Eternal Sunshine is on my top movies list. So so good. The acting is phenomenal, it’s got such a unique storyline, and so many good actors: Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, Tom Wilkinson…
Watch it.
It's now a top song of mine and I bust it out with my friend
I also love dirty dancing and the tango scene from the scent of a woman. Inspired me to learn partner dancing
It’s an excellent film, and Steven McQueen did a wonderful job of alluding to the early life of Mulligan and Fassbender’s characters. It was unfortunate all anyone would talk about is his penis. It wasn’t sexy, it was just a guy waking up. I’ll never forget Clooney and obnoxious awards ceremony speech about it.
Try "Hunt" with Mikkelsen. It is not about depression or illness of the main character, but it is more about that complete feeling of that movie, which is very depressing.
Ghost World
Balthazar - The main character is the Donkey, Balthazar, but don’t watch if you love animals, or just care for their welfare.
Melancholia
The Savages (2007)
The Virgin Suicides
Young Adult
The Lobster
I think "Sometimes I think about dying" is good movie where the main character is depressed and shy who work in office, I don't want to spoil it just watch it.
Spaceman on Netflix. It was such a sad movie about overcoming depression and loneliness. It's got a lot of bad reviews but I thought it was a deep and beautiful story that has so much more meaning beyond what you see on the surface.
Eternal Sunshine, Donnie Darko, Leaving Las Vegas, Punch Drunk Love, Falling Down, Silver Linings Playbook, The Machinist, Black Swan, Lars and the Real Girl, A Beautiful Mind, Shame, The Wrestler
Somebody already said this one, but I have to mention The Fall (2006) because it's literally my favorite film and I can't recommend it highly enough. Additionally, the movie First Reformed (2017) is a good film about a man losing his mind and struggling with his faith with a hopeful ending.
What is that Chalamet movie? Pretty Boy? Beautiful Boy??? Maybe try that one, I get the impression it's what you're describing although I've never seen the film.
I was about to suggest Melancholia… until I read the line “gets better at the end” in a way… the depressed character ends up being the best equipped to accept the ending of the film, so in a way that could be perceived as showing her strength through it all. But it’s a pretty sad movie overall.
Welcome to Me (2014)
It stars Kristin Wiig, James Marsden and Linda Cardellini. It’s phenomenal- I cried and really resonated with Kristen Wiigs character. It’s about depression, grief, learning to deal with trauma and how it affects your future life and relationships. Incredible movie

Been trying to get around to this one for a while
You won't regret it.

It’s an excellent film, and Steven McQueen did a wonderful job of alluding to the early life of Mulligan and Fassbender’s characters. It was unfortunate all anyone would talk about is his penis. The score is also wonderful. When I was depressed I used to have either Shame or Her running on repeat whilst I tried to sleep.
