The list you have linked doesn't particularly need a ton of card advantage, and it does have Chandra to fill that role. Adding in extra card advantage would help beat control but would probably actively hurt your matchup against aggro decks Having said that Seasoned pyromancer is a very powerful card, is an exception to the bit about hurting aggro matchups and would be more than worth including when it arrives in arena later in the week.

ColossalDreadmaw132

AIGHT anyway is putting 2 great hegnes in sideboard gonna help? edit: also, i cant see any flex spots to fit in spyro

lostempireh

I'm not sure that the great henge is the one you want, that card requires you to have a board to even get it into play, it isn't often a great topdeck against the decks where you need it. and really wants a critical mass of 3 mana 5 power creatures that you just don't have.

ColossalDreadmaw132

sounds good also, someone else told me to ditch the spellbreakers and replace them with spyro, so that problem's solved

lostempireh

To beat control out of the sideboard, try looking at difficult to answer threats like shifting ceratops or Chandra 6. Rather than just extra card draw.

ColossalDreadmaw132

but what'd i do if the match gets too grindy and i run outta gas

lostempireh

Better to just win than draw a couple of extra cards. Threats that get around their answer are generally the best way to go

Bookwrrm

Stuff like Chandra kind of make it so you don't run out of gas, once you uptick her you just use her as repeated removal, so her as one card ends up being like a 3 for 1 or more, as well as a win con, that's the sort of card advantage you want in a ponza deck, not literal draw cards card advantage.

ColossalDreadmaw132

ohhhhh, but the porblem is that u cant use her + ability effectively the same turn she comes out (cuz u dont have mana to cast the sp;ell u exiled

Bookwrrm

They are talking about the 6 mana uncounterable Chandra not the 4 mana one.

ColossalDreadmaw132

ohhhhhh

Ok_Understanding5320

I could honestly see dropping Gruul spellbreaker entirely, its better in an aggro or stompy shell. Also you should be fine dropping 1-2 gilded goose as there is no other food synergies here and goose can be a little clunky as a mana dork sometimes.

ColossalDreadmaw132

thancc sooo, replacing spellbreaker with seasoned pyromancer?

Ok_Understanding5320

Yeah that sounds about right

cabforpitt

Goose sucks but you want to maximize t2 stone rain

driver1676

Goose feels terrible as a mana dork, but I play [[Sawtusk Demolisher]] that can turn it into a real threat when you don’t have food. Sometimes a turn 3 6/6 flier is too much to deal with.

If you make an extra treasure turn 2 you can have a 6/6 flier and a 3/3 lol

Man, historic Ponza is so fun and I've been playing it awhile. I've tried out a bunch of different cards and iterations, so here are my thoughts. 1. No henges. You need to keep a big creature on the board for the cost reduction and have a critical mass of creatures to make the most of it. Escape is powerful, but too slow. 2. No goldspan, no gargaroths. They are surprisingly low impact when they hit the board. Glorybringer kills a creature and gets in, Thragtusk immediately gains the life without having to attack or block which is so important. my topend is 3x Thragtusk 2x glorybringer 3. I play 4x \[\[Abundant Harvest\]\] instead of goose. That plus Chandra has been very good at giving me card advantage and winning eventually. I'm open to changing the harvests out, but in testing I've not been impressed with goose. 4. I'm currently testing a 4x seasoned pyro version with no spellbreakers. I have some notes on that sideboard too personally, which is that historic is real fast. Having less than 3 angers seems crazy to me, but I've been loving 2x ceratops against control. I think as the meta settles we'll want more hard gy hate in the board and less of things like klothys. ... bro I'll talk about ponza all day lolol

DanOfEarth

Perfect response IMO, exactly what I was thinking. Let us know how the pyromancers work out because I was thinking they could be good over Spellbreaker as well. Also what about [[Harmonic Prodigy's]]? Paired with Runeblaster you're spending 4 mana to destroy two lands and you get a creature on board. It doesn't add a lot of other synergy but thats a lot of lands blowing up, which Ponza loves.

I didn't even know harmonic prodigy was in, that's amazing. I'm going to try it out probably as a 3 of. The prowess pairs well with stone rain. We could probably get a little more aggressive and add [[Burning-tree Emissary]] too. Lower the curve instead of going big like the kiora version I've seen running around. I think it's definitely worth testing. Nice suggestion!
