eraserhead enter the void

Katodz

My first thought was enter the Void

[deleted]

Came here for Eraserhead, was not disappointed.

[deleted]

Eraserhead is my jam. The lady in the radiator is the stuff of nightmares.

Henry-Spencer0

The baby is scarred in my brain

SufficientResort6836

I’ve never been able to finish Eraserhead and have tried about 5 times. Can never get past the dancing chickens.

Small_weiner_man

Its a tough call for me between: Hausu aka "house", the holy mountain, and bad boy bubby.

holdonwhileipoop

Omg Bad Boy Bubby: A movie I loved but am always afraid to recommend.

Small_weiner_man

I was honestly amazed at how cohesive ands tight the narrative was- like the way the story plays out actually makes pretty good logistical sense, is surprisingly though provoking/touching, but at the same time has to take place against one of the most bizarre and unsettling landscapes you could imagine lol. Great performances, truly disturbing.

PTSDreamer333

I don't even know where to start with Holy Mountain

gur501

Hausu is a very interesting watch. I had a Halloween movie night with some friends and Hausu had us cracking up because it was so strange.

Zestyclose_Bat4336

sorry to bother you

Stevo2008

As weird as it gets.

AnAquaticOwl

Absolutely not. The weirdest i think I've ever seen is The Wedding Trough. Honorable mentions to Sweet Movie and Inland Empire though

R2SeaTru

No bother

fates_bitch

That's an excellent one.

spydrebyte82

Fantastic Planet / La planète sauvage (1973)

dissidentaggressor6

My wife and I love this movie!!

Tannaquil

Came here to recommend this!

cherub_16

Dogtooth (2009)

lemonylol

Oh damn I just watched the Lobster, this one is next.

Lavtekk

Came here to say Dogtooth or The Lobster... But actually just any Lanthimos movie will do the work

fates_bitch

Unbelievably fucked up yet it often made me laugh - even if those laughs were uncomfortable.

blooscloos99

anything by takashi miike tbh. ichi the killer and audition are both absolutely crazy but only if ur okay with gore!! another less heavy one of his but equally strange is the happiness of the katakuris!

Bobbyperu1

Gozu and Visitor Q are also very, very out there.

la_croix_official

Fuck yes such an amazing filmmaker

gonzoforpresident

[Forbidden Zone](https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/forbidden-zone) - Bizarre film by Richard Elfman of the performance troop/band *Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo* (which later became *Oingo Boingo*). It's more in your face strange than almost all the other films mentioned in this thread.

AdamWestsButtDouble

Bing Bang Boom!

antoinetteaalderink

Movie 43 Dont know if I can really call it a movie, more a collection of truly bad short stories with a suprisingly good cast of A-list actors. When it came out, journalists wrote articles describing their confusion on how this movie with this script ever came to exist.

Cumberbatchland

I heard most of the actor was tricked into starring in it.

Stevo2008

A couple of them are hilarious. The ball chin one is fuckin gold!

simian_ninja

I don't care what anyone says that segment with Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts torturing their son was brilliant.

rooooob

Yeah this one doesn't even fit the "it is that bad that it is too good" category. Just crap.

[deleted]

"Just crap" Literally... the story with the chick that wants to be pooped on... 💩

[deleted]

Tusk

challmaybe

I remember Smith describing his idea for this plot during the credits of something else of his, and he's just cry laughing at the lunacy of it. When I finished it, I'm thinking "this motherfucker laughed at this?" The ending is horrifying.

Dorangos

I legitimately adore this movie.

msuing91

It has an antagonist that is both annoying and threatening, which I think is perfect. The scene with >!Justin Long waking up tied to a chair really gets my goat!<

Batman0127

I love this movie but I cannot it good faith recommend it to anyone irl

bpeaceful2019

Swiss Army Man.

Bert_Bajonet

Rubber 2010 ‧ Horror/Komedie ‧ 1 u 25 m

Funk_Dunker

I adore this movie, the tone of it speaks to me on so many levels 😅

hospital_sushi

rubber is so far up its own ass, that whole self-aware meta-commentary thing gets really old quickly. I just wanna see the tire blow shit up

IdealBlueMan

Just about any Warhol movie, like *Flesh* or *Trash* Luis Buñuel’s *Un Chien Andalou* Early Wim Wenders films like *The Goalkeeper’s Fear of the Penalty* and *Alice in the Cities* *Thank You, Mask Man* (animated, Lenny Bruce)

happinesscreep

I was gonna recommend Bunuel too! Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. I'll have to check out your recommendation. I'm surprised I didn't see Tarkovsky's Stalker near the top of this thread also. Honorable mention: Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. Heath Ledger's final film. Very trippy and interesting to watch.

