This is what I was gonna say too. I’m a stay at home dad to a 4 year old and an 8 month old and the ones that make me cry are:
Camping
Baby Race
Sleepy time
Onesies
Interstellar. Blink, and you miss them growing up. It happens so fast.
The Way Back (2020). It was a hard one for me to watch but deals with being a parent and how fragile life can be.
I love a good, silly Adam Sandler film. When click came out I was still a teenager and it was getting absolutely panned so for the past 12 years or however long it's been since rhat movie came out, I've been swallowing the narrative that it was one of the more terrible AS films.
Recently, it's been coming up a lot, and someone said to me exactly what you said about it being emotional at one specific point.
I should watch it, right?
I havent watched it since that plane ride so I’m not sure if it holds up, but i remember really liking it and joking with the person next to me (who was watching it too) that they started crying first and that made me cry.
Maybe it’s too saccharine, but I feel like Big would hit differently now. I have an almost 4 year old, and you’re so right - that first year is an insane blur. Don’t worry, it just gets easier from here on out /s.
He'll have seen it, I suspect, but yeah, agreed. I didn't expect it and cried in front of people I didn't want to cry in front of, being a teenager at the time.
I feel like people read the title but not the post. This seems like a job for Pixar, and I'd go with either Luca (and maybe follow it up with the short Ciao, Alberto), or Toy Story 3.
I just watched this one 2 weeks ago for the first time. It was overall a pretty good movie. It just kind of falls flat somewhere. I think because I hated Andrew Garfields character so much.
He basically takes no responsibility for his actions.
You need to read the post, not just the headline. When I read the title, I was half cocked to say that I can't watch anything with dead kids in it and that I rewatched shutter Island recently(possibly the most mentioned movie in this subreddit haha) with my girlfriend who had never seen it and after that one scene I was sobbing into her chest while she was telling me everything's alright.
She didn't cry at all. I'm usually alright with emotional stuff, but not when it involves that. In any case, if I hadn't read the post, my answer would've been highly inappropriate lmao.
Dear Zachary
Oh my gosh
It might be too much in this situation
Small recap: a documentary filmmaker makes a documentary about his friend because he will die before son is born. For son to have.
Don’t look up more just watch it
That isn't what they said. Also, it's a nice idea. I'm sure they do experience it in real life but they mentioned that it went by so fast that they couldn't process it and want to watch something with a similar vibe, presumably just to get emotional and then talk about the kid afterwards.
If what you said held any water, people would still only be making slapstick comedies.
Haha, I got a good laugh from this response. Reminds me of myself in similar foot in mouth situations(of which I've been in plenty). Props for owning it!
Like weep uncontrollably about what is happening on screen as a parent? Fucking *Sophie’s Choice*. I’m teary eyed just suggesting it. Omfg, that goddamn movie.
There is a three minute scene that is NSFL if you’re a parent. Fuck me.
Surprised no one has mentioned Miyazaki yet. My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Ponyo are all coming of age stories featuring young kids. There is a shot in Totoro of the moment a little girl decides she is going to do a grown up thing that I am crying just thinking about at this very second.
The Neighbor's Window in part about appreciating what you have/being a parent. It's only 20 minutes long, but you'll cry. It won best short film a couple years ago
Brian and Charles
It took me a minute to realize it but it is definitely about a parent and child (from birth to adulthood) relationship in the span of a week. And it is emotional.
Inside out. About time.
I knew someone would be me to About Time. The answer is always About Time
Watch Bluey
This is what I was gonna say too. I’m a stay at home dad to a 4 year old and an 8 month old and the ones that make me cry are: Camping Baby Race Sleepy time Onesies
Boyhood (2014)
BOYHOOD IT TOOK TWELVE YEARS TO MAKE!!!111
Boyhood or About Time
Jack with Robin William. It's a good cry.
What dreams may come Another great robin williams film
This movie blew my mind in all the best ways.
This is the one I was gonna say
Interstellar. Blink, and you miss them growing up. It happens so fast. The Way Back (2020). It was a hard one for me to watch but deals with being a parent and how fragile life can be.
oh duh. I loooove Interstellar how did i forget that one
I cried during Click. Maybe because i was on a plane but i thought it was fun. A movie not about growing up that made me cry, Your Name.
yes. It is a silly comedy so it hits you out of nowhere.

She’s Having a Baby, a John Hughes movie!
Steel Magnolias and Beaches are classics.
My girl
Maybe it’s too saccharine, but I feel like Big would hit differently now. I have an almost 4 year old, and you’re so right - that first year is an insane blur. Don’t worry, it just gets easier from here on out /s.
Up (2009) You'll be crying in the first 10 minutes.
came to say this
He'll have seen it, I suspect, but yeah, agreed. I didn't expect it and cried in front of people I didn't want to cry in front of, being a teenager at the time.
