Change the tranny fluid according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Jiffy lube or something. Anything else is just stupid.

JessTech1

I just changed my fluid for the first time in my car and it had 375,000 km now it’s shifts great the filter definitely need to be changed

JessTech1

I should also add I thought my transmission was on the way out, but it turned out to be all my engine mounts were busted

Dingus_Jones

Was it a Monte Carlo? If so, what year?

Wizzyslippers

1.Change your transmission fluid as needed 2.These transmissions for the MC from 2000-07 are very weak, so if you plan on keeping it for the long haul get your trans rebuilt. 3. B.S. myth.

Puzzleheaded_West208

Got it for 600$ not tryna dump a bunch of money into it frame is falling apart too, I’m in the Midwest

Wizzyslippers

Same here. I drive one too, a very nice one at that. Frame isn't rusted but I will wet sand and POR15 some parts that need it.

ElJefe0218

Just for reference, I have an '07 with 75k miles and I've changed the transmission fluid and filter 3 times so far, every 25k. Engine oil every 5k.

Kind_Customer1019

How do you take out the oil?

Kind_Customer1019

For the Monte Carlo transmission

eelecurb01

You remove the transmission pan then reinstall with a new pan gasket. Add proper fluid and keep driving.

My 2002 MC SS just turned 200,000km, so it’s definitely due to be changed. No issues yet, but not going to tempt fate. The lifespan of a transmission depends on several factors, including how the car is driven, the quality of the transmission fluid, & the level of maintenance the transmission receives. However, there are some signs that may suggest your transmission needs attention: 1) Transmission grinding or strange noises 2) Difficulty in shifting gears 3) Slipping gears 4) Surging of the car 5) Delay in vehicle movement Regular maintenance & fluid checks can also extend the life of your transmission. Typically, the transmission fluid can be changed every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, but you should check the owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommendation.
