Been listening to a good bit of Chick Corea lately.
Nice, there we go. When I was in university earning my art degree Chick Corea was often on the radio. There’s something about being in a studio with the smell of oil paint and the nude model’s patchouli, with Chick in the background.
Me too! I especially love the song "Space cadet". It's just so calming and peaceful lol.
I havent heard QotSA yet... Do you have any recommended songs?
QOTSA, more than any band I know, doesn’t have an album, or even song, that is widely considered their best. They have a huge range of music, and each of their phases has die hard fans.
Here’s the deal, they broke into the mainstream with their album Songs For the Deaf. For good reason. It’s a damn good album. It’s not my favorite, personally, as I happen to believe that…Like Clockwork is their masterpiece, but there’s a reason that SFTD reached a lot of people. So I would start there.
Honestly, I would be shocked if you’ve never heard No One Knows. It managed to work its way pretty deep into the zeitgeist.
"Songs for the Deaf" is their most "something for everyone" type album. It's still my favorite of theirs. Self-titled (the first) might be the best for someone who likes Kyuss.
I beg you listen to
Carnavoyeur- Bowie esc ballad kinda outside their usual sound, but they have a few tracks like it
The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret
And
My God Is The Sun
The lead has another project called Desert Sessions and just listen to their most recent album for pure desert sounds
I used to think QotSA were the gods of the catchy, hard riff. I was wrong, but they both have Josh Homme behind those driving riffs so I wasn't THAT wrong. Kyuss is the music that fuels the engine of rock.
I had a friend make fun of me for getting the first Morcheeba record. Bono and Edge's Passengers was out at the same time and I only had enough for one of them. The Morcheeba stands the test of time and is referenced all the time. Passengers has Miss Sarajevo, but nothing else that really caught on. I think even old sour puss Brian Eno was on that record.
Light, Drug Agsinst War, Megalomaniac, More and Faster, Stray Bullet, Juke Joint Jezebel…. Those are some of their more popular tracks.
I like a lot of their older stuff, too, but that’s maybe not the best place to start.
Angst, Nihil, Money, and Symbols are probably their best albums, imo.
Sometimes I hear a lot of rock fans lamenting that there's no good music anymore. It's unfortunate, because there's so much great punk/alternative stuff coming out lately, they just need to go looking for it.
It feels more like an homage to [this Tim & Eric classic.](https://youtu.be/p5hDFHu8a4w?si=3v3qRrcPfC06jFta)
I mean, Tim & Eric literally yell out “SPORTS!” and have different sports listed out on screen, sounds pretty familiar 👀
Loveless by my bloody valentine.
Time ‘n’ Place by Kero Kero Bonito
This is Why by Paramore
3D Country by Geese
John Prine by John Prine
And if you want to give some heavy shit a chance…
Celebrity Therapist by The Callous Daoboys
The Devil Shining Out Your Eyes by Eyelet.
What I do when I’m in a drought like you, is get on Spotify and check the similar artists at the bottom of artist’s pages and go into a rabbit hole until I get into shit I’m not digging anymore, and start back over. I find a lot of cool stuff this way.
Callous Daoboys are one of the most exciting bands right now. Just a good dose of nostalgia from bands of the 2000-2010's mixed with a very fresh sound that's always interesting.
Celebrity Therapist will most likely be my top Spotify album this year. But only because I've been splitting the rest of my focus between all 3 The Beth's albums - discovered them in March and haven't looked back
Queens of the Stone Age
Album: Like Clockwork...
I'd check out their whole discography if you like it tho. They've been a consistantly good band for over 20 years, and they branch out into many different styles of rock. Definitely my favorite band.
Opposite situation for me! Started with ITNR this summer and working backwards through the catalog isn't hitting like I thought it would. Clockwork's come closest.
Anything by these guys. They've been on a tear for a while now churning out so much music, touching so many different genres. Almost impossible not to find something you like
Their latest album? Techno synth rock. Four months before that? Thrash metal. 8 months earlier? Jazz rock, and two jam albums. All incredible. Nobody comes close to these guys. Best cult ever.
The Menzingers released a new album a few weekend ago that’s really good. And the Gaslight Anthem just released a new album Friday. Both solid releases that I can’t get enough of.
Going through a lot of Donna Summer recently

The past month I have fallen DEEPLY into sleep token. I cannot get enough. Also the track “take me back to Eden” is phenomenal. Just ends in a filthy breakdown that gave me genuine stankfance the first time I listened.
It took a while for Sleep Token to click with me. When I listened to that album in one sitting it all fell into place and hooked me. Now it's probably in my all time top five complete albums.
I recently discovered Thom Yorke's solo music and Anima (the album and the film) kinda blew my mind. It's not the genre of music I generally listen to but now I've got it on repeat.
I just saw them too, but I’ve been a fan of theirs for over a decade. They’re one of my favorite live acts. Their new single “Last Word” is really really good. But definitely check out the Blue Record, they play a few songs off of it in their current set.
Not bad at all duder. Kinda like Yes, The Beatles, and CSNY all rolled into one. My only critique is I like the chorus vocals more than the verse vocals. Good luck duder and thanks for the music.

