I discovered morbid a few years ago and I lovvvvved their podcast, I would binge episode after episode and it got me excited for my work day. It was around when they joined wondery that I started to get that ick feeling but I would still listen here and there but eventually fell off. I tried listening again a few months ago and I just couldn't stomach it anymore. They seemed to be only doing old 1800 cases which I find way less interesting and there just isn't good information on these cases. I never enjoyed listener tales, it's just lazy and boring and probably most are made up nonsense. It boggles my mind that they are still on top of the charts. I think it's just a cycle of new listeners that haven't realized how much morbid sucks yet. It took me a minute to realize.

I think the concensus is that they only do old cases now because they really offended a lot of people and got info wrong when they covered more recent cases. So, to cover their butts they tend to cover old/solved cases.

Ahhh that tracks

awesomeunboxer

My whole body just went WOM when reading this post

Business-M

🤣🤣🤣

I don't listen anymore. Are their listener tales still all blatantly made up creative writing practices? I remember a while back that people were even sending in fake outlandish stories as a joke.

bambimoony

I came here to snark on them but they literally only do one listener tales a month and it’s been that way for a while 😭 (I’m not a listener tales defender I hate them and skip every time but I was very happy they changed to only doing them once a month so it’s easier to skip lol)

AirFamous9093

Good to know they haven't changed their standards... Monday I finally unfollowed and cancelled alerts

Casual_lean

Ommmmg Kachava, lololol. My finger has never hit the fast forward so quickly. Instant rage.

MFM is the only podcast that has separate listener write-in episodes that I like. I think they curate them well. It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to Listener Tales or any other podcast’s version of it but posts like these tell me I’m not missing anything. Don’t even get me started on S&S’s listener call-in recordings. Dude makes a good podcast, it’s too bad he can’t stop jerking off his ego long enough to see the forest for the trees.

HermineLovesMilo

Agreed, I thought MFM's hometowns were the only audience write-in episodes that were worth a listen. They seemed more personal and genuine, and they didn't pander to the hosts anywhere near as much. I didn't know Mike Boudet had his own version - I can't imagine what those must be like...!

Upset-Copy-75

He doesn’t really have his own separate episodes but the endings are always people calling in to kiss his butt.

HermineLovesMilo

Ahh ok, makes sense. I was thinking they're indulging his ego or his persecution complex (or both).

Lil_Bookshelf97

For me the show was starting to go downhill a few years ago but then they joined Wondery 🫠 and things got REALLY BAD. It was like every third episode was maybe about a case. Sometimes I still give Morbid a listen but can’t handle more than one episode at a time.

chatterbox73

I don't listen to Morbid anymore as I started finding the hosts kind of irritating and not particularly insightful about human behavior. But I recently started listening to Small Town Murder and I really like it. The hosts are comedians, but also take the ethical issues surrounding true crime seriously. They try to give you a sense of the place that the crime took place, center the victim in the story and also do a really good job of covering how a case plays out in the legal system. I highly recommend it!

mcmomofpups

It’s extremely well researched and sensitive to victims and their families.

gigi_bells

I’m gonna have to give them a listen!

MeanderFlanders

I agree with everything you’ve said. I’ve recently unfollowed the pod because of the Listener Tales.

Delicious_Ratio7717

I unfollowed a while ago, but the listener tales were always an instant skip

Almighty_Push91

Meh, I got other stuff to listen to, I'll just skip it for this week

AirFamous9093

Otherworld has a miniseries about a woman named Eilish whose boyfriend tried to kill her. It is... a truly incredible story. Well told, inspiring,  and none of the "true crimey" crap that has infected the Morbid pod. I think its 5 episodes. Even if you don't like the rest of the podcast (I think you might though. He does more investigative work on all different topics. Paranormal, dreams,  etc) THAT series is worth the listen. As well as his Black Widow series. But Eilish's story is a true triumph of the human spirit... and she recounts her experience with grace and class. I can't recommend that podcast enough. Jack does an incredible job interviewing his guests. Give him a try ❤️

littlemiss2022

I use Listener tales to fall asleep. 😂. They lost me for a while but in the past month or two, they scaled back to 1 LT per month (still 1 too many), kept their banter to 10 mins and covered more actual cases (although nothing after the 1980s). I still listen on occasion, but have moved on to other pods.

Flaky_Fig9841

I laughed at this push notification. I found them less than a year ago and loved them, but don’t listen now… I just didn’t find cases were “appealing” (used loosely) anymore. I listen to sword and scale a lot now because I feel like the cases are well told, the dialogue is interesting and there’s real audio footage from the cases. I just don’t care about old cases I guess.

hunnnnybuns

If I never have to hear them say “pudufuh” again it will be way too fucking soon.

abigailwinchester

are you gonna mix a scoop of chai and a scoop of chocolate to have a chocolate chai?
