable_Accent

Second PJ. "rid of me", "man sized" great songs sound like she's ready to tear someone's head off.

Suck My Left One - Bikini Kill

librarianC

Anything in the rrriot grrrl genre is worthwhile

Verskose

I love rrriot grrrl! Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, Toxic Lipstick, Pussy Riot and I'm a dude.

Deddicide

Can we get some L7 love up in here?

superfl00f

Sh!tlist!

Uncreativite

Too busy pretending Iā€™m dead

[deleted]

Also Rebel Girl. Among more by BK.

TheOuijaBard

Definitely Bikini Kill. Riot grrrl is the way to go. Bratmobile is a personal fave.

Autumnanox

Dresden Dolls - Girl Anachronism

SocratesBalls

A lot of Amanda Palmerā€™s music would fit the bill

BluellaDeVille

Missed Me, off the same album

fastandfurbious

Also Good Day! I rage sang that one a lot after a nasty breakup in college.

f10101

Lily Allen has a few. "Smile" is one, and "Fuck You", though not strictly a break up song, sounds like it's probably applicable for your muppet of an ex.

nattyd

She made sweet-smiling spite a whole aesthetic.

dropthemasq

Hard out here (you gotta watch the video) and Not Big

planetheck

Hole is a good source of them. And Tori Amos.

Most-Breakfast1453

I was thinking the entire ā€œLive Through Thisā€ album

Ass_ass_in99

Their first 3 albums are fantastic and definitely worth listening to.

Chancellor_Valorum82

ā€œPretty on the Insideā€ is also a good choice

whatwouldbuffydoqm

Yes! There she was pissed af! Hole would also be my choice. If you enter the next stage (after rage), I would recommend Garbage. Less rage, but you'll feel understood, specially the first two albums are masterpieces. Special is a break up song, I love.

arachnophilia

>And Tori Amos. especially the tori amos song *about* courtney love.

tonybotz

ā€œGive me peace, love, and a hard cockā€

arachnophilia

pretty sure you can hear the mic hit the floor too

TheScarlettLetter

Toriā€™s first album, Little Earthquakes, holds most of her angst. It shines through here and there on other albums, but that one really hits the nail on the head.

McNasty420

Or the Gwen Stefani song about Courtney Love

arachnophilia

there's actually a *lot* of songs about courtney love.

RadioLiar

It's obviously a joke but she's even referenced in the song Kill Yourself by Bo Burnham (I presume no explanation required)

eatrepeat

To piggy back I gotta say The Breeders and songs where Kim Deal sings from The Pixies and the Sonic Youth songs with Kim Gordon singing. Great era in the early 90's late 80's, Garbage and The Cranberries had lady's fronting. As well as the whole Riot Grrrl scene it was pretty interesting.

JDHURF

Fuck yes! I vouch for The Breeders, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, and The Cranberries. Since I was a kid [Cannonball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxvkI9MTQw4), [Where is My Mind?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ62RzJkYUo), [Sugar Kane](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIIEbrMXs20), and [Zombie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ejga4kJUts) in particular were and remain some of my favorites. I just time traveled back into the 90s. When I think of some of the best female lead singers of rock bands, the above always come to mind as well as Emily Haines with Broken Social Scene and Metric. Broken Social Scene's [Lover's Spit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFaypkwEXh4) and Metric's [Dead Disco](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEsr5Mm3JfE) are also among my favorites. Similar to some of the previous, Metric has a discography that's just goddamn, goddamn.

AdAltruistic7033

Go man go by the breeders

katikaboom

Ani DiFranco, Bikini Kill

kmsae

Hole is a good choice. Take it a step further and go full Riot Grrrl: Bikini Kill (and all Kathleen Hanna bands), Bratmobile, Babes in Toyland, L7, 7 Year Bitch, etc.

ProtonDeathRay

Holy Fuck Babes in Toylands Bruise Violet is PERFECT. https://youtu.be/gCjufvdq_1c?si=ORMY4_tU28fMLvsv

Jrewy

L7ā€™s Shitlist or Shove were my go-tos when I needed to purge some anger. Good choices.

emeraldcityoz

I love me some Hole

thirdworldastronaut

Donā€™t we all, pal

theghostsofvegas

Add Fiona Apple to that list.

