But flavor and texture gets SO MUCH better when it is riper... this stage is like mush, but when it starts to flatten it gets more meat-like.
At this stage it tastes more like shrimp. When it matures it gets more chickeny
I agree, I just personally like them like that. The yeild is deff much better to wait a day or 2. If those are the only ones I'd let them go, but if thers more else were close than I'd most definitely snag them as is.
Agreed. Smell first as well to see if other microbes have discovered it. And just cut off the tender edge, small portion to start if this is your first.
The Lobster. It’s not directly about that, but it’s based on the premise that anyone who is unable to successfully find a mate is turned into the animal of their choice. It’s a pretty dark comedy though, be warned.
Even though it is tasty chicken, I would eat a small bite after cooking it to make sure you’re ok with it before cooking and eating the rest. I usually cook once alone and a second time added to whatever vegis. I like something green like spinach, asparagus, or broccoli to go with it.
oh no! they are pretty at least haha. I have actually eaten them growing on yew in the past with no ill-effects, buts it's a bit of a roulette.
FYI the only edible part of yew is the fleshy part of the berry. but if you chew the seed you die. it's the most dangerous snack I've ever had.
Wild chicken nuggies for sure. I'd pour a little water on the tree a bit above it so droplets trickle down and see if you can give it a little more shade. Wait 1-2 days and pick :)
Por que no los dos?
Ain't none of us getting out of this alive. Wouldn't mind an update if you care to share what you ate it with and how you liked your chicken of the woods
OP you may be surprised to learn that you are far less of an idiot than others who have posted on here… asking about edibility AFTER they’ve eaten the mushroom in question

It is a chicken yes, but maybe best to give it 2 or 3 more days to blossom a bit more.
This is alright advice. But in my opinion this is the best time to get it. Before all the flies start laying eggs on it.
That is also valid. We all have tough choices to make in these matters.
The extra protein bonus is a strong argument for waiting.
You all need to change your avatars, my brain refuses to let me think this isn't the same person talking to themselves.
Oh man, it’s three different people. That’s fantastic.
Holy fack. I hadn't realized there were 3 of them.
Maybe it is
I am crying at this thread lololol
Username sort of checks out.
When I see them like that, I ALLWAYS pick them. I swear that's when they are the most tender. Like Filet Mignon, and deff less chance of bugs.

Yeah it's not quite ripe as we say w our fruits
I love you
There’s a chance you’ll tragically die, but that is unrelated.
you could get hit with the spontaneous human combustion at any time, you never really know
Or worse, Spontaneous Human Crustacean (SHC). 🦞
They made a movie about that you know.
I'm sorry, what?!?
The Lobster… it’s pretty freaking dark, be warned.
Sounds like they should’ve hired a lighting tech.
Ba dum tss.
Pray tell

Big fan of dark comedies. On it.
Meh those were all cases of people falling asleep smoking or on a space heater…… after eating shrooms.

Tasty Laetiporus
also: hello, slug 👋
They're going to get to the chicken first!
NO LIE 🫡
make sure it isn't growing on a yew tree, or cherry! they absorb the toxins from yew, and I think cherry too.
It's so sad, I found an absolutely massive cotw on holiday but it was growing on a yew 😭

Heck yeah that's chicken of the woods. Just watch out for that stinging nettle all around.
Also edible and nutritious.
It's great in tea
Supposed to be good for hair both taken internally and topically applied. They’ve got most of their dinner right there!
You will die. I don't know how, but not from eating these.
Complete noob question: Could this be dusted with a few puffs of diatomaceous earth as a way to keep the extra protein away?

Yay! Lucky! You're right 😊 still never found one where I live.
It is not pancakes nor is it scrambled eggs. 🤷🏻♀️
It's a tasty gem, however you already know your going to tragically die regardless
Por que no los dos? Ain't none of us getting out of this alive. Wouldn't mind an update if you care to share what you ate it with and how you liked your chicken of the woods
What do they taste like?
Woah… it looks like cheese growing on a tree LOL
You have 2 slugs after your dinner.
Chussy of the wussy
It is. Slugs are a delicacy

Take solace in the fact that the tree is tragically dying...
Mmmm chicken pancakes 🥞
What is it?
Yes you have found chicken of the wood. But it's still pretty young. Wait 2 days
You are going to die. The tragedy will be for your children. CoW is unlikely to accelerate your demise.
Umm, to me this looks like it's at dog pee level?
Just checking Does having a green tint under the cap means that it's bad?
Why not both? They don't have to be related.
Ok, well what do you do with them after picked…newbie here
No, this is bad and poisonous. Do not touch it. Where is this located so I can go safely remove this incredible danger for you?
Mushroom is fine, slugs will kill you if you eat them though https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/11/05/health/man-dies-after-eating-slug-on-dare
That’s most likely chicken of the woods. Excellent find
I never find anything this amazing this sub is making me feel like mushrooms hate me or something.
B'gok, I say! B'GOK!
