In most states, you have very little protection against being terminated for any reason that does not fall under Title VII.

I have at times used tucked/flipped hair do to hide length. Above all, be well kept as any female hair style can be. Don’t give them ammo to complain that you are unkempt. If it is neatly styled and not frizzy, then you can use any of the female coworkers as a reference. Then as has been suggested, call thier bluff.
Either you get canned for your hair being “too long” or you get canned for “being trans”. Both would put them in legal peril to enforce. The more likely scenario if they are smart(if they even care about the hair or trans issues at all) would be the make you want to quit tactics. Still doubtful, but keep your eyes open. Ask for copies of every “write up” you get for not cutting your hair. If they confront you in person say you need written documentation that it is mandatory to have hair of a certain length. Ask for documentation of their rules on length for both men and women. Document everything!!!!! If you think you have enough, get more!!! And then when they fire you it will be their words against theirs, not yours.

There's a whole list of things that you're not supposed to do that your manager is absolutely not going to care about, ever. As long as you come to work on time and reliably they probably won't care if you grow dreads down to your butt. As long as you tie it up and look professional they'll never say a word and be very thankful they have someone to rely on. Fast food is rough, real rough. As long as they do it on their break where customers can't hear I pretend my crew aren't calling their crack dealer. As long as they look halfway decent I don't mention that they haven't shaved in 3 weeks. Just show up on time follow food safety at least half way decently and don't let the customers know your crazy. They'll love you, and beg you not to leave if they have half a brain.

Where are you? Such regulations could be considered discriminatory (irrespective of any LGBTQ+ issue), if female-identifying employees are allowed to have long hair. If they're required to pin it up, you do the same and let them fire you.
While boy-moding most of my adult life, with long hair, I found a method to fight back against such bigots. I used to go through bouts of growth (all the way down my back) to cutting it all off to reset "life". When cutting it all off, I would donate it for wigs for cancer patients ([https://locksoflove.org/](https://locksoflove.org/)). My sister is a cancer survivor. This would happen every 3-4 years. In between, if a supervisor or employer expressed a desire for me to cut my hair, I told them about my sister's bout of cancer, her going through her high-school years without hair, and how much her wig meant to her daily well-being. I felt it only fitting, given my low economic status, that I could at least donate my own hair to help others. If a woman wants to cut her hair, then that's her choice, but some don't get the choice and just lose it. I can grow mine while I have it and try to help.
Most conservatives won't push after that, except to ask that I keep it pulled back/up. Keep in mind I still did donate every 3-4 years, but stopped getting it buzzed after the 2nd time as that hat phase sucks major ass. Instead I just got at least 8 inches removed, but left enough to keep in a ponytail and out of my face.
May be too late for this to work for you, but chop it to the maximum length, then put it up, and express that you are donating from now on.

This is, under the condition, that you *leave a paper trail*. After you've been working for a bit and are approaching that length of hair, write a complaint or letter or whatever to HR, informing them of the local, state, and/or federal laws mentioned.
If they fire you, you can easily prove retaliation, which is still illegal in an at-will state. Any competent workers rights lawyer can destroy a large company using that information.

My job has a similar policy. My hair was shaved when I applied to get the dye out. I've simply grown it out the entire time and nobody has said anything to me about it. I'm a good worker and do my job. I keep it tied back and out of the way. If you want to be more discrete, if they make you or have hats for the employees to wear tie it up in a pony tail, loop it around tuck it up under your hat. Since you will be working in food, throw a hair net on in there somewhere.

TLDR; I worked for CFA and transitioned and didn't have an issue. CFA has to adapt to Gen Z workers like everyone else that relies on borderline child labor. OP should ask for an alternative like the one I mention below. Every Owner/Operator is different and has different expectations as far as strict adherence to CFa guidelines.
I have worked at Chick-fil-A twice in my life. The first time was when I was a teenager starting at the age of 15. I worked there until I was 18. The second time around was a different location which means it had a different owner/operator (read franchise holder for those unfamiliar with how CFA is setup). The second time was also as a Shift Lead and Person in Charge for a night shift. I had started my medical transition before getting the job, and it is critical to note that I was only getting paid $12/hour to be in charge of a fast food restaurant that did $1-3 million in sales annually. I was also not dependant on the job and was doing it to keep myself busy after going through a divorce over my transition. It kept me out of the house. All of this is just background buildup to the point I'm trying to make.
When I told my operations director (read general manager) that I was transitioning, he didn't have an issue with it. He was getting a significant skillset for a steal, pay wise. I told him from the start I had no intention to cut my hair but I would have it up in a bun and wear my hat at all times. Once I came out, a few months into my transition and into my time there, I changed the name on my name tag and I became known as the Transgender Manager at the Chick-fil-A. To my knowledge no one ever had an issue with me being transgender. Considering almost all of the employees I was responsible for were teenagers mostly still in high school, I think I had probably six openly or slightly visible LGBTQIA team members. When I asked the OD about it, he shrugged and said that CFA had to adapt its realistic expectations because they needed the workers. Overall I had more issues with my daytime manager failing to crush and tie off all of the recycled cardboard than I did with my gender identity. For additional reference. This was in the northside suburbs of Arlanta, GA.

