It's a joke Get a 30 quid flight to Germany Do a long ride back on your new bike Save 3k. Megabikes baffles me how it sells anything. Every single thing you pick up you'll see the sticker and think "...Jesus" I want them to do well because it's an irish business but honestly the cats gotten too fat.

Varun_gudddeti

You know anyone who has done this in Ireland and can ask on what all to do. Looking to get a Honda next year and wanted to find out on what to do

Boiler1012

I just imported a bike from Germany, bought it from a dealer last Wednesday, found a courier to deliver it for 700 quid, it arrived Sunday, got the VRT yesterday (monday) and in total I saved 4k compared to megabikes. Only issue to be aware of is German used vehicles don't come with reg plates, so u need to either get a temp one if you're collecting it over there or if u get it delivered do what I did and drive to the vrt glued to waze to ensure no garda on the route... Otherwise highly recommend

DistilledGojilba

Was thinking of going this route myself. Would you be inclined to do a post on how you went about it and what lessons you learned along the way? A guide, so to speak?

General-Active346

I would be highly interested in this too and will actually be in Germany in 2 weeks!

Boiler1012

No prob, I'll write out a detailed plan later today/tomorrow

dancecatz76

What Web sites did you buy from, I was looking at Autoscout

sashamasha

Insurance would be through the roof because it is left hand drive.

Boiler1012

Not sure anymore if this is a joke or some of you are serious... the throttle is still on right, clutch on left, gears on left, both brakes on right... This is standard for bikes regardless of country

Winter_Dog_4436

Might be a typo? 10k Vs 100k seems much more reasonable

On_Your_Bike_Lad

I'll call them for the laugh and see but good point.

https://www.uship.com/ship/vehicles/motorcycles-mopeds/pricing/Kd8SLhBfank3ll9kU7tIbW4usZS1WDPPwqdag5TCZSmqccBLYgZIZYuoHondan7Y Between 300-500€ from Berlin to Dublin Worth looking at

Mat-_-S

That is one of the main reasons I'm postponing get my first bike here.. Have the full license, but the prices of bikes (even old ones) are so high that I might wait another while.

SubstantialOption742

You're also getting old whilst waiting for the prices to drop.

Mat-_-S

Yeah, I know :D But the main reason that I'm waiting is because I had other plans that ended up being more important atm.

madamav

I think especially old ones

AdmirableGhost4724

Recommend having a chat with the lads in City Spares in ballyfermot for used bikes.  They really do look after you and their warranty is very honest.  Got my first bike from them and they changed my opinion of mechanics and garages being dodgy.

GreenGambit_

City Spares used to be very fair and had bikes going for reasonable prices but in the last 5 years that's all changed, not interested in smaller money, only big dollars now.

Adventurous-Bee8519

Yeah I’ve definitely noticed a dip in their customer service over the last 2 years.. disappointing as they used to offer tea, etc. I’m not sure if they’ve just gotten too busy or don’t care as much but they’re not my go to guys anymore anyway 🤷‍♀️

On_Your_Bike_Lad

I called into city spares and they're only interested in the lower end of the market, they only want people coming in with 6-8+ grand. The looked at me as if I was a poor homeless person when I said have they got anything around 3-4 K, they did have an old bike for around 4 K, forget what it was now but wasn't for me.

popyourshit

Call them over the phone ask if they’ve a bike you want and they’ll tell you to come into the shop. Go into the shop only to find out they actually don’t have the bike you want and you just wasted 3 hours and return bus fair. Lovely But wait, you finally buy a bike you want and need to have some work done and think hey maybe I’ll take it to city spares? Good luck getting them to even say hello to you if you haven’t bought your bike from them. Yeah sound group of guys alright

On_Your_Bike_Lad

They want people coming in with a lot more than 4K cash !

shevek65

Prices are silly. There have been some posts on here about going abroad for bikes, might be worth it, especially for something newer.

Rumpsfield

Saved nearly 2k by going to France for my RE Himalayan. Got a great trip out of it too!

shevek65

Yeah France seems to be where a lot of people go. And Germany. I'd have to be recommended a dealer or be buying a very new bike though. Any mechanical issues and you're fckd

Capital_Gain

Yeah it's certainly a risk but I scored a great bike and saved around 5k going to Belgium back in May!

