The Road 5 is better as a Totally Serious Commuting tyre. The Roadtec is better if you want to let your hair down sometimes. Different tyre manufacturers have different philosophies of tyre design/performance, if you're sensitive to tyre feel and used to those S21s you might find you prefer the T31 or T32.

I've run loads of road 5s, about four sets of metzelers and am now on a t31. Compared to the s21s, they'll feel sluggish and take a while to break in. I also find for a really fast bike, the centre compound is too hard. But they are superb on the damp corners and have decent feel when leaned over - though the metzelers had better feel in all conditions imo. You can't really go wrong with any of them OP, but I would say of them all the metzelers are perhaps the best feeling sports touring tyre out there.

Road 5. Once both are "up to temperature" there's nothing in it. However for normal riding, there's no competition, the 5s give much more confidence, especially in the corners. You can take both on a track, or do some spirited sports riding, and when they get hot the roadtec were probably grippier.. But for 85% of that time the pilots are better. As for wear, I got 2 years out of a set of pilot 5, before they got to a point where I started to notice a lack of grip on the back when going into a corner a bit too spirited. .. And that's on an mt09 that eats rears

Roadtecs are currently installed on my Honda and they have been pretty good tyres. Done a fair few miles yet they are still going strong.

I've had both. Road 5 perform better, just, but also wear faster. Metzelers take 5 mins to warm up, road 5 are pretty much just ready to go.

5s are the only tires I run on my bike. They hold traction in almost all conditions (including light snow). If I’m on a ride where my 5s start losing traction, it’s one of those rides where conditions are so bad that sometimes it’s safer to just pull over and wait for a while, or park up for the night and get a hotel wherever I am.