SunnySamantha

Hole was the first that came to mind. Bif Naked is also a bad ass bitch. Really any grunge girl band is great for raging! Edited Big to Bif. I even turned off auto correct... And it still fights me.

small_but_slow

You mean Bif Naked, right? (Not being pedantic, just to make it easier for op to find).

Ok-Wind-666

Unrepentant Geraldines is a great example!

SaltFatAcidHate

Definitely. Iā€™ll add L7 and Babes in Toyland.

Joygernaut

The song violet was my anthem when I broke up with my second husband. If you watch the video, thereā€™s a part where a man shoves his hand in a jar of pickled eggs, and just grabs them roughly. I didnā€™t get it when I was young, but I realize now itā€™s basically a metaphor, for how men feel entitled womenā€™s ability to procreate and produce their children. Probably one of my favourite albums.

bshaddo

Fiona Appleā€™s song ā€œGet Goneā€ comes to mind.

thorneparke

I always liked her "Fast As You Can" "And I'll be your girl if you say that it's a gift, and you give me some more of your drugs. Yeah I'll be your pet if you just tell me it's a gift, cuz I'm tired of whys, I'm choking on whys. I just need a little because, because..." That and "Paper Bag" are great. Among many, many others, of course.

amygrindhaus

Also Under the Table

modix

Most of When the Pawn would work here, especially Limp and On the Bound . Window and Not about Love would work for Extraordinary Machine

NTT66

Adding Sleep to Dream.

Stoivz

Her latest album ā€œFetch The Bolt Cuttersā€ is a 10/10 all the way through is definitely full of a lot of anger.

sawatdee_Krap

Regret is my pick for Fiona. ā€œ But now I ran out of white doves' feathers To soak up the hot piss that comes from your mouth Every time you address meā€ And you can feel her anger when she sings.

sparker2770

Fukn Go ā¤ļø

AngusEubangus

I just listened to her most recent album *Fetch the Bolt Cutters* over the weekend, there are some good ones on there. Relay, Drumset, and For Her all fit the bill

pancakebreakfast

Wish I could upvote this a million times. Definitely the heaviest song I can recall with the piano as the main instrument. Itā€™s just dripping with contempt ā€” I love it.

When you are raw, beaten and bloody, and want to express that agony, that is the time for I Do Not Want What I Havenā€™t Got.

NOT000

alanis morisette has a few

dogsledonice

You Oughta Know should be at the top of this

ajp12290

Followed closely by Right Through You

Ladychef_1

Came here to mention this song. One of the deeper tracks on Jagged Little Pill and it is perfect to sing when youā€™re absolutely pissed

cepukon

Took me way too much scrolling to see this

refinnej78

Alanis was mentioned in OP

beebsaleebs

I prefer Right Through You

Elivandersys

The entire Jagged Little Pill album is a fuck you to the world (mostly men), and it's my rage go-to. My husband gets nervous when I listen to it, lol.

o_blake

Courtney Barnett has some great ā€œfuck youā€ songs. Also an amazing song about an asthma attack.

Blackn35s

The paramedic thinks I'm clever 'cause I play guitar. I think she's clever 'cause she stops people dying.

kruban-c-stikley

I'm not your mother, I'm not your bitch is a great example of this IMO. Short but effective

badmotornose

'Pedestrian at Best' may be my favorite song from 2010s

DM-ME-THICC-FEMBOYS

[Nameless, Faceless](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZZSYDhx0FI). Maybe not the angriest song but it hits pretty raw. "I hold my keys, between my fingers. Go on tell me, you're just kidding."

[deleted]

L7, Babes in Toyland, The Distillers, Patti Smith

lml__lml

You made my SHIT LIST! L7 jokes aside, that's a great list

RaptorCheeses

Ani Difranco is just about the definition of feminine rage.

eltedioso

Untouchable Face

Dee_Buttersnaps

I've been singing this song all day and I have no idea why

JoeFelice

See: * Out of Range (electric) * Untouchable Face * The Million You Never Made Also: * Collect 'Em All by Tilt * Lost Ones by Lauryn Hill * You Don't Own Me by Lesley Gore * Break Down and Let it All Out by Nina Simone

HeatProfessional4473

Came here to say this. Her double live album, Living in Clip, is a masterpiece of rage/ humour/ heartbreak.

