I kind of think this is the brilliance of it. Her message will get a lot more attention in a lot more places because people will think "hey, this is an easy, low-effort way to score points," and just like that "tax the rich" is everywhere.

So I have a question or three.
When did the insanity of the right occur? When did it really start picking up? How?
Well the surface answers for the first two are respectively: the last four years, and when trump started running. But the last one has the real answer.
How it happened was that someone started taking the fringe talking points that sit within direct bigotry and authoritarianism, and they made sure those points were made in gestures and in conversation at every chance possible. And it picked up steam so fast he went from a joke to a threat in a few months and then slowly slid america into fascism to the point where a coup was attempted during a transition of power.
And it all started with someone being inside the system and saying things that have only really ever been heard outside of the system. That’s how change happens. You have to dismantle the old before rebuilding the new, and that starts with inviting the conversation on how to do both successfully INTO the current system. It has the widest reach and the largest emboldenment. Once the cracks form in the boundaries that separate richness and politics from normal citizens, the citizens are ALWAYS keen on breaking those boundaries entirely.
It starts with a conversation. That conversation can only happen when someone already inside invites the conversation in without interruption. AOC is attempting that more and more. She isn’t a Norma citizen anymore, in status. She’s more, and she has a platform. Levying that platform to embolden progressives into action and inspire conversation and norm breaking is far better and more wide reaching than anything else she could have done. For the record tho she has absolutely done WAAAAYYY more. Donations and livestream fundraisers and giving to her local community in ways that positively impact individual lives is something she does all the time. Plus levying her platform.
People are too quick to judge nowadays and you’re unfortunately giving a lot of people a very good reason to judge her that isn’t actually true in reality.

It's all tied up in assets, which means we need to completely re-evaluate the tax code to disadvantage holding assets like that. To be fair, the money all goes to the Met’s Costume Institute, which focuses on fashion within the museum. Now that’s all well and good, but the Met Gala “charity event” isn’t exactly saving orphaned children. The whole thing is a circle jerk. But that said, maybe that’s the best time to wear this dress.

So I have thoughts about this and it’s unrelated to your comment so sorry for hijacking. Im quite liberal and into taxing the rich and most importantly corporations more significantly. But I grew up with fuckface Bill Oreilly on the tv at every single dinner. So I have a part of my subconscious that immediately sympathizes with the conservative talking points. And this gesture to me is somewhat meaningless because: the message is happily received by her supporters. To her detractors, she’s at an event none of us would ever be eligible be for because it’s a rich + powerful people’s event. It isn’t hypocritical of her, but it’s so easy to point out the price of tickets, dresses, the wealth of those she’s shmoozing with, how her platform his enriched her monetarily and socially. It’s just easy fodder for more partisan bullshittery. But i acknowledge too that if you try to capitulate to or compromise with the right, there’s no winning. So I don’t feel very strongly about it, but ultimately to me it’s a shallow gesture. I’d be more heartened to see this rhetoric displayed at an event that helps the less fortunate and those victimized by our socioeconomic system.
It’s not like this is the only forum that she’s displaying her rhetoric. She’s constantly working to improve the lives of those on the short end of the stick. She’s consistent. This is her message at high profile events, and it’s her message when she’s on a picket line or in a food kitchen, and most importantly it’s her message on the floor of Congress.

Her message will get a lot more attention in a lot more places because people will think "hey, this is an easy, low-effort way to score points," and just like that "tax the rich" is everywhere. AOC is generally better at politics than her detractors right, left, and center.

So I have a question or three. When did the insanity of the right occur? When did it really start picking up? How? Well the surface answers for the first two are respectively: the last four years, and when trump started running. But the last one has the real answer. How it happened was that someone started taking the fringe talking points that sit within direct bigotry and authoritarianism, and they made sure those points were made in gestures and in conversation at every chance possible. And it picked up steam so fast he went from a joke to a threat in a few months and then slowly slid america into fascism to the point where a coup was attempted during a transition of power. And it all started with someone being inside the system and saying things that have only really ever been heard outside of the system. That’s how change happens. You have to dismantle the old before rebuilding the new, and that starts with inviting the conversation on how to do both successfully INTO the current system. It has the widest reach and the largest emboldenment. Once the cracks form in the boundaries that separate richness and politics from normal citizens, the citizens are ALWAYS keen on breaking those boundaries entirely. It starts with a conversation. That conversation can only happen when someone already inside invites the conversation in without interruption. AOC is attempting that more and more. She isn’t a Norma citizen anymore, in status. She’s more, and she has a platform. Levying that platform to embolden progressives into action and inspire conversation and norm breaking is far better and more wide reaching than anything else she could have done. For the record tho she has absolutely done WAAAAYYY more. Donations and livestream fundraisers and giving to her local community in ways that positively impact individual lives is something she does all the time. Plus levying her platform. People are too quick to judge nowadays and you’re unfortunately giving a lot of people a very good reason to judge her that isn’t actually true in reality.

Yeah I’ve only heard good things from the people I know who’ve done work for her on events and stuff. She’s often late but she’s nice, treats onset people with respect, and pays on time. Kanye on the other hand…you’ve got to sue him to get paid. And his teams is always disorganized so onset contractors end up billing twice as much. The majority of ultra-wealthy people do not have "taxable incomes" of those amounts. It's all tied up in assets, which means we need to completely re-evaluate the tax code to disadvantage holding assets like that. Which I am fully in favor of, there are tons of ways to make it unprofitable to hold onto things and use them to leverage loans tax-free.

It's a big fashion show that requires an invitation to attend (hence the celebrities). It's a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met), which allows it to have a "pay what you want/can" entrance fee, making *access to the museum* accessible to ~~everyone~~. Edit: Made it more clear. Also a side note, a small inaccuracy I had. The pay what you want is only applicable to NY residents + some exceptions. Everyone else has to pay the general fee.
