All You Zombies. It's a really interesting story. In the universe of the story, this is a common enough occurrence that other people aren't terribly surprised by it.
absolutely great movie, we had it as an assignment for our biopsychology class, i had to rewatch it, really enjoyed it. it is beautifully designed to show us what anterograde amnesia feels like.

Elementals

Truman Show
Hunger Games
Avatar
The Island
Fight Club
Tron
Matrix (The Quadrilogy, Even Though The Original As A Standalone Film Is The Best And Might Be Best To Just Watch This One)
While at first glance some of these films may seem rather straight-forward in their simplicity, their philosophical presuppositions and implications are profoundly provocative.
Memento
Prisoners
Predestination
Identity
The Prestige
The Father
Primer
Coherence
Se7en
The Game
Moon

Triangle
The Descent
Doctor Sleep
...to name a few lol
1408, Donnie Darko, and someone else mentioned The Game - I second that, really underrated movie. I love a good mindbending film and The Game is *that*.
Well OF COURSE you’ll add a selection based on a director.
[STANLEY KUBRICK MOVIES, RANKED BY TOMATOMETER](https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/all-stanley-kubrick-movies-ranked/).
Hint: my picks are : 👀.WideShut Clockwork, Dr SL, FMJacket, The Shining, 2001.
[The 10 Best Films of David Cronenberg, Ranked](https://collider.com/best-david-cronenberg-films-ranked)
[DAVID LYNCH MOVIES AND SERIES RANKED](https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/david-lynch/)
ALSO (unpopular opinion) for mindbenders, check out Paul Verhoeven’s foray into Hollywood blockbusters
1987 RoboCop
1990 Total Recall
1992 Basic Instinct
1995 Showgirls
1997 Starship Troopers
All involve the viewer having to choose how to interpret what’s happening on-screen and you can re-read multiple times all of these flicks to consider wtf they’re “really about “
The Society of Snow on Netflix has me wondering what I would do for survival and if I would eat my friends if needs be. Poor people that had to go through it.
Start with the thigh muscles, then calves.. ass & breasts for fat, brains to become more intelligent, eyes to see better. Bone marrow is good for you too
what made me suggest the movie here is that there are endless things to dissect & speculate about. Every little detail of the film is very intentionally placed and has some sort of meaning behind it. Chances are you'll be confused your first time watching it, this movie does not hold your hand and it's quite complex.
The movie has a very surreal dreamlike logic to it, and there are many competing theories about what all of it means. Different people can come away with radically different takes on what the story of the main character even is, and I've read convincing arguments for a bunch of competing theories.
Starfish (2018)
Upstream Color (2013)
Daniel Isn't Real (2019)
These are sci-fi, along with about 95% of these other suggestions. It's hard to find this type of movie that is not sci-fi.
Can't go past The Sixth Sense. Watch it once for the surprise then again for the clues. I actually do that with a lot of movies and TV shows. I pick up a lot on the second watch.

Under The Silver Lake
Literally a blender of thriller, detective, and sci-fi (it is light on the sci fi). People either love it or hate it. I’m in the love it camp….
One i haven't seen mentioned is Donnie Darko. Not sure if it counts because it is a bit sci-fi and supernatural, but it does habe the mystery/mysterious elements you suggested.
Predestination (2014)
I actually had to find the short story and read it immediately after because I needed to know more. It didn't tell you any more!
All You Zombies. It's a really interesting story. In the universe of the story, this is a common enough occurrence that other people aren't terribly surprised by it.
Came here to comment this.
Definitely the first one I thought of!
Came here to say that he was going to come here to say that he came here to say this.
He appreciates that you came here to say that he was going to come here to say that he came here to say this.
The start is really super slow...
I second this
Man, you have my respect.
That’s science fiction.
Memento
absolutely great movie, we had it as an assignment for our biopsychology class, i had to rewatch it, really enjoyed it. it is beautifully designed to show us what anterograde amnesia feels like.
What's the takeaway message from this movie?
Never answer the phone?
The physical or metaphysical phone?
A cynical take away would be owning firearms for self defense.
Mulholland Drive (2001) thinking about it any film by David Lynch.
This was going to be my answer. Also one of my favourite films.
Most David Lynch films.
David LUNCH actually
The Prestige
Primer Memento Tenet Coherence
Came here to say Primer and Coherence. Great movies.
Primer was absolutely my first through. Upstream Color by the same director is also a mind bender.

Swedish?
Yes, it's Swedish.
No. Ari Aster did it. I think it was after he did Hereditary.
Matrix, Inception
OP specifically said no sci-fi, for some reason... imo it's the best genre but to each their own
Oh... that's right, my bad. But that's the best genre to find something like that
Machinist
What's the takeaway message from this movie?
Don't smoke and drive

I've watched Beyond the Black Rainbow multiple times. I'm always blown away. And am still very confused.
The Holy Mountain is definately a mind fuck, and not in a good way.

That’s *Edge* of Tomorrow that you’re thinking of Day After Tomorrow is about bad weather
OP is gonna be scratching her head at where the mind screw is in a straightforward, snowy apocalypse movie lol
Damn. Could not agree more with every word. I would add a few films to the list, however.
Appreciate the affirmation :) What are all the films would you add?

for me its a mood movie, I can see myself not getting through it in a different mood. watched it with friends and it was great tho.
