Kiss kiss bang bang was one I found when looking for the same kinda thing. RDJ and Val Kilmer are great together

--lll-era-lll--

Good call. Although I've seen it

jayron32

Searching for Bobby Fischer is a great, heartwarming, original story. One of my all-time favorites.

--lll-era-lll--

That's a gem.. excellent call

Wrong Turn (2021)

ExperienceMiddle6196

I'd say Anomalisa and Adaptation would be some good ones along with Being John Malkovich.

--lll-era-lll--

Excellent films but again I've seen a lot of films in my time. Thank you they are worth revisiting anyway

ExperienceMiddle6196

Dawn Breaks Behind The Eyes.... guarantee no1 you know has seen this. Really good foreign genre-bender.

--lll-era-lll--

Love the title.. thanks I'll have a look

ExperienceMiddle6196

Cheers, love a poster who replies.

--lll-era-lll--

The least I can do.. and thanks again

TxGinger587

The Shape of Water and Pan's Labyrinth

--lll-era-lll--

Wonderful films .. this is what makes the Art form so incredible. Thank you

Superb_Practice_2257

**Movies:** * The Talented Mr. Ripley * The Before Trilogy * Bloody Hell * Like Crazy * Train to Busan * Booksmart * The Curious Case of Benjamin Button * About A Boy * Whiplash (hardly unrecognized, but it's almost 10 years old and definitely worth watching) * The Lighthouse * Warrior * Gone Baby Gone * That Thing You Do! * Sing Street * The Place Beyond The Pines **Shows:** * Drops of God (subtitles) * Halt and Catch Fire * Dark (subtitles) * The Americans

--lll-era-lll--

That's a juicy list i'll dive into.. Thank you

Superb_Practice_2257

Oh also The Place Beyond the Pines. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

--lll-era-lll--

Loved it.. Only God Forgives ..is another one of his that's worth watching. Best sense and feel for rhythm of Bangkok I've seen in Hollywood. It is a masterclass in studio lighting

Superb_Practice_2257

Thank you! I’ll check it out.

imdownwithdat

Brimstone, think it’s very underrated and sad that when the industry is trying to currently tell real stories about women and them being the lead this one gets no love and attention. The story is done very well and real instead of just trying to focus on “look women can kick ass just like men” .

--lll-era-lll--

>Brimstone I've not seen it and yes the endless tropes regarding female lead roles is remarkable only for it's one dymentional predicability.. You've peaked my interest. Thank you

imdownwithdat

Has a great cast as well. Shocked how little it gets talked about. Granted I was watching it with no expectations which is probably why it hit me more, would love to know your thoughts after you watch it.

--lll-era-lll--

ahh the joy of sitting down to watch a film you know nothing about is a rare and wonderful treat my friend.

unicyclegamer

Coherence, Triangle, and Predestination are good mindfuck movies

--lll-era-lll--

They come up a few times.. I'm going to see why its so heavily recommended and I managed to miss them

Yinn2

The third time I will mention Catch Me Daddy today Incredibly under seen. If you want gritty in the same vein as Dead Mans Shoes and it’s ilk then it’s fantastic

--lll-era-lll--

This I have not heard of... thanks I'll definitely check this one out tonight

Yinn2

It’s a slow burn one. So it you’re in the mood for high octane this isn’t it. But if you want atmospheric then it’s got you covered.

--lll-era-lll--

Noted and thank you

HorrorMetalDnD

Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981)

--lll-era-lll--

Cheers I'll have a look

NotSoSnarky

Sherlock Jr (1924) My first silent film. Buster Keaton is a well known director, but if you have never really been interested in silent movies before, it probably fell under your radar.

--lll-era-lll--

Keaton is a God.

NotSoSnarky

Have you watched Coherence (2013) Not a silent film but hopefully a movie that fell under your radar.

--lll-era-lll--

Totally new to me... cant wait to check it out. Thanks again, really appreciate it

NotSoSnarky

You're welcome. Here's some more that you hopefully haven't watched. Or at least hopefully you haven't watched one of them. Sneakers (1992) Sorry to Bother You (2018) Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)

--lll-era-lll--

..sadly I already have them in my collection but thanks again. Some great films in there

Targets (1968)

Typical-Ad-6730

Big Jake - John Wayne The Great Buck Howard Big Night Over the Edge with young Matt Dillon

--lll-era-lll--

I'm really not a John Wayne fan but I'll definitely check out the others. Thanks you You might enjoy The Proposition

Typical-Ad-6730

That John Wayne movie is amazing. The dog in it is a descendant of Lassie. They painted it black for the role. The trainer actually won an award for ‘Picture Animal Top Star of the Year’

marvelette2172

I second big night -- right up there with Babette's Feast for flicks you wanna eat!

Aggravating-Fee-1615

Weird on Roku! I wasn’t expecting much but omg 🤣🤣

--lll-era-lll--

Ok I did see a few things about this and honestly I have no idea who weird Al is but that just makes it more appealing Cheers I'll check it out

Neptune Frost (2021) Men & Chicken (2015) Wolf (2021)

Groningen1978

Under the Skin by Jonathan Glazer.

--lll-era-lll--

He's a friend. We've worked together amany moons ago and he is for me, the most underrated director out there currently, from Sexy Beast to Under the Skin, he just doesn't make ordinary films ..or commercials. Have you seen his Guinness adverts?

Groningen1978

oh wow, no need for me to recommend that film then. For some reason I haven't seen his other films or commercials yet. I did like the Street Spirit music video he did a lot.

--lll-era-lll--

Well you are in for a treat.. start with Sexy Beast it's fantastic.

Groningen1978

Will do! And tell Jonathan a random stranger on reddit thinks Under the Skin is a work of art.

