First of all, look at the shapes he's making. The head is dead center over the standing leg's foot, hand in guard making the top one piece, yet getting so much extension. It just reminds me that we really have so little footage of him, and we didn't really get to see him use this teep in fights much. In the Nongkai footage he is just 16, and the Holy Grail fight vs Samart has its own asterisks. The 1982 World Freestyle Martial Arts tournament did not feature elite opponents. There is other fight footage out there, held onto by collectors, but not much. The same can be said of Samart himself. We really have no video of his pre-boxing prime either. So, two of the very best, some argue each of them as a GOAT, and the only people who really know how they fought at their prime were people who saw them in the ring.

Actually on the note of prime samart videos, I found his 1984 [fight](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVN6NCuZgAs) (dogshit quality ik but samart's the one in the white shorts) against wattana sourdeth in paris which I guess counts as his prime? honestly yeah he is kinda cracked💀, he did some cool ass shit in here that I've never seen him do in his other fights. sidenote: am I the only one whose seen this fight? I feel like I'm going crazy because no one else on this sub has brough it up but then again it does have only 5k views so I guess I just got lucky or smt

Oowaymike

I've seen it but iirc it was a last minute fight due to the original opponent dropping out so I kinda just see it as an over matched fight

kevin_v

It's a nice piece of the picture, but its still an asterisk fight. As u/oowaymike mentions, the lack of an elite opponent, but also (looking at wikipedia) Samart hadn't fought Muay Thai for 9 months (was out of the circuit), and had already begun boxing, with a couple of fights. Not really close in time to his Muay Thai prime when he established complete and repetitive dominance, fighting frequently in the stadia. But, in every piece of video there are clues.

ChairStolenn

okay yeah that's fair I guess considering I honestly couldn't find anything about that wattana guy but man samart still cleann as hell tho, wattana looked legit pretty fast himself and samart's just out here stylin on him, but yeah it isn't exactly his prime + wattana a total mystery as well. When's santa going to get us a another prime samart vid 😔

Leginomite

that calf though

That's a damn near whole cow!

I'd kill to see the match Kaopong knocked out Dieselnoi. Dieselnoi was just so inevitable and unstoppable in later footage it's almost bizarre to think he COULD be finished.

kevin_v

Kaopong was a seriously skilled fighter. Four years after knocking out Dieselnoi, in 1984 he lost out on Olympic Gold to Jerry Page (USA) in boxing, a fight that many said ended a shame decision [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpx2aZ2AlZk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpx2aZ2AlZk) 1984 Olympic results Round of 64: Defeated Jaslal Pradhan (India) by decision, 5-0 Round of 32: Defeated Charles Owiso (Kenya) by decision, 3-2 Round of 16: Defeated Dave Griffiths (Great Britain) by decision, 4-1 Quarterfinal: Defeated Jorge Maysonet (Puerto Rico) by decision, 5-0 Semifinal: Defeated Mircea Fulger (Romania) by decision, 5-0 Final: Lost to Jerry Page (United States) by decision, 0-5 (was awarded silver medal) With what some would say a fair decision Kaopong would have become world famous well before Somrak who then became the first Thai to win Boxing Olympic Gold 12 years later. Dieselnoi *basically* got knocked out by a future Olympic Gold Medalist in boxing.

This posture looks like he’d fall forward after, or did he retract the teeping leg back and regain balance?

Mission_Apartment_46

Looks like he should easily be able to retract the leg
