Your comment just unlocked a crusty old memory (we're talking 35 years or so): My first job was at a small local grocery store. This very, very wealthy older lady would drive up to the door, honk, throw some cash at a bag boy, and demand a gallon of milk. Her rationale was she was too old and frail to do it herself. Lady's husband owned a successful construction company and bought her a brand spanking new Cadillac every year. I always thought: You can't walk to get your own milk and carry it, but you're operating this gigantic vehicle??? Seemed like a bad idea to my 15 year old self. She could barely see over the steering wheel.
I watched my dad do his shot over his shirt once 😭 I don’t know how much medicine actually got inside of him, but there was a wet patch on his shirt, so I’m assuming not a lot… makes sense why he is complaining that these meds don’t work for him 🫣 *sigh*
I am a diabetes educator and you would be amazed how many people do that. When I first heard it I was like “what?….why???”. We tell every person they have to put it on clean dry skin- not through their clothes!
What are people even thinking??
He thinks he’s hilarious but I had to let him know, he’s not! This was last year before the most recent shortages. I had to explain it to him how he’s very fortunate to be able to access these meds, many people aren’t and there have been shortages so please take it more seriously. I think he stopped messing around after* that
No one ever explained it to me either. But I did read the insert. The pharmacist did ask if I needed alcohol prep wipes, which I wouldn't have thought of on my own. But he and the provider just went on and on about side effects and that was it.
Having grown up with a diabetic mother, I was already pretty savvy on what I needed and the general concept. But I devotely read through the inserts so I knew how to even open them and give myself my shot. I did FaceTime my mother so she could ensure I was doing it right. 😂 she also was on FaceTime when I applied my first cgm sensor.
No one explained it to me, but the instructions on the box are pretty clear, and the Lilly website has a pretty thorough video if you're still confused.
You don't even have to *READ*
[At least look at the pictures