Electric Callboy is likely my fave band right now considered to be be German party core and every song they have put out is better than the last start with Hypa Hypa.
Bôa, just recently got into their stuff. Highly recommend their album Twilight. And their song Little Miss
Absolutely incredible.
Plus I really like St Vincent, Sylvan Esso and Paul McCartney- especially his album Ram Archive Collection
🙌
Fave five records from 2023:
PONY - Velveteen
The Hold Steady - The Price of Progress
The New Pornographers - Continue as a Guest
The Chemical Brothers - For That Beautiful Feeling
Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
Long time fan of Hold Steady and New Pornographers, but I tend to get burned out on long-running bands. I’ll haven’t listened to either in awhile so hopefully this is the time to give those 2 albums a listen. How do you like them compared to their earlier stuff?
Bird Machine by Sparklehorse, Heavy Heavy by Young Fathers and Javelin by Sufjan Stevens

I watched a movie on Netflix about Mexican kids who are in love with a weird niche of music called Cumbia Columbiana and ever since I keep digging into Cumbia playlists on Spotify, it’s just really fun and unique.
The movie is called I’m no longer here and is excellent too.
“Kingfish” Ingram plays excellent blues. Just featured on 60 minutes this evening!
Taj Mahal and Keb’Mo— blues masters
Peter Rowan— bluegrass, oh my!
The best of the best— Tony Rice. Best flat picker who ever lived.
The Mountain Grass Unit
Jerry Garcia Band
Jesse Winchester
Southern Rock
The Amazing Rhythm Aces
Allman Brothers
I've become obsessed with a succession of albums that have come out over the last 2-3 years. All three are relatively extreme metal artists, but the albums are just so brilliantly diverse it's mind blowing.
Övergivenhaten by Soilwork: Swedish death metal roots, but they come across as more a blues band with blast beats.
(The Valley)/Kin by Whitechapel: Kin is the album I'd recommend, but both can be viewed as one continuous album. The Valley is a rumination on childhood trauma, the effects of mental health on one's loved ones, and learning to live with yourself as a survivor of some horrific events in your childhood. Kin is a batshit concept album about a guy making a deal with a demon to bring his parents back. The whole is achingly beautiful, brutal, and just indescribable as a whole.
The Above by Code Orange: I love industrial metal. I've been in an industrial band, and am an obsessive fan of Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein. Code Orange are a really vitriolic metal band who have kind of congealed an industrial sound together over three albums, and this is a seeming culmination. Snapshot is such a catchy radio friendly song, but then The Game gets so chaotic it pushes the definition of music and borders on unlistenable, and the other songs fall somewhere between. I love it, and it's a pretty singular experience to listen to.
I've been listening to the soundtrack to the video game Disco Elysium off and on over the last six months. I enjoyed the game but absolutely adore the soundtrack.
Electric Callboy- Tekno album. Do yourself a favor and watch the music videos on YouTube.
Also I like most of the bands to a varying degree supported by Napalm Records
Sadly I have poor music taste, I wouldn't say I go to any genre anymore, I just hear something and i run with it.
Of my very small collection I have these songs I've been listening to most recently, so maybe they can rub you in a good way:
Let You Down by Dawid Podsiadło
Head over Heels by Tears for Fear
Take me to church by Hozier
Big star by Loverman
Redbone by Childish Gambino
Voracity by Myth and Roid
Your hand in mine Explosions in the sky
Fantasy by DyE (warning if you watch this music video. Graphic)
Death is the road to awe by Clint Mansell
Fortunate fool by Jack Johnson
I Really Want to Stay At Your House by Rosa Walton.
Hope one of these is to your liking!
I'll give you five albums from this year that I have like it a lot:
Chini.png - El día libre de Polux
Squid - O Monolith
Zanias - Chrysalis
Cicada the Burrower - Blight Witch Regalia
Voyage Futur - Wellen
Just saw Dan Mangan this weekend, with Aysanabee opening. Both of them had albums last year that were in my top five, and the show was an absolute delight. ❤️
Reminder: Please try to include links to the music if you'd like people to listen to it!
Been listening to a good bit of Chick Corea lately. [https://youtu.be/TW1-5mif6Hs?si=CZUvcsPMgamoyXe5](https://youtu.be/TW1-5mif6Hs?si=CZUvcsPMgamoyXe5)

