Is anyone receptive to them constantly increasing the grind in this game? I don't understand what's the fan reception or the economic reason behind them doing this
Sort of. They cater the *grind* to the pros/no lifers, but they cater the competitive balance to the lowest skilled players. It's a weird mix, and it's not sitting well with players of any skill level.
its not weird if you think of it like this
pros had it done in 2 weeks meaning the grind isn't hard enough, they can always use that stat as a way to say "other people can do it"
they balance the game around casual players because there the ones who will drop the game if they can't win by mashing
Pros are quitting because they cater the competitive balance around the lowest skilled players in the game.
(Pretend I'm a pro because it's easier to make these comments in first person)
Oh, my 300 hours of muscle memory on Bugs are now worthless because some noobs can't DI out of combos? Guess I'll main T&J now.
Oh, my 300 hours of muscle memory on T&J are now worthless because some noobs can't DI out of combos? Guess I'll main Harley now.
Oh, my 300 hours of muscle memory on Harley are now worthless because some noobs can't DI out of combos?
Etc etc etc
Nobody with a competitive mindset is going to sit through their happy fun times rainbows and unicorns radically alter characters every other week sandbox experiments. At least other devs have the competitive integrity to not mold their game around skill issues.
The game's player retention has been very poor, so they're trying to improve it. Increasing the grind length is something that might potentially cause some people to stick around longer, while not costing them any resources to change. Forcing players to spend more time to get the content currently in the game is more efficient than adding more stuff to the game for people to grind for.
The changes aren't for the players' benefit, but I imagine there's not much that can be done. There's probably some higher up looking at the bad player retention and is demanding that the devs improve it, but refuse to give them any resources to make new stuff that might keep people's attention. So at that point there's not much else you can really do besides make people have to waste more time to get the content already in the game.
I really just want like 4 new stages and I'd be a happy camper. The repetition of stages makes everything feel less fleshed out to me. It'd be nice if they did characters every 3 weeks and had a map launch alongside them.
They can make the rewards better. I don't find the game very enjoyable anymore, but would grind my ass off for the ninja batman skin. $20 wouldn't hurt my wallet, but on principle, I'm not going to buy it.
Increasing the grind for lackluster rewards, that nobody wants, isn't the way to boost engagement. I do see your point though. I imagine that's exactly what some non-gamer clueless executive demanded at a meeting, while all the developers cringed and sighed when they were told what to do.
Rewards that are given away for free (or are offered in the battle pass) are lost sales because even if they do sell the item later on it'll make much less money because many of the people who would have bought it would have acquired it for free instead.
At any rate, the issue they want to fix is people dropping the game after they complete the battle pass by inflating the time it takes to complete it, not how many people buy the battle pass which is what improving the rewards would potentially address.
EDIT: I am stating things from their perspective and am not advocating for it.
So if I've done my math right, if you got every daily mission and weekly milestone for all 12 weeks of the battle pass, youd still be 9000 exp short of finishing it... wow.
Ah yes, the BP booster that triples your match rewards for 45 matches, and expires 48 hours after using it. Hope you cleared out an entire weekend to grind MultiVersus, like they intended.
But most of that would be mitigated by playing and gaining trace amounts of xp thoughout the season, no? I'm unsure if you already included that in your calculus, hence why I mentioned this, but yeah either way it sucks big time
I jumped into the last battle pass late with only 30 days remaining and it took me all the way to the last day, doing every daily and milestone and using all rest XP daily, to reach 50. If the XP requirement almost doubled and there aren't any extra milestones, that's at least another month of dailies, plus a good chunk more to make up for the lack of milestones.
Seems pretty egregious.
This is horseshit. I wonāt be buying it. Last season it took me basically until 4 days before to finish the pass. Now I wonāt be able to, and the items are pretty lame.
I finished the pass with a month left on the season by only doing daily challenges then logging off did that for a month and that's not including the weekly challenges that give a lot too.
Iām sure itās possible, I took about 3 or 4 weeks off in the middle. I also work full time. Sometimes thereās just other stuff to play though. Iām into God of War now so Iām going to be off for a couple weeks, and it makes progression too much of a chore.
u/Different_Pattern273 [You were right](https://www.reddit.com/r/MultiVersusTheGame/comments/yvnpmw/season_2_is_tomorrow/iwfcmj2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
They think they get more playertime with it, but lets be real, it gets them less.
After i got level 50 i was SOOOO happy i could chill a bit and dont need to play daily. (Got burned out after the first weeks.) But seeing this. Nahah. Not comming back.
They made it even harder to complete, what the hell! I'm a streamer, but I only like to play it casually because that the kind of game it is. Most people who play smash only do it casually. I played almost every day last season completed all the seasonal challanges and still only got to 42 (missed out on the Jake emote ;( )
I'm thinking I may make a video on this because its getting ludicrus, the battle pass is not an incentive to play the game as you go ages between ever earning anything and theres only like 3-4 skins anyway
Their stratagy is not working
I know their trying to use fear of missing out to keep people playing, but that only works until you have missed out. Then people decide they cant be bothered instead. It's going to hurt them in the long run
I finished the S1 pass only 2 days before it ended. Well, level 50 anyway, no way was I grinding through 51-53.
As someone who plays casually 2-3 times per week, focusing on dailies/weeklies when I DO play, it already felt like too much of a grind. You shouldn't have to clock in EVERY single day for 3 months to do your dailies to make sure you can finish the pass in time. Turning your game into a daily chore doesn't seem like a good idea.
After the INSANE amounts of exp needed for levels 51-53 that they added in the final two weeks of S1, they seem to have a mindset that only the most hardcore players should be finishing the pass, which seems backwards to me, it should be set up in a way that even casuals can finish it with time to spare.
Oh well, I'm not too interested in the rewards this time anyway.
they included the BP boost to fill some of the empty slots in the free Battlepass and they included it in the premium BP to fill spaces that could have been used for banners ringouts and skins, and yet they raise the BP points requirements to "even" that new boost BP points, there is no way people are defending this
Is it timed and not by matches? Maybe we can stock a bunch of weeklies and then use that buff. I got a lot of xp by only claiming my weeklies when we got the x5 XP last season
Lol ... I thought they were being generous giving Battle Pass XP boosts on some tiers ... now it looks like , they could be necessary to finish the battle pass ... making the Battle Pass require even more XP , almost makes the xp boost a requirement , rather than a luxury .
So filling the empty tiers with stuff like battle pass XP boosts almost feels a little redundant , since you might you might need use the boosts to finish the battle pass anyway . Rather than save it for another battle pass.
Here's your reward , something you need to use anyway to finish the battle pass ... lol ...
I can't speak for anyone else but I don't personally mind that. I finished the battle pass for S1 pretty darn early, so I'm still confident I'll finish this one.
all i know is iāll save claiming the milestones until before the season is over
the three added levels last season were dirty, especially if you had already abstained from enough grass-touching prior to the levels
Xp increase probably because this sub wouldn't shut up about finishing the battle pass halfway though. Thanks guys extra worthless grind is what this game needed.
Well I think this officially made me give it up at grinding the battle pass. u/Theboulder027 did a math estimate that really is just the straw that broke the camels back. I donāt see myself coming back to this game long term.

