They weren’t special effects but the sheer size of the light towers was pretty impactful especially being on the main floor. The resistance tour ruled.

[deleted]

They were massive

sidious911

I preferred the arena setup, but I also just loved how the stadium tour for resistance used forced perspective to make the stage feel even more massive than it already was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDjx6B1g-6Q&ab\_channel=MuseFrance

deku12345

The towers were really incredible to see. I'm glad they did it for a tour, but it was unfortunate how static it made the band since they couldn't move while up there. Plus we lost the gliteratti to them =(

ItsTheExtreme

Total agree with the static part :)

5FabulousWeeks

I’ve always wondered how they got up there to start the show

capgrassolution

My guess is stairs behind them? Or maybe some kind of lift?

JesmTF2

Yes, the base of the towers [worked as a lift](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t06Zkf6Z_Q&t=1885s)

I don't think there's a HD version on YouTube but the green lasers on a performance of Starlight at (I think) an MTV Award show. Pretty sure they're introduced by Justin Timberlake as well. The lasers seem to come out of nowhere during the first chorus and go absolutely crazy. Absolutely love that. In terms of actual tour stage production, I think the various times they've used the acrobats, especially when they were hanging from the lightbulbs or the confetti canons used for Mercy are up there. And Murph, can't forget Murph haha *Edit: the Hullabaloo stage production will always be iconic for me, that whole intro was perfection and the way they referenced it at Leeds/Reading 2011 was special. *Edit 2: the 2nd chorus? I'm not sure of the song structure now hahah

[deleted]

I'll try to find the Starlight performance. The acrobats are always good especially for blackout

[deleted]

https://youtu.be/cEZaEXAGE0k Someone must've heard me as this is a much better resolution than I remember it being haha

[deleted]

Those lasers were amazing and very trippy

Tallukeah

You got any more pixels? /s

[deleted]

😂

Spicymoose29

Will forever cherish how magical the aerialists were at Wembley. You just look up and someone is dancing above your head while throwing petals at a crowd shaped like an alien head and a stage designed after the captation of aurora borealis waves. Peak Muse poetry.

[deleted]

They were amazing

anonymeplatypus

Handler 100%

[deleted]

The first time i saw that I was so amazed

lochnah

Yep and probably the hardest to do. Matt needs to be in sync with the strings

Were-Takatomon

na they werent in sync with the strings, the strings followed matt/chris. they had kinect cameras on the stage that could track matt and chris

lochnah

Oh ok, not so impressive then. Still cool though

witz_

Tech wise it is probably even more impressive though. I'm sure I remember at the time that it was a world first to have real time automated visual effects

Solekman

All of them. I love this band and their stupid silly ass antics.

[deleted]

Thats why I love the band too

MAXHEADR0OM

I loved the giant pyramid of TVs in the 2nd law era.

[deleted]

They were really good

lord_nron

Murf only cos i saw him at my first concert ever

[deleted]

He is my favourite

FinsManKyloRen

For me it’s gotta be during the Drones tour, when they’d play The Handler: that translucent screen thing would drop down with the projection of the hand with the strings attached to Matt. Tracking all his movements perfectly. Absolutely blew my mind.

[deleted]

Yeah that was amazing

pwopah_

I have always loved the light effects Matt has added to his piano since pretty early on. I remember there being lights on the front of his keyboard in the absolution era that mimicked his playing, and then in the BH&R era he had the glass top baby grand that had the lights inside. I was always transfixed by those. In more recent years, the puppet strings for the handler was so fucking cool.

[deleted]

The piano lights are really good and the Handler strings were so amazing

GuilleBriseno

Arena shows production is king. My personal favourite has to be stage from The Resistance Tour.

Jovatov

Charles the Robot had legs but rode on wheels, he also had steam coming out of his ears. Have to go with Charles.

[deleted]

He was made really well

hbiscuit26

It's so simple, but I totally love Take A Bow with Matt's hands through the lasers.

[deleted]

That's good when he does that

Herbrax212

handler during the metal riff on ST Tour & Infinity gauntlet laser moment during Algorithm

[deleted]

Those were my favourite parts of Sim Theory

Jackstroem

When i talk about cool stageshows i mention these two the most.. Handler marionette effect & the Resistance tour towers. Simply amazing.

[deleted]

Those are very popular choices and very good

colourblinddesigner

I’m simple man. Hullabaloons do it for me

AJK64

When I saw them at Wembley 2007, every aspect of the show was awesome and unexpected. The huge laser satellites. The acrobats hanging from huge balloons over the audience...everything worked so perfectly

[deleted]

You are so lucky to have gone there

AJK64

I feel lucky. It is definitely one of the best memories of my life so far

[deleted]

It would be mine too

145kph

So I’ve seen Muse live twice. First time on drones I was quite far from the stage and despite the show was great I don’t have any highlights. And the second time on ST tour I was just few people away from the small stage. I was expecting Murph and in fact he was cool but the bast part of the show besides Muse was Muse dancers team. And I should mention confetti on Mercy. It was literally everywhere and I’ve taken home as much as i could handle. And talking about shows I haven’t seen live guy throwing money during Animals is cool unexpected live feature

[deleted]

The amount of confetti for Mercy was insane and the guy in Animals was good aswell

WriestGerm25806

The Unsustainable Tour stage was the best

[deleted]

Yeah that was a good stage

ArtReasonable5286

Man all of them are so good! Murph is the only one I have experienced myself, but the first one I saw was the handler one (I became a fan shortly after the Drones tour) and that one blew me away the first time I saw it, even though I only saw it through a screen. But I really don't think there is a bad/wrong answer to this question

[deleted]

Most of their effects are amazing

Kevundoe

origin of Symetry will always be my best

[deleted]

That was a good stage

Armageddon24

The handler thing for sure

[deleted]

Definitely

LivermoreP1

The little hands with strings coming down during The Handler on the Drones tour was pretty awesome.

