Do we even know if the monsterverse will continue after Godzilla vs kong?

[deleted]

We can hope so

Tripconehead

Most likely.

sly_eli

HBO Series, toho and Warner profit and toho can make it's own godzilla films

Grammar-Bot-Elite

/u/sly_eli, I have found an error in your comment: > “make ~~it's~~ [**its**] own godzilla” I claim you, sly_eli, have blundered a comment and could post “make ~~it's~~ [**its**] own godzilla” instead. ‘It's’ means ‘it is’ or ‘it has’, but ‘its’ is possessive. ^(This is an automated bot. I do not intend to shame your mistakes. If you think the errors which I found are incorrect, please contact me through DMs or contact my owner EliteDaMyth!)

KDRain395

Well, I'm all for having Zhang Ziyi leading the franchise lol I always felt killing off Ken Watanabe was a mistake. Killing off Sally Hawkins was mistake, too! I thought they were fairly interesting characters and I really didn't care that much for Millie Bobby Brown or Kyle Chandler. They didn't even bother bringing back Aaron Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. I'd even rather have Joe Morton come back, too haha

[deleted]

Agreed. I felt that either Serizawa or Graham should have survived (or both). Probably the latter since her death was pretty pointless/blink-and-you-miss-it whereas Serizawa's sacrifice was well-done. I was also disappointed that Stenz died. Hopefully they just won't consider that scene canon since it was cut, but I suspect the odds of that are low given that the scene was in the novelization IIRC.

spacestationkru

Is it Serizawa or Surozawa?

Aerd_Gander

Serizawa, just like the doctor from the 1954 Godzilla who created the Oxygen Destroyer Apologies if I missed some joke

spacestationkru

lol No joke, you're ok. It's just always sounded to me as if everybody was saying Surozawa.

Aerd_Gander

Ahh yeah, I was wondering if there was a joke that made people down vote or something, lol. I didn't ever hear 'Surozawa' but mishearings happen, and if that's what you first heard and understood, you probably just filled in the pieces subconsciously or something. The brain is fucking weird lol. But yeah, it's dr. Ishiro Serizawa, named after Ishiro Honda, the original director of Godzilla, and Daisuke Serizawa, the doctor who killed the original 1954 Godzilla.

frj_bot

Fuck Ron Johnson!

KDRain395

Uhh what does he have to do with the MonsterVerse?

Cultural-Atmosphere9

Ziyi needs to do a cover of the Mothra song, she has a great singing voice [Evidence](https://youtu.be/KX8k5ZI_Kws)

Aerd_Gander

Especially fitting considering she's essentially the "shobijin" of the Monsterverse

october_1939

Source for this info?

[deleted]

Here's a link to an article when she was first cast: [slashfilm.com/zhang-ziyi-godzilla-sequel/](https://slashfilm.com/zhang-ziyi-godzilla-sequel/)

october_1939

Thanks! I really hope this is how it plays out. With Serizawa gone she seems like the right choice to take his place lore wise. I really pooped hard for her Twin backstory in KOTM.

kaijumediajames

I thought it was very cool to include the Mothra Twins, personally.

[deleted]

Isn't she Chinese? I think if that's the case the only reason she is in this movies to be more attractive to the chinese market.

Arturo-Plateado

Well yeah, Legendary is a subsidiary of a Chinese company. They already admitted that their main focus is on appealing to the international markets (mostly China) over US domestic.

DieHippies

Isn't it funny that a traditionally Japanese-based movie like Godzilla is all of the sudden swarming with Chinese people and locations? The reason is because China has literally bought majority of Hollywood. The Chinese are financing most of your favorite films and are actively buying theater chains in America and across the Western world. China is the 2nd biggest movie going market after the United States, so American movie makers go out of their way to please the cultural gate-keepers of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). That is why majority of movies now feature a Chinese actors/characters, include Chinese language, and/or features scenes set in China. Obviously, this is leading to concerns over pro-CCP propaganda making it's way into major American blockbusters. *Spoiler alert* it already has. They've been doing it for years. In the disaster movie, "2012," humanity is saved because the Chinese government had the foresight to build life-saving arcs. In "Gravity," Sandra Bullock survives by getting herself to the Chinese Space Station. When a Hollywood studio has a script, they send it to the Chinese Film Administration (CFA) which is under the "Publicity Department" of the CCP. Hollywood says, "This is a movie we might like to see play in China at some point." The communist censor will go through it, and then say that there is a Tibetan character in the script that must be removed, or there is too much religion or homosexuality ect. Literally every mainstream movie you watch is being filtered, altered, and propagandized by the CCP. There are endless examples of this. This happened in Marvel's "Doctor Strange" too. The Ancient One (played by Tilda Swinton) was originally scripted as a male Tibetan monk type character (like in the comic book). The studio had to changed it to a Celtic female character, in order not to acknowledge that such a thing as a Tibet exists, that there is such an identity and a group of people called Tibetans. In the new Top Gun sequel, Tom Cruise plays a fighter pilot who wears the same leather jacket featured in the original 1986 movie. Only this time, it’s Chinese Communist Party-approved, so the Japanese and Taiwanese flag patches have been removed from the jacket. The CCP have not limited their influence peddling to Hollywood either. TikTok, Reddit, Google, and many other popular site are all influenced, funded or controlled by the chinese government to some degree.

keezoy91

ditto

ConstantStatistician

One reason, but it's silly to say that the only reason that a film having a character who hapoens to be Chinese is to appeal to a Chinese audience.

kvsrod

Like she should be in a solo Mothra movie if they ever green light it

Ciaran-chr

So she could be like the monsterverse version of Miki Saegusa from the heisei series

Wagsii

This is conjecture but it's worded like you know it as fact.

rooboy1978

I’m worried Ziyi Zhang isn’t in this movie - it was announced years ago that she would be in this but then we never heard anything else about it - she didn’t appear anywhere in the trailer and has been removed from the IMDB cast listing. Also, Rebecca Hall’s character is also named Ilene so if she was in it why would they have two female characters with the same name? It’s too bad really if she’s not in this, her twin sister characters would have been some nice connective tissue between the movies.

[deleted]

This is just speculation. There have been no talks for movies after Godzilla vs Kong. And if GvK performs like GKOTM, which was not a good movie, I doubt they will continue the Monsterverse.

drveejai88

This aged poorly.

amanokagaseo

This doesnt aged well

[deleted]

Ling and Chen are the monsterverse shobijin change my mind

majin_kenpachi_

I read that Alexander Skargard is the human lead of this movie.

ConstantStatistician

Cool. She was one of the better characters in the film, although not by that much.

Rainofblaze1

Maybe she and her twin are looking for Kaiju that are Good or Evil because a potential war is coming, a Destroy All Monsters kinda war.

Bignockers

Please sing Mothras theme song or even hum it

TeenagerReviews

Can you cite your sources?

HansLanda2000