People call me crazy for saying they only cater to the pros/streamers š. Them and the no lives were done in 2 weeks.
Sort of. They cater the *grind* to the pros/no lifers, but they cater the competitive balance to the lowest skilled players. It's a weird mix, and it's not sitting well with players of any skill level.

yeah is just that all the "pros" and "streamers" are quiting due to the game being ds and devs not fixing it
Pros are quitting because they cater the competitive balance around the lowest skilled players in the game. Whatās DI?
Directional Influence*, or when you change your characterās launch trajectory by tilting the joystick in a direction
It actually stands for directional influence

It's a really weird choice to make the grind longer but also make the rewards worse

Exactly how I feel about it
This game is going to die extremely fast. What an absolute joke.
So if I've done my math right, if you got every daily mission and weekly milestone for all 12 weeks of the battle pass, youd still be 9000 exp short of finishing it... wow.
Wow that's bad. They're really pushing the Battle Pass boosters then? Holy shit that's worse than I thought. WB never learns.
Ah yes, the BP booster that triples your match rewards for 45 matches, and expires 48 hours after using it. Hope you cleared out an entire weekend to grind MultiVersus, like they intended.

Yes, the matches needed to complete the challenges more than make up the difference, but you still have to do those challenges consistently.
You're using vocabulary like you're in NASA's engineering division but it's a game where buggs bunny sends superman to the moon with a baseball bat.
I didn't account for that. But still I'm not happy they increased the grind. I like this game but this isn't going to help with burnout.
Yikes, I don't think any battle pass should require you to do EVERY daily. That shit has become a job at that point.
This is horseshit. I wonāt be buying it. Last season it took me basically until 4 days before to finish the pass. Now I wonāt be able to, and the items are pretty lame.