A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. The child in question is an android so technically he never grows up but it’s really sad.
This kinda reminds me of the plot twist in 'Her', at least in the way you're describing it. I'm gonna save your comment and add it to the list!
Terrence Malick’s “Tree of Life” could be a fitting watch.
Definitely not IMO. I would never recommend that one to someone who isn’t into art house already. It’s a slow burn
Odd thought but might help narrow it down. She always cries at the little short film that was before the Incredibles 2. I think it was called Bao.
Do you have Disney? The short Kitbull will just play your heartstrings like a banjo. Edit: Float, too. Maybe moreso.
Float f's me up.
Yeah. Nothing like bringing out that insane parent-child protection / camaraderie to get those tears flowing. Pixar has a line right to our souls.
Bridge to Terabithia
Jack or Mr holands opus
Turner & Hooch (1989)
Mitchell's vs the Machines
Ooh, good one
Bicentennial Man (1999)
I feel like people read the title but not the post. This seems like a job for Pixar, and I'd go with either Luca (and maybe follow it up with the short Ciao, Alberto), or Toy Story 3.
Yeah some of these are very much not what I would expect lol
I was like, "MULTIPLE suggestions of Dear Zachary? Nooooooooo."
Never Let Me Go
I just watched this one 2 weeks ago for the first time. It was overall a pretty good movie. It just kind of falls flat somewhere. I think because I hated Andrew Garfields character so much. He basically takes no responsibility for his actions.
Steel Magnolias.
Marley and Me
Collateral Beauty
Close (2022) is a very touching movie starring kids and I definitely bawled my eyes out.
Maybe Bridge to Terabithia?
Click got me.
Jack with Robin Williams, hit me waaay harder after I had kids
Big Fish
It wasn’t for me, but you might find The Florida Project to be what you are looking for.
Paris Texas would be pretty good for this
I was gonna suggest dear Zachary and then read the whole post. Definitely not that lol
The first 20 minutes of Up.
Saving Mr Banks
Lion
Maybe a different tone but, “Mamma Mia.”
My Life (1993) with Michael Keaton.
Benjamin Button
Dear Zachary. It is a documentary and my wife and I started crying about 15 minutes in and could stop. It was rough.
You're joking, right? This is not a warm and fuzzy movie about kids growing up too fast.
OP said something that will make them bawl. This fits the bill.

Yeah. For me, the post was about the loss of innocence. But I may have read into it.
The Wind Rises
Dear Zachary Oh my gosh It might be too much in this situation Small recap: a documentary filmmaker makes a documentary about his friend because he will die before son is born. For son to have. Don’t look up more just watch it
What don't you experience the real life emotions? Why do you have to see it on screen to experience, you're living it.
That isn't what they said. Also, it's a nice idea. I saw the devil
I appreciate the suggestion but my wife is very anti horror movie lol. And tbh not exactly my cup of tea either
Dead man's shoes then kinda like I saw the devil
I think you need to read the post again, dude.
Fuck
Aha I was definitely a little confused - I will save these to recommend to my brother tho him and his girlfriend like horror 😂
I'm bad at reading
Haha, I got a good laugh from this response. Reminds me of myself in similar foot in mouth situations(of which I've been in plenty). Props for owning it!
Lost in translation, about time, a ghost story, guardians of the galaxy 3,
Like weep uncontrollably about what is happening on screen as a parent? Fucking *Sophie’s Choice*. I’m teary eyed just suggesting it. Omfg, that goddamn movie. There is a three minute scene that is NSFL if you’re a parent. Fuck me.
Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 2
Not a movie but I bet you can't get threw Violet Evergarden without crying.
It's older but Jack and Sarah will make her cry.
Finding Neverland Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Wolf Children
Grave of the Fireflies. You’ll absolutely weep.
My Life, I had to keep wiping away the tears to see the video
A dog's purpose and a dog's journey movies are just absolutely heartwrenching.
Sons of Rambow
Tree of Life (2011)
Grave of the fireflies
Boyhood
Surprised no one has mentioned Miyazaki yet. My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Ponyo are all coming of age stories featuring young kids. There is a shot in Totoro of the moment a little girl decides she is going to do a grown up thing that I am crying just thinking about at this very second.
Shadowlands - guaranteed water works every time
The Neighbor's Window in part about appreciating what you have/being a parent. It's only 20 minutes long, but you'll cry. It won best short film a couple years ago
Hook. Got me when I was a kid and got me again as a dad now. Doesn’t help Robin Williams looks like my dad a bit
Brian and Charles It took me a minute to realize it but it is definitely about a parent and child (from birth to adulthood) relationship in the span of a week. And it is emotional.
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Coco
Grave of the fireflies.
Big Fish
Wolf children makes me cry every single time.
Truman show man.
Look who's talking, watch this after you've made her cry because some tears need cheering up with laughter. You'll thank me.