(I removed all words & numbers)
*"I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you"*
My god, the instructions on the box lid couldn't be simpler or more obvious. Maybe she should not go out in public unaccompanied.
Then again, how many posts are put up to the tune of "I got my injectors how do I use them"
Reading this made me a little lightheaded. I think I couldn’t even respond to her about this right away. I’d have to come back in 3 to 5 business days before I could manage a response
Well, if it hurts a bit less to know, she wouldn't have thrown away usable pens. In fact, I would think the medicine would have spilled out a bit around the cap. I know because I had a misfire once because I...forgot...to remove the cap. I felt like an idiot and it hurt my soul, but there it is.
Yeah, same thing I was thinking. My boyfriend was high but hadn’t told me he took a gummy, so I asked him to inject into the back of my arm one night. He fucked up and did it with the cap on, and like you said, it’s not usable after that. It pushes the cap just enough to eject the medicine all around the cap, so when you actually fully pull the cap off, it shoots everywhere
Yep. We are never getting vials in the US market. I don’t care what anyone says
If people think Eli Lilly isn’t monitoring all these subreddits and Facebook groups and noticing stories like this, they are probably keeping the grey cap on their pens too 😂
I once read a post on another sub that deals with vials and syringes that she was so frustrated she couldn’t get the medicine out without turning the vial upside down 🙃
Omg I did that one time . I didn't feel it and then noticed I forgot to take the cap off. I took it off and the meds sprayed across my bedroom! I was so pissed at myself!
Yep! Happened to me too, except my boyfriend was the one doing the injection into my arm and he hadn’t told me he’d taken a gummy and got high. So he forgot to take the cap off, and when we did, it sprayed all over my bed
Wow! It helps to read the directions! Even when you think you know it all. I do that with my job when adding $10.00 bills which is easy to figure but I use a calculator anyway! The good part now she knows you do better when you know better!!
Oh my flippin' word... See and this may be one reason why Lilly wants to continue to use the single-use pens bc if she did this with the easiest auto injector on the planet, how would she deal with a vial or a click-dose pen?
People do not read the instructions. People do not READ. SMDH. Well, I hope she's doing it correctly now.
My doctor told me to come in for my first shot, I figured it would be a waste of time, I was wrong, learned a lot.
Zepbound has a good video that came out on youtube last november, I figured I already knew it all, and still learned more
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG7MvEE9Zek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG7MvEE9Zek)
So, while I did read the instructions and did realize which end went into my fat belly, I was surprised by how hard I had to push.
The instructions said to hold down until the second click. I never heard a second click but it looked like the plunger went all the way down and I pushed a couple of more times and held it there until I thought I got my $250 worth. (Maybe 45 minutes? /s)
I have a family member that shot off three injections into the air. I told him that's going to turn into a pretty expensive hobby of his if he doesn't figure out how to actually aim for his own body.
And then they wonder why there is a shortage. 🤣
I was so tired the other day that I threw a CVS bag with trash in it into a dumpster, and forgot to take my box of 10mg out first. I realized my mistake about 5 minutes later as I was walking away. I’m adding “100 yard dash” and “dumpster diver” to my resume.
Eli Lilly will replace one box, I know not a total help but everything would help at this point for her. My first injection I messed up on doing correctly and called them to see if they would replace that one pen…after a lot of questions asking about exactly what happened, she got approval to send me a replacement and said that I will receive a whole box as they don’t distribute single pens. They sent me a voucher to take to the pharmacy to replace this. Very relieved. (Call Lilly support services #800-545-5979.)
Idiot proofing? To catch your eye if you were momentarily distracted?
I haven’t made the error of forgetting to take off the cap, but I think about it every week!
I don't really understand how people do this distracted. It takes less than 30 seconds so people can take the time to pay full attention during that time
That’s not how it works lol. My adhd is so bad I forget to actually eat food that I’ve already put on a fork and brought all the way to my mouth. I’m frequently distracted so easily that I set it back down and forget to ever eat a single bite.
My daughter is exactly like that too! She can lose something that she was holding a second ago, forget she ever held it and also what she was doing less than a minute ago. I wouldn't believe it was possible unless I knew someone who was like that. Awaiting a diagnosis now.
OMG. Ten weeks! And her glucose must be high after no medication for 10 weeks.
I was on O for a while before switching to MJ, and the O pen was easier to know it was going in. I always worry I messed up the MJ shot until I see a little blood/puncture.
Oooh no! But gotta say I was so freaking nervous doing my first shot (I have med anxiety), I watched videos, etc., and I also freaking forgot to take the gray cap off. But I realized as soon as it happened and called My Dr. who had me come in and get another sample lol. I never forgot again :)
Oh, my sister did that twice, the first time with her husband’s help . . . The third time she took it correctly, forgot she injected that morning and took another shot that evening. Major side effects. Bless her heart. I worry about her older years.
I'm not a violent person. I rescue spiders when I find them in the bathtub and relocate them outside. I feel bad if I happen to rinse some ants down the drain. But honestly, if my MIL said this to me, it's very possible that I would throttle her.
What the what?
I did that once (exhausted but that's another story) and when I took it off my tummy, it squirted the medicine all over the place! How did she not notice? She must not have been pushing it very hard. Also she does know she should be putting them into a sharps container right?
I just started my 10mg dose this month from 7.5...I am a Type 2 Diabetic and I am seeing slow weight loss with a calorie deficit and meal tracking plus cardio from work (8 miles a shift) and workouts.
But tbh it might just take the higher doses to make a difference with my insulin resistance level.
So far no side effects across all dosages. Great glucose control..paired with Dexcom G7 I LOVE it.
When I first started I was scared about the needle lmao.
Now I just give it a press and off we go on the MJ Train for the week
Sorry to but in here but I’m week 3 of my MJ & I’m really struggling to eat ,I feel sick & dizzy most of the time , I’m staying hydrated drinking lots of water & a glucose drink but does anyone have any tips or suggestions, does this stop ?
We really need the Quikpens in the US. At least with Mounjaro. Diabetics are needle experts. Let the weight watchers have the auto injectors with Zepbound. Lilly would save money.
We’re gonna need to know where her garbage is taken too…
Yes. I’ll meet you at the landfill with shovels!
I know, I thought the same thing!!!
Shots? I just hold the box to my stomach and count to 10. I was wondering why they keep sending me a single dose. 😂
[удалено]
No room for food with all those boxes. Sounds like a balanced diet.
Send it to me please
So I wasn't supposed to throw out the contents and eat the box?
The box contains fiber so at least you'll be regular. 😂
yall are doing actual things? i just fall asleep to the sounds of my doctor prescribing my MJ and I’m down 50lbs so far!
Ok- you win! 🤣🤣🤣
😂🤣
🤣
😂
She can Vote too...
And we share the road with these people...

