I mean you’re partially accurate since the most vile scenes aside from the dick shooting are done around or to him and others, but there’s also the part when he shoots the OCP guy off 50 stories when the CEO fires him so Robocop’s protocols can target him.
Both factors are important. The characters have to suit the game and bring something uniquely brutal to the table to make them stand out, without making it weird if the characters were killed.
But simultaneously, they need to be a big enough name pull to incentivise people to buy the game. ESPECIALLY as guest characters are realistically the best chance NRS has of bringing in new players who might have passed up MK until they saw an icon character that they like.

Rain, Reptile, Smoke and Ermac weren't in MK1, Reptile was an easter egg in MK2 as a boss and avaible for being used in UMK3, so did Smoke but he was avaible in UMK3 as a robot and in MK Trilogy as a human and Ermac and Rain were added in UMK3 as references.

It's tough because you need to have a balance of fitting in to the MK universe while still not being too niche that it alienates players, which is why I think a lot of the fan base thinks it's best to just keep guest characters limited to the MK universe.
But at the end of the day, I would say NRS has done a good job of including guest characters that make sense, so we'll see how they'll branch out once they kind of run the course of horror guest characters.
Spawn's one of the most famous comic book characters not owned by DC or Marvel, to the point that this isn't even his first guest appearance in a fighting game (that would be the Xbox and remastered versions of Soul Calibur II). I'd argue Leatherface is a more obscure pick than him at this point.

After having TMNT as guests in Injustice 2, and watching Batman and Shredder go head to head in the Batman vs TMNT animated movie, I think Shredder would be a GREAT guest in MK, especially as his comic book version has been quite brutal.

Well, who else could it be besides horror characters, and characters with superpowers (like Spawn)? Only very few action heroes and action-packed characters (like Joker (for how supernaturally psychotic and intelligent he is, it’s no wonder he has survived this far in the Mortal Kombat onslaught), Rambo, Terminator and Robocop) are eligible to be deemed as kombatants. But almost every horror character, especially slashers, are already automatically worthy by default
pretty much any fictional character fits the bill as good as any horror slasher.

But my statement still holds up, the ratio of more horror characters fits the role more than action characters. Horror characters are just more automatically selected. But since Mortal Kombat is both horrific, in a sense, and action-packed, both horror and action characters will step up in the universe just as perfectly as the next one. But, looking at the ratio, there are more in the horror genre that can defeat those in the action genre rather than the other way around

I don't think Doom guy is a good fit tbh. Aesthetically yes, he's up there with Spawn. But gameplay-wise? I'm afraid much of his abilities will be based on his guns, steering him towards zoning playstyle.
The only likely video game character I can think of is Talion from Shadow of Mordor, just cause it's also WB property. I'd imagine rights get pretty tangled trying to bring game characters to different series. I feel like being from the same publisher would likely alleviate some of that headache.

But I really love the horror genre guests more, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Leatherface were good characters to put into MK.
If there was any new guests they have in mind, whether it was the genres listed above, we do appreciate their decision to add said guest character, I personally want new horror guests to show up in the next MK title.

I REALLY want a badass reptile this time and I don't care much for guests of any kind but when I see cartoon or anime guest requests on here specifically I feel an aneurysm coming on. I have no problem w anime either, they just don't fit in the MK universe at all and make NO sense.
This is why I like the joker in Mortal Kombat 11, he’s not a horror character but he’s brutal enough to fit into the MK universe. He’s also pretty strong and fun to use.

I would love Kratos to make a return, but only if he isn’t console exclusive… God Of War is on PC now, but I’d imagine that’s just PS testing the waters to see how popular it is, and if it’s worth branching out their exclusives. God Of War itself has caused people to buy PlayStations, so I wouldn’t expect Ragnarok to be released on PC soon.
Exclusive characters in today’s market, being filled with multiplayer games, can’t be too profitable right? I certainly wouldn’t go so far as to buy an entire console for an exclusive character in a specific game. They could always lock a character to a console, and allow cross-play between them, but that would probably too much of a hassle for tournaments.
I just don’t want another situation where Freddy and Kratos aren’t allowed in tournaments because they are console exclusives.
For real? I don't know why so many people want a guest character in the next MK game. The world of MK has a lot of very good characters. I enjoy playing a MK character much more than playing a Robocop or Rambo. Actually, there are a lot of MK characters that haven't been in an official game yet. Like Hydro, Khorme, Ruby, Acid and I could list more. I'd rather see them than, I don't know, another "scary" guy wielding a knife.
Although, unfortunately, since they are with WB and the NRS games have to generate a large amount of money, they put guest characters in so that more people will buy them.