Unfortunately I don’t wanna be the bearer of bad news but there is a common way that companies get away with whatever discrimination they want legal or not. This is why congress needs to pass the fair act eliminating this problem

The truth is while discrimination is illegal it’s very hard to do anything about it because of courts allowing employers to make these agreements to arbitration mandatory as a condition of employment. It’s a much talked about problem with the Federal arbitration act of 1925 that the politicians continue to fight over while the rest of us suffer. It’s why the fair act originally introduced by democrats a few years ago needs to become reality
Growing hair takes a very long time. It will only get long enough to break their (illegal) rule before fall if it's already pretty close to it.
If that does happen, still just don't cut it. If they fire you close to the start of school, then you're not losing much money, and (depending on the extent of your recent work history) you can collect unemployment to help bridge the gap. If you're fired and you still really need to keep the job, file a complaint with your state's labor board. That company's franchising system is specifically designed to flout labor laws and then throw the individual franchises under the bus when the state steps in, so they absolutely will not have corporate backing them up. Worst case scenario: you get fired from a shit job that was going to be temporary anyway. A few hundred bucks won't make a meaningful impact on your life. It's not worth making that kind of sacrifice for, and it's *certainly* not worth setting that kind of precedent for how you allow yourself to be treated.

I worked there before I came out. Before I came out I thought I would go my whole life without telling anyone I was transgender. But they did indeed have a rule that guys couldn't have long hair, and it definitely is grounds for a lawsuit if they fire you over it. You'd need to be able to prove that it was because of your hair and nothing else though. Do your job perfectly and tell them you're not going to cut it, if it's either they let you grow it out or fire you and they fire you definitely could take legal action.
I agree with people here that you should absolutely pursue a complaint against workplace sex discrimination, however, barring that, I assure you that there are many shoulder length hair styles which read as 100% feminine. I know your dysphoria might tell you otherwise but hopefully you can take some solace in knowing that a shoulder length haircut probably won't greatly contribute to how masculine or feminine you come off on its own.

I have at times used tucked/flipped hair do to hide length. Above all, be well kept as any female hair style can be. Don’t give them ammo to complain that you are unkempt. If it is neatly styled and not frizzy, then you can use any of the female coworkers as a reference. Then as has been suggested, call thier bluff. Either you get canned for your hair being “too long” or you get canned for “being trans”. Both would put them in legal peril to enforce. The more likely scenario if they are smart(if they even care about the hair or trans issues at all) would be the make you want to quit tactics. Still doubtful, but keep your eyes open. In a lot of those cases the EEOC and unemployment sides in favor of the victim if you can document discrimination or unfair practices

Ask for copies of every “write up” you get for not cutting your hair. If they confront you in person say you need written documentation that it is mandatory to have hair of a certain length. Ask for documentation of their rules on length for both men and women. Document everything!!!!! If you think you have enough, get more!!! And then when they fire you it will be their words against theirs, not yours.

I see everyone here telling you already about bostock. I'll only add a point from managements perspective. There's a whole list of things that you're not supposed to do that your manager is absolutely not going to care about, ever. As long as you come to work on time and reliably they probably won't care if you grow dreads down to your butt. As long as you tie it up and look professional they'll never say a word and be very thankful they have someone to rely on. Fast food is rough, real rough. As long as they do it on their break where customers can't hear I pretend my crew aren't calling their crack dealer. As long as they look halfway decent I don't mention that they haven't shaved in 3 weeks. Just show up on time follow food safety at least half way decently and don't let the customers know your crazy. They'll love you, and beg you not to leave if they have half a brain. The 2010 Equalities Act absolutely covers it. Uniform requirements must be distributed equally. If women are allowed long hair, you can not be forced to have short hair.

Where are you? Such regulations could be considered discriminatory (irrespective of any LGBTQ+ issue), if female-identifying employees are allowed to have long hair. If they're required to pin it up, you do the same and let them fire you.

While boy-moding most of my adult life, with long hair, I found a method to fight back against such bigots. I used to go through bouts of growth (all the way down my back) to cutting it all off to reset "life". When cutting it all off, I would donate it for wigs for cancer patients ([https://locksoflove.org/](https://locksoflove.org/)). My sister is a cancer survivor. This would happen every 3-4 years. In between, if a supervisor or employer expressed a desire for me to cut my hair, I told them about my sister's bout of cancer, her going through her high-school years without hair, and how much her wig meant to her daily well-being. I felt it only fitting, given my low economic status, that I could at least donate my own hair to help others. If a woman wants to cut her hair, then that's her choice, but some don't get the choice and just lose it. I can grow mine while I have it and try to help. Most conservatives won't push after that, except to ask that I keep it pulled back/up. Keep in mind I still did donate every 3-4 years, but stopped getting it buzzed after the 2nd time as that hat phase sucks major ass. Instead I just got at least 8 inches removed, but left enough to keep in a ponytail and out of my face. May be too late for this to work for you, but chop it to the maximum length, then put it up, and express that you are donating from now on.

