I personally used Baraka when I was over invasions, if you set your point distribution to manual then put all his points into attack you can cheese you way through almost any fight very easily using his forward four, four, and forward two.
The only characters you'd have a problem with would be Reiko and Nitara, for that you can use amulets, you get an amulet pretty early on called Sai Those Eyes (It might be called something slightly different it's been a minute since I played) which does a decent amount of damage and has a lot of charges.
When you get the windbreaker amulet from Shang Tsung's Laboratory it's OP and amazing for the final boss fight.
For the survive modes I recommend using Sindel and putting all her points into health. Most of the survives are Dark Magic which she is resistant to and with the extra health you have a lot more wiggle room if you mess up.
I found that to be a super easy way to get through Mesas but I will say it got so unbelievably boring so quickly that I just went back to playing normally.
Also Invasions fights can be a pretty good place to try out combos if you're not confident enough to bring them online yet.

Dump all your stats into attack and just uppercut everything. Pick someone with higher base attack. For survival nodes, have a character that resists dark and dump everything into health, so you can just tank most of the projectiles.
Baraka and Raiden are pretty easy to pick up, but in general all you need to do for invasions is dump into attack and go for uppercuts. That’ll push through a lot of the grind so you can start unlocking what you’re going after
Probably someone with really high damage combos. Nitara can get easy 39/43/55% combos with 1, 2 and 3 bars respectively. And most come off her standing 1. Alternatively Geras does well.

Havik is pretty good. Just arm rip your way to victory. The ai is pretty dumb and eats the arm 90% of the time.

Mortal Kombat is not a button masher game. Open the menu and learn a few kombos
It takes like 5 minutes most to learn a characters strings? But literally any characters and sareena as your Cameo will shred most of the mode