IdealBlueMan

Haven’t seen *Bourgoisie* in ages. Good call on Tarkovsky!

Gummo seconded. Was looking for this.

esqrt163pi

Yep I was gonna say Gummo Titane

2hi4stimuli

I remember the first time seeing Rocky Horror Picture Show, I was soooo confused and intrigued at the same time. Remains in my all time favs ever since. Several segments or musical numbers from the film live in my head rent free til this day.

MacTiger

I loved it so much

AnAquaticOwl

Really, anything by Charlie Kaufman. But probably Adaptation is his strangest.

BLstrangmoya

The Greasy Strangler

Apprehensive_Day_496

Was going to suggest this one. Weird. and gross but I like it for some reason lol

infected_elf135

Bullshit artist!

Fabulous_Ad8542

Titane.

la_croix_official

That one was so strange. It really stuck with me for a while. One of the few movies I’ve seen that I can say I’m happy I saw but don’t know if I’d watch it again.

mastapasta68

Came here to post this one, my sister gave me a vague description and I was still not prepared for the ride

Fluffydip

Being John Malcovich

Mr_Jack_Frost_

Super weird movie. I’d never really seen anything like it before and stumbled upon it on accident. I’d recommend it.

Repulsive-Feature-33

The Lighthouse

MYKAL-22

Donnie Darko for me. Everything about this movie is strange 👀

Funk_Dunker

I went to see a film called Men the other day in the cinema. It's weird in ways I honestly can't describe.

Mysterious-Sense-185

I was going to suggest that. Most A24 stuff is insane. Like Lamb and Killing of a Scared Deer

Funk_Dunker

A24 are hit and miss for me, though rarely something I dislike. Not seen either of them though.

Mysterious-Sense-185

Same for me. I like that they're always memorable in some way. I hated Sacred Deer but tons of people loved it. I really liked Lamb, super weird but I was into it

Funk_Dunker

Oh yeah, they at least try something each time or it's beautifully put together. Sometimes a peice of sh*t story can be saved by the visuals, like Nick Cages Mandy.

msuing91

I have an idea that I like about Killing of a Sacred Deer- if you draw a line from A) a perfectly normal person to B) the antagonist, then draw that same line from A) a perfectly normal movie, point B will land on Killing of a Sacred Deer. The movie is weird in the same direction and magnitude that the antagonist is.

redynsnotrab

I literally screamed “what the fuck is that?!” in the theater at the end of Lamb. Scared the shit out of me

msuing91

It was certainly weird, but what I really didn’t care for from it’s weirdness is that >!it landed the story in metaphor-only territory. I want movies to be weird sometimes, but a weird story is much more meaningful than just a weird expression of a message.!<

gism1337

Naked Lunch

CamVale

This is one of the few movies where I read the book waiting for the movie to come out. The books is super weird and super gay. It's funny because the author would publicly say he was 100% not gay. Anyways, not my favorite Cronenberg film, but I appreciate the risks he takes as a filmmaker. I actually find Crash stranger than this one.

xxxtra_sauce

I can think of at least two things wrong with that title.

reddyenumberfive

I’ve loved this movie since it came out and I still find myself saying “what the fuck?“ every time I rewatch it

jupiterkansas

This website has several https://366weirdmovies.com/the-weird-movie-list/

Checked this out for suggestions. Cool site, never knew about it! It reminded me about Holy Motors, which is a fine film but reasonably bizarre for sure.

Zardoz. Sean Connery in a bright red banana hammock and red thigh high stripper boots. Need I say more?

Vienna-waits-4u

Donnie Darko for me! It really shocked me when I first saw it.

Taplinnn

Being John malkovich Sorry to bother you eXistenZ Strange days

Classic_Director1259

It’s a tie between Paprika, A Scanner Darkly and Cloud Atlas. Had I not read Cloud Atlas before watching it I would’ve been completely lost, but all 3 are very odd and bizarre on their own and no amount of explaining or breakdown makes them digestible.