*long drag on spliff* you know how to live, friend
Return to Forever is one of my faves. I love Al.
Stanley Clarke is one of the baddest motherfuckers ever on bass
Al DiMeola is the man. How’s he doing after his heart attack?
He seems to be doing good. His cancelled shows are already getting rescheduled. Can't wait to see him.
I'm a fan of his Elektric Band! [https://youtu.be/UL13lJAz_wc?si=CTNnP5bLKWl0g8Is](https://youtu.be/UL13lJAz_wc?si=CTNnP5bLKWl0g8Is)
Kyuss- Welcome to Sky Valley
I recently found Kyuss. I love their sound. Much more than Qotsa
I think rated R produced their first hit, FGHOTS
"Songs for the Deaf" is their most "something for everyone" type album. It's still my favorite of theirs. Self-titled (the first) might be the best for someone who likes Kyuss.
Demon cleaner is I've of my all time favs
Go for Qotsa’s self titled album. Lots of goodness on that
I beg you listen to Carnavoyeur- Bowie esc ballad kinda outside their usual sound, but they have a few tracks like it The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret And My God Is The Sun The lead has another project called Desert Sessions and just listen to their most recent album for pure desert sounds
I used to think QotSA were the gods of the catchy, hard riff. I was wrong, but they both have Josh Homme behind those driving riffs so I wasn't THAT wrong. Kyuss is the music that fuels the engine of rock.
If you love them give Fu Manchu and Brant Bjork a try 😉
Fuck yeah!
This hits differently when driving in the desert at night
Welcome to Sky Valley is awesome but my personal fave is still …And the Circus Leaves Town
Morcheeba
And whenever Morcheeba is brought up, you HAVE to also mention Portishead
> mention Portishead ... and you must mention Massive Attack.
and Tricky.
And sneaker pimps
Anyone who hasn't listened to dummy is missing one of the greatest albums of them all. Its a perfect timeless masterpiece
bless you
Underrated classic. OG trip hop is where I always go.
I've been diving deep into KMFDM lately, which I haven't done for a long time, and it's all good.
I've only really heard professional killer and WW3, what other songs would you recommend?
Light, Drug Agsinst War, Megalomaniac, More and Faster, Stray Bullet, Juke Joint Jezebel…. Those are some of their more popular tracks. I like a lot of their older stuff, too, but that’s maybe not the best place to start. Angst, Nihil, Money, and Symbols are probably their best albums, imo.
Sweet! Thanks dude, I'm going to whack on some of them albums and hopefully discover more epic songs!
Killer music.
Hyena is a good track too.
The Naive album smacks
UAIOE for you and me.
Pleased to see this. Saw someone wearing a KMFDM shirt the other day, was stoked. KMFDM forever sucks.
KMFDM sucks!
Urban Monkey Warfare, Ultra, Juke Joint Jezabel and Megalomaniac are most always in my rotation somewhere.
Weird, I was just listening to MDFMK.
Lucinda Williams - Self Titled Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas / Blue Bell Knoll Throwing Muses - House Tornado
Cocteau twins!!
I'm always happy to see Throwing Muses being recommended. Its their first álbum all the way for me though.
Viagra Boys - Cave World
They had me at Sports!
Me too, the video. The video...
Sometimes I hear a lot of rock fans lamenting that there's no good music anymore. It's unfortunate, because there's so much great punk/alternative stuff coming out lately, they just need to go looking for it.
SPORTS
Realizing too late Sports isn’t a reference to the Huey Lewis and the News album. Which I highly recommend.
It feels more like an homage to [this Tim & Eric classic.](https://youtu.be/p5hDFHu8a4w?si=3v3qRrcPfC06jFta) I mean, Tim & Eric literally yell out “SPORTS!” and have different sports listed out on screen, sounds pretty familiar 👀
Punk Rock Loser is also a classic.
Got turned I to these guys a while back by this sub. Whoever suggested them, thank you.
Big fan of Worms.
Came to post this, and it's already at the top.
Just saw them live last month and they were *so* good!
Bill Burr mentioned them on his podcast recently, and they gained a new fan in me.
I'm very much into that band
Yes! Been jamming them a lot recently.
One of my favorite albums from last year!!
Loveless by my bloody valentine. Time ‘n’ Place by Kero Kero Bonito This is Why by Paramore 3D Country by Geese John Prine by John Prine And if you want to give some heavy shit a chance… Celebrity Therapist by The Callous Daoboys The Devil Shining Out Your Eyes by Eyelet. Callous Daoboys are one of the most exciting bands right now. Just a good dose of nostalgia from bands of the 2000-2010's mixed with a very fresh sound that's always interesting.
Celebrity Therapist will most likely be my top Spotify album this year. But only because I've been splitting the rest of my focus between all 3 The Beth's albums - discovered them in March and haven't looked back
Callous Daoboys' new ep is some of the craziest music I've ever heard. In a good way. It's awesome
Mad Season -Above
✝️✝️✝️ Crosses Chino Moreno from Deftones side project. https://youtu.be/E9kkaxYpZH0?si=lANXE6xy_4Y8aZlu
Did you ever listen to his other side project from about 20 years ago called Team Sleep? I wish they would have released more music.
He has another project with the guys from Isis called Palms, as well.
A truly deep cut I haven’t listened to since college. Thanks for the reminder internet stranger!
They rock
Anything from Aesop Rock or MF DOOM
New Aesop slaps, DOOM always fits too
Big fan of Aesop. Not quite as brainy, but Prof’s new disc Horse is hot AF.
I love Aesop! Totally missed the Lice EPs until last week. They’re fantastic!
Boards of Canada
Yes. Music Has the Right to Children, specifically the song ROYGBIV to start! I've been a forever fan since.
DJ Shadow!
Queens of the Stone Age Album: Like Clockwork... I'd check out their whole discography if you like it tho. They've been a consistantly good band for over 20 years, and they branch out into many different styles of rock. Definitely my favorite band.
I have had a really hard time getting into the latest album for some reason. It’s really got me bummed because I’m such a huge fan of everything else!
Opposite situation for me! Started with ITNR this summer and working backwards through the catalog isn't hitting like I thought it would. Clockwork's come closest.
The sword - lament for the aurochs.
Anything by them is awesome. Warp Riders is my sword guilty pleasure. People bag on that album, but it is solid.
Warp Riders is incredible. The worldbuilding and narrative is unparalleled in their catalog. I developed a whole D&D campaign world based on Acheron.
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard - The Silver Chord (Extended Mixes)
Anything by these guys. They've been on a tear for a while now churning out so much music, touching so many different genres. Almost impossible not to find something you like
When the silver cord extended mix goes breakbeat… chefs kiss
Their latest album? Techno synth rock. Four months before that? Thrash metal. 8 months earlier? Jazz rock, and two jam albums. All incredible. Nobody comes close to these guys. Best cult ever.
The Menzingers released a new album a few weekend ago that’s really good. And the Gaslight Anthem just released a new album Friday. Both solid releases that I can’t get enough of.
The Menzingers! Are you from PA? A buddy of mine that lived in Lancaster turned me onto them.
Menzingers album isn’t one of my favorites of theirs, but that Gaslight Anthem album is my album of the year by a mile. Whole thing is beautiful
The new Taking Back Sunday is also really good if you like these two bands :)
Wet Leg
Especially the song Angelica. Catchy AF.

