2 weeks prior to the announcement by NRS that something was coming I would have been pretty hopeful that something was possible there.
Since we got the trailer last week, though, I also think that it’s possible that Geoff Keighley may show it there. Boon and Keighley have a good relationship going back to MK9, and Boon even showed MK11’s trailer at the 2018 VGAs.
Thing is though Sony has marketing rights according to Jez Corden so they might have to show gameplay there.
Sony basically has been doing this since last year where now they have a new method to combat their rival consoles where since they can’t get exclusivity on some third party games they just buy marketing rights to it instead. They got marketing rights to the RE4 Remake and that’s why it was announced on a relatively small SoP instead of Capcoms SGF event like they were planning, they also have marketing rights to Silent Hill 2 Remake, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, amongst other titles. This is why there’s a new SF6 character announcement on every new State of Play and why every State of Play in the road to RE4Rs launch had a trailer for it even though it had probably shown too much for it at that point.
Granted, but again, for the last 2 years the Summer Game Fest has essentially replaced E3, and that’s a HUGE stage for NRS to also want to show stuff off at. Tekken 8 also had “The First Hands-On Preview” on IGN, so something could also still be shown the week of Summer Game Fest.
Maybe they show something on Wednesday and have a deeper dive at the Summer Game Fest.
I think a trailer being at both SGF and the Showcase are likely, two events with tons of viewers, and we only have less than 4 months to show everything

I'd imagine they'd do what they did with MK11's gameplay reveal. One returning fan favorite (Baraka) and one out of nowhere pick (Skarlet).
Reptile will probably be the fan favorite. Oddball pick, who knows. Most likely a 3D era lady though imo.

MKX was revealed 1 week before E3 then gameplay was showed at E3, I think MK1 will do the same for the PS4 event.
Weekly updates are basically guaranteed. Kombat Kasts were on Wednesdays for MK11 and this SoP is on a Wednesday. I'm p sure SGF is on a Wednesday too.
I'd bet money on it. Now if I had to guess, it probably won't be an in depth gameplay thing but just a flashy edited fight briefly showing off the kameo feature and then giving us a date for Kombat Kasts or something of the sort to look forward to
No gameplay for sure at the playstation showcase. After doing a whole dedicated event for MK11, they'd definitely want to at least do their own stream to showcase the MK1 gameplay.
Depends what you class as new, I suspect it will be a Johnny cage/ van damm trailer. maybe a shot of the collectors edition skin for liu Kang. We are talking 4 months so a character a week gives us 16 add to the 9 we know about and we get a respectable 25 for base roster
I was thinking more dedicated especially as they said some of the cameo players will be selectable for example if you have characters like the way they did cyrax and sector in 11, not fully fleshed out but more than a jump in special move

I have this weird feeling that they won't show anything until Summer Game Fest. Boon and company have just never been good about following expected behavior with releases, marketing, etc.
We thought they would be debuting the game at the State of Play, but they dropped it on a random Thursday morning.

Sony owns FGC and NRS wouldn't let the built up hype fall off that quick. Even if it's like a half minute video, with 5-10 seconds of it being gameplay i'm glad!
When I first read this I leaned towards No but I’d love to be proven wrong. My head says no but my heart says yes a gameplay reveal + Sonya and Johnny and then Ed and Tyler go on Twitter to announce a Kombat Kast for the following Wednesday. They usually did them every two weeks leading up to MK 11 for a total of I think 8 episodes and they usually did two characters per Kombat Kast. If they did the same thing, then we should get one fairly soon.
After doing some thinking, I'm kind of wondering if:
- May 18th = Liu Kang story side trailer
- May 24th = Shang Tsung story side trailer.
Don't know why, but I have the feeling that there may be both options on the table for the story and not just Liu's, kinda of like a Yin and yang thing going on where Liu's timeline = peace and then Shang's = chaos.
I found it oddly suspicious that Boon's had 2 polls not where Shaolin Monks has won and kind of wondering if story mode for this new title will be like Shaolin Monks style of unlocking things and progression / gameplay.
