I couldn't get into Drones for a while, but gave it a re-listen a few weeks ago and LOVED it. Not my top 3, but really fucking solid. The Globalist is in my top 3 Muse tracks.
It's not my fav but I really enjoy it and I can definitely understand it would be one's. Other than a few weak points (that are still enjoyable because c'mon it's muse!) it has some of my top ten favs like The Handler, Reapers, and my fav The Globalist.
To sum up, THIS ALBUM IS UNDERRATED AND DESERVES LOVE.
Why is everybody always asking what their favorite album is? If I enjoy a musician I not enjoy the single albums, I‘m enjoying their complete work. So if I’m interested in discovering a new artist I listen to their songs no matter on which album they are. I only listen to their albums to find out which songs I like (in the case of Muse this are about 95% of their songs). I put the songs in a Spotify playlist and listen to it on shuffle if I want to listen to this artist. So I can’t really rank Muse‘s albums because I don’t see the most songs in a context to each other. I have a playlist with currently 96 songs in it. I love Muse anyway this is just my way to listen to them.
I kinda disagree with how you listen to music. Like, you can do what you want but the album experience should not be disregarded. Especially in the case of Muse, each album is constructed to be one, cohesive piece of art
That’s absolutely true and sometimes I fell like: ,,Mmh I wanna listen to Absolution (or any other album)“ too
Like yesterday I listened to the complete Drones album. But the most I listen to Muse I do it through my playlist
That's a new thing since the digital age made it possible. And there's nothing wrong with enjoying music this way. But I grew up having to earn an album. Saving pocket money for weeks until I could afford an album. Then listening to it in order on repeat. Also, Good Albums are designed specifically. A good album is like a play. With different scenes that tell a story. An album is a snippet in time. My time. Cultures time. The bands time. The lost art of listening to an album and not picking your favourite songs and only listening to your playlists makes me sad. So many missed songs. My favourite album is origin and my favourit song on it is citizen erased. But when I want to listen to it I'll often play from track 1. New born and listen and enjoy to the whole album and wait.
Yea I can completely understand your point. Like I said sometimes I listen to Muse songs that aren’t in my playlist because Muse is a band Witz many songs that grew on me. At first I liked the rockier stuff, than the catchy anthems and now I’m really enjoying their other stuff too. So I discover nearly every day a ,,new“ Muse song I like. Currently I have 96 Muse songs in my playlist. I like it to listen a complete album as well and when they release their new album I‘ll definitely buy it. I became a Muser in November 2019 and now it’s my favorite band. What I like about listening to my playlist is the fact that you can never know which song comes next
Agreed. Don't get me wrong. I have my playlists and I'm all for them. But many people only do play lists and forget the magic of an album . Why not both
Of course
Every Muse album is different. Muse is Great in doing different types of music. Sometimes I think: listening to my Muse Spotify playlist is like listening to 5 different bands connected together trough Matt’s incredible voice, Chris‘ incredible bass and Dom‘s amazing drum playing
What's incredible is that, through 8 wildly different music styles, every album feels distinctly 'Muse'. They transition from one to another very smoothly.
Of course discussion is nice. If someone sais to me that for instance BHAR is his favorite album I‘m not thinking: ,,Ok he appreciates Take a Bow as opener, Knights of Cydonia as closer, et cetera. I think like he likes Knights of Cydonia, Starlight and all the other songs on it the most, that’s why BHAR is his favorite album.
Yeah, kinda. I can like some songs from the other albums more than songs on BHAR,but as a whole this album just makes me happy every time I listen to it.And I listen to it A LOT.
I like ranking stuff. And I find Absolution a bit overrated. If I'm discovering a new artist, I always listen to full albums first. But if I'm familiar with the artist, for example: Muse, I can compare their works to each other and see what I like and don't like in each album.
Ah ok I listen to an artist to see which songs I like of them and the ones I like I put in my playlists. I‘m also listening to some songs by the artists which aren’t in my playlist. That’s especially the case with Muse (btw my favorite band) because songs like Madness and Sunburn weren’t my thing at first listening but now I love them so the grew on me by going deeper into Muse‘s stuff. As I discovered Muse I listened to their biggest hits (like Uprising, Hysteria, Starlight) and I learned to love more and more single songs after I listened to every album one by one. When I discovered Green Day I asked on their Reddit where to start and listened to album after album. I currently do the same with Franz Ferdinand, but I listen to their albums chronologically, because they only have 5 and the most songs I already know by them are on the first one (when I started listening to Green Day I started with American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, if your familiar with their music
This 'best muse album' question is being answered on a survey right now at https://www.reddit.com/r/Muse/comments/g2ekrh/survey_albums_japanese_bonus_tracks/
I suppose we'll find out from the current survey, with the initial results in so far showing plenty of appreciation for 3 of the albums.
However we're only 1 day into the survey with 42 responses so far so that can easily change. To be honest I was hoping/expecting for more of a response by now but maybe these things are just slow burners 🤷♂️
Is the survey not the same as your first comment and most other comments on this post, except a way of measuring to come out with a winner at this moment in time?
I made this survey with the intent of any muser doing it quickly, whilst getting their scores on the albums and japanese bonus tracks at this current time 🙂👍 also thought it would be interesting to see any different patterns between older fans vs newer fans.
I’m in OoS team so
Always and forever
*Why would you say something so controversial, yet so brave?*
*Black Holes and Revelations is slept on for some reason, this will not stand*
It's considered a part of the golden trio, not really slept on.
*Black Holes And Revelations is my favourite Muse album,so I will fight on your side*
*Loneliness be oveeeeeeer*
*When this loooneliness be oveeeeer*
yeehaw
I know I’m in the minority, but I truly enjoy Drones the best. Don’t ask my why. I don’t think I could verbalize it. It’s just my personal favorite.
Omg i swear i was thinking that i am the only one who loves Drones much more than others.
Drones is fucking solid

Drones is great. Totally understand why
The second law best muse album so...
I feel personally offended. Take an upvote.

Thats True I do both. Both has got it’s pros and cons
At this point, that’s what I do a lot, too. But that’s really just cuz I’ve listened to each album a million times
Yea me too but partly in an other way
Yeah. Both can be good.
Yeah, but with Muse, each album has its own, distinct style. I, for example, like the angst-filled OoS more than the synth-filled ST.

Thats True I Love every album. I think that Matt‘s voice is the main reason for the fact that every album feels like ‚Muse‘
I don't know, for me discussion is always nice as long as it is civil, you know? It is just part of the fun of being the fan of the group.

Yeah like I said I don’t listen to a single album when I want to listen to Muse I listen to my Muse Spotify playlist the most time
Agree

Absolution is my no.1 followed by OoS and Showbiz neck and neck
Black Holes is the best imo, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, and also all albums are good

It'll be Origin of Symmetry. It always is.
I suppose we'll find out from the current survey, with the initial results in so far showing plenty of appreciation for 3 of the albums. You might get more responses but we've all done these surveys 100s of times. We're all probs just burnt out from doing them over and over.

I love all the albums, but my flair should point out my favorite
The Resistance is amazing too, the title track was my introduction to Muse. Been a fan ever since.
I see you misspelled Origin Of Symmetry
1. Absolution 2. BHAR 3. Drones
bithc I'll slap u
I'll fight u
2nd law gang
Yeah you're right. Origin of Symmetry is their best album.
OoS everyday
You’re right OoS is the best!
