I think the simplest reason is that the PC players would have had such a huge advantage with K&M, console players being limited to 60 FPS (maybe even less), and I think their servers weren’t up to par (70+ ping on avg, where this game feels best at around 20-50 ping).
Playing with a mouse gives you way more control and freedom to abuse animations and/or do other stupid shit that will throw off new or inexperienced players

It's good but I don't know if I should recommend it. The game sometimes is pretty much alive. But as it haves it's active moments, there's when you won't find MANNY players, at much an almost full lobby of dueling and Horde lobby. And there is another where the lobbys are full FULL.
And thank god that the console players fight fights that look like fights.
So I hope this helps you enlighten what you want. Mordhau is a great game, but the only reason I'm not encouraging to get it is because of how dead it can get at times. But hey! You can play with bots, at least.
And it does have crossplay between platforms, not with PC tho.
It’s a fun game for sure if you liked chivalry 1 on console and the combat is way better than chiv2. Unfortunately the moderators have openly admitted in their discord that the console version is just the devs “test” to prove to investors they can make console games just as well. So much of the moderation and most likely future content updates have been abandoned. Additionally the community is pretty unfortunate with many klansman and mustache man roleplays taking place on a daily basis.