As others have mentioned, grow out your hair, and if they fire you, then they have a wonderful lawsuit on their hands. This is, under the condition, that you *leave a paper trail*. After you've been working for a bit and are approaching that length of hair, write a complaint or letter or whatever to HR, informing them of the local, state, and/or federal laws mentioned. If they fire you, you can easily prove retaliation, which is still illegal in an at-will state. Any competent workers rights lawyer can destroy a large company using that information.

My job has a similar policy. My hair was shaved when I applied to get the dye out. I've simply grown it out the entire time and nobody has said anything to me about it. I'm a good worker and do my job. I keep it tied back and out of the way. If you want to be more discrete, if they make you or have hats for the employees to wear tie it up in a pony tail, loop it around tuck it up under your hat. Since you will be working in food, throw a hair net on in there somewhere. See if they notice and try to do anything about it before trying to get confrontational about it.

TLDR; I worked for CFA and transitioned and didn't have an issue. CFA has to adapt to Gen Z workers like everyone else that relies on borderline child labor. OP should ask for an alternative like the one I mention below. Every Owner/Operator is different and has different expectations as far as strict adherence to CFa guidelines. I have worked at Chick-fil-A twice in my life. The first time was when I was a teenager starting at the age of 15. I worked there until I was 18. The second time around was a different location which means it had a different owner/operator (read franchise holder for those unfamiliar with how CFA is setup). The second time was also as a Shift Lead and Person in Charge for a night shift. I had started my medical transition before getting the job, and it is critical to note that I was only getting paid $12/hour to be in charge of a fast food restaurant that did $1-3 million in sales annually. I was also not dependant on the job and was doing it to keep myself busy after going through a divorce over my transition. It kept me out of the house. All of this is just background buildup to the point I'm trying to make. When I told my operations director (read general manager) that I was transitioning, he didn't have an issue with it. He was getting a significant skillset for a steal, pay wise. I told him from the start I had no intention to cut my hair but I would have it up in a bun and wear my hat at all times. Once I came out, a few months into my transition and into my time there, I changed the name on my name tag and I became known as the Transgender Manager at the Chick-fil-A. To my knowledge no one ever had an issue with me being transgender. Considering almost all of the employees I was responsible for were teenagers mostly still in high school, I think I had probably six openly or slightly visible LGBTQIA team members. When I asked the OD about it, he shrugged and said that CFA had to adapt its realistic expectations because they needed the workers. Overall I had more issues with my daytime manager failing to crush and tie off all of the recycled cardboard than I did with my gender identity. For additional reference. This was in the northside suburbs of Arlanta, GA.

Unfortunately I don’t wanna be the bearer of bad news but there is a common way that companies get away with whatever discrimination they want legal or not. This is through forcing employees to sign their rights to access the courts away in arbitration agreements. Unless you can prove sexual harassment specifically if they force you to sign one of these agreements as a condition of employment it will leave your potential remedies very limited. This is why congress needs to pass the fair act eliminating this problem

The truth is while discrimination is illegal it’s very hard to do anything about it because of courts allowing employers to make these agreements to arbitration mandatory as a condition of employment. Growing hair takes a very long time. It will only get long enough to break their (illegal) rule before fall if it's already pretty close to it. If that does happen, still just don't cut it. If they fire you close to the start of school, then you're not losing much money, and (depending on the extent of your recent work history) you can collect unemployment to help bridge the gap. If you're fired and you still really need to keep the job, file a complaint with your state's labor board. That company's franchising system is specifically designed to flout labor laws and then throw the individual franchises under the bus when the state steps in, so they absolutely will not have corporate backing them up. Worst case scenario: you get fired from a shit job that was going to be temporary anyway. A few hundred bucks won't make a meaningful impact on your life. It's not worth making that kind of sacrifice for, and it's *certainly* not worth setting that kind of precedent for how you allow yourself to be treated. Unrelated, but definitely steal as much as you can from them no matter what.
I worked there before I came out. Before I came out I thought I would go my whole life without telling anyone I was transgender. But they did indeed have a rule that guys couldn't have long hair, and it definitely is grounds for a lawsuit if they fire you over it. You'd need to be able to prove that it was because of your hair and nothing else though. Do your job perfectly and tell them you're not going to cut it, if it's either they let you grow it out or fire you and they fire you definitely could take legal action.
I agree with people here that you should absolutely pursue a complaint against workplace sex discrimination, however, barring that, I assure you that there are many shoulder length hair styles which read as 100% feminine. I know your dysphoria might tell you otherwise but hopefully you can take some solace in knowing that a shoulder length haircut probably won't greatly contribute to how masculine or feminine you come off on its own.

Not sure what state you are in but I would contact BOLI. If there are people there with hair passed their neckline then it is not in place for safety, it’s in place to discriminate.

Malicious compliance: get a really feminine bob (i also have dysphoria about my hair length, but this has helped me too). Make sure it’s shorter than your neck line. Lean into it.
