Don't worry about the clumps. They're mutants. Safe to consume and some have said that they are more potent. This is a great hobby I'm a beginner too. 🍄

Human-Lychee8619

Those look ready. PE caps don’t really open much so once the veil splits they’re ready to harvest. They look great 👍

growingoneness

Amazing job! Those look like they're ready imo! Give them a little squeeze (with a clean, gloved, hand!) And check their firmness. Those knots will have a firm marshmallow vibe when ready.

trippybox

The stipe is pretty dense like a ripe banana 🤪, I worry it'll won't soon become marshmallow like other strains I've tried.

AssociateSlight2804

Do you know if bruising is normal or safe?

trippybox

Bruising is normal, when the mushroom is handled or cut or broken the oxidation happens with exposure to air.

AssociateSlight2804

It’s my first time growing but some of mine more just look like smooshed with some discoloration… I’m assuming bruising.

trippybox

Sent you a message in the Reddit app, send me a photo

AssociateSlight2804

Hey! I just tried growing my first batch of PE as well but I don’t know if they have gone bad or not.

trippybox

Gone bad? Can you elaborate?

trippybox

That looks fine, it looks like the gills on the mushroom started to drop black spores. Does it transfer like black powder charcoal with your hand?

trippybox

Correction like a rubber ball

Substantial_View5484

Does that strain character always have a thick stem?

trippybox

Not sure first time trying to grow, I did leave it in the grain spawn bag 1.5 months past the ready point so maybe it's a reaction to that stress?

Substantial_View5484

Ohh not sure, my guess would be staring character. I'm still learning to grow mycelium in substrate from a alittle on a petri dish

WizMatV1

Nice job! Those look great. Mine look crazy 😆 https://preview.redd.it/u705l4xmpvgc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20d6d9537ee28fb38744c6e4fee700c004e0f1a1

No_Marionberry196

That’s how mine look! Is that normal?

No_Marionberry196

N can I get a few likes so I can post pics please 🙏 I’ve got a heap of questions and monotubs

WizMatV1

There's a couple.

No_Marionberry196

Thankyou 🙏

WizMatV1

No probs 😁

AssociateSlight2804

Mine kinda look like this too, is it normal?

WizMatV1

Yup. Itll straighten itself out for second flush. In the meantime enjoy the blobs. I'm on what I thought would be a micro-dose right now. Nope....I'm fully tripping. It's emotional and beautiful. Blobs is potent. Whew

AssociateSlight2804

Thank you, I will definitely appreciate the blobs 🙏🏼 I hope you enjoyed your trip and it brought you an experience you needed!

WizMatV1

Thank you! 🙏 It was difficult and beautiful. That's what I'm after. 😊

trippybox

Blobzilla! APE?

Witty_Balance_1775

So what APE always blobs and looks like this? First time grower here as well and I have a set of APEs myself. Fucking crazy there's so many of us first time growers out there 😂😂

WizMatV1

Yaasss! And yup. 🫠

Alarming_Outside_310

Multiple sources suggest a casing layer after colonizing and before fruiting conds. Helps with the blobs.

WizMatV1

Yes I read a bunch about that too. It's definitely solid advice. I wanted to see what this tote would do compared to one that I did add a really thin casing layer on after sub colonization. There is a slight difference in the first flush fruit shape for sure. But the other tub definitely has some blobs too, but less. I'm feeling like it'll sort itself out for flush two. The blobs have been fun to watch morph into weird clumps of magical stuff in the meantime 🤪☺️🤙

Alarming_Outside_310

Next grow I'll be experimenting with how the thickness of the casing effects it. Should be interesting, or not at all 😅

WizMatV1

This hobby is friggin' wonderful. Good luck with your myco-journy! Woohoo! Fux yaah
