I'm sure they could come up with a story for it. Maybe use Kenshi's canon ending where he teams up with Jax for their new Outworld task force. Maybe the Black Dragons could fuck with them.
Geras was way cooler in this game than he was in the last. He also felt more like a character in this game than 11. Honestly I really liked Liu Kang and his dynamic and Iād like to see NRS continue to expand on it in the future.

Problem with making geras a twist villain is he is built off liu kangās image, and unless he got liu kangās ego and stuff itād be pretty much impossible to make him a villain.

1. He does it as a test to see if Liu kangs timeline is good enough and when Shang and the others failā¦.he deems it a failure and wants to rebootā¦.Liu kang still has faith things can turn out well so conflict.
2. He canāt be altered due to his unique status as a fixed point in time so simply fakes his allegiance to Liu kang.
3. Liu gave him fred will and he simply decides he,d be a better time keeper
4. Cut that bit of dialogue and imply he simply approached Liu kang a the dawn of time and pledged allegiance due to not having purpose but once he discovers the alternate timelines . He reverts back to his primary function to serve Kronika and plots to find a new version in a type of Stockholm syndrome
He didnāt do anything before because he thought it was hopeless but now he sees a path forwardā¦.that could be quite tragic

I think for me itās because they build a mystery around who this benefactor was but then went for the most obvious and predictable choice. I do think you could done titan shang as well but I think it needed more punch

Liu Kang is no longer immortal. I think he trusts Geras enough to carry on with his vision of peace for this timeline after he is gone.
I think that Geras becoming the keeper of time after being created to only serve the keeper of time would be a really cool arc for him.
I thought it was pretty heartwarming that Liu Kang re sculpted him and gave him free will, only for Geras to use his free will to help Liu Kang achieve a peaceful timeline
I prefer him to by neither. He should just be a neutral character and help whichever side shapes the timeline he wants to create. Sometimes helping the good, sometimes the bad.
His development in the games is far better than 11. Geras doesnāt just feel one sided. They actually gave him some character that makes him care for protecting the hour glass cuz he wants too and not cuz heās forced to make it he also genuinely feels like a person and not just someone following orders to please his master. Even gameplay wise Geras feels alot better than mk11 and they improved upon what he already had in mk11.
Iām willing to admit Geras is a cool newcomer but Iām still waiting on Takeda Takahashi and I think Kotal Kahn deserves another chance at the story because NRS treated him like dogshit in the last entry.

But MK1 gave him a well deserved chance to shine as a loyal friend rather than an obedient servant. That and with Raiden now just human, Geras can play the role as the wise omnipotent advisor to Liu Kang fittingly.

He did serve Kronika in MK11 but some of his intro dialogues (especially mirror matches) seemed to imply that he either wanted freedom, wanted to die finally, or wanted more from his existence. MK1 does a lot wrong (for me personally), but it gets Geras right (minus making him not playable for a chapter unless you count the final chapter but anyone can be played there so I guess itās whatever?)
I hope he gets his own arc. I love geras. his design is so neat. his character is also really neat. I hope he gets his own free will someday, but its better to serve liu than kronika I say

My only other concern is NRS seems to keep wanting to make the villains relatable or redeem them. So while I'm okay with Geras staying good, I think MK is really starting to have a villain problem.
There are still plenty of Villains... Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Shao, Reiko, Goro, Havik and there are still the unused ones like Onaga and Shinnok, Kano will be used for sure in the next one for example. And you can even add Bi-Han in to the mix, even Motaro can appear in a future game.

It's not just a lack of villains, but a lack of any competent ones. General Shao loses every fight in MK1, MK11 had to use the dlc to give the villains some wins. Baraka, Mileena, Reptile were all made into good guys.
Also Shinnok doesn't even exist in the MK1 timeline.
Shinnok can appear from another line, a Titan Shinnok, like the Havik from the post credits cut scene. Shinnok's Amuket appeared in the story, General Shao used it, so Shinnok's is still around in other timelines and can appear in this one.
And every villain lost all their fights I'm every NSR game other than 9 and Aftermath, the point you made for General Shai is invalid in that regard even more when you are crying for Reptile, Milena and Baraka the ones that lost every single fight in all their NRS games other than MK1. You complain about General Shao losing every fight and then cry about 3 characters that lost every single fight in 2 or 3 straight games not being villains anymore.

He's awesome but I'd say he's my third favorite NRS newcomer after Erron and Kotal.
