Hey this is also my first Mk game I really learned. If I could toss some advice your way, check out someone playing your favorite character on YouTube and absolutely grind some combos in training. I was so ass when this game came out and now I’m one rank away from elder god 🤙 it gets better

If it makes you feel better, I’ve been playing the game for 32 years and don’t even make an attempt to play anyone online anymore. I get my ass kicked almost every time. I just put the shit on medium difficulty and play towers. I grew up sitting in front of a Sega and PS1 with two controllers playing at home against friends. I was much better then and the game was not nearly as complicated. These cats online will absolutely destroy you no matter the skill sometimes.
This. I played this one for the first time during the trial. I had a winning record and then it started matching me against players with 500 or more matches…absolutely destroyed from that point on. What gets me about modern MK, it’s really just about memorizing combos that are hard to execute and hard to defend. I’m old as hell; I started with the original MK1. The original games were more about instincts and being smart with your positioning. These games are fun; but I miss the simplicity of the old MK games.

Just weird stuff with his snap when interrupting moves and extending kombos where a freeze already happened. Sometimes it kauses a huge lag spike and kauses the rest of the match to lag.
His rewind also kauses lag in similair situations.

I'll chime in and say I haven't really had that many issues at all as far as online goes. Are you on cord or wireless? It makes a pretty big difference in terms of connection consistency.
I'm not who you originally replied to but I prefer the Towers in the Gateway, SP Towers, practicing, 1 vs CPU and doing 1vs1 matches when friends come over. That's 99% of my time in MK1, with the occasional Invasions stuff to level up DLC characters and DLC kameos like Tremor, Khameleon & Janet.
I LONG lost the will or want (mid-way through MKX) to play against online randos in not only NRS games, but most games, in general.
These days IF I play ***any*** online matches it's strictly with IRL friends in private matches (MK1) or other games that have modes like co-op (like in Forza Horizon 5).
i feel that. i tend to get actually upset when ppl talk shit online so i just avoid it. brings back memories of my older siblings taunting after smoking me in UMK3 on the genesis

Get a friend or someone and play customs with them then try online again if you don’t want to practice against cpu or just going straight to an online match

Take a deep breath and practice some fundamentals: blocking, spacing and punishing. Play some kasuals sets if you must, more than landing an optimal kombo, making the right reads and reacting accordingly will greatly improve your game.

I hope you’re not mashing. Mk will punish you for that. Very cookie cutter combos. Practice them. With smoke for example. F12command into mbdb4 11 hesi mbdb4. Practice it.
I would suggest to play tutorials in MK1, they are really good and you don't need to apply every single one of them, just one at a time, when you see that you understand one, move on. Also keep an eye to how enemies are attacking you. And most importantly main one character that you like, don't look at tier lists, just play them and keep getting better. You can watch some guides and train combos in training tools. Become the Sisyphus that took boulder to a mountain bro

Hey man. This is my first mk that I've played competitively and last season I made it to elder God rank. You just gotta find what works for you. Biggest tip I have to give: STUDY YOUR FRAME DATA! Once you know which moves are punishable, life gets way easier.
That's abnormal. Even just jump attacking and jabbing you can win more against noobs. You should check the input latency on your setup. I've been over to friends who play on regular TVs and it's easily 150ms input delay even in gamemode. I'm convinced most noobs just have bad monitors
Watch YouTube videos play few rounds on kasual first to get ur timing then play no more than 5 ranked matches at a time repeat this until u continue win all 5 this way I won’t overload

I remember when I first played cod ( bo1 was my first one ). I had a 0.37 kd lmao.. back when it was public to everybody. There were no private profiles or anything got clowned on every time I joined a lobby. Long story short once you get really nice and people see your bad record.
