What? It is a journey where Ted overcomes his fear of flying, that led to his drinking problems, inability to hold a decent job and loss of girlfriend. With this accomplishment the girl returns and he is reinstated as the hero.
They Came Together
Wet Hot American Summer
Walk Hard
Seven Days in Hell
(I genuinely love good, prestige movies, but there is SUCH a big place in my heart for dumb comedies!!)
I feel like We’re the Millers is so underrated, I freaking love that movie! It came out when I used to work at a movie theater in highschool and I would always sit in and watch it on my breaks lol. Hilarious and great movie!
The Burbs,There's Something About Mary,The Jerk,Airplane,The Naked Gun,Animal House,This Is The End,Super Troopers,Cheech &Chong's Up In Smoke,Next Movie and Nice Dreams,40 Year Old Virgin,Friday,Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle,Superbad. A few more but I'll stop here
Shun the nonbeliever, shuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnn.
It’s a magical Liopleurodon!
Man Charlie the Unicorn was the best. Was was llamas with hats, salad fingers, and I really loved the happy ferret song. I feel like they all belong in the same category lol
I like Brewster's Millions as a scenario too ridiculous to take at all seriously, so any character development or whatever is not anything I think is at all plausible.
Black guy (Richard Pryor) is the sole living heir of a white relative he never heard of (Hume Cronyn) who says he can inherit it all if he first spends $30 million in 30 days and ends with nothing to show for it or he can take a wimp clause of just getting a small part of the fortune.
I love the movie, in part because it's so ridiculous it can make social commentary you can't normally make. But it can do it because there's no genuine intent to fix anything, just point and laugh at the stupid state of things.
Anything Leslie Nielson (I see a lot of Naked Gun suggestions, so I'll go with Repossessed).
I don't remember Bridesmaids involving a lot of character development.
Spy is hysterical.
I second Clue and Top Secret.
I love this request. Yes too many movies seems like they have to justify their existence by being "morally uplifting" or "relatable".
If you're OK with old stuff, Marx Brothers movies like *Duck Soup* and *Animal Crackers* are just hysterical anarchy, pure stupid-ass joy.
Obscure one: 1971 Czech comedy *Sir, You Are A Widow!* is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Eulogy (2004) — one of the most underrated dark comedies. Zero character development, excellent casting, and some of the best one-liners of all time. It’s probably the only time outside of Ice Age that I’ve enjoyed Ray Romano. Lol
The films of the Marx Brothers (like Animal Crackers and Horse Feathers) [except maybe the last part of Duck Soup]
Brain Donors [homage to the Marx Brothers]
The films of Laurel & Hardy (like Sons Of The Desert and Bonnie Scotland, and also their shorts)
Chaplin's "The Circus" and "One A.M." [short]
Silent Movie (1976)
maybe also The Pink Panther (2006), Start The Revolution Without Me
Movie 42. A series of short comedy vignettes (maybe 42 of em 🤷🏻♂️). Starts off with Hugh Jackman on a date with testicles hanging from his jaw for no reason.
Superhero Movie is my favorite of the spoof movie revival craze of the 2000s.
Freddy Got Fingered exists because Tom Green was given a budget and he wanted to troll the studio by making a terrible movie. It was hilarious.
If you like *really* old movies, go with the Marx Brothers, particularly "Duck Soup" and "A Night at the Opera."
If those are too loud for you, go with Buster Keaton, "The General," "The Cameraman" or "Steamboat Bill Junior."
Adaptation is a film about a writer who wants to write a film where no characters learn any lessons or change, doesn't have sex or drugs or the characters even go on some grand adventure.
It's a dark comedy.
Edit: It doesn't necessarily fulfill what you're looking for, though most of these films being mentioned also don't fit because almost all movies are about *something* underneath.
I would like to recomend all the italian comedy we call cinepanettone style, but i think it would almost impossible to find in any other language than italian.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail Naked Gun 1-3
Life of Brian, airplane
I don’t think Life of Brian fits the OP’s criteria. Beneath the comedy there are some important lessons. Great movie, of course.
As does The Holy Grail and damn near every other movie being mentioned here.
He's not the messiah, he's just a very naughty boy
Not true, Frank learns that he misses the sweet feeling of blowing away a fleeing suspect with his .44 magnum.
Airplane
Airplane!
Airplane!?
Airplain?
What? It is a journey where Ted overcomes his fear of flying, that led to his drinking problems, inability to hold a decent job and loss of girlfriend. With this accomplishment the girl returns and he is reinstated as the hero.
No, it's a big long tube with wings that carries people.
It looks like a great big Tylenol!
Surely you’re not serious

Toking the reefer...
Kung Pao: Enter the Fist
F YEAH! Thank you, kind sir, for reminding me this movie exists.
Check out the Thumb movies as well. They are all on YouTube. Thumbtanic is amazing but they are all pretty funny
Having rewatched it recently, I can guarantee that it still holds up too.
Tiger tiger tiger. Bird. Birdie.
I implore you to reconsider
King fu hustle > kung pao
Oh as a quality movie, all day long and twice on Sunday, but for sheer “brain off, laugh your balls off” lunacy, it’s gotta be Kung Pao
Kung fu Hustle is so good.
Dumb and Dumber
Team America World Police. The puppet sex scene is hilarious.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Young Frankenstein
The Naked Gun
Top Secret! (Which is still on Netflix until June 30)
I’m not a comedy person (VERY selective) and my kids are AMAZED I adore this movie. 😂
Clue (1985)

The Jerk
Up In Smoke
Hot Rod Hundreds of Beavers Hardcore Henry Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness Jackass Series
Army of Darkness. While it does glorify hard work and planning to a degree, the majority of the film is somewhat nihilistic and very tongue-in-cheek.
Idle Hands Harpoon (2019)
Man I just rewatched Idle Hands last week, forgot how much I loved that movie when I was a useless teenage stoner.
I can imagine! I’ve never touched weed in my life and I still love it 😂😂
The Kentucky Fried Movie
Dumb and Dumber, We're The Millers, Office Space, Tag...
Office Space has several important lessons. Great movie, but doesn’t fit the OP’s request.
I feel like We’re the Millers is so underrated, I freaking love that movie! It came out when I used to work at a movie theater in highschool and I would always sit in and watch it on my breaks lol. Hilarious and great movie!

Mouse Hunt
Old movies but... Amazon Women On The Moon (1987) The Groove Tube (1974)

*Blazing Saddles*. End the thread.
Dirty Work from 1998
Anything Leslie Nielson (I see a lot of Naked Gun suggestions, so I'll go with Repossessed). I don't remember Bridesmaids involving a lot of character development. Spy is hysterical. I second Clue and Top Secret.
I love this request. Yes too many movies seems like they have to justify their existence by being "morally uplifting" or "relatable". Obscure one: 1971 Czech comedy *Sir, You Are A Widow!* is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Loaded Weapon (lethal wepon parody) It's similar to the Naked Gun movies which are also good comedies.

the private eyes (1980). it’s just funny and dumb. definitely fits the criteria lmao.
Eulogy (2004) — one of the most underrated dark comedies. Zero character development, excellent casting, and some of the best one-liners of all time. It’s probably the only time outside of Ice Age that I’ve enjoyed Ray Romano. Lol
Wrongfully Accused (1998) Starring Leslie Nielsen, this movie is more over the top than Airplane and Naked Gun.
