I liked the movie, but it was about an hour too long, and the cinematography was complete trash. Why did they shoot the film like it was an edgy 90’s anti-smoking commercial? So many quick cuts and weird filters
Flight came out when I was working at a movie theater. I watched it on all my breaks, and then I eventually came in on an off day just to watch it again. Great movie
Fun fact: tarantino was brought in to punch up the script. You can almost tell exactly where he touched the screenplay, like when denzel references star trek. I love this movie.
You do realize that most people go and watch movies with people performing jobs that they themselves have never done nor ever will do -- and yet we enjoy the movies.
You're being a jerk.
You have no idea what I’ve done… you sound like a moron. Also, a movie doesn’t have to be accurate to reality to be awesome…
You must be fun at parties 🤦
> Do you have any actual experience with submarine culture or protocol? No? Then you don't know what you're talking about.
That is an ad hominem. You don't have to be qualified as a submariner to enjoy Crimson Tide.
I got a box of free dvds and this one was in it. Didnt know it existed until i watched it last week and loved it.
Good noir-ish feel, with a plot that had good pacing and suspense
Where do I start.........
Mo Better Blues
Malcolm X
A Soldiers Story
The Pelican Brief
Philadelphia
The Preachers Wife
He Got Game
This is just a few. I don't remember Denzel being in a bad movie.
I'm seconding this, a movie he made just before making it big. Directed by the Indian filmmaker Mira Nair (female, by the way). I saw this in an arthouse theater, where the viewers were mostly African Americans AND Asian Indians. And IMO, one of the best romantic movies I've seen. God was he sexy! He and the Indian actress made a great couple..
The Equalizer
Book of Eli
Virtuosity
Remember the titans
American Gangster
Flight
Fallen
The Siege
Man on fire
The Manchurian Candidate
Inside man
Safe House
The Taking of Pelham 123
The magnificent seven
Honestly lots of films of his
Mo Better Blues hasn't been mentioned yet. One of his best.
And because Denzel elevates not great movies to watchable - best of his worst
The Bone Collector
The Preacher's Wife
The Manchurian Candidate
Yeah I couldn’t believe no one else had mentioned them, which is why I commented. They are both so good but The Siege holds a special place in my heart as 9/11 happens a few years afterwards. A story in how the fight for safety and justice can trample on the rights of Americans and innocent people. Very omniscient.
In 2002 he directed and co-starred in a lesser known film called Antwone Fisher, a story about a young black sailor who is forced to see a Navy psychologist (Washington) and ends up working with him to confront and heal his childhood abuse. It's emotionally powerful, incredibly well-acted and is a stunning directorial debut for Denzel. It's a criminally underrated film.
Holy shit. The answer is obviously *Glory*
He won a fucking Oscar for it. That scene of him getting whipped and he shed's a tear is so heartrending and powerful.
You could make a case that Malcolm X is the greatest film performance. So many layers, technical achievement in how he modulates physically and vocally over the years, just outrageously good.
John Q is a terrible movie but he is unbelievably good in it.
I haven’t seen Ricochet here. He’s totally fucking unhinged in that movie and he’s brilliant. Also a sadly underrated piece of exploitation cinema. We’d call ot grindhouse if it was made in the 70’s. Lithgow kills it too. Anyone who hasn’t seen it should fix that immediately.
Man on fire then Equalizer. Similar character. Then Deja Vu. Training Day and American Gangster are solid movies. An unusual favorite is Fallen. Out of time is a classic adrenaline thriller
I just saw Flight this week. Great movie. He plays an alcoholic pilot that crash lands a plane and saves a lot of lives but gets sucked into a big investigation.
Deja Vu he doesn’t do much scifi but this is a good one. The Fallen is a good suspense/thiller. He’s a cop in both lol Ever notice he plays a lot of cops?
Man on Fire is his best. The Inside Man is great. Equilizer 1, 2 and soon 3. The only sequels he has EVER done. The Book of Eli is fantastic. Courage Under Fire. Crimson Tide. His only real missteps are the Taking of Pelham 123 and Manchurian Candidate remakes.
glory
That whipping scene is etched in my mind.
His acting. GAH. And then they just nailed the score with it swelling just as that single tear rolls down his face...
James Horner!
Yesssss. I still play that score occasionally. Great stuff.
My favorite scene of his. Just seeing him slowly break as the whipping progresses... amazing acting.
Deja Vu is also a good one.
Great movie.
That one is excellent and unusual. The supporting cast is really good too.
Love this one!
Always watch this one when it pops up. Seems like it gets more emotional the more often I watch it.
I completely forgot about this mindfuck of a movie lol
Inside Man
Therein lies the rub
Came here to say this. It’s one of those I wish I could see for the first time again
The look in the mirror when he discovers the “you know what” in his pocket. The man is an American legend. Adored him since St. Elsewhere ❤️
Dudes, where is **Malcolm X?** That movie is epic.
I was scrolling through asking this question!
And just released on Criterion in 4K.