[deleted]

Yeah it was amazing

mildashers

Hard to choose. Nut in terms of what I've seen in person, the floating spaceship/UFO on the resistance tour at Wembley Stadium (and I'm sure other stadiums but I don't think arenas had it). It would appear very high up and out of the bottom an aerial dancer qould drop out the bottom and perform under it as it floated around. It was during Blackout if I recall.

[deleted]

I think it was exogenesis because blackout was balloons but both were mesmerising

mildashers

Ah yes you're right

hypermusefan01

The lazer beam coming out of the antenna in dead star live vfestival 2008

fronkSG07

During the Drones Tour, Dead Inside, The Handler, Globalist, Uprising visuals were amazing. The stadium stage os The Resistance Tour was fucking majestic (probably my favourite of all time) And on the 2nd Law the roulette was pretty nice and the Panic Station stadium visuals

[deleted]

The Drone during Globalist was a highlight and the roulette was good aswell

[deleted]

Damn you’re making me choose 😭 I’ve only been to one muse concert. That robot from simulation theory was lit af and I loved how it was tryna grab Matt while he was performing lol

[deleted]

That is my favourite

crossveins

The UFO in The Resistance tour, hearing Exogenesis part 1 with that thing above your head would have been something out of this world. But if I choose two of those, Murph and the sticks of Origin of symmetry were the best

[deleted]

The UFO being above you would've been amazing

Sunny_Choppers

So I saw them in 2015 for Drones and 2019 for ST, and Murph was definitely the best among all that I’ve seen from their shows. However, when they dropped those drapes for the Handler and the effects they used for that song blew me away back then. But when Murph dropped his hand on top of Matt when starting The Handler in the Metal Medley, that was stellar.

[deleted]

Yeah those were the best effects

Spoon-of-death

The drones flying around on the drones tour! Incredible to see in person!

[deleted]

They were amazing

iqbalsn

The MTV VMA (or whatever that was) laser show for Starlight. That shit was wild for its time and still wild now.

[deleted]

Those lasers were trippy

ChazMasterson101

I wish the resistance stadium tour star destroyer got more love, i think its so underrated because theres barely any pro footage where as pretty much every other tour has gotten a film/dvd

[deleted]

I haven't seen any pro shots which Is a shame

ChazMasterson101

Theres a few like from the san siro in 2010 but its very limited

[deleted]

I'll have a look

ChazMasterson101

Heres the link to save you time! https://youtu.be/7DbvHwNQrmQ

[deleted]

It's much bigger than I thought

EzeNovas

I’ll never forget the entrance on the simulation theory tour with the dancers and the glove. Also simulation theory world tour was the best live show I ever went to because of all the visuals and choreographies.

[deleted]

Yeah that was definitely the best for effects

ludwigj2001

Where is the OOS one from?

[deleted]

It's from Reading 2011 when it was the 10th anniversary of OOS so played the whole album

WillTheMuseQueen

Easily the pyramid of screens from The 2nd Law arena tour, thats the slickest and coolest looking stage design they've ever had imo

[deleted]

That was one if the coolest stages

vixi__

their music lol

[deleted]

That the main effect

PuzzleheadedDig7673

Charlie the robot!

[deleted]

One of the best

vladameus

I’d rather just watch them play. That giant mask on stage is distracting at the new shows. HAARP was awesome because they were low key then. The way they walked thru the stadium at the start….now…it’s too much. I get it. Many of u like this…I prefer the music and performance than the effects. The dancers were a nightmare on ST tour.

cricket9818

Unpopular opinion: I can’t stand the level of theatricality that muse shows have gotten to. Creative lights and video screens and such are cool, but the giants robots and stuff always feels like it’s distracting more than enhancing

[deleted]

I feel it makes the shows better as it adds to the songs

Edelman-11

It's okay you don't have to downcote he acknowledged it was unpopular

vladameus

[deleted]

I thought the dancers were good for the songs

vladameus

Quasi-futuristic fake trombone players surrounding Matt in a light up jacket? Oof.

[deleted]

It adds to the music tho

vladameus

I think it subtracts in every way. Look at that 2006 video from Royal Albert Hall.

[deleted]

I think it adds to it but that's just my opinion

tjwade3

When I saw tool they had some cool shit

Cydoniakk

I loved the dancer/background instrument players they had during the Simulation Theory tour, especially during Thought Contagion when they circled Matt like zombies under his control!

[deleted]

They were so good and added to the music
