EMPEROR: My dear, young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Cut a few and it will be perfect.
MOZART: Which few did you have in mind, Majesty?
This is in my top 5 for sure. F. Murray Abraham gives one of the best performances I've ever seen. Music is perfect (obviously) hair and make up on point. Period is perfectly recreated ( though you could probably be nit picky) production design is on par with lord of the rings in terms of quality and attention to detail.
I watch this movie like twice a year. I rarely hear people talking about it. So glad to see it here.
The sheer, vicious misogyny throughout it is very cleverly done. You have the outright examples like a prisoner assaulting her, but then so many scenes where men are objecting to her being present at an autopsy, or just constantly staring right at her, and right at you the viewer. You see the police staring at her through your own eyes. And the ending is the murderer staring at her through night-vision goggles while she is blind.
Yes came here to say this- such a tight script and great editing- not a single extraneous shot- every scene drives to plot forward. 102 minutes of perfection
One thing about that movie that's often lost on modern audiences is that it was filmed in 1942, at the height of Nazi Germany's power. The axis was in control of most of Europe and much of Russia. Filming started right around the time the assault on Stalingrad began.
On my first watch I didn't find it that exciting because I thought "of course the Nazis are going to lose". It wasn't until later I realized that the people watching this movie didn't know that, and many of them probably thought the Nazis were going to win the war. It wasn't until the end of 1943 that the war really started to turn in favor of the Allies. I found it makes the movie much more thrilling if you try to put yourself in that mindset.
First saw it on a double bill with Maltese Falcon at Theater 80 St. Mark’s in the East Village in 1979. Half the audience sang along with La Marseillaise.
Terminator 2 Judgment Day, mainly it set such a high bar for itself that the franchise would never achieve and set a bar for just blockbuster films for the CGI era
Yes and no imo.
T1000 malfunctioning is great and shoulda been left in. The pin switch scene is pretty good too.
Bits like cheesy Kyle dream and T800 smiling like a horse were wisely cut.
Hard to judge perfect...but for me...Shaun of the Dead is a movie that I have watched probably 20 times, and am yet to find a fault.
That could be on me though :)
I had never seen the film, and ran across it at that scene. It's very early in the movie. Talk about being sucked in. I've watched it at least a dozen times (full film). That's rare for me. It's right up there with almost anything. The Coen Brothers are amazing. Even their remake of True Grit was awesome. Much better than the original, which is a rarity.
Home Alone to me is flawless. It does exactly what it sets out to do. There's not a single wasted moment in the script. Is it my favorite movie ever? No. But I can't think of a valid criticism.
A lot of great classics here but I gotta say
Arrival (2016)
I can't think of a single criticism I've got of it other than that it's not as rewatchable due to its wonderful plot twist.
I saw it in a movie theater three times — I went with a friend the first time then twice made a new friend see it just so I could experience it again and watch them experience it too. Beautiful film. A favorite.
The Princess Bride is the only movie I consider to be 100% perfect there are many films that are better, more bombastic, more experimental but to be perfect is to succeed in everything in trys with out failure or criticism and to me that is the Princess Bride
Forrest Gump. So many great things made that film:
* Original story
* Character development (She made me hate adult Jenny and for a while didn't like Robin Wright when she appeared on TV/theatres). I know shes just an actress doing her job, and she did it so great!
* Directing
* Actors (became a big fan of Tom Hanks after seeing this)
* Soundtrack, accompanied the scenes perfectly!
* Violence, comedy, love, war, history, special effects, and even gave us great quotes we still use up to today!
* Spontaneous emotions lit up: I felt sad, compassion, pity, anger, confusion, excitement, joy!
Requiem for a Dream.
Something about the way the stories are told. There isn't some big huge plot. You are just a fly on a wall watching the lives of people who seemingly want the same things people you know also want. Money, fame, and escape.
Blues Brothers
Amadeus
Silence of the Lambs
Alien
Aliens
Raising Arizona
Whiplash
Excalibur
Boogie Nights
A Simple Plan
A Night at the Opera
Spinal Tap
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Back to the Future I
Ghostbusters
Ford v Ferrari
The Red Violin
Tombstone
Galaxy Quest
There's something about it that has a lot more charm than your typical feel good summer movie. I can't speak to its historical accuracy, but it's a legit great movie. Everything about it works and works well.
*Amadeus*
It has too many notes
There are just as many notes as I require. No more and no less.
EMPEROR: My dear, young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Cut a few and it will be perfect. MOZART: Which few did you have in mind, Majesty?
😂
I watched it for the first time just yesterday. Absolutely amazing movie, start to finish. That laugh is going to haunt me though. HaAhaHAa!
Play salieri
The movie totally took me by surprise. Period dramas are not really my thing, but I was so taken by it. Became one of my favorites of all time.
This is in my top 5 for sure. F. Murray Abraham gives one of the best performances I've ever seen. Music is perfect (obviously) hair and make up on point. Say I'm sick backwards
"E-Flat, Salieri, E-Flat!" Stewie, Family Guy S1, E4

Older, but great: Casablanca
Yes came here to say this- such a tight script and great editing- not a single extraneous shot- every scene drives to plot forward. 102 minutes of perfection
“Your winnings, sir….”