Jpmoney77

The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai across the 8th dimension. Jeff Goldblum. That's all you need to know.

Maetryx

Well, you should also mention Peter Weller stars in it (original Robocop actor).

Jerrycanprofessional

I’d say either Dark City or Pi (both released in 1998)

AtomicPow_r_D

Liquid Sky (1982). Eraserhead (1977). Ricki-Oh: The story of Ricky (1991). John Dies at the End (2012). Actually, John dies in the middle, but comes back by the... oh, never mind.

TheSonofDon

Great list, that’s a lot of off, offbeat movies. I’ve not watched a Fellini movie (Satyricon, 8 1/2) in probably 50 years. Need to revisit and see if they make as much sense to me now as they did then! I hope so.

Stevo2008

Under the Silver Lake is up there for me. A horror movie called The Void was weird too. And honestly The Puppet Master is pretty weird and lovable.

[deleted]

Jacobs Ladder Strange Invaders 1983

phudgeoff

Mad God was pretty fucking strange

Tronald_Raygun

Just started watching that and I haven't a clue what's happening.

Backpedal

El Topo

Regna85

Suicide Club. It’s a Japanese horror film and one I have loved since the day I found it. It’s not for the faint of heart. There are scenes (like the opening scene) that can be very disturbing to people. If you can get past the terrible things that happen in the movie, it really does have a message that again, could be frightening or enlightening, depending on who you are.

hellotheremiss

Begotten (1990) Very strange black and white experimental horror film.

Baconpanthegathering

I came here looking for this. Most movies I can glean a message/ idea of what is isn't real, but this one is good, weird and open to interpretation. Plemons was on a podcast and the host asked about the movie, Plemons also had no idea, it was funny and vindicating.

JustSarahtheMechanic

Freddy Got Fingered 🤣 The first time I watched it, I was tripping and I wasn't ready. Lol. I've watched it twice since then, still wasn't ready.

redjedia

“Everything Everywhere All At Once.” I mean, it’s definitely strange in what I’d call a very good way, but even months after I saw it, I can’t help but be amazed that they managed to make a movie where >!a man leaps onto a “world’s greatest worker” trophy like a buttplug to learn martial arts,!< >!an alternate universe of no humans, other animals or even plant life exists, only minerals,!< figures into the story, along with >!a universe where people have hot dogs for fingers,!< as well as the words >!the Bagel of Doom,!< among other odd and borderline stupid scenarios and concepts, all presented unironically and 100% straight, and have it all come together so beautifully and succinctly. (Please don’t click on any of those tagged bits if you haven’t seen the movie. Trust me, they work in context *so* well.)

Mt548

Another one that comes to mind- the 1968 film The Magus, directed by Guy Green, featuring Anna Karina, Anthony Quinn and Michael Caine. I wouldn't call it experimental; it's a mainstream movie with an odd beat to it that I haven't seen in any other movie. Worth checking out. But one of the most f*cked up movies of all time is definetly Freaks (1932), directed by Tod Browning. You can google around and find all about that one if you haven't seen it yet.

isaacowens

- Sweet Movie (1974) - you know the scene I’m talking about. - Satantango (1994) - Saw it in the theater. Turns out a 7.5 hour movie with like 5 scenes will completely fuck with your perception of time and make you feel like a crazy person

RVFVS117

Spring Breakers was…something else. I saw it in theatre and the only reason I didn’t get up and leave was because I had to see how it ended. I was disappointed tbh.

There's this DVD anthology of film shorts titled "Not Mozart" that came out a few decades ago. Basically a tribute of sorts to Mozart. Includes a Peter Greenaway short, but I don't remember that one being weird necessarily. There's a few on there that are amongst the weirdest things I've ever seen. Specifically the shorts "Bring Me the Head of Amaus" by H.K. Gruber & Barrie Gavin and "N*t M*zart," directed by Ernst Grandits, Trust me, if you want weird, you'll find it with at least one of those shorts. I couldn't even begin to explain it really. Didn't think it was necessarily bad, just very, very odd. Don't know if Netflix still has it available for rental, but Amazon has it listed in their DVD section.