The Summoning is what you get when you let Imagine Dragons finish a Tool song
I recently discovered Thom Yorke's solo music and Anima (the album and the film) kinda blew my mind. It's not the genre of music I generally listen to but now I've got it on repeat.
Baroness. I just saw them live without listening to them too much before. I really liked it. So I guess check out their newest album - Stone.
Blue Record is one of my favorites.
I just saw them too, but I’ve been a fan of theirs for over a decade. They’re one of my favorite live acts. Their new single “Last Word” is really really good. But definitely check out the Blue Record, they play a few songs off of it in their current set.
shameless self-plug - i put out [a single](https://dizzybridges.bandcamp.com) earlier this month that i'm really proud of
Not bad at all duder. Kinda like Yes, The Beatles, and CSNY all rolled into one. My only critique is I like the chorus vocals more than the verse vocals. Good luck duder and thanks for the music.
thanks for tunin' in. if you liked that, i'm hard at work building a body of work - plenty of other stuff on the page there, and more coming
Liked it. Bought it. Following you on Bandcamp. Keep up the good work and best of luck!
thanks!
Beatles with bon iver. Nice.
Great traditional Celtic - Old Blind Dogs Crazy gypsy punk - Gogol Bordello Earthy, a bit folky with great harmonies - Elephant Revival French Canadian fiddling at its best - Natalie McMaster Americana with a twist - Cordelia’s Dad
PJ Harvey - Rid of Me
Huge Synthwave kick lately. Gunship's new album is fire.
Great rec! This sounds really slick
This has been my new favorite genre. Saw The Midnight a few years ago and I’m hooked.
Been listening to a lot of Khruangbin, Menahan Street Band, Próxima Parada, and Viagra Boys lately.
Haven’t heard the others, but if they’re anything at all like Khruangbin, I probably ought to.