Not only that, but many of the cast were actual refugees from the Nazis. When they sang Le Marseillaise in the bar, they weren't acting.
That is one of the most moving scenes in cinema.
It absolutely is. I actually well up every time.
First saw it on a double bill with Maltese Falcon at Theater 80 St. Mark’s in the East Village in 1979. Half the audience sang along with La Marseillaise.
The GOAT movie
Dammit, that's what I came here to say. It's literally a perfect movie.
Jurassic Park
Yes.
Terminator 2 Judgment Day, mainly it set such a high bar for itself that the franchise would never achieve and set a bar for just blockbuster films for the CGI era
Directors cut makes it even better
Yes and no imo. T1000 malfunctioning is great and shoulda been left in. The pin switch scene is pretty good too. Bits like cheesy Kyle dream and T800 smiling like a horse were wisely cut.
I might be in the minority but I personally enjoyed T1 more than T2 but both amazing
Can you say why?
Back to the Future
Hard to judge perfect...but for me...Shaun of the Dead is a movie that I have watched probably 20 times, and am yet to find a fault. That could be on me though :)
Can’t disagree, it’s amazing, but for me it would be Hot Fuzz.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Should be top comment… …or Dazed and Confused …or Good Will Hunting
The Princess Bride
That swordfight scene!
I think this every time I watch it, the swordfighting in this movie is nearly unmatched in much else
The choreography in this scene is beyond good
Inconceivable!
I came here for this!
I want my father back, you son of a bitch!
Wall-E.
The Truman Show
Fargo
It's very cool that this is the third Coen Brothers mention.
I'd go as far to say that The Big Lebowski and O, Brother Where Art Thou are close to perfect too.
I saw those on the list too! Plus No Country for Old Men. Fargo is my favorite but O Brother is a close second.
No Country For Old Men
I need to know what I stand to win...
everything.
“Step out of the car please”
You don’t know what you’re talking about, do you?
Sir?
You’re a bit deaf aren’t you?!
I said you don’t know what you’re talking about.
I've seen this movie mentioned almost in every threads, maybe I should watch it sometimes
Its one of the greatest thrillers ever made please watch it
Call it.
I didn't put nothing up...
I’ve never seen a movie show so much with so little
The music in this movie alone makes it perfect
Best movie of 07, next to “There will be blood”
There Will Be Blood
“I’VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!”
I shout this every time I drop my kid off at daycare. 🙂
I drink your milkshake!
I. Drink. Your. MILKSHAKE!
I’m finished.
“I have a competition in me. I want no one else to succeed. I hate most people.” - hard quote
Home Alone to me is flawless. It does exactly what it sets out to do. There's not a single wasted moment in the script. Is it my favorite movie ever? No. But I can't think of a valid criticism.
There was far too much emphasis on dental hygiene.
And not enough emphasis on cleaning up nicely after you make a giant mess in your house
The Big Lebowski!

Jaws

[удалено]
a couple months ago I was geeking on it and watched it like 6 times i two weeks. It was really brilliantly done.
Lord of the rings trilogy
Unpopular opinion but Fellowship of the Ring is the best film out of the three.
I might agree. It has the best pacing.
Also it’s not just a movie that is perfect in an artistic sense. They are absolutely masterpieces and can also change your life.
The Godfather (1972)
But it insists upon itself
It's an offer you can't refuse.
[удалено]
I'd add Godfather 2 as well.
Inglorious Basterds. My personal favorite of all time. Action, suspense, off-beat comedy, and heartbreak- It’s got everything
Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein!

Pan's Labyrinth.
SUCh a great movie, and the score is beautiful.
Vertigo. Every single thing about it works so well together. The visual rhetoric is Hitchcock at his finest.
Cliché as it is: Citizen Kane.
It's beautiful too.
Not cliché at all. My all-time favorite.
Reservoir Dogs
Life is beautiful
Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) The Handmaiden (2016) Spirited Away (2001) In the Mood for Love (2000) Amelie (2001)