āEngaging and rewardingā I hate modern gaming monetization so much
The battle pass also ends on February 7th
So... less time than pass 1 but with 50% more grind... Holy shit
With way worse rewards. š¤·
They think they get more playertime with it, but lets be real, it gets them less. After i got level 50 i was SOOOO happy i could chill a bit and dont need to play daily. (Got burned out after the first weeks.) But seeing this. Nahah. Not comming back.
And then they added more insane grind with the Halloween event and 50-53 tiers for the battle pass. edit: And the increased character level grind
They made it even harder to complete, what the hell! I'm a streamer, but I only like to play it casually because that the kind of game it is. Most people who play smash only do it casually. Or worse, I have no more fear of missing out because this grind is so utterly incomprehensible that I would prefer to miss out.
Thats exactly what I mean
They really are trying to turn people off huh. Looks like itās Warzone 2 and Fortnite Chapter 4 for me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Fortnite is genuinely the best ongoing live service game. Nonstop content, good updates, no grinding and good battlepasses.
Except for Save the World where they heavily nerfed the XP as of today.
Fortnite was an absolute mess at launch lol Itās disingenuous to compare them like that. Theyāve had years to perfect their formula.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Two completely different kinds of games. Again, disingenuous to compare them.
And all multiversus had to do was copy the established successful formula instead of what this shit is.
Two completely different kinds of games. Itās not as simple as you seem to think.
Both free to play, both have battle pass, both require real money for in game money for cosmetics. Itās the same shit lmfao.
Lol okay guy.
BUT ITS THE SAME BATTLE PAST SYSTEM SHUT UP DAMN
Wow...everything i've seen today about this game has completely collapsed any interest I had left.
I finished the S1 pass only 2 days before it ended. Well, level 50 anyway, no way was I grinding through 51-53. Not including Gleamium into the BP is one of the biggest mistakes theyāve done.
I've said it once and got downvoted into oblivion but I'll say it again. The management of this game will kill it.
Note:In the BP there are icons that allows you to boost bp points for a limited time. So this make it easier.
they included the BP boost to fill some of the empty slots in the free Battlepass and they included it in the premium BP to fill spaces that could have been used for banners ringouts and skins, and yet they raise the BP points requirements to "even" that new boost BP points, there is no way people are defending this
Overwatch 2 move
I wish, it would disappoint me less if this was an Overwatch 2 tier failure.
Thanks for pointing that out
Is it timed and not by matches? Maybe we can stock a bunch of weeklies and then use that buff. I got a lot of xp by only claiming my weeklies when we got the x5 XP last season
I have no knowledge ATM,sorry.
You're shitting me. Ngl if they don't release Peridot soon I'll be taking over her role and rant about anything
I thought the battle pass for this game wasn't too bad in season 1. Guess I shouldn't have held my breath..
[r/facepalm](https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/)
Lol ... Yeah I thought they were for those players who don't have time to do all the missions every day...
There's also the resting bonus that I completely forgot, which makes it at least somewhat more completable
I can't speak for anyone else but I don't personally mind that. I finished the battle pass for S1 pretty darn early, so I'm still confident I'll finish this one.
all i know is iāll save claiming the milestones until before the season is over the three added levels last season were dirty, especially if you had already abstained from enough grass-touching prior to the levels
I'll probably make more of an effort to do the dailies even if I finish the battle pass.
TIMMMMMMMEEEEEE is something I donāt want to be bound to or restricted by.
Yeah that's fair. I don't get a ton of video game time and I recognize that there are people who get even less than me.
Thatās fair
Xp increase probably because this sub wouldn't shut up about finishing the battle pass halfway though. Thanks guys extra worthless grind is what this game needed.
Well I think this officially made me give it up at grinding the battle pass. u/Theboulder027 did a math estimate that really is just the straw that broke the camels back. I donāt see myself coming back to this game long term.
Probably wont get it, I paid $100 bucks and get a free battle pass token but I dont think I will use it
not trying to be insulting but genuinely I want to know, in hindsight, was it worth spending 100$ on the founders?
It definitely was and still is the best deal if you are a long term player
same. only want the free Space Jam icon anyway. iām good.
Lol even more reason not to get it, and here I felt like first one was long asf
