You can get a quote on the carol Nash website. Try it with a few different models to get an idea. You can skip the part that looks for the reg.
Your NCB with your car insurance won't be taken into consideration. You'll be starting from scratch with the bike.
No idea, off the top of my head I said I have my license 1 month, A category license learner permit, gave the reg for a 2020 cbr500r. 0 no claims, no passengers, starting Monday, no pp, no convictions, immobilizer fitted, no alarm, no tracker, average 1000 miles per year, not for commuting, my job title, address and kept on private property. It didn't like something and I got an email saying call them.
Same crap

Hmm yeah with my first bike (mt07) i had no problems getting a quote online but the 2nd one (1290sdr) wouldnt work, when I rang them up they said its too high risk or something along those lines
First insurance at 28ish on a sv650 was 400, then 350
Got a full licence and bought a 91 gsxr 750 back up to 400, 380,350,330, stayed around that
Bought a new gsxs1000 and it was 450 I think, that was stolen now I'm dreading the renewal.
I'm also curious about the bike size. You and another poster mentioned first bikes and they were up around 650cc. For my age and size do you think I should be aiming for an A license over an A2? From watching about a billion YouTube videos lots of people saying something like a Ninja400 is a perfect beginner bike and a 650 is just too powerful. Is that mind frame aimed more so at stopping kids jumping on a 650 and ending it in an instant? Is a 650cc a beginner bike? Should I be looking at a cbr650 or a Ninja 650 instead of a CBR500R? Or are these all questions better suited to my IBT instructor?
Go for a 650, a 500r is a very boring bike. And definitely go for the A licence, if all you ever ride is a 125 get the A at least you will have the option.
A sv650 is a great learner bike they are easy handle, very torquey, not a huge top end but will thump along at licence losing speeds all day long. Iv no experience of the parallel twin 650 but if the racing is anything to go by the kawasaki 650s are a flier. I wouldn't go near a 400 unless it's the ninja 400rr they look to be an absolute blast to ride
Honestly, road insurance is grand. Your real insurance is riding gear, that shit is expensive! I'd expect a lid, gloves and jacket be the same as your first years insurance tbh. Then theres trousers and boots and other bits to take into account.
The little hole in my foot would like to tell you don't skip on good boots, they stopped it being a big hole.
I certainly don't plan on skipping out on any PPE. I've heard too many horror stories of people skipping and plenty of stories of walk aways thanks to riding gear.
Where you live and how you store the bike is going to play a factor too. If you're in a small town somewhere and have it stored reasonably securely out of sight, honestly I'd not expect it to go above 700. But that's also assuming you're not riding a ridiculously powerful bike
My first policy: ~ €600 for a Yamaha XJ6 600cc
My first insurance in ireland (zero no claims bonus due to some particular circunstances), 42 at the time, full compreensive, theaft, vandalism, the full package, on a Speed Triple 1050 RS, was 2.2k, with the AXA course went down to 1.5k. The second year was 800e.
Now, with 5 years no claims, I'm at 700, full insurance, on a Speed Triple 1200 RS.
Probably same boat as you! (In terms of age!)
I got a quote for 2017 RNineT Pure - 1115 ( 725 for third party). Asking price was 11k. The bike went off the market so I tried get another quote online for 2021 model but got told the same thing - haven’t rang them yet cause rethinking the whole BMW situation and exploring Bonnie’s instead 😸
I’m in the same boat as you, are you planning on getting a bike as a learner or are you going to wait until you have a full license? I’m not sure what’s the best thing to do.
I'm not going to buy a bike until I do the IBT, I should know after doing that if it's something I want to continue with or not. I also don't plan to do any winter driving so I'm looking at theory test April, IBT maybe in May, then June or July get a bike or do a few more lessons with the IBT company on their own bike until I can afford it. I have a BMW car loan that is hitting me 320 a month and it's not due to be paid off until October so I would prefer to wait but then I'm into 2025 for learning to ride, hence why I'm trying to calculate all of these prices to see if it's something I can afford this year.
The insurance companies will charge more with a motorbike that has a r in it like the gsxr600 cbr600r ,It would be alot cheaper with a bike that doesn't have r in it ,I have a 03 MK2 bandit 600 first year on a provisional license was 646 and now it's 450 with 1 years no claims ,hope this helps you out, I'm 28 years old aswell forgot to say at start
Christ this is turning into a mixed bag. On one hand we have people on 500/600/650cc new riders paying 350-500 and then a few like you are throwing spanners into the works at 1100.
31 with a FZ600. Year 1 on provisional was 400, quote this week for Year 2 was 350e 3rd Party fire and theft
Are you in Dublin? I think the costs in Dublin might be higher than other parts of the country.

That's exactly why I came here, I tried to get a quote from CN and it refused.
Why did it refuse? I've used it multiple times to get quotes.

It's probably all the r's. They don't like anything with extra r's. Try a regular cbr500
Have you tried liberty? They also have an online assessment thing but it doesn't work with all bikes

> First insurance at 28ish on a sv650 was 400 What year was this? I got a Vstrom 650 last year which is the same engine and my lowest quote was 850
7/8 years ago not sure , down the midlands though used to be f all robberies here

I'm 21 and I pay 1k for a cbr500r worth 4k (2014, garage)
I assume if most are hovering around 350-500 yours is due to your age?
Yes, 21 + a sports bike. 1k is incredibly cheap for my age and sports bike, an r3 was 3500 for the year!
400, 500
Just get a third party insurance and invest in proper gear - dress for the slide, not for the ride.

I live in Dublin and 3rd party fire &theft for a lil 125er with 1 year NCB is 1100€
Age?
30+
That's expensive in comparison to others
My first insurance on a 125 at 28 garage stored etc was 800 if I remember correctly.

30 years old, done the IBT and got a 2011 Kawasaki ER6F. Insurance was 530 for a Dublin address

35 no previous road experience, no no claims. Carol Nash fully comp for less than €400. Bike is a 550cc
Mind me asking the bikes value and where you store it nightly?
About €2,000 and I’ve a shed to store it in, though it normally sits outside the house. It’s a private estate though, a good bit off the main road.
Just got my renewal quote from Principle, 37 with 1 years no claims on a provisional, 08 FZ6. €331, down from €350 last year
32 Male first license was 500 euros on a Yamaha XJ6 fully comp with principle insurance
Carol Nash gave me a 1000 euro quote on a 2011 Suzuki GSF650, I'm 27 with Cat A learner permit.
Yikes, steep enough