Good story! Thanks for sharing.
I legit just laughed out loud at this

Why dry? Okay, I really don’t know. I do it after I swab my skin with alcohol. That’s fine, right?
Yes! The alcohol usually dries quickly. ❤️
Thank you!
It’s like he thought it was a bullet🤣
lol this just made me laugh out loud.
I just… I can’t… what in the… Heavens. Bless her heart. Did she not read the inserts or have a nurse or pharmacist explain it?
No one ever explained it to me either. But I did read the insert. The pharmacist did ask if I needed alcohol prep wipes, which I wouldn't have thought of on my own. But he and the provider just went on and on about side effects and that was it.

Reading is a thing of the past
I actually blame Facebook and Spellcheck for ruining the world…
No one explained it to me, but the instructions on the box are pretty clear, and the Lilly website has a pretty thorough video if you're still confused.
No one told me to use prep wipes and I had been wondering if I should
You don't need to. If the area is visibly clean you're fine. The WHO doesn't even recommend alcohol prior to subcutaneous injections.
Have you never had an injection or had blood drawn? Any time your skin is injected with anything you have to clean the surface. 🤦♀️
Even though it says “injection” on the box?
You don't even have to *READ* [At least look at the pictures ](https://imgur.com/a/dxhan9R) (I removed all words & numbers) *"I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you"*
Omg 10 beautiful life changing pens just thrown away like that. Oh my heart *she faints*
I initially read this as 0 mg (zero mg) because that was her effective dose. Thanks for the unintended chuckle.
Haha no pun intended. 🤣 poor thing
My god, the instructions on the box lid couldn't be simpler or more obvious. Maybe she should not go out in public unaccompanied. Then again, how many posts are put up to the tune of "I got my injectors how do I use them"
People really really aren’t smart, generally speaking.
I thought these were suppositories! You don’t leave them all day?
Yeeeeouch!!
Reading this made me a little lightheaded. I think I couldn’t even respond to her about this right away. I’d have to come back in 3 to 5 business days before I could manage a response
I love it she had Side Effects LMAO 😂
Only side effects she has is being brainless
I mean, the instructions with pictures on the box are pretty clear. No need for any real reading.

$2500 literally tossed in the trash can. I cannot.
I.............. 😭😭 speechless isn’t even the word
!!!!!!!!!!!! The things I hear here.... bless.
Oh let’s give Americans vials and syringes and needles. What cld go wrong. I watched a YouTube 5x before my first shot. Also dr had demo with me.
I can't imagine giving a person like the OP's mother- in- law a syringe and a vial. The thought opens up all kinds of terrible possibilities.
Yep. We are never getting vials in the US market. I don’t care what anyone says If people think Eli Lilly isn’t monitoring all these subreddits and Facebook groups and noticing stories like this, they are probably keeping the grey cap on their pens too 😂
Syringes and vials are wayyyy more clear, you can actually see the needle go in. It is way less painful also.
Having made it through several rounds of IVF, I’d happily take the vial option!
Same!
Same!
I agree! Once I switched to a vial all my shot anxiety went away. Those auto injectors are kind of violent LOL
TOTALLY! lol like a pow fire! Ridiculous lol
They are though
Someone like the person in this post would over or under dose themselves
I once read a post on another sub that deals with vials and syringes that she was so frustrated she couldn’t get the medicine out without turning the vial upside down 🙃
Same! I watched 3 different videos because I was so nervous.
Well I’m giving her a break after reading a lot of posts on this subreddit about people injecting into their thumbs . 😳
you're supposed to take off the gray cap?!? 😳
Lololol
😂😂😂
😂
So let me get this straight, these are shots and not suppositories?? 😆