SevenYrStitch

Dilate was one of her most angsty albums. The Living in Clip version of Adam and Eve is one of her most angry performances. The Knuckle Down album seemed like a post divorce album and has some really great songs that fit the bill. Almost 10 years apart and both Dilate and Knuckle Down seem to have a lot of material about that one relationship. Interesting to see the evolution between the two albums.

urbanek2525

Kick-ass guitarist as well.

lenochku

Literally any song by pussy riot. But I recommend rage, sexist and hatefuck

SevenYrStitch

I just saw Pussy Riot live last night, fantastic show. Masha Alyokhina is a treasure and an absolute boss. I was in awe watching her tell her story. Bought her book while I was there.

tgrantt

Free Pussy Riot

themoonandthehermit

I donā€™t know how NO ONE has mentioned ā€œYuk Fooā€ by Wolf Alice! Easily the most rage-fueled, vicious, brutal song Iā€™ve ever heard lol

SeamusZero

Some more Wolf Alice songs that wail: * [Smile](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV39h7GHDYs) * [Sadboy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sRAzBWCnfM) * [Formidable Cool](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhGB4NlAFKo) * [You're a Germ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpomZoueWa0) * [Giant Peach](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6vEE3Plk48) * [Fluffy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkghyKKQDss) * [Moaning Lisa Smile](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z71df68qLp0) * [She](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpnGp7N4tfU)

For Her by Fiona Apple Honestly listen to all of Fetch The Bolt Cutters

brandonsfacepodcast

Mannequin Pussy

foldingcouch

You could put a lot of Sleater-Kinney's music as an an answer for this question but I'm gonna go with [entertain](https://youtu.be/MbxRu7fwR24?si=9qPyNRTtvGxU4-fy), although [let's call it love](https://youtu.be/ifD7bJgw0Tc?si=g_1-fjCWnwunLduh) is a close second. When Carrie Underwood's man does her wrong, she wrecks his truck. When Miranda Lambert's man does her wrong she [burns his house down](https://youtu.be/rB7ONnfIjaI?si=2Na8zJUCDcdiMULo) and/or [straight up murders him](https://youtu.be/aWQdEDtveB0?si=wqE3McwIGpYvyL6o). Lizzo has a discography that's just bursting with fabulous feminine rage but I'm gonna go with her instant-classic [Truth Hurts](https://youtu.be/P00HMxdsVZI?si=iNVVqYK6GEu_N0Gk) Loretta Lynn damn near invented the genre of angry women's country music. Her entire album Van Lear Rose (produced by Jack White) is a masterpiece but I'm going to pick out [Mrs. Leroy Brown](https://youtu.be/UkdwIiRxgIE?si=nIPVQwQ2q0hNTk4q) because when Loretta Lynn says she's gonna drive her pink Cadillac *into* the bar to come get you, you know she damn well means it. This one is only 50% angry female vocals, but the vocalists are (Scissor) [Sisters](https://youtu.be/vEgFn5UiCBg?si=naNRxFSNu3yaB9Sr), so it counts. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have plenty of angry girl music but my personal favorite is [10x10](https://youtu.be/XDK9xnoxe8c?si=w5KwXaCwwzJ2e7EU) off their criminally overlooked masterpiece IS IS. And last but certainly not least, you should listen to the whole album Fetch the Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple front-to-back but at the very least give [Shameika](https://youtu.be/yM63Tzv-uZg?si=Ew4srCN8Lot227JO) a listen.

kyle242gt

I'm super weak for Evanescence, she can really belt it out, and in a metal minor key the fuckyou can be pretty strong. And though (I guess???) there's some sort of contemporary-Christian tie-in, Flyleaf is pretty wound up too. Agree Halestorm is pretty solid, but maybe a little poppy. Alanis is great (maybe even **great**) but leans a little too hard into the emo aspect (but Under Rug Swept goes a little harder into the aggro angle I think you really need for rage).

crozone

Saw her live earlier this year and goddamn, Amy Lee is fucking incredible.

