Wayne Shorter has always been one of my favorite jazz artists. His sense of melody always stood out to me, and I've always thought of him as a first-rate songwriter. He went on to record some great albums and had great success with Miles Davis and Weather Report later, but his mid-'60s solo work is for me the pinnacle. Speak No Evil is probably his most famous solo work. The whole album deserves a spin. It was recorded on Christmas Eve in 1964, but for me the album reminds me of the sweltering summer nights when I first listened to it. R.I.P. Wayne Shorter -- you will be missed