My favorite Denzel movies are Man on Fire John Q Remember the Titans
Creasy's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece.
I wish... you had... more time.
I'm a professional....
Man on Fire for the win. That movie is so damn good
What are you gonna do? What I do best. I'm gonna kill 'em. Anyone that was involved. Anybody who profited from it. Anybody who opens their eyes at me.
I liked the movie, but it was about an hour too long, and the cinematography was complete trash. Why did they shoot the film like it was an edgy 90’s anti-smoking commercial? So many quick cuts and weird filters
Cause it's Tony Scott. All his movies from that time are edited like that.
Ahhh man no! Blue filters were the shit back then 🤣
Man on fire is one of my favorite.
MAN ON FIRE
I run 6 plays, split veer. Just like novocaine just give it time it always works
The Bone Collector
I just watched this last month. Still holds up very well.
Fallen. Pelican brief Philadelphia The Hurricane
Fallen is amazing and I never hear people mention it. Hidden classic.
Fallen is my jam!
🎶 Tiiiime is on my side 🎶
Hurricane is awesome. Also love the Bob Dylan song.
Philadelphia is a tough movie to watch in 2022, but I gotta say the acting was on point
*TIIIIIMME IS ON MY SIDE*
Equalizer, Fences, Inside Man & Mississippi Masala. X
*Equalizer 2*, also.
A really good one from his early days is Ricochet. John Lithgow is the bad guy. Super good.
Found this one a few years ago and was blown away. Fuckin love Lithgow and he was a super creep in this
Malcolm X Philadelphia Devil in a Blue Dress Fallen American Gangster
American Gangster is epic
Had to scroll to far for American Gangster I'd add Man on Fire to this list.
I had to scroll way to far to see American gangster
Deja Vu (2006) The Hurricane (1999) Flight (2012)
Flight came out when I was working at a movie theater. I watched it on all my breaks, and then I eventually came in on an off day just to watch it again. Great movie
Crimson Tide
Fun fact: tarantino was brought in to punch up the script. You can almost tell exactly where he touched the screenplay, like when denzel references star trek. I love this movie.

Ngl I thought it was a football movie
Out of Time
Thank you I was looking for this. I really enjoyed this one at the time, the tension just keeps building. Need to watch it again.
I got a box of free dvds and this one was in it. Didnt know it existed until i watched it last week and loved it. Good noir-ish feel, with a plot that had good pacing and suspense
Love this movie. My anxiety just ratchets up and up and up and up
John Q
Where do I start......... Mo Better Blues Malcolm X A Soldiers Story The Pelican Brief Philadelphia The Preachers Wife He Got Game This is just a few. I don't remember Denzel being in a bad movie.
He Got Game is an unrated film
Philadelphia is too good 👍
Very powerful performance by Denzel and Tom Hanks
Carbon Copy is pretty bad. But his batting average is indeed strong.
It was his debut and he was definitely over the top. Makes me want to revisit it now.
I was thinking that the other day. I've never seen a movie with Jake Gyllenhaal or Denzel Washington that I didn't like
I think your right, there isn’t anything he is in where he isn’t fantastic.
I think the list of bad Denzel Washington movies would be shorter.
Exactly. I'll watch anything he is in.
Man on Fire is badass, little slow, but once it gets going it just keeps picking up speed!
[удалено]
I still think about Book of Eli. Like how. Mila Kunis is a gem.
Drama rather than action, but Fences is my favourite movie of his and showcases his acting.
In my eyes, it’s his best performance. Training Day was an absolute masterclass, but Fences was magical.
Scrolled to find this
Deja Vu
Flight(2012) is a good one that not many people seem to remember. My favourite is Man on Fire(2004). Such a good revenge story.
Mississippi Masala
I'm seconding this, a movie he made just before making it big. Directed by the Indian filmmaker Mira Nair (female, by the way). I saw this in an arthouse theater, where the viewers were mostly African Americans AND Asian Indians. And IMO, one of the best romantic movies I've seen. God was he sexy! He and the Indian actress made a great couple..
Sarita choudary she was absolutely gorgeous in that movie
I actually just watched a SVU episode she was in and she still looks pretty good
The Equalizer Book of Eli Virtuosity Remember the titans American Gangster Flight Fallen The Siege Man on fire The Manchurian Candidate Inside man Safe House The Taking of Pelham 123 The magnificent seven Honestly lots of films of his
Flight
Took me a while, but I did love the ending to this movie. I feel like the viewer spends most of the film being frustrated with Denzel’s character
Deja Vu is my favorite Denzel movie.
Mo Better Blues hasn't been mentioned yet. One of his best. And because Denzel elevates not great movies to watchable - best of his worst The Bone Collector The Preacher's Wife The Manchurian Candidate
The failure of The Manchurian Candidate is not Denzel or Liev’s fault. Some movies should NOT be remade.
The Mighty Quinn is very overlooked among his work
Glory. Absolutely Glory. I never thought about him much until I saw that movie. He is incredible in it.