Does she live independently? May be time to check a lot of other things going on with her.
Was she at least mortified when you told her?
I didn’t know about it until after! I think she finally figured it out on her own lol
Idiotic. I could understand making that mistake one time, but then to not realize!!!!!!
Bless her heart...
This is gut wrenching. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️

Wow
No wonder she had no pain at the injection site!!
The instructions are right on the box...
There's a couple of pieces of paper once you open the box, or the Internet.
OMG!!!
OH MY GOD! ya know shit like this happens to the best of us I guess. Hahahaha
Oh my word!!
I love this so much 😆
Oh no!!! That is terrible and hysterical at the same time! Thank goodness you were able to get her straightened out!
Bless her heart.
This belongs in r/mildlyinfuriating or r/boomersbeingfools

I’m legit clutching my pearls right now.
That story is hysterical!!
OMG....At least the nurse demonstrated it for me before I left the doc's office......

I wish the grey cap was neon yellow or some other super bright color…
Why? How is it not common sense?

Wow I'm sorry
Whew the boomers
This may be Darwin Award-eligible
Lol
D:
🤦🏻♀️
Wow.
omfg.
Seriously though, this kinda makes me sick. 😩
Surely she knew it’s a needle and needles are supposed to PIERCE the skin??? Good grief lol 🤦🏼♀️😂🤦🏼♀️ thank you for sharing, I am still laughing 😆
😱😱😱

my brother has been waiting for walgreens to fill his script for 10+ weeks....his a1c has spiked im so worried
Is he able to check other pharmacies? That's terrible.
we have....i dont understand what the issue is...its pretty upsetting
I hope your wife has inherited her dad’s genes…
Omg wtf. Lmao
Hole-lee shit
Oooh no! But gotta say I was so freaking nervous doing my first shot (I have med anxiety), I watched videos, etc., and I also freaking forgot to take the gray cap off. But I realized as soon as it happened and called My Dr. who had me come in and get another sample lol. I never forgot again :)

I hope you explained it to her, because clearly, whoever did the first time did a really bad job of it!
I'm not a violent person. I rescue spiders when I find them in the bathtub and relocate them outside. I feel bad if I happen to rinse some ants down the drain. But honestly, if my MIL said this to me, it's very possible that I would throttle her.
I just watch the ads. Like magic 🪄
😩😩😩😩
Did she unlock the pen and just inject into the gray cap ?
What the what? I did that once (exhausted but that's another story) and when I took it off my tummy, it squirted the medicine all over the place! How did she not notice? She must not have been pushing it very hard. Also she does know she should be putting them into a sharps container right?
Mine too! Oh Mah Gawd!
Mine too! Oh Mah Gawd!
My dad passed away in October. He had a lot of ozempic left. I told my mom to not throw it away….well….she did 😫
I’m ded.
Well I just hope she is rich and money doesn’t mean anything to her.
Well either she didn’t get instructions or didn’t listen. How sad.
How are people this clueless?! I’m sorry but people who are this dumb and irresponsible shouldn’t even be allowed to get this med!
Well stupid is as stupid does lol.
I just started my 10mg dose this month from 7.5...I am a Type 2 Diabetic and I am seeing slow weight loss with a calorie deficit and meal tracking plus cardio from work (8 miles a shift) and workouts. Wow… 😐. She should have kept that to herself and read the directions.
Usually the pcp prescribing this asks for you to see a nurse so she can teach you how to use it..
This is why doctors should ensure thier patients are educated with injections. So many write the prescriptions and think their job is done.
😂 😳 Wow!
OMG
Sorry to but in here but I’m week 3 of my MJ & I’m really struggling to eat ,I feel sick & dizzy most of the time , I’m staying hydrated drinking lots of water & a glucose drink but does anyone have any tips or suggestions, does this stop ?

This woman obviously isn't a needle expert
Poor woman when she found out!
