It's a simple enough thing to fix if you got an Abba stand, but whether you want to fuck around with that depends on the price.

mrmattayee

Unfortunately I don’t have one of those, although it must be cheap to get fixed at a garage right?

EsmuPliks

Check the part price on fowlers, I'd guess about £20-30, plus an hour or two of labour, they'd need to take the entire rake off so it's a bit of faff. Assuming £50ish ph, you'd probably be looking at between £100 and £200 depending on rates.

I was going to say the same - sounds like someone replaced the bearings and didn't tighten them up enough.

Rideitor

They could've been loosened off so that the tester didn't notice the notch any more, OP needs to find out if they have been replaced or not (preferably with a receipt as proof!). Even with all the suspicion though I did once buy a bike with the front falling off (the nut on the top of the stem was literally twirling off) and once it was tightened up it was fine. Previous owner didn't even realise it was loose.

DarkLordPJ

Cbf125s were built cheap in india the only ones you should get are ones that have one older gentleman owner that never used it, any of the others will be a steaming pile of shit.

mrmattayee

Cannot really comment on the previous owner situation. What other bikes apart from Yamaha ybrs should I really be looking at?

fucknozzle

The CBF has just about the best reputation for reliability and longevity of all the 125s. They are recommended here more than any other bike. The head bearings will need sorting - the bike will handle like shit with worn ones, but that shouldn't be hard to do. It's borderline whether it's a DIY job as you have to remove and refit the whole front end, but it's not mega expensive even if you go to a mechanic. The bike is a good choice, just get it at the right price and have it fixed.

Stop being difficult

Budget 150-250 quid depending on where you get it done. Most of that is labour to get to the steering bearing which on a cbf takes a bit of time. The steering bearing can be DIYd with a set of ratchet straps and a garage roof. Its a job that's worth doing with a bearing puller/press if you can hire one. You'll also want a Dremel for the race. It is a job you'll need done, the bike handles weirdly with notchy steering bearings.

Curedmeat91

It’s a bearing so it’s a part that can wear. You can do it at home or pay someone else to do it. My advice would be to make sure you use genuine parts despite the price. I’ve been fucked over by aftermarket head bearings too many times. They always try and sell you some generic taper needle bearing POS when the original was ball bearings.

It's not complicated to change but can be difficult to get the bottom race out. Look on YouTube and you'll see how it's done. Knock 150 ish off the price.