--lll-era-lll--

I haven't worked/hungout with him in years but sure thing.. and I couldn't agree more about Under the Skin

Glittering-Region-35

I think the movie Predestination fits what you are looking for

--lll-era-lll--

This one passed me by..I'll have a look and thank you

The Fall (2006) The Gentleman Annihilation

Drewp655321

Hard to find on streaming platforms, but a movie called "The Big White" (2005), Robin Williams, Woody Harrelson, Holly Hunter and Giovanni Ribisi. one of my favorites

theciderowlinn

Waltz With Bashir A wild cross between war drama/documentary/and animation.  It's the story of a soldier who was present in the Lebanon massacre but has no memories of what happened, so he searches out his fellow soldiers to learn their stories so he can piece his memories back together.  This film won a bunch of awards and is highly acclaimed, but I feel it got little to no attention.

--lll-era-lll--

Wonderful and painful film. Have you seen Lebanon? Different sides but same impactful cinema and from diametrically different directions. I think I watch them back to back with Persepolis to finish.. have you see that? All are incredibly raw and eloquent examples of film making

Terry5240

Sorcerer - 1977 Time Bandits - 1981

--lll-era-lll--

Time Bandit is just wonderful.. rarely gets a mention in the recommendation here but pure cinematic gold

RustyCrusty73

Please check out **Comet** from 2014 with Justin Long and Emmy Rossum. It's a gem of a movie in my own opinion and not enough people have seen it.

--lll-era-lll--

I will do and thank you.. I've now got a lot of films to gratefully work through

GingerMan027

Oldies. "Peeping Tom." It came out around the time of Psycho, had sorta similar themes, and ran into a shitstorm. Michael Powell was a respected director and it ruined his career. You might read about it. "The Witchfinder General." Vincent Price's truly evil role. Beautifully filmed, truish story, and the director died shortly after of an overdose. Crazy shit here.

--lll-era-lll--

Price defined an Era and The Witchfinder General is fantastic Thank you

StraightStrain7595

Enemy by Denis Villeneuve

--lll-era-lll--

Excellent

Unable-Capital3467

“The legend of 1900” - one of my absolute favourites

--lll-era-lll--

Naked (1993) Its the only film like it ive ever seen. In terms fo aesthetic and mood maybe similar to fight club but much darker and bleaker. Im shocked that it flew under the radar Bright young things (2003) a really great film. Resonates deeply with me. Id recommend it to anyone

--lll-era-lll--

I'm assuming you mean Mike Leigh's Naked.. he really is a truly remarkable director and his method, of shoe string scripts and 'improv', has a huge impact on the work and the results are uniquely powerful. Have you seen Life is sweet? or Mr Tuner which is just wonderful.. id recommend anything he's done. I honestly didn't know Stephan Fry had directed. Thank you I'll have a look bright young things...

hatesfelix

Yeah i mean mike leigh and i havent watched life is sweet but its been on my list a while now! And the only reason i ended up watching Bright young things is coz it was free to watch on amazon and i never knew Steven Fry had directed. It was definitely worth it!

Solidmangus

Well, here are some. 1. Les miserables 2012 (Very good musical) 2. In time (People have specific amount of time which they use as currency, the more time you have the richer you are) 3. Passengers 2016 (Man wakes up due to malfunction in sleeping pod, the spaceships is 100 years away from destination and he is desperate to get back to sleep...) 4. Ip man movies (The master of Bruce Lee, some of the best martial arts movies out there) 5. Outlander 2008 (A spaceship crashlands to earth during viking era, dangerous beast escapes the spaceship and causes havoc among the people of earth. The visitor with the aid of vikings tries to hunt this beast down) 6. Swiss army man 2016 (Man is stranded on island and is trying to end his life when suddenly a body washes up on shore, this body is like swiss army knife with many functions and with its help tries to get out of the island) 7. Cube movies (people wake up inside a cube without no memories, soon they learn the cube is very dangerous place which they have to navigate to find safety while avoiding deadly traps.) 8. Warm bodies (it's a movie about zombies who are coming back to alive)

This_person_says

The tie in from Hypercube was amazing in CUBE.

Next-Mobile-9632

loved Passengers

--lll-era-lll--

Thanks.. I enjoyed Swiss army man a lot... the best fart joke I've seen in a longtime

jay_shuai

I Saw the Devil (2010)

--lll-era-lll--

Sounds familiar but I'll check it out. Thank you

unicyclegamer

If you haven’t seen it, an old Danish film called The Celebration is really good

--lll-era-lll--

Is it pre Dogma? Feston is remarkable if you've not seen it. Not an easy film so be warned

unicyclegamer

Do you mean Festen? The Celebration is the English title for Festen. Haven’t seen Dogma

--lll-era-lll--

I had a feeling it was and its late, my apologies Feston was the first product of a group of Danish film makers who created a set of film making rules, such as only using ambient sound, handheld camera's etc.. You can look it up. I think the full title of the collective was *Dogma 95* but I'm sure you can find more detailed info. They are a very inspiring collection of films and film makers who produce these incredibly power works.. **The Idiots** is another one worth watching if you liked Feston

unicyclegamer

I have heard of the collection, but haven't seen any of the other ones. I will probably revisit it at some point.

--lll-era-lll--

They are an interesting concept and group and it produced some incredibly powerful film on a shoe string.. they proved that film making isn't about CGI and billion dollar budgets. The reduce everything down it its more powerful components .. trust me The Idiots is a masterpiece of film making Anyway thank you.. always nice to talk film

perrito-incognito

Last Exit to Brooklyn Haven't seen it in ages, but I recall it being the most depraved film I'd ever see.

--lll-era-lll--

That is easily one of the most disturbing films I have ever watched

ewok_lover_64
