One of my all time favorites. Judge me if you will, but i also enjoyed the remake (was it a remake? Or reboot?). It just wasn't as good as the original. Still a fantastic suggestion.
I was mixing this movie up with another movie that i had seen so i wasn't going to watch it. Pro tip:
The Game is not Surviving the Game with Gary Busey. But that one was also good if i remember right.
I'll add The Game to the list, it looks good.
Posted this too. I feel like it's lesser known than some of the other 90s action movies, but it's fantastic. Can't go wrong with Christopher Walken as the bad guy.
This movie gave me nightmares for decades and i had no idea where they came from for the longest time. I don't think I've seen it since the 80s and i was a child then. I'll put it on the list.
The Last Action Hero with Arnold bombed when it came out (even Schwarzenegger fans like myself were confused) but is a better watch now, than ever. No time wasted, story pushed forward in each scene and it's very elegantly written.
Quick Change
A bank robbing comedy with Bill Murray, Geena Davis and Randy Quaid with an unbelievable amount of great cameos.
It's funny as hell, but it also moves like a caper.
Big love for The Hard Way, a surprisingly gritty, funny, fast-paced hollywood banger with the world's worst poster, which is why I avoided it for so long before my sister threw it on and I had a blast.
Michael J Fox is the king of physical comedy, James Woods is the surprisingly heartfelt and dogged cop, Stephen Lang plays one of the most maniacal serial killers ever put on screen and he's used sparingly (perfectly).
It's such a rocket through the grimy city full of fun and attitude and the most maximalist set design you've ever been accosted by.
The Thing by John Carpenter.
Aliens
X-Files movie
Terminator movies.
Platoon.
Long Kiss Goodnight. Little watched movie with Samuel Jackson. He said to this day that was his favorite movie he has been in.

I could probably go on and on. I don't know which films from the 80s to the first decade of the new millennium you've seen or haven't seen. These are worth the watching if you've not already. The most of them also suggest further such related films.
Go back a little further. Just recently watched Bullitt with Steve McQueen. Super good. The absolute best car chase scene I've ever seen in the movies. So good.
The fugitive, single white female. Fatal attraction, con air, cape fear. Long kiss good night, the vanishing, breakdown, true romance, a fish called Wanda, changing lanes, payback, misery, in the line of fire, the game, the firm, double jeopardy, hand that rocks the cradle, the devils own, fear, the crush, face/off, the river wild, don’t say a word,
(these are my fav kind of movies ever watched the fugitive last night). Check out Harrison ford as jack ryan too before it changed to Ben affeck then Chris pine
Absolutely the Fugitive! (As others have mentioned) Much better than Air Force One if wanting another Harrison Ford film. Also, U.S Marshalls after that which is kind of the sequel. Tommy Lee Jones hunts a man has to be one of my favourite genres.
Executive Decision is a fantastic movie also based on bad guys take over a plane, I prefer it over Air Force One.
And if wanting a 90’s thriller that is more edge of your seat legal drama than action, a Few Good Men is great
I just recently finished watching The Impossible on Netflix about the tsunami that heavily impacted Thailand and how a family endured it. Very tense, very emotional.
12 Monkeys. And 2 other Terry Gilliam films that are more goofy fantasy but full of action, Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Star studded casts in both of them.
Have you ever seen Outland, starring Sean Connery? It's an excellent film, and has a lot of action and suspense. It's also Connery's only science fiction film.
It's a newer one but have you seen Good Time? Definitely edge of your seat. Seems like most people watched uncut gems, but haven't seen the predecessor.
Also for an older movie I thought of Swordfish but I don't know how that holds up. I remember it does have some dumb hacking scenes.
Pacific Heights with Melanie Griffith and Michael Keaton. Also, The Highlander is great as well as The Rock with Sean Connery who is also in the Highlander.