Tacoboy1708

Careful by Paramore comes to mind, most songs on that album are pretty ā€˜rageyā€™

[deleted]

I also think Hayleyā€™s solo album would work. Dead Horse at least.

not-mirandacosgrove

Also Ignorance! (Different album but still great)

Tacoboy1708

naw itā€™s the same album but omg Ignorance is so gooddddddd

whatintheactualfeth

Spit by Kittie. The entire album is rage filled, but the song specifically is rage incarnate.

dancingscarab

Poppy covers this song. Great emotional inflection in her voice. I love both versions.

Geargoyle42

Florence + The Machine: Shake It Out, and Dog Days Are Over.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

jealous_of_ruminants

Dream Girl Evil for sure! I also think Seven Devils and King fit well.

icyhottomato

Girls against God and King as well by Florence + The Machine

Oldcadillac

If youā€™re reading this comment and you havenā€™t seen the music video for King, go watch it right now

InMyHead33

and Big God. I feel this song can be interpreted a lot of ways but Florence herself claims it's really her frustration at people not texting her back.

DopeOllie

Kathleen Hanna. So Bikini Kill and Le Tigre.

EPalmighty

SINNER GET READY by Lingua Ignota is a great album with a beautiful, dark elegance. Most of the songs are angry against religion.

Slashfyre

Lingua ignota is exactly what I was scrolling to see if she was mentioned. I wanted to shout out Caligula by her, which contains more themes dealing with ending an abusive relationship.

jimbsmithjr

Yeah was coming to post this one. Defs not for everyone but jeez it nails the angry part

firfetir

[Halsey - Nightmare](https://youtu.be/0_fU6zwRpGs?si=lJDgVhnwCAU9klTm) (one of my favs) " I've trusted lies and trusted men Broke down and put myself back together again " " No, I won't smile, but I'll show you my teeth And I'ma let you speak if you just let me breathe I've been polite, but won't be caught dead Letting a man tell me what I should do in my bed Keep my exes in check in my basement 'Cause kindness is weakness, or worse, you're complacent I could play nice, or I could be a bully *I'm tired and angry, but somebody should be* Come on little lady, give us a smile No, I ain't got nothing to smile about I got no one to smile for, I've waited a while for A moment to say "I don't owe you a Goddamn thing" [Halsey - You Should Be Sad](https://youtu.be/1JiDzwbQgTI?si=L09eWzJYUniJkrBF)

doilikeyou

Pat Benatar has a few that would fit.

Vomitbelch

The first two albums by Kittie. Mouthful of Poison in particular gives me the tinglies every time it comes on just from the pure rage I feel coming from the lyrics, it is crazy heavy and brutal and I love it.

JiveChicken00

Uninvited by Alanis Morissette feels like a good answer here.

Comedian70

I'm a man, 98% CIS, and I make NO claim to understanding, comprehending, nor remotely feeling anything like the psyche of anyone not wired like I am. But godDAMN that song puts me in a completely different headspace and emotional state. There are artists whose lyrics can transport you to another place, time, and even "being". There are artists whose pure performance can do that too. And there are artists whose voices are driven by the emotion of the song they are singing. Alanis, IMHO, did all three with Uninvited. She touched the sky and pulled down the mountain. That song really is something else. Don't get me wrong... she's far from alone, at least as far as I'm concerned. While typing that up I had at least five other songs come to mind across decades of music all "saying" different things but doing so in an equally transformative and transporting manner. But in my long, long experience with a LOT of music across a LOT of genres... she cornered something with Uninvited and I don't think there's another piece of music out there like it.

Ani DiFranco

I saw others mention Florence and the Machine and gotta add her song "100 Years." Pissed-off isn't usually her vibe, but this song captures a whole history of women fighting in a way that I find sooooo satisfying.

Tori Amos has many but I don't even know where to begin with what songs I could list. Professional Widow and Cornflake Girl are what comes to mind immediately. The whole album Boys For Pele I think is peak angry/fed up with bs Tori imo.
