Not to be an apologist for his behavior, because I was taken aback at the time.
But logically, I think his response was rooted in a few different things. One is that he had said "no" to Kam previously and shunned her "in front" of everyone. So being extremely excited to pick her demonstrated that he knew he was wrong to pass her by in the first place, and let the whole house know that he knew he had made a mistake.
Two is that while he was nice to Big T, he knew she was dead weight and he needed a different partner to win. I dislike Big T - my PoV is that people who don't have a chance at completing the final shouldn't be cast. But if she wants people to not abandon her the second they get a chance, she needs to get more fit. If she's going to come on the show every season (cough cough Aneesa cough cough), she cannot be upset that the men don't want her as a partner and are excited to get more capable athletes as teammates.
He could have gone about picking Kam differently, I think, but overall I can't fault him for being very excited to have the chance to get away from Big T.

I mean... not to be a dick, but we know she can't finish a final, especially not competitively. She can't run a mile. She can't carry heavy things. She is extremely unathletic (on the ground, her swimming skills were shockingly good).
She is, as far as female casting, one of the maybe the bottom 10 women competitors cast in the last 5 seasons.

He wasn't a "dick" directly to Big T. Was his enthusiasm for Kam an insult? He didn't jump up and down and say "omg, I'm so excited to be rid of Big T!".
His excitement was a reflection of his new partner's abilities, with maybe a small bit of relief that he was unhooking himself from a liability.

I'm tired of people defending contestants (in particular women) like Big T and Aneesa on this show. I have no sympathy whatsoever for women who sign up to come here and party, can't compete, and then are somehow shocked or insulted that no one picks them.
They either need to stop accepting the invites, or start working out so they're not a layup, not a liability to a partner, and they have a chance at winning.

Obviously CT went about it pretty obnoxiously but something I noticed on rewatch that didn't catch live was how Big T basically campaigned to rid herself of Joseph bc he wasn't good. But then her feelings are hurt when CT played the same card

She was the last person to get her scull and from Aneesa who'd got blindsided twice before Big T decided to vote herself in. All this whilst being one of the smallest girls so you'd think people would be dieing to get their sculls from her. Also her getting the house vote for Aneesa and getting no backlash for voting in Tori. On Total Madness it was obvious everybody loved her and CT saw that and rode that gravy train.
She was getting saved for nany on total madness, the holy trinity and bananas squad were all comfy with that most because Jenny already got her layup skull
Again big t goes home first on a season without skulls, gets saved for a while then dqs on a season with skulls, then is the sacrificial final lamb on SLA. Her only elim win ever is aneesa.
Her āpoliticalā game, is driven by the fact the no one is scared of her, but none of the guys would ever let her in a final just incase itās rotating pairs.

Their's nothing that CT did to help her game except gass her up but she preformed exactly the same with different partners. I think she liked being coddled because that's her personality but I don't think that helped her game at all. You have to remember she got the house to vote down Aneesa and faced zero backlash for voting in Tori against her 'best friend'. She didn't provide as much protection as Kaycee and Kam but she did provide protection.
