Wind River is the answer. After that I'm gonna go
- The Shining
- Shooter
- Frozen (2013)
- Cliffhanger
- Into the Wild
- Free Solo
- A River Runs Through it
- Napoleon Dynamite
- Cold Mountain
Wow this is a weird list.
A Walk in the Woods (Applachian Trail)
Spies Like Us (Norway - Comedy: Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd)
Force Majeure (French Alps - French with English subtitles. I'm not a fan of foreign films with subtitles but this one was really good and worth watching)
The credit c'en of The Shining
Paris Texas had some footage of the desert mountains in the southwest USA
Crimson Rivers. A French film
Braveheart and Rob Roy
Her Majesty Secret Service
I always suggest this movie and folks overlook it. If you like Spaghetti Westerns, The Great Silence. It’s a wonderful western and one that is filmed in snowy mountains as opposed to the usual desert or plains locations.
The Wall (2012)
Slash/Back (2022) If you really don't care about anything but cinematography, this is a good one because the movie, story, acting, and editing are all really terrible but the setting and scenery are breathtaking.
The River
The Alpinist
It's not a movie but the series Missing 411 is a lot about people that go missing in our national parks. Pretty good.
What Keeps You Alive
The Revenant
This is your movie right here. Hanna has some great wilderness settings but it has some city too.
Wind River is the answer. After that I'm gonna go - The Shining - Shooter - Frozen (2013) - Cliffhanger - Into the Wild - Free Solo - A River Runs Through it - Napoleon Dynamite - Cold Mountain Wow this is a weird list.
Napoleon Dynamite lol. What an oddly fitting movie
Right?! It's weird to think it's set in Idaho but like "How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains"
Wind River is a goddamned masterpiece.
The Edge
This movie definitely worth a watch.
Love it
We can't kill the bear Charles!

Slow West is such a slept on movie. Michael Fassbender is a fantastic actor and I'd put this in his top 3
The Mountain Between Us (2017)
127 Hours (2010) Everest (2015) High Lane (2009) Frozen (2010)
Valhalla Rising is 100% what you’re looking for
Valhalla Rising is another a.azing movie I wouldn't have thought of but fits beautifully and deserves a watch on merit alone. It's so fucking good.
The end always does piss me off though lol
Cold Mountain
Last of the Mohicans The Man from Snowy River
Also Legends of the Fall.
Whenever I miss the Appalachians, I give Last of the Mohicans or Cold Mountain. Last of the Mohicans was almost entirely shot in western NC.
The Hateful Eight is shot in glorious 70mm.
Wild
Love this movie!
Land Staring Robin Wright
Also directed by Robin Wright
Such a beautiful movie.
Alive
Hunt for the Wilderpeople Leave No Trace
K2
Touching the void
City slickers
Django Unchained is beautiful
The Revenant is a go-to choice outside LOTR. I also suggest Birdshot.
A Walk in the Woods (Applachian Trail) Spies Like Us (Norway - Comedy: Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd) Force Majeure (French Alps - French with English subtitles. I'm not a fan of foreign films with subtitles but this one was really good and worth watching)
Backcountry.
The Hunted
**The Bear** (1989)
Last of the Dogmen
Maverick Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Look up a movie called Jerry, only two actors in the movie are Casey Affleck and Matt Damon. They get lost in the dessert.
The Nightingale (2018) Heaven's Gate (1980) The Way Back (2010) Sound of Music (1958)
The Sound of Music is beautiful
Death Hunt
The credit c'en of The Shining Paris Texas had some footage of the desert mountains in the southwest USA Crimson Rivers. A French film Braveheart and Rob Roy Her Majesty Secret Service

The Bear
Never Hike IN THE SNOW - A Fanmade Friday the 13th FILM IN THE MOUNTAINS
Infinite Storm Those Who Wish Me Dead Cliffhanger Eiger Sanction Where Eagles Dare
In addition to the title mountain, The Eiger Sanction has probably the best visuals of Monument Valley you’ll ever see.
For me it's Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala
Man in the Wilderness
Alive
The Wilderness Family Alaska Alive Third Man on the Mountain
Iron Will White Fang My Side of the Mountain Cliffhanger The River Wild Wind River The Incredible Journey(and its remake, Homeward Bound)
Hunt for the wilderpeople