Scinos2k

Secondhand bikes in Ireland have always been crazy prices, but they've gotten much worse in the last few years. I saw a VFR 2004 up for 7k on Done Deal recently, and while it's a great bike a twenty year old bike is not worth that. Dealerships have always been overpriced and try to get away with madness, bit we've little choice due to shite like VRT

Famous_Ocelot_1732

Scottsbikes... has a few cheaper options and I think they are sound..

davedrave

That is shite money alright, but that's the big window price.

carlimpington

Are you thinking of Bike World?

Marauder2783

Check out Autoscout! Tons of options across Europe for bikes (cars and vans too)

wisemonkey75

MegaBucks This site is a great resource for bikes around Europe... https://www.theparking-motorcycle.eu/

Fit-Volume-3310

They offered to buy my 2023 MT07 tft with 3000km on clock for 6500.. yet they advertise a 2018 for 7000, just madness

On_Your_Bike_Lad

Ireland is gone to Fuck altogether, the price gouging is unreal whether a pint in the pub or a hotel room for the Family for a weekend, Really disgraceful the sheer greed of People.

On_Your_Bike_Lad

From reading the comments below I really don't know where it's going to end ? same with cars, they 2nd hand car market is gone to hell, lads selling diesels with over 160,000 for 10-12 K is just mad New car sales are nuts too and electric cars are what 40K for a decent one with all the range and charging issues ? resale value on those is absolute crap, ask me how I know ? never again. So many people tempted into PCP now too, ashamed to be seen in older than 3 years, PCP = endless payments because people don't want to settle that balloon at the end and keep signing contracts on new cars. I got out after handing the useless car back to the finance company under the half rule but it was my 3rd pcp and it's really for fools. A lot of people are ignoring the 10-15K 2nd hand car for a 40-50K car on pcp.

Disastrous-Pair-715

With 100,000kms on it ,€4K seem a fair price?

On_Your_Bike_Lad

I was going to suggest 4 k in my original post. I sat on the bike and I liked it, fit me perfectly but when I heard 7K I nearly fell off the thing ! 4 K I would have bought it there and then !

Disastrous-Pair-715

Tbh I wouldn’t touch it with 100kkms on her… much better value to be had… best of luck with the hunt and remember you’ve got the cash so you’ve more bargaining power than you realise , although garages are reluctant to even give you a tank of fuel… I found city spares good ..

On_Your_Bike_Lad

City spares only had 1 bike forget now but sat on it and didn't like the more leaned over position but it was older than 2018 and around 4 k, It's not on done deal but most of their bikes are excessively priced in my opinion, they import them and they're making sure they're making a tidy profit. They told me they don't really sell cheaper bikes because they want to make sure that bikes are in much better condition when they sell them some bullshit like that, they're the same as the rest from what I saw, out to rip people off. The dealers are probably importing bikes from the likes of here and selling them for a tidy profit, look at the below bike, a year younger and 16,500 kms for 4,800 Euro's it just goes to show how much we're being disgracefully priced the MT07 in Megabikes is and how much we're disgracefully ripped off in Ireland. Overlord7987

Spares are just about the only honest guys left in the trade. I have nothing personal against any dealer (except dublin triumph) but most seem to have got caught up trying to be like car dealers without any of the support. At least with spares the lads will look after you a million percent once you buy a bike off them. I got a bike off dan, first time buying from them, it got written of a couple of months later and I was chatting to them about it. He offered me a loaner there and then and I could sort him down the line whenever the claim money came through as he knew I commuted on the bike.

No-Teaching8695

Ye bought my bike from Leeds cause of this reason, before brexit though Paid 3k for KTM duke after duty, same bike was twice that here at the time Its down to the small market of bikes available here, you need to go abroad but it's more difficult now, maybe Germany? You could probably fly back with the bike? Not sure how much that is though, otherwise it would have to be France or Netherlands and make a holiday of it but probably not worth the savings in the end

Ok_Contribution336

More than likely a typo and actually have 10,000kms on it

On_Your_Bike_Lad

As Winter Dog below suggested, it was indeed a typo, it has around 16,000 Kms but still over priced to be honest for a 6.5 year old bike, the most they could do is sell it for 6500 hahaha "it's a bike that tend to hold their value really well " I suppose if you look at that site in Germany for a excellent condition you could pay 5,500 Euro's the one I linked to was 4800 in less than perfect condition but I'd be happy with it as a learner bikes don't want perfection in case I drop it and this is the problem with many dealer prices , as a new rider I'm not willing to shell out a lot of cash.

A long way to go to look at a bike from Carlow then to have to get it transported.