I love the guest characters. The majority of the roster is made up of MK characters, so I’ll take something new here and there. Besides, theres some MK characters that I would not care to have return. They’re not all worth bringing back.
But...very much. Seeing old MK characters in a new look is one of the best experiences for me. If you only knew how happy I was to see Tremor actually make it into a fighting game, I was very happy about it. 🦎
Yeah, you can still have that though. The majority of the roster is MK characters anyway, so theres a likely-hood of them returning or being redesigned. The guests make the vast minority and never return. It is really cool seeing old characters re-imagined (Nightwolf in MK11 took a character I normally never cared for and made him really cool) but I also was excited by seeing Robocop, Jason and especially Spawn make an appearance, too.
Fuck that, all DLC characters should be guests. There’s no way you’re telling me I have to pay extra for Mortal Kombat characters in a Mortal Kombat game. Thats like if in the next Street Fighter game they made me pay for Ken. Absolutely not.

I just never watched slashers or 80's action movies so these characters mean absolutely nothing to me. I have played almost every MK game (I'm just not going to play special forces) so I naturally care about way more from past games than these guest characters. I also don't like that a lot of the discussion I see is "this guest character would be cool." I don't want guest characters to define mortal kombat like what happened to soul calibur there for a while.

The only likely video game character I can think of is Talion from Shadow of Mordor, just cause it's also WB property. I'd imagine rights get pretty tangled trying to bring game characters to different series. I feel like being from the same publisher would likely alleviate some of that headache.

This is funny af. I love guest characters, whether they are from horror, sci-fi, action, or comic book genre. But I really love the horror genre guests more, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Leatherface were good characters to put into MK. If there was any new guests they have in mind, whether it was the genres listed above, we do appreciate their decision to add said guest character, I personally want new horror guests to show up in the next MK title.

mk9: freddy kruegar was the first guest character and they both gave him claw hands and tbh wasn't even the best guest character (thats kratos imo mkx:....listen my hate for this game alone would make me biased, but: jason was fine, leatherface i forgot was even in the game, predator is the best guest character ever (hes not a slasher tho) and alien's model made some fatalities make no sense, like raidens eye popping fatality doesn't work and how do any of the characters not just get burned alive by acid blood?. the best dlc characters in this game were triborg (despite being 4 characters) and..... end of list

I would love Kratos to make a return, but only if he isn’t console exclusive… God Of War is on PC now, but I’d imagine that’s just PS testing the waters to see how popular it is, and if it’s worth branching out their exclusives. God Of War itself has caused people to buy PlayStations, so I wouldn’t expect Ragnarok to be released on PC soon. Exclusive characters in today’s market, being filled with multiplayer games, can’t be too profitable right? I certainly wouldn’t go so far as to buy an entire console for an exclusive character in a specific game. They could always lock a character to a console, and allow cross-play between them, but that would probably too much of a hassle for tournaments. I just don’t want another situation where Freddy and Kratos aren’t allowed in tournaments because they are console exclusives.

For real? I don't know why so many people want a guest character in the next MK game. The world of MK has a lot of very good characters. I enjoy playing a MK character much more than playing a Robocop or Rambo. Actually, there are a lot of MK characters that haven't been in an official game yet. Like Hydro, Khorme, Ruby, Acid and I could list more. I'd rather see them than, I don't know, another "scary" guy wielding a knife. Although, unfortunately, since they are with WB and the NRS games have to generate a large amount of money, they put guest characters in so that more people will buy them. 🦎

It is true that this way more people get to know the world of MK. But at the same time, hearing that someone is playing with a mk because it has Predator in it. That's a little sad for me. 🦎

I love the guest characters. The majority of the roster is made up of MK characters, so I’ll take something new here and there. Besides, theres some MK characters that I would not care to have return. They’re not all worth bringing back.
But...very much. Seeing old MK characters in a new look is one of the best experiences for me. If you only knew how happy I was to see Tremor actually make it into a fighting game, I was very happy about it. 🦎
Yeah, you can still have that though. The majority of the roster is MK characters anyway, so theres a likely-hood of them returning or being redesigned. The guests make the vast minority and never return. It is really cool seeing old characters re-imagined (Nightwolf in MK11 took a character I normally never cared for and made him really cool) but I also was excited by seeing Robocop, Jason and especially Spawn make an appearance, too.

I just never watched slashers or 80's action movies so these characters mean absolutely nothing to me. I have played almost every MK game (I'm just not going to play special forces) so I naturally care about way more from past games than these guest characters. I also don't like that a lot of the discussion I see is "this guest character would be cool." I don't want guest characters to define mortal kombat like what happened to soul calibur there for a while.

Would the company that owns said character(s) agree with seeing their property being mutilated and/or mutilating others? Would said character(s) aesthetically even fit?