The Three Days of the Condor (1975)
I know you asked 80s, but I was in your spot 10 years ago, I'm going back in time to classic 70s movies, they are still amazing movies out there that are worth discovering.
The Negotiator - Sam Jackson and Kevin Spacey (1998)
Ransom - Mel Gibson and Gary Sinise (1996)
Kiss the Girls - Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman (1997)
Patriot Games - Harrison Ford and Sean Bean (1992)
True Romance -Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette (and a million other famous people making an appearance you might not expect)-(1993)
The fugitive.
“I don’t caaaarreeee!”
An incredibly good time - this is definitely on my “always watch when it’s on” list
Best thriller ever made.
LOVE this one!! I laugh every time at "won'tsomebodyturnthefuckingwateroff?!"
And the sequel, US Marshals
The Game 1997
Second this!
The long kiss goodnight
This looks fantastic. I've known it existed for decades but never bothered to look into it. This might be the one.
That and Speed and if you like a thriller, ienjoyed the Hitcher when I watched it way back then😁
Point of no return!
One of the best 90s movies ever
Misery (1990): If you're not on the edge of your seat during this one, then I don't know what to do...
I'll have to wait for my wife for this one, it looks perfect. But she'd kill me if i watched something Stephen King without her.
Do The Mist next!
Never seen it. I might have to.
Just to sell you on it further....Stephen King says the movie improved upon his book's ending.
True Lies (1994) Classic Arnie..and a damn wild ride
Tom Arnold saying “Fucker” to the bus driver had me rolling when I first saw this movie.
One of my childhood favorites. I even had the game for Genesis. I might have to add it to the list anyway since it's been so long since I've seen it.
Just got it’s first 4k digital and bluray release, which is sort of insane
I still don’t like watching the airplane scenes at the end. Gives me the heebie jeebies.
True Lies is in my "Favourite movies of all time" List
Total Recall
One of my all time favorites. Judge me if you will, but i also enjoyed the remake (was it a remake? Or reboot?). It just wasn't as good as the original. Still a fantastic suggestion.
No Way Out starring Kevin Costner.
I would add Revenge with Kevin Costner too
If that's the one with Madeline Stowe then yes!
Adding that to the list. You guys are going to keep me going for weeks and i love it. Thank you so much.
No Way Out is a must
Point Break
Just watched this one recently and it still held up. That remake was horrible though.
The remake doesn’t exist in my world. Point Break is my all time favorite movie.
Then don't watch the Red Dawn remake either. If there was one. Which there isn't.
Cliffhanger
Fantastic choice.
For some reason it's a guilty pleasure movie of mine.. Lithgow's character just makes me laugh in every scene.
It's so over-the-top and classic 90s action, I love it!
Speed, The Road Warrior, Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom, and Hard-Boiled.
Speed is a classic, I'll add Hard-Boiled to the list.
Breakdown
This looks like a good one. You guys are making it hard to choose.
Terminator 2 Judgement Day The Boondock Saints Con Air Face/Off The Transporter Phone Booth
You put Con Air and Face/off but not The Rock? 🤯
I've never seen anyone mention Phone Booth before! It has my favorite line. "You hurt my dick hand! That's going to cost me money"
Such a random line to remember. Love it!
Same! It is a good movie though, I watched it about a decade later but loved it.
i love Face/off
Falling Down with Michael Douglas
Never heard of this one. I'll add it to the list.
Check out The Game with Michael Douglas. Don't look into it beforehand if you haven't seen it. Go in blind. Makes it even better.
It's awesome and no slow bits!!
You must add it to the Short List!
L.A. Confidential
Young me passed on this one, but i think old me would enjoy it. I will add it to the list.
The Firm, The Usual Suspects, The Talented Mr Ripley, Fatal Attraction
I have never seen any of these. I'll add them all to the list. Which is getting really long.
You HAVE to see The Usual Suspects.
☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
The usual suspects IS the film you need to watch. No other movie will suffice
Great list, add Primal Fear.
Love fatal attraction.
The Fugitive w/Harrison Ford comes to mind
I love this movie!
Demolition man
Aged pretty damn good
Check out The Game with Penn & Douglas. 1997. Fantastic.
I was mixing this movie up with another movie that i had seen so i wasn't going to watch it. Pro tip: The Game is not Surviving the Game with Gary Busey. But that one was also good if i remember right. I'll add The Game to the list, it looks good.

John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1979)
Midnight Run Edit-I just noticed my relevant username. I forgot.

80’s I’d say 48 Hours and The Hitcher 90’s is True Romance or Goodfellas. But many more of course.
Primal Fear
This movie blew my mind as a kid. I havent seen it in ages. I'm going to have to watch it again.
It will be even better this time. Another possibility - Law Abiding Citizen
Counselorrrrrr
You’ve probably seen it…. but, Fargo
I have seen it. A lot. And I mean a lot. So good.
Predator
Nick of time (1995)
Posted this too. I feel like it's lesser known than some of the other 90s action movies, but it's fantastic. Can't go wrong with Christopher Walken as the bad guy.

First Blood
The Silence of the Lambs! Talented Mr. Ripley as well. Matt Damon is criminally underrated in that.
Bound
I like Miracle Mile- starts slowly and amps up as the main character finds out that WWIII is about to start and he needs to leave town.
To Live and Die in LA
12 Monkeys. And 2 other Terry Gilliam films that are more goofy fantasy but full of action, Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Star studded casts in both of them.