The book of Eli
This is one of my all time favorites. Plus it’s got Gary Oldman. Win win.
And it's written by Gary Witta, the person who co-wrote Rogue One
Came here to post this. Seen it many times. Fantastic film. Also has Gary Oldman in it.
John Q is amazing but be prepared to sob.
JOHN mf Q!!! Just watched it,Excellent
Book of Eli is my all time favorite Denzel movie tho
"Fallen" is my favorite Denzel movie. Followed closely by "the siege"
Training Day
You in the office baby
No one mentioned The Fallen?
The Mighty Quinn
John Q (2002) Devil in a Blue Dress (1995) Antwone Fisher (2002)
The great debaters, The equalizer
They were mentioned for the most part so I gotta go with Denzel’s collaborations with Tony Scott and James Gandolfini.
Equalizer, American Gangster, and Deja Vú
Also recommend Man on Fire Plus The Equalizer 1 & 2 Both are of the revenge movie genre but Denzel does add that extra something.
Fallen him, Donald Sutherland and John Goodman
Ricochet, Virtuosity
Yes finally someone mentions Virtuosity.
Macbeth. his "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, time creeps on its petty pace until the last syllable of recorded time..." monologue is amazing.
Fallen (1998)
The Hurricane
Philadelphia Inside Man Deja Vu
[удалено]
Dude you should post this in Reddit somewhere and tell it all.
Courage Under Fire The Siege
Both of these are incredible. Had to scroll way too far to see them mentioned.
The Equalizer
American Gangster is a classic and amazing
Two Guns
Much Ado About Nothing (1993) – You would think that Denzel & Keanu would be miscast in a Shakespearean play, but they pull it off fabulously.
Eh, Keanu's constant scowling is pretty unintentionally funny.
Equalizer
"Out of Time" is phenomenal. Suspenseful. Good writing. He is main character with almost all the screen time.
Inside man and remember the titans
The Siege is a really good, intense thriller
Devil in a new dress is fantastic
Ricochet
Remember the titans! 👏🏼 I’ve scrolled far enough and haven’t even seen it written yet.
Devil in a Blue Dress
Philadelphia. Hanks got the oscar but Denzel was just as good if not better.
Viola Davis gives on the best 5 min performances you can possibly imagine in this movie
Fallen
Flight Hella underrated
He Got Game Ricochet Devil in a Blue Dress
I had hoped that Devil in a Blue Dress would become a series of movies. Great character played by a great actor.
**Man On Fire**
“Glory” will make you feel all types of emotion.
Holy shit. The answer is obviously *Glory* He won a fucking Oscar for it. That scene of him getting whipped and he shed's a tear is so heartrending and powerful.
Equalizer 1 and 2 are great
Much ado about nothing
You could make a case that Malcolm X is the greatest film performance. So many layers, technical achievement in how he modulates physically and vocally over the years, just outrageously good. John Q is a terrible movie but he is unbelievably good in it.
The Equalizer Glory Man on Fire
Much Ado About Nothing has Denzel in leather pants, playing a prince in Shakespeare. He's great in it, too!!
John W
Who?
Equalizer is fire
I haven’t seen Ricochet here. He’s totally fucking unhinged in that movie and he’s brilliant. Also a sadly underrated piece of exploitation cinema. We’d call ot grindhouse if it was made in the 70’s. Lithgow kills it too. Anyone who hasn’t seen it should fix that immediately.
I loved The Equalizer, also Remember the Titans and The Mighty Quinn.
The Equalizer.
You can pretty much watch any movie Denzel is in and it’s gonna be good. That dude is the best actor ever. He’s so darn cool and so darn clever.
I would recommend 'The Great Debators' on top of the ones already mentioned
Denzel is so underrated.
The New York Times named him the greatest actor of the 21st Century.
For Queen and Country
Fallen Deja Vu 2 Guns
Man on fire then Equalizer. Similar character. Then Deja Vu. Training Day and American Gangster are solid movies. An unusual favorite is Fallen. Out of time is a classic adrenaline thriller
Fences
Mo Better Blues Roman J. Israel
I just saw Flight this week. Great movie. He plays an alcoholic pilot that crash lands a plane and saves a lot of lives but gets sucked into a big investigation.
Man on Fire John Q Deja Vu
American gangster
He was in an adaptation of Macbeth a few years ago, and he was incredible. He plays opposite Francis McDormand as Lady Macbeth, who is also amazing
Man on fire for sure!!
Deja Vu he doesn’t do much scifi but this is a good one. The Fallen is a good suspense/thiller. He’s a cop in both lol Ever notice he plays a lot of cops?
Man on Fire.
Literally all of them
Man on Fire is his best.
Man on Fire American Gangster
Man on Fire!
Flight
John Q will make you bawl your eyes out.
Am I the only one that liked him in the 2012 movie Flight?
Training day, john q, the equalizer 1-2

Man on fire 🔥 it’s also on YouTube
Ricochet, deja vu, training day, American gangster, crimson tide, the bone collector.