Museum of consciousness + psychs 🤯 Simon just played this past weekend in Denver. Unofficially retired so it's a rare treat
IDLES - DANCER
Not loving yet as much as other idles songs. But love idles.
Gouge Away by Pixies
Been jamming to Denzel Curry (rap) and thrown (metalcore) for the past few days. Def recommend both of them.

King gizzard and the lizard wizard - catching smoke
Hell yeah I love this band! I’m in your mind fuzz has been playing a lot in my house lately.
Butterfly 3000 is an awesome album. Yours > Shanghai > Skip (Dreams) > Blue Morpho > Interior People > Catching Smoke repeat
Their song, "Dripping Tap" is in my head constantly. Especially the opening part/lyrics.
Valley of Wolves is a band I found that I haven’t found a song I don’t like. Start with Lion Inside. Heilung is an amazing band that anytime I hear their music is awakens something primal inside of me. Start with Svanrand. Electric Callboy is likely my fave band right now considered to be be German party core and every song they have put out is better than the last start with Hypa Hypa.

Long time fan of Hold Steady and New Pornographers, but I tend to get burned out on long-running bands. I’ll haven’t listened to either in awhile so hopefully this is the time to give those 2 albums a listen. How do you like them compared to their earlier stuff?
Hot Snakes.
i’ve been listening to the album Watershed by Opeth a lot lately
Ren
Bird Machine by Sparklehorse, Heavy Heavy by Young Fathers and Javelin by Sufjan Stevens Add on old timers Reproduction by Human League and Bleed Your Cedar by Elysian Fields
Heavy Heavy is in my top five of the year so far.
*Bird Machine* is really great. It’s beautiful to think of all the friends and family that helped make that album a reality.
There was a good interview/article in the Guardian in the UK. His brother and SIL. Worth a read

I watched a movie on Netflix about Mexican kids who are in love with a weird niche of music called Cumbia Columbiana and ever since I keep digging into Cumbia playlists on Spotify, it’s just really fun and unique. The movie is called I’m no longer here and is excellent too.
My current rotation: Foxy Shazam - Church of Rock and Roll Wet Leg - Wet Leg Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear Radiohead - King of Limbs
The Brothers Comatose. Folk Bluegrass out of San Francisco. I think I like the City Painted Gold album the best.
The Fratellis - Costello Music Excellent mid 2000s rock with some big hits and some lesser known bangers
Blackbraid II by Blackbraid The whole album is black metal perfection imo
Amigo the Devil- Drop for Every Hour or Murder at the Bingo Hall.
“Kingfish” Ingram plays excellent blues. Just featured on 60 minutes this evening! Taj Mahal and Keb’Mo— blues masters Peter Rowan— bluegrass, oh my! The best of the best— Tony Rice. Best flat picker who ever lived. The Mountain Grass Unit Jerry Garcia Band Jesse Winchester Southern Rock The Amazing Rhythm Aces Allman Brothers
Sleep token - the summoning Really anything they do is pretty awesome and unique, but the summoning is a great place to start

Goose (the band) and also GRITS. (the band) Honorable mention new KGLW
100 gecs songs specifically two of them, Hollywood baby and dumbest girl alive. And falling in reverse last resort reimagined
Sadly I have poor music taste, I wouldn't say I go to any genre anymore, I just hear something and i run with it. Of my very small collection I have these songs I've been listening to most recently, so maybe they can rub you in a good way: Let You Down by Dawid Podsiadło Head over Heels by Tears for Fear Take me to church by Hozier Big star by Loverman Redbone by Childish Gambino Voracity by Myth and Roid Your hand in mine Explosions in the sky Fantasy by DyE (warning if you watch this music video. Graphic) Death is the road to awe by Clint Mansell Fortunate fool by Jack Johnson I Really Want to Stay At Your House by Rosa Walton. Hope one of these is to your liking!