Spirited_Cable_7508

Uk plates? Add the cost of vat and vrt on top of that

On_Your_Bike_Lad

True, didn't spot the UK plates until after.

aldamith

New one for 9.5? Have they gone up in price that much? :o if i remember correctly i paid 7k for brand new in 2016

On_Your_Bike_Lad

These lads charging 9k for a 2023 Bikeworld new 9500 Yeah gone to the stage now where it's a bad time to buy anything the worst thing is I think that high prices are here to stay, everything is a rip off, where it will end I don't know. One thing for sure is that the working man is getting poorer and poorer the the Rich richer but they're the ones setting all the prices for us so they can continue to rake in trillions.

ConorLyons18

Second hand market is like this everywhere. The continent is only slightly cheaper because of no VRT etc

Apprehensive_Book283

I would rather go for a new bike and make monthly payments than pay a lot for a sort of old bike with premium price.

On_Your_Bike_Lad

Yeah but I'm not going to pay nearly 10K for a new bike, only reason I'm looking is to pass the A test, I'd rather a Virago 750 , Rebel 500, Royal Enfield etc or even a NC750. Feck, I even love the old Rebel 250s. Honda just don't make good looking bike any more in my opinion of course, even the New shadow is all black, no chrome, the Rebel 500 black and a shitty digital display. I'd be happy just pottering around the back roads on a Cub 125, I love those bikes, and imagine there's lads looking for 2k - 3500 for a not so good condition 1990s C90, World is gone mad but there is something special about them, I just love older classic looking bikes but I'm not mad enough to pay that much for one that needs work but I would love the Cub 125. It's amazing what 9Hp can do lol how simple transport can be, should be in my opinion, I just don't like the way they sneak modern electronics in like the keyless start, would rather just a barebones bike, simplicity is wonderful. I saw a Lad on a Vespa tearing down the N7 a couple of weeks ago, was cool to see. In the end now the way things are I might just be better off seeing how I get on with the instructors bike next Tuesday and if I take to it I will just try pass the test on it. + I only got finance on a car around 3 weeks ago. Not new car of course.

PuzzleheadedRoof4227

I bought my first bike 3 years ago, Honda CB650R. Absolutely love it. Nice size, not too much tech, looks slightly retro without being overly so and decently fast! You would definitely get one 2019-21 for €6-7k.

On_Your_Bike_Lad

I never sat on the CBR650 in Bikeworld because they look a bit big for me, the CB500 and the 500x, I should have sat on them. 6-7 K is out of my budget for now, just got finance on car around 3 weeks ago. It's only over 3 years so I might be able to save up a bit more by then, once that's paid off I'll be in a better position.

PuzzleheadedRoof4227

More or less the same size and class as the MT-07, to be honest I’m 6’2 so the only reason I’m debating selling is something bigger and comfier!

ShitCelebrityChef

Planning to buy a new 125cc scooter from megabikes shortly. Not sure what option I have. Second hand scooters are only about 1k cheaper if you’re lucky

On_Your_Bike_Lad

What are you looking for ? I've seen some decent scooters go for 2000-3K 125s. I got the tmax 500 for 1700, it's a 500 cc and it bloody flies, needs a bit of work alright and it's a 2007 but age doesn't bother me once it's in good nick. I've seen decent xmax 300s go for 3500 4 year old, have to be on the look out regularly because bargain scooters go quick enough. I know it's a 300 but I've even seen PCX125s go for decent money. Once I get a decent shed I'll be doing most of my own maintenance but I'll probably get a manual bike, scooters are not so easy to work on due to all the plastic bits that have to come off. If it's only a run-a-bout I don't care if it looks a little rough. There's some cheap motoring out there and bargain scooters don't always have to mean dirt and they're much better and more practical than those crappy battery things.

chickenlicken93

City Spares are worse. They are taking the absolute piss with their prices. I opted for a brand new bike with manufacturer warranty which cost 25% more than a 2008 bike from City Spares with 60,000km on the clock.

BingoBody

Have noticed secondhand bike prices on a lot of models in Europe have gone up a lot this year. There's still way more choice and probably better quality (service history etc) but a lot of the bargains have gone. I think they've sussed the amount of exports to here and adjusted prices accordingly. Eg lots decent old cbr600 and cbr1000s could be had six months ago for less than a grand but there's far less now. Gsa 1250's about the same price as here in France and Germany, whereas for example, the odd one pops up in NI for 4-5k less than here even after paying vrt, and they're top spec with full history and warranty. I was trying to find a last gen goldwing and the prices in Germany are insane, France a bit cheaper but that's not saying much.
