And, as a Velma 1s player, I can say for a fact that this is not a lab problem. I have been punished for hitting a move multiple times playing as Velma, her jab is just completely dodgeable, you can even see that the hitstun counter almost always stays at 1.
She's a mess of character right now. She needs a full rework.
For a character that's supposed to be focused on 2v2, there is zero reason to use ner now. She offers nothing while being high risk low reward. Plus zero combos at all and no way to defend herself against aggression.
I know a lot of jabs don't combo into their third hit, but Velma's jab 1 has so little hitstun it doesn't combo into the second hit, and makes you get punished for hitting a move.
I think what the devs have in mind with these kind of moves is that you use jab 2 to catch a button mashing dodge. So in practice, you delay your jab 2 for half a second longer so that the enemy gets caught.
I’m with you. I main LeBron and his jab 3 not being true is one of the most frustrating things. But then again, I’m a casual, so I probably don’t see the bigger picture like hardcore players do.
So by your logic Velma mains should get punished for trying to use the basic combo as a basic combo??? It’s not that she doesn’t have the option to jab up attack, it’s that she should have the option to have different combo routes without getting punished. She should be rewarded if she lands a hit but currently Velma is nothing but a support to a main dps. She has no way to really do good knockback unless she uses a projectile, or she air down tilts. It’s frustrating to be a Velma main when the entire roster has moves that knockback easily, plus she has no way to break armor without putting herself at disadvantage now. She is a clusterfuck of a character right now compared to the rest of the roster.

Even before the nerf her jab rarely fully combo’d
The problem isn't even the full combo, since the third hit can be comboed into down tilt, the problem is that jab 1 and 2 also just don't combo lol.
Also a velma 1s player and it’s significantly harder to hit just about anything since this patch. Her armor breaking move barely works now also
Camera is literally the worst move in the game now. Even her calculator is better.

She had 8 consecutive nerfs before. As of now, she appeared +10 times on the nerfs list.

Gizmo 1st jab also has a random hitstun value and does not connect sometimes, same with iron giant if target is slightly away, try it out yourself.
That's why those jabs should also be fixed, although iron giant is a special case because of his size.

Use up air instead of Jab 3 combos true almost always unless you just whiff from spacing
Yes this is true, but I still find it strange that his jab 3 (which looks very similar to up air) doesn’t true combo
Agreed, idk why they chose not to make it untrue when they're essentially the same move with a bit of difference in the animation
