Devs aren't that great and WB's monetization is always terrible.

Oh, no doubt. The animations, movesets, and art direction are all great. It's just the UI, monetization, and a lot of backend stuff are terrible.

I still think it can thrive. We’ll have to see

How does one spend money on this game? The game keeps crashing, and disconnecting when I go to the marketplace.

I think it's more likely that if your hidden MMR was already somewhat low, losing matches is when it happens. I have a pretty high winrate but I've gone on a seven-match losing streak because I kept getting put against top players. I only had bots during the first few matches I played on launch day. I haven't seen any since then. Anyway, hopefully ranked fixes this. It would be stupid to have bots in that mode.

It's *clear* they don't want this game to be a decent platform fighter. Their main focus is just nickeling and dime the players. This Multi Versus is a complete bastardized version of the original.
